There's NO WAY you'll recover that Chevy Truck!!!

- So we got a call for a Chevy Silverado that was stuck on the top of Boulder Mountain.
The owner had slid off the road back in the fall of 2019
The truck came to rest in a very precarious position.
He was able to hike out to Highway 12.
He had one towing company go and look and four others that just refused.
The forest service was threatening to fine him if he didn't get it removed.
We were unfamiliar with the area and everybody we talked to made it sound like there's no way we would get it out, because of that we were a little apprehensive going in.
It was about 60 miles of rough dirt road, which was doable in a stock pick up.
About a block from the truck we got to the top of the mountain with some of the most amazing views on planet Earth.
This truck was down an extremely Steep and off-camber Trail and then off the side at about 45 degree angle.
Paul and Matt were able to get it rigged up and winched out of there.
It actually went rather easy.
Surprisingly the truck started and we were able to drive it out.

At this point I don't think Ed breathes air, just smoke :)
You know them old timers are as tough as nails.
Ed has fun to driving over that rock😄😄😄
Ed is pretty tough.
Ahhahaha i'm dead lol
Hey Matt, I was the lead hiker with the goofy orange bandana in that backpacking group! Great to see the video up, we have been waiting for weeks. We headed all the way down that jeep road to highway 12, there was no way any jeep or vehicle could make it down that road... it just got crazier and crazier. Keep up the cool videos, my buddy told you we would look you up! hah
Cool, was looking for your comment, your famous now lol!

Cool pass of information for future 👍 off roader's not to make a big mistake unless they are rockcrawlers sigh should be posted before the point of no return or turnaround
@@milotorres6894 We couldnt belive there wasent warning sign at the top before you decend. About a mile down the "road" had dozens of downed trees and crazy bolder climbs, not sure with a whole day, a chain saw and a experienced off roader could do the route.
This video is the best advertisement for Matt's Off Road Recovery. 2 companies did not dare to do this recovery. Matt drives there with a few people, takes a quiet look at the situation and pulls the Silverado out of there. I am very amazed at the calm and ease with which Matt approaches each of his jobs.
It was 4 other companies that refused.
@@nancylarson7494 I thought they tried and failed, not just refused. But I could be wrong. Either way, Matt's victory was EPIC!!!!!
This is just crazy seeing Paul and his son when he was still getting his channel up a running, no merch, and not even branding. Even Matt wasn't branded, but merely promoting his business. Just look at how far they have come! Was Paul's son, Landon filming for them? I saw him holding a microphone. Also, seeing this again, I noticed the shell of the Morrvair on the chassis in the background of a yard. Does Fab Rats have their own video of this?
@@Frankie2012channel You're wrong. One went and decided they weren't even going to touch it, and the other three flat out refused.
That’s not too crazy. It’s not that the companies wouldn’t be able to get it out, it’s just that it’s not worth it. If it costs a company 8 hours to recover a truck (3 hours drive time one way, 6 total, and 2 hours to recover, I’m being generous), with a crew of 8 people at $30 an hour, that’s almost $2k in labor costs alone; add in overtime if the job takes longer than expected, easily $3k in labor. Add in fuel, equipment and over head and you’re looking at $4k in cost to recover a truck worth maybe $4k. Plus, if something happens and that truck, or worse, one of your trucks goes off the mountain, you’re insurance isn’t going to be happy. And god forbid something happens to one of the crew members. It’s risk vs. reward, those companies have to make money and try to keep people safe.
I love how much Matt cares for Ed and looks out for him. You can tell the character of a man when he treats people with that kind of care and respect.
Without Ed, nobody would know the temperature, or the weather; Ed is a necessity.
The real reason Matt lifted his Jeep: so he can perform most trail repairs without a jack.
No cap😂
That's why Jeeps are lifted anyway. lol
I thought it was so he didn’t have to get his ramps out while loading and unloading from the trailer.
That's most Jeeps, lol
To be honest, lifting the Jeep DOES make working under it a lot easier. Working on a stock TJ compared to my YJ is a pain. LOL
I believe a set of walkie-talkies would be a good investmest.

I've done heavy duty recoveries for many years and I noticed 3 major things that stood out. 1, you assessed the situation, came up with a plan reassessed, and modified your plan, listening to everyone's input. Awesome!
2, your rigging was done superbly. You were positioned to allow for as much movement as possible limiting re-rigging. Awesome job.
3, Most important, was safety. You kept everyone out of harm's way while continually assessing the situation as it progressed.
That was a top notch recovery.
I only wish they wouldn't winch with chain and paid a little more heed to the steel rope under full load with no dampeners applied. Obviously, the dude that backed that XJ in has balls big enough to protect him from a snapped cable, but everyone else was in danger.
Couldn't agree more!! Superb teamwork, making sure everyone was safe including keeping the camera crew away from the winch cables in case they snapped, first rate work from everyone. No snarky comments either about the people who got into trouble in the first place. Great recovery, great channel. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for explaining. As someone who doesn't know much about this other than how amazing and professional it came across I appreciate your response!
So not quite the same but just as dangerous to removal people. We had a boulder take out a set of wooden 'H' poles fore 250 KVA power lines, half way up one of the cliffs you see to the north of Parachute CO. No getting anything up there motorized until after poles and lines were removed. Our powerline people we contracted came in with a helicopter and the safety guy asked 'what's your plan?' Big Mike said, 'We go up assess, discuss plan and rehash all the what if's. If there are questions that can't be answered we start a new plan. Then we vote on the plan and if all 7 of us don't agree we start a new plan. If there are problems or unexpected results during the plan we start over from where we are at.' All went well with a few rehashes as they went. Spectacular to watch from the setting they were in and even more so from their strategy. Matt's crew did a solid job. I am sure they will take suggestions into consideration on future ones. Keep er safe, everyone should always go home in one piece!
Yes, safety. Everyone in the towing business should live by the slogan "Everyone's safety begins with me."

Collie breeds are built for that kind of stuff. I climed Mount Katahdin in Maine with my rough collie and he had more fun there than I think he's ever had out in a field or on a trail. @@victormcpeck3824 I've had the exact same thing happen to me. (see my reply elsewhere). Except I was on a get the heck away from the world trip during a bad divorce. Out by myself, and trail gave way under me (my 2 front tires and the trailer hitch is all that kept me up!), and no place to turn around (MUCH thinner than that road), and had to creep past a big rock in the road, hugging a cliffside. There was no going backwards around that without going over. I was stuck... Recovery guy said a hummer made it back there too (WHAAAAT???), and broke an axle trying to get turned around and get out. Camera angle only does so much.. you know it's a ruff spot when hikers are having a hard time passing you on the trail.. you guys make this stuff look too easy...
Can't believe those hikers just kept going...that was the best show in town...odd they had not an ounce of curiosity.
I cant imagine how much this recovery cost.
@@MikeCris they were probably on a time limit called the sun. some people rather not be out when the sun goes down in the middle of nowhere if they don't have to be
@@sarbarca2 especially when walking on loose rocks next to steep cliff like that. It is a no-no to do in the dark.
@@MikeCris I agree.. unless they where pressed for time trying to make it back to a specific location before dark ...I would have first asked if I could help in anyway and if not I would have stood back and watched for sure.. when your on a good hike.. most people will use anything as an excuse to stop get some rest and take in scenery..lol
Somebody may have already brought this up in the comments that I missed but what I love about Matt and his crew is I have Never heard anyone throw out cuss words. (Not on camera anyway 😂) They are calm cool and collected. Even the times I could tell by Matt’s expression that whoops i think I got the movair stuck lol. That alone and how professional and fun they are to watch. Keep up the great videos and I’m a fan. I want one of them shirts 😂😂 but I don’t wanna run the tundra off the road to get one !!!
Matt's off-road recovery when others can't we can!🙏💪☝
It's more like won't try. One guy at least looked before saying he couldn't.
Wouldn't be a Chevy without a daytime running light out. 😆
They always have one of them out!!
They said it couldn't be done, and Matt said, I'll take that bet and you're gonna regret cause my team,Ed, and I are the best at this you've ever seen...... :)
Agreed big time.
Fire on the mountain run boy run!
That’s darn right MATTS OFF ROAD RECOVERY always wins every call because no other tow service would ever ever take on a call like this. Why because Matt is the one with years of experience in the back country where other tow drivers don’t have 0% to Little
RIP Charlie Daniels.
I would never bet against Matt's off-road recovery. Great teamwork! Ed and lady are great overseers! Is retired heavy duty truck mechanic I've written many road service bills. I would have loved to have written this one. Vehicles x mileage + fuel x man hours probably would have exceeded the value of the vehicle. Oh well! If you want to play you got to pay! Nobody works for free!
OMG! I have been on 6 or 7 Jeep Safari's but nothing compared to what you have done all in a days work. I came upon your channel by accident and I have watched 4 or 5 events of yours. This one was intense!!! I love to see what men and machine can do with knowledge, brawn and skill. Unbelieveable!
Those mosquitoes must be bad! They sound like drones!
A good leader listens to his team. A great leader credits his team...
Amen
This looked like incredibly hard work but darned if it didn't look like it was a lot of fun too. I subscribed because even though I am an old woman I really enjoyed seeing this and I am eager to see what other recoveries you make. GOOD JOB!
DANIEL McPeck uu
Another great recovery by Matt and his team .
These types of videos aren't my typical genre. But I'm a fan of extreme skill and you guys didn't disappoint. But I gotta say, that watching the dog just hanging out with the peeps doing what a good dog does was every bit as enjoyable to me as watching the recovery.
Most people don't appreciate how sick the axle and suspension setup are on this thing, and it's all home brew
That was great. Never thought i would enjoy something as simple as a tow job but this is great. The crew is great. Thanks for taking me along. Being disable going to the mountains is not happening but weekly I go somewhere with Matt and the gang.
And you do not need to get dirty!
❤️
Thank the youtube algorithm for recommending your channel, such a wholesome bunch of people it's nice seeing you guys and gals at work
WOW WEE!!! YOU MEN ARE AMAZING!! Everyone needs to see this video!! I couldn’t believe how steep that cliff was.. I was holding my breath for sure!! But, y’all made it happen!! Awesome team work!! No one should ever doubt your abilities!!!👏🏼💥💪🏻🎉🎶🙏🏼🙌🏽😎👍🏽God bless!!
I can’t believe youtube recommended this... this channel actually has great content! I could definitely see this being a show on Discovery Channel
Definetly would be a great reality TV show. The real deal
They’d way over dramatize it and ruin it, I like it here better.
David Reynolds No kidding. Everyone would be screaming and swearing at each other and the vehicle being recovered would be about to slide into an abyss before every commercial break 😂
One heck of a recovery. But then, the other companies didn't have Ed on board.
He’s their good luck totem. Gotta have one.
Haha! God bless Ed :-)
Enjoying the HECK out of your videos! As a Jeeper and Off-Road Exploration enthusiast for some 50 years now I have a Sencere appreciation for what you-all do. We used to get "called out" by one of our Jeeping buddies once in a while when they got their Jeeps stuck in what seemed like an impossible situation. Fortunately, we were always able to complete a successful "recovery"! Thanks again. Keep up the good work!
Wow! Love these scary, scary rescues. I don’t think I could even walk on that road
