Dion started out with the Belmonts doing street corner doo-wop. Check out "Teenager In Love" from 1959. Then he went solo and "The Wanderer" came soon thereafter. A year or two later he came out with ""Ruby Baby" starting to show more of his bluesy side. Check out either Dion's version of "Ruby Baby" or the fantastic harmonies on the version released by Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan) in the early 80s.
I don't know WHY - but, this song always makes me want to do a FAST VERSION of the STROLL! ...Speaking of which - The Diamonds came out with that song in about 1958 - The Stroll....FUN DANCE...so easy and laid back!! HUGS!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I've heard Dion himself say a lot of people miss the point of this song: It's about a life that's "going nowhere". It's not a celebration of the lifestyle.
Ya know, Dion was also featured on a song called "When the Radio is On" by Paul Shaffer, the guy who was the band leader for David Letterman back in the day. And do you know who else was on that song? Will Smith! I'm not making this up!
This was always a fun song by Dion so I am pleased you had a chance to hear it! From the same era you should react to "Duke Of Earl" by Gene Chandler. Not only is it a great song but it was referenced in Billy Joel's song "Keeping The Faith" which you just reacted to!
Dion was the sole survivor the day the music died. He gave up his seat, on the small private plane that Buddy Holly rented, to Ritchie Valens, because Valens was away from home for the first time, not used to Minnesota winters (he was from LA.) and sick as a dog with fever. The plane tragically went down and Holly, Valens and the Big Bopper (plus the pilot) left this world. Dion soldiered on with his career, with many highs and lows, up to the present day. VERY talented guy, worth taking the time to get to know him. He released a new album over the last 2 years, with guests like Joe Bonamassa and other luminaries. He still plays and sings like he's 20! One of a kind, sorely underrated.
Wow, good info my friend. I didn't know Dion was in that group that didn't make it or made it by chance. That a heavy load to carry around I would think.
That was not Dion on that tour that gave up his seat on the ill-fated flight that crashed killing Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valenzuela. That was Waylon Jennings who gave up his seat on the plane. Buddy was Waylon's mentor, and Waylon played in his band. It was Waylon who gave up his seat. And, of course, Waylon went on to become a country music superstar.
Dion is still making records. He released an album in 2020/2021 where he collaborates with a bunch of great artists. My favorite on the album is "Dancing Girl" with Mark Knopfler playing guitar. He's in his 80's and can still sing.
My first concert was Dion at Pleasure Island in Massachusetts in 1962. Among others he did this song, Runaround Sue and his earliest hit "Teenager in Love". Many years later, when I came home from the Navy, I was stunned when I walked into a popular local breakfast stop and saw Dion at a table having breakfast with my father! Somehow they had become friends during my time in the Navy. I was thrilled to meet one of musical heroes. Every time Dion played in the Boston area, he would call my father to meet him for breakfast at that same place.
Dion & his group The Belmonts started out in the late 50's-60's. They had some hits including "I Wonder Why", "No One Knows", "A Teenager In Love" & "Where Or When". Dion went solo & had some big hits such as "Ruby Baby", "Lonely Teenager", "Donna The Prima Donna" ,"Drip Drop", "Lovers Who Wander", "Little Diane" & "Abraham, Martin & John".
My brother had a 1957 Ford that had "The Wanderer" painted on it. This song got revived when Mel Gibson sang it in "Chicken Run." That was a great movie and surprisingly, Mel didn't wear any makeup when he made the movie. Believe me, he sure looked different without makeup. I would love to see your reaction to it.

I'm 16 and have loved dion since I were 13 he's amazing
This was always a fun song by Dion so I am pleased you had a chance to hear it! From the same era you should react to "Duke Of Earl" by Gene Chandler. Not only is it a great song but it was referenced in Billy Joel's song "Keeping The Faith" which you just reacted to!
They actually did it 🙂
@@ruthparker9756 Awesome, thank you!!
Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder was a great song too! He mentions several musicians! I’m guessing he had influence from them as a kid! Not too sure
Darn good band and fabulous back-up singers.
Please review his song Abraham, Martin and John. Great 60's song.
Brain Hyland " Sealed with a kiss" 1962 school is out for the summer and I won't see you until school starts again!!
@stevewhitaker1474 Okay. I'm just quoting Dion from a documentary on the topic.
I like your shirts!
This is such a classic song, good pick!
I just bought his latest album!.It's great and he's still going at 80!! His voice is just as good!
Dion is still making records. He released an album in 2020/2021 where he collaborates with a bunch of great artists. My favorite on the album is "Dancing Girl" with Mark Knopfler playing guitar. He's in his 80's and can still sing.
Amber's face with the sax solo. Jay's face with the lyric "Rosie on my chest". PRICELESS!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome vid! My favorite by Dion along with Abraham, Martin and John. This one is just catchy!
Love Amber's facial reactions, especially when she rolls her eyes!😄👌🏼
@louisb. Judging from her smile, laugh and body language, I think this might be her favorite out of all the songs she's reacted to. 😊
@@oldiesgeek454 I can see that!👍🏻😉
@@louisb5563 I like your TV Test Pattern profile pic by the way... I grew up with up with those when TV stopped broadcasting at midnight.

I love this song...the "growl" in his voice...the "dirty" sax sound...its so much fun!
Dion is great. "Lovers Who Wander" is a great song by him too.
Love your reaction to the lyrics. You two are great to watch.
Dion's song "Abraham, Martin and John" is also great. Not like this, but quieter and more thoughtful.
I absolutely love this song. The movie was awesome too.
Dion and the Belmonts. An original 50s Doowop group. Dion became a Christian in the 80s and I played his records on the radio.
This is a classic! It reminds me of "Calendar Girls" by Neil Sedaka (a 60's and 70's icon J and A haven't discovered yet)
I recently found out he was the first to record "One Way Ticket (To The Blues)", a song I know from the British disco band Eruption.
@@helindove2237 - He wrote "Love Will Keep Us Together" by Captain and Tennille and many other hits for other singers.
@@Robsan40 👍 Neil Sedaka is very talented. He attended the same school as another great talent, Carole King.
I love Dion. I Wonder Why is another great one.
@wally. Yes! If you've never seen the movie "A Bronx Tale", you might want to check it out. The movie opens with the song I Wonder Why, and it is so fun! 😊
