Years ago I was suffering from lower back pain. I went to my doctor and she prescribed me pills. I told her that pills felt like silencing the alarms my body was giving me. Pain is a warning that something is wrong. I dont want you to silence the alarm I want you to tell me whats wrong. I got nowhere with her. I went to a chiropractor and he gave me an adjustment and it felt great. I like it so much I went back a couple of times. After a while it turned into a routine. I started to get frustrated as I was seeing no long term improvement. Then I went to a physical therapist. He took the time to ask me about my habits and gave me all sorts of tests. That was the first guy that I felt was trying to solve my problem. After the first session we started to figure out what was the problem and he helped me correct it with a series of exercises and some dietary corrections. Its not the practice but the practitioner. Doctors just giving pills are just as bad as chiropractors with a adjustment factory set up.

I am a student debating on being physical therapist or a chiropractor. I really want to learn how to improve people's movement and get to the root cause. I was wondering if you could do it all over again would you still go to chiropator school? Also in your opinion which chiropractor schools actually teach how to treat the root cause instead or just popping and cracking or is that something you have to learn on your own?

My chiro changed my life forever, they did a complete family history check, my diet, exercising and doing what and how exactly, x-rays galore, focused on one spot at a time than just a cure all, gave me a plan of how their going to cure me, looked at my shoes, my work and the type of floors, my footing, EVERYTHING. They bring me in to deep massage me, than put on electric pads, than put me in ice or hot bath depends, gets me into pt, than stretching and proper exercise, than I see my Dr and we go over every single problem and what needs to be focused on mostly to fix the problem. Basically filtering out the real main issue and going from there. Than adjusts me on the area that needs it, than gives me anything to help, brace, foot cushion, foam roller etc. That's a good chiro who doesn't want to keep seeing you forever and wants to prevent surgery and one who cares to the core on your daily well being

And to further explain …. Not everyone has the discipline or compliance for the exercise part so they still want to experience the passive component. Not all conditions require exercise to gain benefits, that’s fact. Adjustments are a form of spine mobilization which is good for the discs, the joints between bones, and it helps to destreza the nervous system out of sympathetic response, scientific fact.

They’re not a bad chiropractor for doing their job, which is to adjust the spine. That’s what they’re trained to do. They’re not trained coaches and insurance doesn’t cover a lot of therapeutic exercise for chiros so they stay in their lane. I’ve done open room adjusting with 5 minutes per patient for a lot of years. Most chiro patients don’t want a lot of time, I don’t either. Adjust me and send me on my way. It’s a tool to help with training, period. Every patient needs to be training. Sure I believe in a magical office where I can spend an hour with each patient but most patients refuse to work on their biomechanics even when I explain to them the same issues over and over and over so guess what … they get popped and I say have a nice day. I pick my battles. But don’t judge us for doing what we’re trained to do.

I just recently went to a chiro for (what I found out later) was a torqued pelvis. I couldn't bend over, I know when and how I did it, there was an audible sound and pain. He took x-rays on the initial visit, found what it was, and adjusted me that morning along with my leg that was apparently short (go figure). I was a little sore into the next day, but my movement is infinitely better, I can stand for longer, I don't feel the need to lean like I did, even before the injury. I've gone back once since then, but even after the initial visit, he asked when I was next planning on going to the gym and it happened that that afternoon was a gym day and he specifically told me to not stop and to keep deadlifting. He gave me the "you may need to do lighter weight than usual for now" speech, but both visits he told me to not stop going and doing my usual training. Just the fact that he encouraged me to keep going signaled to me that he's confident in his work/diagnosis and knows what he's doing.

I had a chiropractor and the first appointment we did x-rays, they looked at my posture and had me to do certain movements. That's enough. The second appointment is when we started doing the adjustments and they'd give me homework with a bunch of exercises to do and even showing me the best way to sleep and the best way to climb out of bed.

My old chiro from 15 years ago was legit and used to actually work on me including pregame with someone doing a massage. I would be in there for a while and the cracking was literally a small part of it at the very end.
Now for the past 8 years I been trying chiros and all they want to do is crack everything and send me out in under 3 minutes. I thought I was going crazy thinking this isn’t what a real “chiropractor” does.

Great point. Some chiropractors are like this. They don’t truly care for the patient and just do it for the money. But some are extremely helpful and treat the patient with whatever will benefit them most. It’s also easier said than done to give patients different exercises and stretches to do, and them actually doing them.

Each session became shorter but cost the same as the first visit which was longer. About 30 minutes. Every other session was about 15 minutes each time. I've had three L5/S1 subluxations (partial dislocation) over 61 years from over training. Immediately stopped when I felt the pain. Went straight to the chiropractor the next day and got realigned. No herniated discs ever and have the lumber spine of a five year old with X-ray proof. If you leave it or push through the pain, like Ronny Coleman, your next stabbing pain will be a disc herniation. I also had a stiff neck from not going to a chiropractor for multiple whiplashes and concussions from rugby, bicycle and motorcycle accidents and at 59 the chiropractor fixed it. If you have neck pain or a stiff neck after an accident and you think it's just a pulled muscle your body produces bone spurs to immobilise your spine to protect the spinal cord. If you have repeated whiplashes and concussions and do not get adjusted your cervical discs will progress from stage 1 arthritis (normal disc thickness but misaligned vertebrae) to stage 4 (total cervical disc fusion). It takes about 20 to 30 years.

I have been a chiro assistant for years now. I absolutely love seeing the people that get results in such a short amount of time. I’ve had ladies walking in crying because they have thrown their back out and 2-3 adjustments later they are walking completely upright as if it had never happened. Yes there are some out there who are in it for the money and don’t give a crap about the patient AVOID THEM!!!! Read reviews, look for ones who have had patients for years. They are out there. But people need to remember you won’t be perfect on the first adjustment, just like I tell some people, you don’t go to a gym one time and walk out with a 6-pack. Please just do research and don’t give up because it is a great a wonderful practice. It works even better when doing it in combo with other practices, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture they are peanut butter and jelly. They are both good solo but even better together!

Chiropractic is about finding and correcting subluxation. What these guys are looking for is a chiropractor who also does physical therapy and personal training. The cause of the patient's problem is their own lifestyle. And many personal trainers and physical therapists are making people worse by having their clients squat or deadlift, do mobility that their body can't genetically do without injury, or stretching (which injures discs). So go to the chiropractor to correct your subluxation. Then the patient has a choice: stop doing the activities that are making him worse, like his workouts....or just expect to go to the chiropractor for maintenance visits, like Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, and all the greats.

The vast majority of chiropractors do give their patients proper “at home” protocols and lifestyle recommendations including corrective exercises, diet, sleep etc. However, patient compliance is sometimes a problem. Also chiropractic alignments do more than just relieve pain, but actually improve the entire health potential by relieving stress off of the muscles, joints, nerves, and organs connected to those nerves. Studies prove that regular visits to the chiropractor are an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.

Dude I get your point, but I'm pretty sure that chiros use their method because they would go bankrupt otherwise. 9/10 people want an instant treatment and don't want to work for themselves truly, and it's just not enough to work with just 1/10 of the people by the time the 9/10 say you're bad cuz you did "nothing" for the first "x" sessions. Part of those 9/10 are lazy, part ultra busy and just need a quick relief, part ignorant and part stupid and can't get your point about a "good" chiro treatment

Completely agree. On the other side of the equation are people unwilling to put in the work to maintain good biomechanics, adhere to corrective or rehab or strengthening exercises, stretching, diet, etc. it goes both ways.
Also, multiple chiro visits isn't necessarily indicative of inefficacy. The same way one would have multiple visits to an OT, PT, or trainer, people need to understand that chiropractic visits aren't a one stop shop and fix all solution. It requires maintenance and adherence to lifestyle changes in addition to whatever adjustments, modalities, and soft tissue work a chiro can administer

I was just trying to get a friend to understand this. A good chiropractor will bring relief through an adjustment back to proper alignment and also give exercises to maintain the adjustment. Even if the exercises are more physical therapy like in nature...the adjustment will set and stay making the patients quality of life better by giving them exercises to maintain
.. instead they (not all) make the patient so dependent that they don't do the work of staying functional after they get popped. They spend all of this money and they could be living a better quality of life because they do the work to maintain the adjustment. I truly believe they will make more money by helping them.and not crippling them

Personally, it feels like my lower back is filled with wet sand/cement. If im in a supine or seated position I don't feel any pain. The pain occurs when I transition from seated to standing, standing to seated, seated to supine. It takes a little while for me to switch positions. I do tend to feel the pain when standing for long periods of time or walking, but that pain is a little higher in the mid back. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We enjoy powerlifting, but it can be hard on your body, even when you're trying to be as careful as possible. I think it's great to be in with a Chiropractor who can give us feedback about proper alignment& adjust any smaller issues, before they become worse& harder to manage. Patients always do best when they take personal responsibility& follow the Dr's instructions outside of the office. The Dr tries to screen out patients who just want "fast food" style care.

You don't just crack when not require. An x-ray will reveal if you need to be adjust, in fact vital sign such as blood pressure and any cardiac conditions should be verify because patient like these might not be able to absorb pressure on thoracic during prone position. Same with diabetic and osteoporosis patients. I used to had the best chiropractor long time ago but he retired and since then became my nightmare until recently I found one decent and do most than anyone I had seen before but I am not sure if my age sometimes becomes a liability, I don’t osteoporosis, artritis my bones are strong but I suffer from things that I think are important a little dehydration a lot stress and because my nasal congestion I can’t breathe well from the nose, so I don’t know if this should be a problem or not. The thing my adjustment doesn’t last long enough

I’ve been a chiropractor for 37 years. I went to the best school in the country. I work in a multidisciplinary medical facility. I started the chiropractic department there. None of you guys know what you’re talking about. And if you would like for me to come to your show and discuss it. I’d be happy to do that.

It is called open room practices, legit points!! But daily stressors do affect peoples physiology daily, so maintenance care is not a bad thing in my opinion I have been helped allot by just getting some home exercises and simply getting adjusted :)

Guys I just started seeing an upper cervical chiropractor for cervical instability. I am paying $3000 for this. Am I being scammed?
I heard the upper cervical chiropractors are way better than average chiropractors.

I’ve been a chiropractor for 35 years. I don’t know what your education level is, but you really don’t know what you are talking about. Adjustments only do work. You clearly don’t understand the underlying pathology. Have me on your problem and let chiropractors defend themselves.

Thank you. I had a bad accident and my chiropractor fixed me right up. These guys are quacks, not chiropractors.

Ppl just bash things for content and just forget that most ppl don’t have disposable income to go to a PT and then a Chiro then tell them they just don’t want to work for it, when they’re literally trying to get out of pain to go to work. Since that’s all life has ever been for the majority.

The future of the healing arts, especially chiropractic, is movement focused therapy. However there are undeniable neurophysiologic effects that happen after adjustment for the relief of chronic pain and improvement of proprioceptive function. These neurophysiologic effects are what the kind of chiropractors, who "wack em n crack em," are selling

My current upper cervical chiropractor has recommended 1 exercise but only after I asked him if there were any exercises that could help.

I would never go to a chiropractor, a chiropractor is like sky diving, only few people die, well, I do not wanna be part of that percentage, my surfing wipeouts have been enough for my back and neck adjustments

Totally disagree about the adjust only. The ONLY one I went to in GA who was no-frills adjust. I felt great and did not have to keep seeing him every week. Guys he relieved the pressure and I was relieved. EXERCISE with stretching can get your body better balanced
