Daughter lives in downtown LA high rise. I tell her I'm concerned all the time with the crazies on the street with her using the bus, walking etc. She always down plays and said it's not bad.
Wife went to visit, I didn't want to be in the shit hole so I didn't go.
Wife reported dirty buses and subways, dirty beaches with homeless camps, and they were chased and rubbed up against by crazies. Daughter tried to say " It's the first time that happened" SMH

Most homeless have hard drug and/or alcohol addictions. They get loaded and pass out with lit cigs. They’re too out of their heads and sedated to clean, so a small fire goes wild quickly with all that trash to burn. Homeless should not be allowed to live on any public/city property in makeshift encampments. It’s not safe for them, and they’re constantly putting others at risk. Continuing to allow it is not a kindness or protecting anyone’s civil rights. It’s enabling sick people to stay sick.

I have live in LA for 52 years and spent many weekends visiting Venice Beach. It has always been a place for counter-culture. If was common to see young people with their backpacks hanging out and the city was tolerant of them throwing a sleeping bag out at night on the beach. A handful of people lived in colorfully painted, broken down motor homes. It was fun to people watch all the characters in Venice. To see the local artists. It was a place to avoid at night. Over the past several years, it has become a beachfront Skid Row with all the associated problems of drugs, theft, and violence. I have talked to several clients that have seen stabbing in broad daylight. I haven't been back for several years. I'll keep watching and if it returns to the Old Venice Beach, I will be back. @Estela Lopez banning drugs won't do a damn thing, they are already federally "illegal." The violent people, the basket cases, and the general way of lving for these people in the street will still undoubtedly be there even without drugs. And in Oregon they decriminalized drug use or possession, or something like that !
The administration has always acted like they want drug use to end once and for all, yet drugs still get produced, imported, sold, etc. Or doctors keep over prescribing. Almost like it's a business for people who dont use the drugs get rich off of it. and drug use is through the roof as usual. Imagine that.
Not trying to be hateful or disrespectful. Ive experienced drug addiction and I'm not homeless. I work full time and go to school because i have ambitions and didnt wanna give up or be a lazy pan handler trashing some place.
But just in the big picture, drug use alone, or homelessness alone, are just such huge and seemingly unsolvable problems.
Anyway, Greedy assholes who overcharge for rent or sell drugs obviously arent going away.
      Sorry- rant over. Be well

Ask Jeff Bezos what his plan is to fix the homeless problem. He's so wealthy, he should have all the answers.
Oh wait, maybe he doesn't! Bill Gates promised to give away all of his vast sums of money in 2010, when his net worth was $50 billion. Today, he's worth about $124 billion. Hmmm, so much for THAT promise! "Philanthropist?" Hardly!
And what about that 2017 tax cut that was supposed to "create great jobs" and give "every worker a $4,000 raise?"
I hope you weren't holding your breath!!!!
The promised prosperity of the '17 tax cut should have greatly reduced the homelessness. We were supposed to be swimming in prosperity, remember?
Why won't you hold ANYONE responsible for the bullshit?
