  • “What’s the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?”
    If I had a nickel for every time I was asked this question, I would have a house down payment. In the GTA no less.
    This question is anticipated by every modern chiropractor. So much so that Canada’s largest chiropractic school - CMCC - readily prepares and “tests” us on it. The problem? I think it’s a bad answer.
    In this video, we’ll be going through what CMCC would consider a “good” answer for this question, but more importantly, what I consider the ACTUAL answer to be after my years out in practice.

    Physiotherapists possess the necessary diagnostic skills and knowledge to identify and manage a wide range of conditions. Their expertise in musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory, and other health issues allows them to contribute significantly to the diagnosis and treatment of various ailments.

    As a mastsr coach in Pilates im doing research to where to go next and what suits my natural niché.
    I habe to say for me. I agree people dont care as much as we do.
    I had a C;
    How long or why so long to get better. People dont realise some of their indiffciencies took years to get bad and it can take a long time to recorrect what is wrong.
    I want to be educated or get more educated but some of those aspects are discouraging.

    What do you think about KST or Koren Specific Technique? It seems like nonsense to me, but, I want your opinion.

      Hi Joe,
      I have never heard of KST before, so I took a moment to watch a few videos. As far as I know, it is not taught in modern chiro education systems. It most reminds me of something known as “activator” technique, which instead of relying on manual adjustments, utilizes a small tool to provide movement to target segments.
      Force = mass x velocity. In cases of manual adjusting, mass is greater but velocity is lesser. In case of tool adjusting, velocity is greater but mass is lesser. Either way can still produce sufficient force in most cases. This comes down to patient preference. I have used activator on some of my most elderly/osteoporotic patients, for example.
      One thing I would be wary of are the claims that can be made by practitioners of KST. Pulling up some google searches, I found some that are of… questionable nature. The website for koren technique itself sites this as a possible treatment method for issues such as phobias, addictions, bad habits etc. as far as I know, the best current intervention for these issues is psychotherapy - not getting adjusted (I am rolling my eyes as I type this out). Because the “founder” themselves totes this, I imagine any adopters would as well.
      At the end of the day, I try very hard not to poo-poo any other providers, no matter how greatly I disagree or question them. Try everything twice - once to get over the awkwardness and again to see if it actually works. Then move on if it doesn’t work in the way you’re looking for.
      Personal opinion: I would not see a KST provider. Find a diversified or evidence-based chiropractor instead.

    Pelvic upshoot because of Pilates. I feel that Pilates should have a more broad scale of study as our knowledge is so on par. I wish I could have the titles to validate my opinion on the work a pjysio does as well as what I personally do in my practice

    I am struggling to get my education sorted. It's be nice for some experienced opinions on my thoughts as to where to sit. Like it basically sounds like with my 8 yeaes of experience in Pilates that maybe jumping to be a chiro would allow for more divietsity? Also the Dr title yes cool to have but for the sake of being heard when trying to educate the masses and have a say that will be heard and changed. I was anpro dancer before all of this. When i look back i wouldnt have had such a hard time in classesnif my teachers were trained in Pilates or Physio. My hyper extended lower back created problems in my training and was ruthlessly corrected. It wasnt my back. It was my major psoas as i discovered myself after understanding my own body through mindful training. Its appaulling and i want that change.
