I am so glad to have grown up during the time period when the music of our generation we listened to was GREAT! I feel they should play all these great hit songs on car radios again and elsewhere as would make the world a better place. The music of the 50's, 60's and 70's made people smile, laugh, and dance. Great times. Wonderful memories.

Shirley was Shirley Goodman who previously had a hit in 1956 "Let the Good Times Roll" as Shirley and Lee. She passed away in 2005. And Company was Jesus (Jason) Alvarez who is now a pastor at a church in New Jersey.

This 1974 song reminded me of two other disco songs from the seventies: "Shame" by Evelyn Champagne King from 1977 and "Stuff Like That" by Quincy Jones from 1978. And the male singer here, Jesus Alvarez, he's got a Little Richard voice.

Amber I think the actor with the high voice you were thinking of was Marion Ramsey from 'Police Academy'.
This was huge back in the day, Shirley and Company, were Shirley Goodman and Jason 'Jesus' Alvarez produced by Sylvia Robinson who was the co-owner of 'All Platinum Records', they had other hits "Cry, Cry, Cry", and "I Like to Dance" and "Disco Shirley", they released other tracks but this was there biggest it.

That was my thought as well.
I had thought that Ms McQueen used that voice just for her character in the movie but I saw an interview done with her decades after the movie and that seemed to be her natural speaking voice.
Though sometimes people have very different speaking and singing voices.
Jim Nabors comes to mind - deep singing voice but a high pitched speaking voice.

Another Shirley for you to check out: Shirley Murdock. She collaborated with Roger Troutman before switching to gospel, but what hits! "As We Lay" (one of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard), "Go On Without You," "Husband," and the very late disco "Let There Be Love" are some of the highlights. I believe you played King Floyd's "Groove Me," but you'd also like Fern Kinney's cover. She sang backup on King Floyd's original.

My third favorite Brothers Johnson songs. But the song that I first heard that made me become a fan, and my second favorite after Stomp, was their hit song "I'll Be Good to You", written by George Johnson and was also produced by the great Quincy Jones who over a decade later had Ray Charles and Chaka Khan sing the lead vocals of this song for his album. Quincy Jones produced several of the The Brothers Johnson albums and early Michael Jackson albums, which bassist Louis Johnson also played on - notably the Billie Jean bassline). Louis played bass on many songs for different artists across many genres.

I requested this a few months ago and I'm so glad you finally got around to reacting to it... When I first heard this years ago I thought to myself that this is total fire...Shirley passed away a while back and her singing partner here posted a short tribute to her and said how much he loved her and how they both loved singing together... Great reaction guys...great pick...See you on the next one... Keep being awesome !!!...

A #12 Pop and #1 Disco/Dance and #1 Soul hit from 1974. Shirley Goodman, with her distinctive voice, had a hit (as Shirley & Lee) way back in 1956 with "Let the Good Times Roll," a classic of the early rock/doo-wop era.
