The Glenn Miller Orchestra were one of the most popular bands of the big band era. He was responsible for all that great swing music before all the other artists in this compilation. It was only fitting that the medley should begin and end with his music. Hats off to whoever suggested this song. I never would have thought of it. Well done!
@sidrat2009 I had a "best of" Glenn Miller album that I listened to about a million times. He was before my time, but my mother used to listen to him and I was hooked!
When this was released all these "old" songs would be familiar to most people. Glen Miller ( trombonist ) is not 1950s though as he died in a plane crash during the war.
Yes. Glenn Miller was performing in Europe entertaining Allied Forces at USO Shows during World War II. Miller’s plane went missing while flying over the English Channel in 1944. Either it was shot down by the Luftwaffe, or went down due to a mechanical malfunction. Some people in recent years have speculated that Glenn Miller was a sleeper agent for Nazi Germany, and that the plane was flown back to Germany upon the completion of his long-term mission.
@@LaptopLarry330 It was likely a weather related crash. There were several other aircraft up at the time and their plane was there and then not. It was horrible cloud, wind and rain, and many pilots refused to fly but he demanded to go to prepare for the next day's performance for the troops.
Jay & Amber, the opening song "In The Mood' by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra(1939). That was bandleader Glenn in the center with the trombone. Other great bandleaders of the era: Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton and Tommy Dorsey. Duke - Piano, Benny - Clarinet, Count - Piano, Lionel - Xylophone, Tommy - Trombone.
No love yet for Eddie Cochran. You can see him in the two second shot before Elvis. He did more before he died at 21 than many in their whole career. More reactors need to hear him.

I have this entire album, bought it years ago when it came out. LOVE it because it STARTS and ENDS with the music of the GREAT GLENN MILLER of the BIG BAND era of the 1940a. THIS is the music my Dad played as a musician, in several of those BIG BANDS during the mid to late '40s and into the "50s. He primarily played clarinet and sax in those orchestras. This is the music I heard when I was a child in the early '50s ( I was born in 1947) He also played Flute and Violin. He was an active musician until he was 98 years old He died at 102 in 2020. MISS you Dad and hearing you play.
This sort of came out of the Swing revival. You should check out Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and/or Brian Setzer Orchestra for more original stuff like this.
The opening scene, with Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, is from the movie “Sun Valley Serenade” (1941). The man shown playing piano is actor John Payne, who also played lawyer Fred Gailey in the movie “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947). The woman being led to her table is three time Olympic Ice Skating Champion, Sonja Henie. It also starred Milton Berle. Oddly enough, I just watched that movie a couple weeks ago.
I haven't heard that in years and I can't believe that I remembered every song, transition and every flourish. Yay to taping songs off of the radio in the 80s & 90s lol.
Wasn't that fun to do?!!! And recording songs off of albums. Recording songs off the radio you had to end it just at the right time before the DJ started talking or another song started playing and if not you had to edit the ending ...lol.....oh those were such fun times!!! I did that especially in the 1970's....one of the best in music eras.

They probably didn't get permission to use Elvis recordings that's why it's not his voice but it is his image and it is his songs. Also at the end when the orchestra was playing for a while at one point it almost felt like it was the cantina scene in Star wars
I was gonna ask for some Jive Bunny a while back, so this was a pleasant surprise :) They had 2 more no.1s back in 1989. Let's Party and my favourite That's What I Like. Might i request that one next?

Yes that was Elvis physically but NOT vocally as that was some Brit putting on an abysmal Elvis impression...and there was the late great Eddie Cochran but sadly you didn't get to hear his wonderful unforgettable voice.
I remember having the Jive Bunny album on 12-inch vinyl in the 80s and playing it to death. My parents exposed me to so many cool tunes, and Jive Bunny was one way of combining them all. Their other song, That's What I Like, was just as fun and was popular in the UK.

Glenn Miller...my absolute favorite mistro of the Big Band Era (1940's) Little Brown Jug, In the Mood, Midnight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo, String of Pearl's..just to name a few...he died during WW2 in a plane crash crossing the channel from England. There's a great movie about his life.
I was just listening to this album in my car last week. I bought this CD when it came out in 1990. All 8 tracks are mixed just like this with different themes. Worth checking out.
There was lots of mastermix records in the 80's probably the first to start it off was Stars On 45, in 81 which was a Beatles medley, they also did an ABBA one
This was a mainstay at the skating rink when I was a kid! This one and the Grease Megamix. Brings back all the best memories! 🥰 (Most of the songs were 1950s but the Glen Miller stuff was ‘40s.)
Great to hear this again. I don’t think many people realise just how significant the Big Band Sound was, especially the Glenn Miller Orchestra during the war, setting up popular music as we know it today. Moving on from the Blues, Jazz and Folk etc, and then into Sinatra and the Bobby Soxers, before Elvis and early Rock & Roll setting up the Beatles and on into modern Rock bands. Superb music, but very much of its time. Can you imagine what a 19th Century audience would make of this? They thought the composer and virtuoso pianist Franz Liszt was “out there”. I would love to go back in time and see their response to this; it could well be seen as the work of the devil. 🫢🤘
This was such a fun mix. Thanks for showing it. I remember loving it when I heard it on the radio in the 80's. Very popular in Australia when it was released.
This was a great way for 80s teens to get to hear the older music. Some hated it, lol. I always loved it, but then I always loved the old music and movies even as a teen.
Yep this was stuff from the 1950s sandwiched between Glenn Miller's, "In The Mood". And if you watch closely about a minute or so before the end, they intercut some scenes from a movie where the actor Jimmy Stewart played the part of Glenn Miller. You see Jimmy in some of those close-ups, although 90% of the band footage was the real Glenn Miller.
That song at the beginning and end was called "In the Mood" and was performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It's likely that the title of the mix you reacted to was based on this song's title.
Glenn Miller...King of the Big Bands. This is a whole genre you guys need to explore. Along with Glenn, there was Tommy Dorsey ("Marie") and his brother, Jimmy Dorsey ("Man, That's Groovy"). Theres Count Basie and Duke Ellington ("Take The A Train"). As many of in the comments have pointed out, this is where the Swing of Rock and Roll originated. Enjoy! Chair Dance! and Love!!
They had loads of albums and it was pretty much all you needed for a party. They were aways put on first to get people going, as you say you just can’t keep still.
The Glenn Miller songs included "In The Mood" and "Pennsylvania 6-5000". The second clip was from the movie "The Glenn Miller Story" starring James Stewart.
Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers were big here in Australia as well as the UK. None of the songs or music were played by the original artist but a variety of singers. Their next big hit was "That's What I Like" which uses another iconic piece of music as the bookends.
Jive Bunny, was No. 1 in the UK charts for almost 3 weeks, but the 'artist-mixer' Les Hemstock is said to have made only £100 after being sued multiple times for copyright infringements.
I had a friend of mine own this on cassette tape, and we played it consistently throughout high school. I ended up owning this on CD. I'm afraid to get their other albums in case it ruins the legacy of this one.
Jive Bunny actually had three no.1 singles in the UK that year. They won't exactly go down in history as one of the great acts but 8 year old me learned a lot about music from the past through these guys. Their second no.1 "That's What I Like" used the theme from Hawaii Five-O as its main hook.
That first clip and the last clip was of Glenn Miller and his band from the movie “Sun Valley Serenade” 1941 the song was “in the Mood” also from the same film try “Chattanooga Choo Choo” also try (not in the movie) “Moonlight Serenade”. Millier died in a plane crash in December of 1944 he was in service in WWII.
The Glenn Miller Story, with James Stewart as Glenn Miller is worth to watch, you can see the rise from a poor member of every band who’s paying him, to one of the greatest band leaders of all time… Glenn Miller was a superstar in those times
This takes me back to the eighties. This was a HUGE hit and the fashion at the time was very much rocka-billy influenced. Kids, both boys and girls, were wearing brothel creepers, turned up baggy jeans and leather jackets if they were in our budgets. Love your reaction.
Man, Jive Bunny was everywhere in the UK at this time.

"In the mood" is the perfect swing song! My wife and I dance to it whenever we hear it, like... right now!
My Mother Loved this. Heard many times and I'm also a fan.
This is so much fun! Their whole album has mixes like this, you should check out more!
I was just listening to this album in my car last week. I bought this CD when it came out in 1990. All 8 tracks are mixed just like this with different themes. Worth checking out.
I think they made 3 Jive Bunnys Videos back in the 1980s. love you to see them.
The horn part at the beginning and end is "In The Mood" by the Glenn Miller Orchestra
There was lots of mastermix records in the 80's probably the first to start it off was Stars On 45, in 81 which was a Beatles medley, they also did an ABBA one
This was a mainstay at the skating rink when I was a kid! This one and the Grease Megamix. Brings back all the best memories! 🥰
(Most of the songs were 1950s but the Glen Miller stuff was ‘40s.)
I was so obsessed with Jive Bunny. It was the first cassette that I ever wore out.
Absolutely magnificent!! Thanks!!👏
If I remember right, that song and ones like it started a resurgence of people learning to do that old style dancing.
This was such a huge hit in the UK back in 1989...nuff respect to jive bunny and the mastermixers.
This was a huge dance tune in clubs around Houston TX. back in the 80's and 90's.
Great track to have on while running - keeps those legs a turning!!
I remember this playing in dance clubs in the late '80s.
One of my favourite films. Jimmy Stewart was wonderful.
I think most of the movie is footage of Sun Valley Serande
That song at the beginning and end was called "In the Mood" and was performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It's likely that the title of the mix you reacted to was based on this song's title.
Mostly songs from the 40's & 50's!! Love it!!!!! Back in the day of big bands & early rock & roll!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Totally forgot about this song!! Of course I haven't heard it since '89 or '90 when it was popular!! Good to hear again. Their only hit in the U.S..
Never Thought you would do this- wow awesome song.
The Glenn Miller songs included "In The Mood" and "Pennsylvania 6-5000". The second clip was from the movie "The Glenn Miller Story" starring James Stewart.
So glad you both loved this as much as i hoped you would, the whole album is like this.
Indeed. It was no. 1 for 5 weeks. They had two further number ones in 1989.
@@davidhuggan6315 5 weeks wow !
loved Jive Bunny back in day.
Stars on 45...loved that
Fun mash-up of songs!
I had a friend of mine own this on cassette tape, and we played it consistently throughout high school. I ended up owning this on CD. I'm afraid to get their other albums in case it ruins the legacy of this one.
So lived these in the day. They had loads out great group. So much fun too. Was something so very different. ❤❤❤
I love Jive and Big Band Music
