That girl is rad. Heading up that hill alone, knowing when to stop and call for help, helping drag the back end over, AND sharing homemade cookies? We all need friends like that.
she had her friend with her?? didnt she
Knowing when to stop? Don’t think she had a choice but to stop once her axle locked up.
Yeah, I'm kinda in love too, lol
She needs more friends is what it Is
@@isaiahmiracle7487 Yep never wheel alone
I'm gonna rent a Hyundai Santa Fe and take it half way up to the transmitter. Look forward to my call, Matt.
Expensive way to get a T shirt 👕 but hey, that's just me.
do it.
Just get the rental insurance. Good to go
Don't forget your cookies
@@robc8593 To toss?
First time I’ve seen Matt so concerned, his sense of urgency and direct orders reminds me of a Sgt Major I had. Beautifully executed, I love how Matt feels more at ease as soon as Rudy gets there.
Shout out to the girl for getting her hands dirty and helping to drag the beck end over! Teamwork makes the dreamwork! Love that she gave them homemade cookies too 😂
The look of concern on Matt's face throughout this video is quite telling. He knows the serious this is. Kudos man, you know when it time to up the game. On a lighter note...another physics lesson from Matt and Rudy. Vectors, gravity, trigonometry, coefficient of dynamic friction (aka, sliding (or not) down the hill with wheels locked. You know your entire business is mastering the physics. Master the physics=getting them out!
Every time he goes up there he looks like he's seen a ghost.
This is one stark example where it is vitally important to observe the non-existent posted speed limit of .5 mph. Nature's designated limit won't end well. If this comes to be a routine endeavor recovery it might pay to install an anchor point at the top.
I had the same face as Matt throughout the whole recovery! Now I'm anxious for no good reason so I'm going to snack on something unhealthy to calm down lol.
When Matt says it's steep...lol
What goes up must come down, but not always in one piece.
By far the best channel ive ever found. No swearing, no falling out, no shouting, no ego, just great family and friends getting the job done and all working well together and clearly enjoying each others company, New subscriber from the UK. Makes me want to buy another Jeep, had a 4.0 Cherokee and a Willys
You’re gonna like it here
And for everyone into bikes (motorcycles) check out the Doghouse too!!!
Graig really does make some wonderfull bikes (and it is a lovely channel to watch)
👍👍👍
@Lex Riordan i don't know exactly what you mean (english is not my first language)
I was referring to The Doghouse, who commented above, he has a lovely channel for the bike enthousiasts.
Matt, not sure if you will see this but this is my old TJ that I built up a few years ago. To provide some context why this axle seized up, I threw in a lunchbox locker and some other suspension upgrades to make it more trail worthy, this lunchbox locker had always given me trouble. My guess is that one of the pins broke inside of it and caused issues with the locker. I noticed the axle freed up while going down the hill, from my experience in this TJ, the spartan locker would not disengage unless the you pulled the transmission into reverse (I believe this is due to the transfer case getting stuck in 4WD). Anyways, its good to see the ole' TJ getting some use.
This was truly one of the sketchiest recoveries we've seen. Really nerve-racking. Can't even imagine being you and doing this. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. We made it through the pandemic by watching your recovery videos. My husband was lucky enough to see you in Logan Utah. He was thrilled to look over the vehicles and visit. Sadly he died completely unexpectedly in August. He spoke often of how very friendly and kind you were when he visited in Logan and I thank you for that. You are wonderful people. Hold tight to one another. I only had 31 years with my sweetheart wasn't ready to go on alone. Your videos are helping me get through some very difficult days. Thank you again for sharing
I'm sorry for your loss Cindy. Praying for you and your family.
I am very sorry for you. I lost my wife many years ago, so I have an idea of your pain.
So sorry for your loss, thanks for sharing your story.
I’m really sorry to hear your husband died that’s so sad , from the land down under Australia
Been where you are. God bless.
Best safety briefing I have ever heard. Matt: "Everyone just needs to be out of the way." Nuff said.
if you want safety then stay home on the couch
I'm grateful, but I've never been "Here, take my cookies" grateful.
That's love right there...
That was quite a batch of cookies - at least two dozen or more.
Yeah, the cookies take it to a whole 'nother level. Maybe she was hitting on Rudy?
@@jimcollins8097 yeah, Rudy was chatting her up a bit there. 😉
I wonder if Rudy got her phone number ? Where was wingman Cullen ? He should have asked her, can I have your cell number for my brother ?
Maybe what was in those cookies got her up there in the first place
@@dalegereaux1863 Could be. However, Rudy has (or had) a drop dead gorgeous girl friend named Brendy or Bren (nickname for Brenda?) "Seldom Seen Bren" was infrequently seen swinging a camera in past episodes. Perhaps Bren is on her LDS Mission of late?
At the end of the day the specific details are really none of my business. I only bring this up to suggest Rudy is the boss.
Rock on Rudy and MORR!
Matt's Off Road Recovery, You are not going to be believe this, but I know that black TJ. I have ridden many of trails in her. We used to call her Jade. Glad you got her and her driver home safe.
That Morvair is an absolute beast! Not only climbing the trail that has eaten so many rigs, but leaving the trail to go around them, and then pulling them out. Just awesome! and a little driver skill doesn't hurt matters either :)
And once again, Matt and his herd of Billy Goats made a successful recovery on Suicide Hill!

Props to the owner of the Jeep for getting in there and helping.
I'm going to guess she's a horse or cattle woman, used to tossing hay bales. She tossed those rocks like her body was accustomed to that kind of work.
@@googgnik judging by those quads, I'm gonna say horses. Props to her for getting all the way up there, she knows her wheeling.
@@samgraham4168 but not her limits and that is serious
FYI, the girl helping move the back of the jeep and rocks is not the customer/owner of the jeep.
I was quite impressed with her attitude and capability. She called it quits once she realized she was in over her head, but the Jeep called it quits before she could get out of there.
"why do I feel like Rudy might find the love of his life on a recovery....?"
If he does, his current lady is going to be very upset. It's probably annoying enough that half of the channel's viewers think that Rudy and Lizzy are an item.
You know, some days they're just pulling folks out, and other days they're actually saving lives. I don't think I've ever "seen" Matt with such a strong sense of urgency before!
I felt better as soon as Rudy showed up I know Matt did.
On a job like this the difference between #2 and #3 makes a huge difference.
Exactly.
Rudy has been trained by the best. Those 2 guys are awesome together
When people keep falling over just trying to stand or walk you know it is steep...you have titanium balls Matt. Especially whe you passed that jeep. Jeeez...
Agree 1110 percent
When I visited Toquerville Falls I kept going just to see that hill. I walked up it and there is no way that I would drive up that hill. But the scenery from there is magnificent!
The lady made up for her lack of any in her own right for even attempting though best not to be alone doing it. It might be wise to wear at least a bicycle helmet and some neck padding in the event the wheels don't take you off the trail.

I read that in Paul’s voice.

He probably found it at Goodwill.
@@maxironpaw That’s brutal!

Every recovery we've seen on this hillside has been a nail-biting experience
Rudy seems very professional and at times fearless. Good guy to have around in a pinch.
He’s Matt’s son😂
@@thefatbear98 what's your point?
Roodee! He looks good in the Jeep!
One subtle but super important thing I've always appreciated is how Matt always asks Rudy what he would do instead of just calling the shots.
The beauty of the environment really makes me want to visit Utah, the fact that this road just exists and doesn't have 10 gates and warning signs makes me think I'd actually love it there.
Deadass tho
That is how you see what your 2nd in command is thinking, and weigh his thoughts against yours. That is a part of how a leader develops his people so they can take his place some day, seeing his thought process and watching him grow.
One of my favorite lines is if this works I'm taking credit for it and if it doesn't I'm blaming you...lol
I would like to run up that road, but I wouldn't take a vehicle.
Great point about Matt.
Good leaders lead, Great leaders counsel.
I have officially been following you for a year. This is the first video that I watched when I started following you guys. Some of the best content on UA-cam
Wow. That's the first time I've ever seen Matt be short with his team. You know it's getting real when Matt is on edge.
Your name should be "Matt's EXTREME Off-Road Recovery." Good job. You're good people.

@@MegaDysart LOL
Love the channel!
Here is a suggestion that worked for me when I was in a similar situation...
I was backing down a sand hill that I couldn't make it up. I lost my ability to steer in the soft sand, and the truck was getting more and more sideways and was about to roll. So I took it out of 4x4, put it in 1st gear (not reverse so it wouldn't roll backwards) and intentionally spun the back tires. As soon as the tires began to spin, gravity pulled the back of the vehicle straight because of the loss of traction in the rear. There was only 2 of us, and we wouldn't have been able to move the back of the truck by hand.
Matt & Rudy shine, Lizzy & rest of the crew are incredible, great job everyone!
Love it when the person getting rescued lends a helping hand!! Instead of just standing there lol
Wow, that was skillful teamwork. The MORRVAIR never ceases to amaze. The front-axle dig-in was cool!
I agree, I even said out loud, to no one, "oh that's so cool!" When he did that.
He dig in twice, once going up once going down.
Earth anchor! Gotta love a twin stick.
Indeed sir. Indeed. It was literally marvelous watching the morrvair go around that Jeep.
How can the front wheels dig in without the rears spinning? Parking brake?
I've never seen Matt look so worried and stressed on a rescue, even made me nervous
Rudy and Matt can bring peace in the worst situation. Great work of two great souls working as one 😉
That girl was awesome. She had no fear attempting that hill. Not her fault the Jeep gave up.
When Lizzy jumped in she was as jolly as always, utill the gravity of situation dawned on her too. You can clearly tell that between the cuts. No surprise, when there is urgence in Matt’s voice even, than you should be properly scared.
When we jump into the driver's seat we can feel what is really going on. That isn't always fun.
Howdy howdy let's get rowdy...
The gravity of the situation dawned on me when that big rock went bouncing down the road... That is crazy steep
She'd been on that hill twice before, she was well aware of the gravity of the situation (nice pun!) before she hopped in the morvair.
Matt and his team have crossed over from UA-cam to reality TV. This is such a great show. There is great leadership on display here.
The drama is real. No need to bring up some time restriction or anything to try to add drama.
Don’t put Matt’s off road in the “reality tv” dumpster fire!
@@samwest9444 certainly not! What I was trying to say was that he is making (dare I say living) a really well produced, interesting show with some really real, likeable people. I love it.
I am not scared of heights - but the angle on that hill just about does me in! I'm getting nervous just watching the video!! Well done to you all!!!
This was such a scary rescue. Everyone was on edge. See how fast Matt wanted to anchor and stabilize that jeep that shows just how terrible of a situation this was. Great job getting everything done without any harm just awesome.
Matt is usually so laid back when you hear that urgency in his voice you know its real
Matt: does it have lockers?
Owner: oh it has lockers. Everything is locked even the driveshaft.
Matt: what!?!
HHAHAHA
Half the team people call locking hubs lockers. Do you have lockers? Yeah 2 of em up front lol
Matt is a excellent team leader. His primary concern for everyone at that scene was the safety of his team and the customer. You could see the weight of that on his face when he was evaluating the task at hand... While towing is his profession I don't think it would break his heart if that particular trail wasn't there. This crew works well together, and he is lucky to have them...and they are lucky to have him. In my profession I was around and worked with tow companies on a fairly regular basis, and frequently in precarious situations. You can tell the pros from "the not so pro", believe me.
I love it when Matt asks for input from Rudy. He is weighing Rudy's plan against his own, evaluating it (and him) and watching Rudy grow as a leader. That is how a leader develops the talent that will follow him someday. They work together to find the best plan, and Matt implements it, knowing Rudy is growing into a skilled pro in his own right.
The contrast seeing the horizon as yall backed that jeep down helped to put the incline in perspective.
Great work getting this done without too much trouble.
Root beer for everyone! Put it on my tab!
Dang that woman had Beast Mode turned on !! She should be part of the team because she can clearly Wheel with the best of em. And she jumped right in to help, instead of having the mindset of "I'm paying you to do all this". Lizzy never ceases to amaze me either, I mean how could you not love Lizzie. Not only is Beautiful, She just does whatever is needed without question. Great video, as always ! Mad respect for everyone on the recovery & the customer too.
Take another look at the girl that was helping and then at the end when they were talking to the owner of the Jeep, two different people. The one helping had a white hat and blue shirt, the owner had a ponytail and a black shirt. Only the owner was seen in the Jeep at the end, so it's fair to assume the other girl came along with Matt's crew.
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper You're right, good eye for detail. The owner had sandals, so even if they wanted to help, probably best NOT to.
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper you're exactly right. That raises more questions then lol. Not sure who the woman was helping slide the Jeep but she's a good helper & has dang Nice legs & ... yea 😎
It’s hard to say, I would be surprised if she went up there all by herself.
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper Yeh, it looked like she arrived with Rudy. The first time you see the woman with the white hat is when she walks up the slope behind Rudy.
The Morrvair is an incredible piece of equipment.

It's a very capable machine. It's nice that his T-case allows for independent axle control. Really sweet rig.
That thing crawls like Nothing!!!👊💪bad ass
It’s just digs and digs. Thing just says u will let me up this damn hill.
I have been driving for nearly 60 years, including trucks and buses, but that hill still scares the bejeebers out of me every time you show it. Fantastic job team.
Matt, your concern and care for others is admirable. Never been on the edge of my seat for a recovery like that before!
I can't imagine how awful that must have felt, stuck alone on the side of the steepest hill your vehicle can climb. Every time you shift your weight in your seat, you can feel the entire vehicle slip a little bit more. Leg muscles are burning from holding the brake, and the knowledge that letting up the pressure on the brake pedal, even a little, is a death sentence.
I bet Stephen King could make that into an entire nail-biting novel. Especially if her cell phone was dead or out of service.
Not a death sentence, you can just bail out.
@@aus71383 people often get run over by their own vehicles when they try bailing out. There's a reason experts often suggest wearing your seatbelt any bracing yourself if your vehicle starts to roll.
@@keelanbarrette529 That makes sense if it's moving, but if you're sitting on a hillside with your foot on the brake, you can think through your options.
Why not just put it in reverse or first and shut off the engine?
@@percyfaith11 cause gears can fail and not hold. Especially if they where all ready having issues like the drive shaft locking up. Who knows what else could be broken.
This one reminds me of places we went as teenagers. I don't know how we didn't die. This brought back some memories.

Yeah, Matt's explained before that he doesn't do that or even suggest to the customer to do it because it exposes him to liability if something happens later with the tire. It's almost always simpler for him to deal with the vehicle as he finds it.

This backup method seems easier than pulling them up to the top and turning around, great job!
the problem is the brake bias in cars are set up to the front, meaning that they dont stop very well when going backwards, as the front wheels will lock up. It is the same principle used in a J turn.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Matt look so concerned and or be that in a hurry arriving. We the viewer could tell on the GoPro it was steep which means it is steep AF in reality.

@@jaimeb4774 GTOgre's problem is that the city is renovating the area and the street and parking lot are blocked off. Shame to see him go away like that.......
I'm gonna cry ,, Matt's and team are awesome, makes me want to get out there and get super stuck so I can make a call to Matt's.
