I was there in 83, camped out on top of the methedrene manor. Found a way to camp in an old ford van three blocks from the beach on Westminster, became a career master mechanic, left Ca in 95.
This will get worse, I am just happy to have escaped alive.

what do you think we can do to help these people? I think addicts and mentally should be institutionalized and provided the care they require. They should be given stimulation like art, crafts, or other skills. Those able to work should be entered info FDR-style work programs cleaning trash and graffiti, repairing streets, installing curb ramps, weeding public land, etc.

The government need to enforce 5150 involuntarily for those mentally ill and drug users, forget about their constitutional rights to voluntary treatment. They have anosognosia and they don't realize that they need help specially the mentally ill.
Some if the rules to enforce a 5150 are stupid.

I was a homeless Veteran in Sacramento living in a broken down car ... 13 years later along with a beautiful wife and 2 year old son I was building a brand new home . I procured steady employment for the next 40 years and still live in the home that my wife and I built . I am an old man and retired now but my young 63 year old wife still works everyday . You're a great interviewer, you seem to have a neutral disposition and always listen to who you're speaking to, better than most journalists these days! To create the "victim mentality" through one's own perception of the weaknesses of others, hold that perception in their own heart and fling it hatefully onto another in their own fear and self-loathing is also contributing to the decline of America (Babylon).
He said nothing of "victimization" in his own perspective of his life. He owned everything he said as "his", no "victimization".
YOU are the one casting that label upon him from the depths of your own fearful hate-filled heart.
"Victim" is a minimizing and invalidating label created to shame and draw attention to weaknesses in others in order to derive (create) a desired prescribed opinion, view, understanding, and reactions of/to them for the intention of building up something else as more powerful and important than they.

Most people who are homeless do not like it. Many are so discouraged and depressed that homelessness is what they know, and anything else is suspect and unreliable. They are without hope. Poverty has become the most reliable constant in their lives. This is tragic. We should demonstrate more compassion towards these people and not judgemental.

I think a lot of them can't keep a home. They might be hoarders, or unable to be organized enough, or don't know how to maintain an apartment, and pay bills, and keep records. Or even shop, cook and make simple meals. I know a lot of disabled people for many years. They need help with all of these things. Even a mild traumatic brain injury, or a concussion can put someone into this category.

    • @starlux7676

1# reason I think people are homeless. Don't work well with others. They always no a better way and extremely unreliable even if you paid them before hand a taste and offer a big payoff with the job is done. They will take the little money and run. 100% reason homeless not drugs. Homeless cause joining forces with others is the only way to maintain a stable life. You can only achieve sustainability by compromising with others in some way. Not everyone can start out as the boss. But I always said that the reason most people that are homeless cant keep a job because they are going to try to tell there boss how to do their job. Addiction is only a small part of the problem cause if anything drugs are expensive to maintain. The real reason people never get out of a sticky situation like ending up homeless is because they can't draw the line somewhere and realize in order to better their living situation it is going to take some big sacrifices. That is maybe having to be told what to do and how to do it and when and where. How to, when to, and where to. Are orders that are just to strict, to foreign from their own twisted ideas, and no matter what the reward for following someone else's plan is. They are going to deviate. Not comfortable. What you see is what you get. That place where this video was made is their comfort zone. You want people to change. You got to know people first. You got to get in their heads and know how they operate. What these people need is a mentor who knows what is holding them back and call them out on their bullshit at the heart of it. While leading in a way that makes them still feel they are in control a little. It has to be a give and take both ways. But most bosses are not going to give a fucking thing but a paycheck. So nothing is going to change. Quick to point the the finger he's this he's that. All these stupid comments on hear. Anyone tried offering someone else a job or should the guy "just get a job" that's the problem. "He should work" Well whenever you got an opening and you offered that position to someone on the streets and they turned it down flat. Then you can point your finger at that person and that person only and say. Get a job. Hes lazy. I offered him a job and he turned me down flat. I told him about a job offered my phone, transportation, and some much needed guidance but the mother fucker tried to dictate to me how to run my business and wouldn't lift a finger to better himself and achieve something new. Finding a so7rce of income is only half the battle. Finding 3 or 4 people with the same income level or better is the other half. Let's face it. The cost of living is extreme. Without a background, a skill set, someone willing to give. Give someone a break. Willing to be open to working with some extremely difficult to work with. Someone able to Compromise ,work with someone and not against someone. Its a fairytale situation I am describing. Some people just don't work well with others. Some do. The ones living indoors probably have to answer to someone at least in there early years in there career. You want people to stop living at the beach or in your backyard. That will take a whole lot of working really hard with others. Compromises, sacrifices, willingness to lose a little control over situations and listening to some really bad ideas that are not their own and finding a way to overcome obstacles that will for surely be put in their path. If someone was willing to take a little and give a little of their own comfort levels up. Talk someone up instead of 660 comments talking down. Maybe one day some people on the streets just might surprise you and start working with you instead of against you and be your next door neighbor and not the guy you can point your fucking finger at and say that's the bad guy. That's the drug addict, that's the lazy, worthless fuck. Who shouldn't be their. Maybe you shouldn't be where ever you are leaving comments about homeless people on UA-cam. Wouldn't your time be more productive elsewhere and unless your part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. The guy on video reads your comments will be even less likely to want to work with anyone after 660 reasons why he's a people think he's just a homeless piece of shit. Real winners you all must feel and be because 660 comments support that idea and hes obviously the loser. You know everything and are just so tired of trying to look after the little people in life and bettering all mankind. Your a bunch of slaves to your own self centered egotistical ideas and the only way you can feel on top of the world is by pointing out who's on the bottom of it and how they are wrong and your right. They bad. Me good. When the truth is you both suck at life. The guy on the street just socks a little more at it and doesn't want to work with you just as much as the people on the street don't want to work some place with you. What a waste of time leaving comments in this video. Your all equal and you all could learn a lot from being not judge mental and more willing to sacrifice and give instead of just take or give orders.

You gotta understand that when you’re homeless the doors to regular society have been shut on you, but you still want to be free just like people in regular society want to be free. Nobody wants to be in a homeless shelter, be real! And rain, especially SoCal, is entirely manageable. Also, you get used to the natural environment, and you actually really enjoy experiencing the weather, the light, the wet and the dry. You get a different perspective on how Native Americans lived and so on.

Actually when I moved from California to Washington state, I could tell that people around here and from like Montana have more this “on your own” feeling, it’s something about having so much nature around you. A guy’s wife died and then he suicided, and I know that happens in California too, but it’s just, here there is this bleakness with the cold and the long nights and giant territory.

If Odor enjoy out doors he should be able to live out side. I grew up without any doctors so I never was given any type of stuff other than my parents should of kept the sugar away from their children but no drugs and because living on farm land the food was grown on the farm my mother refuse to use stuff to keep the bugs away and stuff off I believe she pray to keep bugs off the garden grown foods but she would not use stuff she said it harmful to young children. Now ODOR just must except himself God love him no matter how other might think of him or how he think of himself which cause all the human race so many issues we all need to love ourselves so we can love and except others.
