I feel sorry for people who missed the seventies and eighties....you have no idea how much fun and how cool the music was... awesome in every way.
We We're so lucky!
If we tried to explain the way it was,and how good.no one would or could believe us anyway since f they were not there.
Born 1971 here and YES~!!!!! Ive partied with everyone from The Ramones to Green Day (before musicians felt they were too good for their fans)
So true, 53 years old now, so you do the math, as a teenager listening to his songs when they first came out, nothing like it, Billy was the man.
Bro my son was born 2013 and was Billy idol for Halloween if you don't teach um they don't know about the older stuff that still hits today.
Anybody remember people chanting “Hey everybody, get laid, get fucked!” during the silence in the song’s verses whenever this version was played to a crowd?
Absolutely! Except depending on where we were we said hey motherf*cker, get laid, get fucked 😉
I came here to say this
For damn shore!!!
They banned this song at our school dances for this reason lol
❤
Billy Idol was hopping around the stage, fell off, and landed on top of me at a college show. He hopped up and lifted me up back up to my feet, took my hand, and hopped around on floor with us. We lifted him back to the stage. I don't think he ever missed a beat or stopped performing.
That is a awesome story, hope you were not hurt.
I was so in love with him as a teen in the 80s here in Australia, my sister had boy George posters on her wall and I had Billy posters.
I was just lucky enough to go see this man in concert a week ago. At 67, he still rocks like crazy! The whole auditorium went NUTS when he started this one. He is a true inspiration for us GenX'ers who are only old in years... not in mindset! Love you Billy!!!!
The guitarist is Steve Stevens and he's amazing. This song was a huge hit for Tommy James and the Shondells in 1968 and again for Billy.
Even better... This was a US number 1 song, and the previous number one was Tiffany, "I Think We're Alone Now", which was also a Tommy James and the Shondells hit. I went to see that band in Toronto back in the late 1980s.
Yes, you guys need to listen to the orginal by Tommy James and the Shondells.
The name Billy Idol comes from a play on words from his school days. One of his teachers used to say, "There's Billy sitting idle again" (not doing his work). It stuck and he became Billy Idol in later years.
Please check out Tommy James and the shondels version.
I love love TommyvJames and the Shondells
Duuude. Have you not seen The Wedding Singer?? Everyone loves Billy Idol.
Don’t you talk to billy idol that way
Mandatory in clubs back in the ‘80s! The crowd would go nuts on the dance floor - jumping up and down, screaming “YEAH!!! at the appropriate times. ‘Mony, Mony’ was one of those songs that made everyone euphoric.
At his big venue concerts too
YEAH!
It was still huge like that when I worked in a club around 2000. I am certain it still is, if and when it gets played.
Miss my 80s
Get laid,,,, get ffffdddd
Living through the 80s was just pure awesomeness! The older I get, the more I just appreciate being born in the late 60s.
Totally agree. I was born in the early 60s. Even kids today recognize how good the music was back in the 70s and 80s. I am glad I was around in both decades and witnessed it first hand.
@@elizabethchapman9523 1960 here....Back then you would have a favorite song, and at least once a week a great song would be released and be your new favorite....
1967 here for me
Steve Stevens on guitar. Great axeman. He also does a killer solo on Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana"
Love Dirty Diana you are so right !
This is a cover of the Tommy James & the Shondells' hit. If you want to explore them... Mony Mony, Crystal Blue Persuasion, and Crimson and Clover are all very good.
also hanky panky
...and they could do the Joan Jett version of Crimson and Clover for a Female Friday
Also "I Think We're Alone Now." And Tommy's solo tune " Draggin' The Line. "
And then Joan Jett went and covered Crimson and Clover...
Guys, and gals I have NEVER EVER seen any reactors get so heavily involved and so INTO a song they are reacting to as these 2 our boy Jay and our girl Amber. My hats off to you both this is quite the treat watching you hear for the first time music I grew up with and especially Billy Idol
I am jamming just watching them jamming in the studio! LOL!
This is an old classic. I had never heard Billy Idol sing it and he done did it up GOOD! Do not contain yourselves....I think that anyone watching this is dancing!!!!
I'm crying
I miss the good days
This gets played at pretty much any wedding with a DJ. The crowd reply that you can't hear in the video is required at all gatherings this song is played at.
I use to do DJ and KJ and this is one of a couple of songs that are banned at school dances
‘Hey say what get laid get f*cked!’ I’ll never forget it🤣🤣🤣
@@sallyh5413 In every club I heard this song at in the late 80s the crowd would scream the "get laid, get f*cked!" part in case you missed it. I worked for a local band at the time and in between sets club DJs played the hell out of this song. The band and the crew would stop everything and shout out the phrase every time it came up. Heard the song at least 3 times every night in 1987 at the clubs we played at.
@@sallyh5413 In Montreal we always said " Hey motherfucker, get laid get fucked"
I was looking for this comment. The obligatory drunken R rated call and response.
Never, EVER, restrain yourselves, Jordan and Amber! It's that energy that you two have, that embraces Life, that's what brings me back, day after day! I love how excited you both get.
I agree. I love watching them explore such great music and seeing how it impacts them.
But I wish they wouldn't talk so much thruout the songs!
Agree!!! 💯
Billy never disappoints!!! ❤❤❤🎤🎤🎤🎸🎸
Im a little older, 66 born in 57. I didn't start going to bars and nightclubs until the 70s. I kind of feel sorry for the younger people who missed out on the 70s, 80s and 90s
"Dancing With Myself" "Cradle of Love" and his cover of The Doors' "L.A. Woman" are three more of his reaction-worthy songs.
You nailed it.
Yes!!! Listen to both of these suggestions. So cool like someone else said to see someone for the first time hear an artist we grew up with and we keep saying we had the best music in high school. The 80'!!!
Not enough people react to Cradle of Love and LA woman. The latter is one of the best covers ever
YES - please react to the music video version of "Cradle of Love"!
Cradle of Love is a banger. I also like Sweet Sixteen for showing a different side of his voice.
Every time this song came on back in the day people added to the song at top volume….”Here she come now Mony Mony…” people would say “GET LAID GET F’D!!!” Erase my comment after you read this. Don’t want the girls to see it
Yep!
You can read Idol's lips wording that phrase during the video.
😂😂it’s ok…it’s what I remembered too…only we were raunchy drunk kids on the dance floor at the club… in masses screaming…hey!..hey what…get laid…get f✨✨✨to the beat drop …so bad😂😂…hope the girls never find us out ✌️💕
I admit. I chanted that more than one time myself. The girls chanted too. 😅😅 miss those happy times.
Dancing to this in a downstairs bar that was at least 120 degrees inside, with standing room only on the dance floor,is one of my most fun memories of the 80’s.
The original version by Tommy James and the Shondells was the number one record here in the UK on the day I was born (July 1968) 😊
Much love from England 🏴
The Shondels got copied by many artists. “ I think we are alone now” comes to mind their version was the original and got copied and became a massive hit
The Shondells were great but at the same time they were a bit of a manufactured band that used songwriters.
A bit like the monkees.
The songs would of gone to on to other artists until they found a home.
I love Tommy James and The Shondells...My baby does the hanky panky...towin'the Line etc.
I was trying to remember who did it first! Still, great job by Billy Idol!
Tommy James and the Shondells!
Wow, back sitting in Bobby's Volkswagen in the parking lot at Art School. Chips and onion dip for lunch with my best friend. Great memories!
Amber, NEVER apologize for feeling the music. Billy Idol brings it out every time.
But I wish they wouldn't talk so much....
Billy is amazing! This is a cover but it is great! Honestly like it better than original. But I like the original too Tommy James and the Shondells
Absolutely a 60s song from Tommy James and the Shondells, magnificently updated for the 80s by the consummate 80s rocker, Billy Idol.
Billy Idol guitarist is Steve Stevens he’s a great guitarist and he’s done many other things. He also did the guitar anthem for Top Gun!
This was a HUGE hit for Billy. Then again, all Billy's records were hits. This one was released in 1981.
1991
No, it was indeed released in 1981 and not 1991.
@@Teletran35 It was released in 1987. Google has it being released in 1981 but it's a typo.
@@brucew7062 1st released n 1968 by Tommy James and the Shondells, Billy covered it
And we were still partying to it in college in late 80s! His music aged very well
I was a bouncer in a bar when this song was out. One of our jobs was to go down into the basement and fetch beer cases out of the cooler and throw them up through the trap door behind the bar to the bartender. The dance floor was right above there, and when this song came on everyone in the bar jammed onto the dance floor and did a kind of hop dance that would make the whole floor above your head flex in a terrifying manner! Also, there was a point in the chorus that everyone would shout "HEY! Get la*d, get fu**ed!" No idea when or where that started but everyone in the bar shouted it.
The DJs would egg us on.
Ya, the crowd was always “Get laid! Get Phucked!” along with the song.😆
At 5:10, you can see him mouthing the words.
The complete chant in the club I frequented back in the day was " Hey, say what- get laid, get f*cked "...
In the club's in Germany it was "Hey motherphuker, get laid get phuked. " Those were some great times and the best music.
Was this a hit???? YES! Played in dance clubs often, when the crowd is kinda slow.... put on this tune... everyone’s on their feet jumping up and down! It will bring life to the party every time!
Billy Idol’s original 1981 remake of this 1968 chart-topper by Tommy James & the Shondells made little impact on US radio, reaching #7 on the US Bubbling Under Chart.
In late 1987, Idol’s live performance of the song shot the song all the way back to #1 in the US. It also reached #2 in New Zealand and #13 in Switzerland.
That year, a trend began in dance clubs around the US where the crowd would shout back obscenities during the silence in the song’s verses, differing in various regions. One popular variation of the callback is: “Hey everybody, get laid, get fucked!”
If this song doesn't get you out of your chair, punching your fist, bobbing your head and shouting, "Yeah!" then you have to be dead. Nobody does that better than Billy Idol.
Originally done by Tommy James and the Shondells
Steve Stevens on the guitar is someone to keep your ears and eyes on. Him and Billy are great together.
STEVE STEVENS IS THE GUITARIST. THEIR ORIGINAL BAND WAS GENERATION X. THE SONG WAS FIRST PERFORMED BY TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS IN THE 1960'S
My favorite Billy song is “Rock the Cradle of Love.” And I love the video. And if you love Billy, you’ve got to watch “The Wedding Singer.” Billy saves the day!
Try eyes without a face,a different bily.shows you his versatility.
Omg cradle of love is def one of my favorites but like I love all his songs so
I’m so proud to have been a teenager in the 80s! If you’ve never seen it, I hope you watch the movie The Wedding Singer. It’s hilarious and Billy Idol is in it at the end!
Yup, yall gotta wathch it!
This song was a staple of bars and dance clubs in the 80's. Guaranteed the dance floor was packed and you couldn't hear yourself from everyone singing in unison. Absolute fire song.
It still is a bar favorite 😍
And when people are sauced, they scream that naughty addition to it😂 Billy is the best!!♥️✌
Billy Idol was still kick-ass on stage as of 11 years ago. Strutted out on the stage and bellowed "Hello, Oregon, I'm BILLY F***ING IDOL!!"
For a different side of him, try "Sweet Sixteen".
I am an 80’s girl. Saw him in concert when was 16. (1986) He was so bad ass. So much energy
Love this version. The original is by Tommy James and the Shondells from the 60's and it's great too
I actually saw Tommy James in a local rock club on Long Island I think right after this version of his song came out. Dude, he was so drunk he kept falling of the stage. LOL. but that just made it more fun. His other song that was a big cover hit was Clemson and Clover by Joan Jett.
I remember dancing to this song at the clubs. Of course we added the extra uncut lyrics to the song. You guys know what I'm talking about....lol
That’s all I could hear when listening to this song, but don’t want to say what was said… Glad it wasn’t just me
I certainly know what you're talking about; I, to this day, STILL say the "uncut lyrics" whenever I hear this song on the radio! My daughter thinks it's so hilarious-- "did u really sing that on the dance floor?"; yes, I did...
We went crazy at the club dancing & singing the "alternate" lyrics at the top of our lungs! What a great time it was lol
Yup! We know! Ha!
💯
Billy wastes no time getting right into it. Pure rock from beginning to end!
Love the appreciation of Mr idol. He's just the best rocker ever
It does my heart good to see people younger than me enjoying the music I was blessed to grow up with. I’m so glad I’m a subscriber to your channel, and thank you for your vast appreciation of music from days gone by. God bless you guys and your family!
Steve Steven's is the guitarist very underestimated.
If you love this, you'll definitely love the original by Tommy James and the Shondells. (Circa 1968)
P. S. I've been waiting for it since I started with this channel, and she finally did it! Amber did The Swim! 😁
Yes.
Yes‼️
ANYTHING by Tommy James!!
She’s got the right idea with the swim since Tommy James and the Shondells released it in 1968, but this song was just made for doing the pony to.
By far the best Reaction i can remember from Amber & Rob ..
This live version is far superior to the album version. Steve Stevens, the guitarist, is long-time collaborator of Billy's. The lady at the keyboards is Susie Davis -- props to her for maintaining her composure when Billy came over to her Fantastic performance and fantastic reaction!!
This is a cover of tommy james and the shondells original and it's a classic
He really has changed over the years, young was wilder, now he older, slowing down
Without the late 50's and 60's there would not have been the 70's and 80's. Rock on!
This song was actually a hit back in the 60's done by a group called "Tommy James and the Shandels" who had a lot of popular songs in the 60's. Crimson and Clover was a big hit by them also. Billy Idol took Mony Mony to a whole new level with his verson. 👍
And Joan Jett took Crimson and clover back to the top again
"Mony Mony" was first done by Tommy James & the Shondells in 1968, and the lyrics and beat are the same, but this Billy Idol's cover in 1981 takes the song to another level... Great Stuff!!!
1987
Tommy James's Mony Mony was MY JAM....I can't dance but let this drop and I was a dancing fool! !st time I heard Billy Idol's version was downtown in my city for an annul summer event and at the time DJ from local station was playing, and he dropped Billy's version and I immediately start rocking out but as I am listening I knew it wasn't Tommy...and I was like WTF is this, but it WAS GOOD! Really Good. So after the song is done, I go ask the DJ who that was, and he said Billy Idol. And I was like the "Eyes Without A Face" guy?? Cause that was all I really knew of him and "Dancing With Myself" and I was like MEH about him but boy I started paying attention after this! I am now a fan LOL
He brings it every time! Please respond to his song "Flesh for Fantasy".
Complex and shows his vocal skill.
Billy Idol has some AMAZING tracks, you can't help but get up and dance to it :D
He's such a cool fuckin guy too, there was an episode of Viva La Bam where Bam picks him up from the airport for a show near his town in his Lamborghini, and Billy's like "You know, I thought I'd be able to get a little sun before the show, I can't believe this car has no sunroof" and Bam's like WE CAN FIX THAT.
They call someone in to bring a Sawzall and there's this iconic shot of Billy Idol standing on top of Bam Margera's Lambo cutting a hole in the roof with a fucking sawzall lol
Steve Stevens, the guitarist, is amazing! He played lead on Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana". My favourite song/video by MJ. The two of them together are wild! It's a side of MJ I'd never seen before. Highly recommend! Make sure to watch the official video!
He was also in the movie Crossroads with Ralph Machio he was the “Devil” guitarist.
@@jrasak that was steve vai your thinking about.
Yes! My favorite MJ song too! I think I’ll go watch the video NOW, in fact! Lol
@@incantation521 yes!! You’re right! I had Steve correct though! 😂
@@jrasak both kick ass on guitar. Can't wait for vai"s new album next month.
This is definitely a great cover of this song. The original by Tommy James & the Shondells is fabulous.
That is great also.
@@willowb1527 Yes they should listen to the original
Tommy James also did "I Think We're Alone Now" that Tiffany later covered
Tommy James wrote this on his first ever trip th N.Y.C. His is THE version of this song.
Tommy James was outselling the Beatles for awhile and never got a royalty check.
I can still remember the good times on the dance floor with my girl friend Tessa rocking on to this tune in 1987.
It's the one and only, Billy Idol. 🙃
this song was played at every wedding reception .
And high school dance.
Yup
Every high school dance in the late 80’s played this song at least 3 times. Great memories.
This was banned at my high school dances because of the whole "Hey What" part.
I worked security for a Billy Idol show in 2019 and he was in amazing shape and voice. He was high energy, had the crowd p dancing all night. His son was also there and looks just like his dad. Great night 🎶🎶. I really do enjoy my job.
Every once in a while , an Artist comes along that really personifies and embodies their era , and Billy Idol is the 80's ! ! !
Billy is a proud grandpa now….Poppy Rebel has her own social media page on Instagram…..super cute watching them together.
Miss seeing Poppy’s feed.
This is a crowd response song. Whenever he says "Here He Comes Now Sayin' Mony Mony", the crowd responds "Hey, Get La*d, Get F*cked". Always listen for the crowd response. This is a big wedding reception song and the crowd at the party will still respond the same way.
Yeah, that got it banned at our high school dances
I've never heard that.
The crowd response I always heard was “Hey everybody, get laid, get drunk!” LOL
Danced to this many times in the dance clubs and say that part!!!
Every school dance we would get scolded for saying the response...lol
When someone says how sad it is that one's these days missed the 70s... You didn't. it's still with us
This song was written by; Tommy James (Tommy James and the Shondells), Ritchie Cordell, Bobby Bloom, Bo Gentry, way back in 1968.
The guitarist is Steve Stevens…… he’s a really monstrous player and is regarded as a brilliant artist in his own right as well as the stuff he did for Billy for a lot of years and then did an album with Vince Neil (his first solo album) and a lot of other things too ….
One of my favourites is his solo on MJ's "Dirty Diana".
@@richardkralick3062 That’s a killer too ….. he has a stunning tone and can change it to suit the song and take it from there ……
I loved that Atomic Playboys album....just listened to it again over the holidays
One of the best party, jump songs ever. We danced or really jumped to this when played in the clubs, we called it "jump rock".........Billy always performs with immense energy......crazy......nothing like being in a club and the whole place is literally jumping.
Yep and Van Halen singing "Jump".
We yelled a lot more than "hey" during this song.... LOL
Me & my girlfriends danced & yelled to this song in 1989 in NYC clubs.
Keep windmilling. Life’s too short to worry what strangers think
I met Billy Idol walking down the street of NY city back in the 80s and he was dressed the exact same way. He is so cool and awesome.
You guys are the best so far of the others I've seen.... your style is unique and you compliment each other very well such good chemistry unseen in others.... your reactions are very sincere and Amber is absolutely brilliant.
Good luck to you both and here's to another 193k subscribers. Cheers!! 💯🔥🎧
100% legit
And Amber is a babe....just putting it out there.
They were the first music reactor i subscribed to.
Yeah , Amber is sharp .
🎉❤
You can pronounce it ANYway you want cause once the song starts, we all know what song this is. This song will get anyone up on their feet. I would really enjoy watching you guys out on the town dancing. It'd be so enjoyable. Thanks for your reaction, guys....love your enthusiasm. Take care and be well. Peace.
A Billy Idol gig is NEVER time wasted.... he is a legend...
.....GET LAYED!!!!! .....GET F@#$!!!!!
Anyone else instantly have that pop in to their head?
This is a great cover version but please react to the original eventually too. Tommy James and the Shondells(1968) please and thank you 😁
I hate Billy Idol's version, but the wife likes it. So, I'm behind the 8 ball. Tommy James and the Shondells original version charted higher than this cover did.
"Dancing With Myself" "Cradle of Love" and "Fatal Charm" are all great Billy Idol hits to react to.🎧👍
Fatal charm great man 👍👍
Dancing with Myself is the first Billy Idol song I heard back in the day. Great suggestion!
"White Wedding" & "Rebel Yell" are two other good ones
“Dont Need a Gun” is a underrated Billy Idol song as well definitely deserves a reaction.
I was just going to suggest "Dancing with Myself" too. Many years ago, a friend and I were the only ones on the dance floor for a local band. They broke into that song 😅
Back in the '80s early, I used to go to the nightclubs that had dance floors. This was one of the highlights of the night to dance to. They never played it in the beginning. They'd wait till around midnight they would play this song, and that floor would be full of people dancing. Such a great song. And I'm so glad that you guys love it! I was jamming on my couch right here too. Jumping up and down like you were. This was originally sung by Tommy James and the shondells. It's not as jammy
i was standing in line to get his autograph aftrt his concert...and I asked him if i could get a hug and he STOOD UP and I kissed his ear and told him I loved him and he called me Darlin.....I have never recovered .....
One of my high school bops!!!!
I keep telling you the Billy Idol song you need to react to is TO BE A LOVER. IT has all the energy you need. A piano player with a stogie. Background singers swiveling their hips and tossing their 8o's hair to the ruthless pulse as Billy and Steven throw down in the ring. Nothing better. And Billy has said it gave him a chance to do his best Elvis lipcurl as he pleads for your love. Do yourselves a favor and react to this Vital Idol song before anyone else finds this perfect encapsulation of 8o's magic.
One more thing. Tommy James says the title of this song comes from the Mutual Of New York sign he saw outside his window when he got the idea for the song. Tbe initials MONY MONY wrapped around the corner of the top of the building.
I dare you not to dance to this one 🕺
Dancing with myself is another classic mr. Idol
Even the wallflowers would rush the dance floor when this came on.
Steve Stevens is the guitarist, awesome talent
Yes, love it, also like the original version but I like Billy Idols version better guess because his energy 💖💖💖 I think your right this has been my favorite so far.
If your feeling sluggish or depressed listen to this and you'll definitely have renewed energy, thanks guys💞💞💞
I liked the original first…
Can't not love ❤Billy and he has so many hits. Like Cradle of Love 💘and so much more ❤ .Much love to you and your wonderful family. We love you guys. 😍Brandi Modrak and Family 👪.
Stationed in West Berlin, Germany, and Thursday nights was Rock and Rock Nights at the Friendship Pub. When this song popped and we were trying to get to the dance floor, everything after he said Mony, Mony, everyone would shout. "GET LAID...GET F'D".❤❤❤❤
If you hold yourself back from reacting to how the music actually moves you, you miss the purpose of doing a genuine and natural reaction. Never hold back!! I was excited right alongside the both of you. The music was hyped and seeing how it got you both hyped just made it that much more enjoyable to watch. Just let the music move you however it moves you!!! Best reaction to this song 👍🏽💖😆
But you've got to keep your face on camera. It you get up from the chair you may not.
RSR Family his "Dancing With Myself", "Cradle Of Love" and "Flesh For Fantasy" are next for you!!!
Steve Stevens on the guitar...One of the most amazing guitarrists ever!! ...Very underrated!! This is a 60's song that Billy just incredibly remade.
Billy Idol is the BOMB and always has been. "See? Billy Idol gets it!" Adam Sandler in Wedding Singer. He has a cameo in that movie and it was the perfect encapsulation of the 1980's.
When the woman asks what the Mile High Club is, the leer he gives her is absolutely perfect.
Steve Stevens was one of the more well known guitarists. Considered to be really good. Played guitar on a Michael Jackson rock hit like Eddie Van Halen did in Beat It on a previous MJ album. Need to do Dancing with Myself next. In the breaks in the verse of Mony Mony everybody would yell ‘get laid get f#@ked’ when this would play in the clubs in ‘87. You guys have to get tickets for Journey and Billy in concert. On sale now I think. In late spring at the zoo I think.
Yup!! The chant was "Hey - Hey what - Get Laid Get Phucked". Ah, those were the days!!
And people still yell that when it's played
Love me some Billy with the mean lip!!! Originally a Tommy James and the shondells song I believe but who can’t resist a billy rendition!!
Mean lip!
@@RobSquadReactions hey Rob checkout Billy's later songs can't break me down and save me now.
@@RobSquadReactions Mean lip and fist pump!! Billy will definitely get you hype!!
I recommend "Dancing with Myself" by Idol next. Originally written with his first band Generation X, it went on to be his first solo hit and is a stone-cold classic.
Saw him at a festival in 2015, still got it. More talent in his little finger than most modern artists will ever have.
Billy Idol is a beast! Yes, this was all over the radio in the 80's. I had so much fun dancing to his music. Glad you both got back to his songs. Happy New Year.
“Mony Mony” was definitely a radio hit, but it was also like, standard repertoire for high school pep bands to play in the stands during football games. Since it’s been over 20 years since I was in marching band, I have no idea what pep music they’re playing now but this was definitely one that everyoneee played to get the crowd hyped at games. Idk if that’s where the “Yeah” part is familiar to Amber, but that could be it.
Billy Idol brought hard punk rock into the 80s. 😎

"Mony Mony" was credited to Tommy James, Bo Gentry, Ritchie Cordell and Bobby Bloom.[1] The song's title was inspired by Tommy James' view of the "M.O.N.Y." sign atop the Mutual of New York Building on the New York City skyline from his Manhattan apartment.[1] As James said in a 1995 interview in Hitch magazine:
True story: I had the track done before I had a title. I wanted something catchy like "Sloopy" or "Bony Maroney," but everything sounded so stupid. So Ritchie Cordell and I were writing it in New York City, and we were about to throw in the towel when I went out onto the terrace, looked up and saw the Mutual of New York building (which has its initials illuminated in red at its top). I said, "That's gotta be it! Ritchie, come here, you've gotta see this!" It's almost as if God Himself had said, "Here's the title." I've always thought that if I had looked the other way, it might have been called "Hotel Taft".[4]
"Mony Mony" was the only song by the group to reach the top 20 in the United Kingdom; it reached No. 1 in the UK,[1] No. 3 on the Hot 100 and No. 1 on WLS, two years to the day after the similarly sounding title "Monday, Monday" reached No. 1 there. A music video was made featuring the band performing the song amidst psychedelic backgrounds. A decade and a half later, it would receive some play on MTV.[4]
I have so many things in my head from music (because I had a wonderful mom). So many stories and tid bits. And without going too far into my age lol I was able to see Tommy James at The Love and Feelings concert in Houston TX twice. I was very young and there were multiple groups but they were my favorite and started my love for live music. But I didn't even know some of this ... I love it!
Thanks.for the back story
He’s absolutely beautiful isn’t he?
I loved Billy Idol when he was my British brother. Now I love Billy Idol as my American brother. He attained his U.S. citizenship a few years ago. Just a bad man.
He was in the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie, The Wedding Singer as himself. Billy Idol is such a legend.
