The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square sing "How Firm a Foundation" a song of vigor, conviction, and demonstrated faith first published in 1787 and now arranged by Mack Wilberg.
Aired August 5, 2012 from the Music and the Spoken Word broadcast episode 4325.
This hymn keep me going during the grueling last three months of caring for my dying husband. The last verse, which is often not sung, is the most comforting of any hymn I've ever heard. I'm so glad they sing it here.
My feelings exactly!
I’m so sorry for your loss
"Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed, for I am thy God and will still give thee aid. I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand."
Metarra that part always gave me the chills!
🍃❤🍃
This scripture kept me alive
I love this part ❤️ I often cry when I hear this
Yep! That’s a mighty strong verse. The second one is as well.
1. How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in his excellent word!
What more can he say than to you he hath said,
Who unto the Savior, who unto the Savior,
Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?
2. In evry conditionin sickness, in health,
In povertys vale or abounding in wealth,
At home or abroad, on the land or the sea
As thy days may demand, as thy days may demand,
As thy days may demand, so thy succor shall be.
3. Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
Ill strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to
Stand,
Upheld by my righteous, upheld by my righteous,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
4. When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not thee oerflow,
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee, and sanctify to thee,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
5. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply.
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, thy dross to consume,
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.
6. Een down to old age, all my people shall prove
My sovreign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And then, when gray hair shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs shall they still, like lambs shall they
Still,
Like lambs shall they still in my bosom be borne.
7. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose
I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
Ill never, no never, Ill never, no never,
Ill never, no never, no never forsake!
always choke up on the third verse I believe when He says "Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed, for I am thy God and will still give thee aid." I hear his voice every single time, I love him.
Me too! I replayed that "For I am thy God and will still give thee aid" part at least 6 times and was crying the whole time! This is my 2nd favorite hymn. Love it!
We actually sang this song during church one Sunday, and during the part you said I had a very hard time singing because of how powerful that message is to me.
:)
The third verse is very sacred to me. The Spirit brought this verse to my remembrance during one of the darkest times of my life. I had actually read an account in the Ensign or New Era (can't remember which) of another Saint who had a similar experience, and therefore the Spirit brought this account, with the comforting third verse, to my remembrance. The Comforter "will bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." Does anyone know whicj scripture this is? I forget. I think it is in John chapter 14 or 15.
yes me too ,LOVE THE LORD
This song touched and comforted my Mother when my older brother was in the hospital not expected to live, "Fear NOT I am with thee oh be not dismayed for I am they God and will still give thee aid" During that part of the song Mom was told " You need not worry he will live to become a great leader.. Today he is a Temple President..
Truly this Wonderful has encouraged and comforted countless people in the midst of sickness complicated pro problems and depression.
😊 .beautiful ❤
Lovely ❤️❤️
Love this song!!
This is one of my favorite hymns. Now, my daughter sings along with me. 😊
This is what I sing silently when I am scared- it helps me remember that there is one thing nothing can defeat: the power of god, or the Priesthood.
As a LDS, I have never been able to get through this song without emotions, especially 3rd verse. Fear not I am with thee...
When my children were young sitting in the pews they would lean forward look down to see if their Mother was crying, and I always was. Love the songs they are my testimonies to the truth.
Me too😭😭😭
amen brother
My story is a little more of the world. Years ago, I was in grad school at SMU. 2 part time jobs and full time grad school exhausted me. One early morning, I had an oral exam in graduate cost accounting and I was worried. Crossing the field, where
the expanded B school now stands, I sang this to myself. Worldly use or not, I feel it helped me to stand before Dr. Grenolds and the class. Don't ask me about my grade though.
I will not, I cannot desert to his foes.... I'll never, no never, I'll never, no never, I'll never, no never, no never forsake! Aaaaaaaaaaameeeeen!
No one can sing this like THE CHOIR. My motto is an answer back to The Lord, "I'll never, no never, no never forsake!" Him
I'll never ... no never, I'll never ... no never, I'l never ... no never, no never forsake ....... we don't have these words in Italian and I just love them! I love the strenght how they are sung! May we all NEVER, NO NEVER FORSAKE!
Amen
That and verse 2 are why this is one of my favourite hymns. ❤
Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
I never thought I'd be listening to hymns but as I get ready to go on my mission I am finding myself more and more drawn to the Saviour and His praises and hymns and they bring me to tears, which is a new experience for me and something that has never happened before. I am so grateful for the true church of our loving God
I feel the same, and am glad to hear others are too. Good luck Bro.
Wonderful! The missionaries save peoples lives with all the saving ordinances. I’m preparing my life to go into the waters of baptism. All the things eternal, questions answered. Here is my testimony: I’m so grateful for Brother Joseph the Prophet whose perseverance overcame all the violence and destruction of enemies who sought to wipeout members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Praise to that mans obedience to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. I’m humbled and so very grateful to The Lord for bringing His Church once again to the earth, for calling Prophets and Apostles to guide us, for granting man and women access to the power of the Priesthood, for blessings given to those who passed without saving ordinances. As I prepare my life to enter the waters of baptism I contemplate with gratitude the tender mercies of the Lord, His unspeakable suffering in Gethsemane and then on the cross, the ultimate and remarkable gift of the resurrection. What more could a man want? These gifts made available to us from the Savior can’t be bought or changed with money. The only way to gain a testimony of The Restored and complete Gospel of Jesus Christ can only be received as a personal witness through prayerful study of the scriptures and asking God to provide the answers. There is one Savior, one Church, one Gospel, one Priesthood, one Prophet, Twelve Apostles, one Sacrifice all one sure path back to eternal life. Thank you Jesus Christ for Your miraculous and redeeming love, for through You Your will is done, Amen.
My young women's group used to sing this song before our lesson almost every Sunday. Even after I've left the church, this sing still holds a special place in my heart. 💕
One of the most beautiful hymns the MTC has ever sung.
HOLY COW the goosebumps!!!
How firm a foundation...Ye saints of the lord!
No matter where we are, if we have a firm gospel foundation, things will work out because of our faith, I know that to be true!!!
The 4th verse always gets me. It's a shame it's rarely sung.
When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not thee o’erflow,
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee, and sanctify to thee,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
Wow...I want to hear that one here...
.
this church is true.

I have not been able to get this hymn out of my heart (so to speak) for this past year. It became my anthem in September 2020 and was a comfort to me when my father passed that November. It is such a wonderful testimony of the love our Heavenly Father and our Savior have for us. It's so beautiful. ❤️
It brings tears to my eyes to think about the BEAUTIFUL gift of faith! In this faithless world we live, i feel honored to believe in God and Jesus Christ! God bless you all, no matter your religion… if you believe in Jesus Christ, we are all the same family!
This has always given me strength in times of need. I like to listen to it before my big exams. "Fear not I am with thee oh be not dismayed. For I am thy God and will still give thee aid."
THIS IS MY FAVORITE HYMM THANK YOU TO THE MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHIRST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS WHO UPLOAD THIS SONG THANK AND MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU.
That third verse. Gets me every time...
If ever a time this hyme was needed to remind us of our Savior's promise to us if we just follow His guidelines and redouble our efforts to worship Him and love Him by loving our fellow man again. Following the 10 commandments at least. our Savior will save us from this mess. We just need to get back to the basics.
A wonderful song that brings strong courage, hope and grace. With things getting crazier and crazier so quickly, it builds much faith in these last days.
This is music sent from heaven!
I have loved the lyrics of this song since I was a very young girl. The 3rd and 4th verses choke me up every time I listen or try to sing them. I especially love watching videos of the MTC because my younger brother is in the choir!!!
That's nice, say halloo to him.
A very Beautiful Song and a Great Message in it. God Will Never Forsake Us.This is one of my favorites.
"The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake."
This verse gets to me every single time!
I will not, I cannot desert to his foes.
this arrangement is absolutely beautiful.
I very much agree with you to that😊
The hym always reminds me when I was at the South Africa mtc,we sang it on our last day at the chapel,it was so much powerfull,it's a song that reminds me how much am loved and how much am cared for
In addition to making a renewed commitment to reading the scriptures every day I've been starting every day listening to the choir singing "Come, Come Ye Saints" and this hymn every day when I get up and it has made a real difference in my attitude and the way my entire day goes. This beautiful uplifting music 🎶 helps me keep my focus to be in the world but not of the world 🎶🎵🙏🙏
I have been going to church since I was very little. I still cry everytime I sing/hear this song
My daughter just love's this hymn. One reason l believe, is because she sung it so many times! while she was serving as a missionary, in the London England Mission. :) 🇬🇧
Listening to this gives me strength and courage. He our foundation.
He is our foundation.
I love being an LDS singer. I've sung in the Assembly Hall, Tabernacle and Conference Center. It's pretty awesome.
Repent, mormonism is false christianity.
Deeck Sneeze How? We believe in Christ. That seems to fit the definition pretty well.
***** You don't believe in the Christ whois described in the bible, who is the Christ who has always existed and has no beginning or end who created all things who also is God and is uncreated. You believe in the Christ who is created, who is brothers with Satan and is the spirit child of Elohim who was once a man on another planet. Repent, you believe in a false Jesus.
such bitterness. Im glad i dont belong to a church that way I stand a chance of getting into heaven.
@@gobicamel It makes me sad that someone calling themselves a true Christian would denounce a fellow believer like that, especially in a time like this where religious freedoms are under attack. We must stick together in the things we agree on, and build off each others' beliefs. I know it's been a long time since you posted this, but if you can get your hands on the recent show The Chosen and watch it I think that would be great. I heard it was written with input from all major Christian beliefs, including yours and ours, and it might help put the focus on what we have in common, the belief in Christ.
proud to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints😃😃
Aren't you glad we have a loving savior who can n will help us through whatever we are facing! He will be there!❤. We do however gotta do our part to reach out to him!
This music is so strong I feel really close to my God because I know he will never forsake me.
PRAISE ouR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Ive been trying to go on my Mission since I graduated last year, I had my doubts.. I questioned the Church, because I was taught that if you weren't questioning something.. You weren't thinking about it. I've come to realize that the Church is true, that it is perfect, but we the people are not.. The 3rd verse.. gets me every time, as a struggling priesthood holder..
Asael Pagofie as someone in the same situation as you, hearing your testimony gives me strength. In our toughest times we must remember there is someone wanting to help us, we just need to get over ourselves and ask for that help and strength. Thank you brother.
Rh tj hmm good
This is correct. The Gospel is true, people are not. You're on the right track
I am going on my mission on January 22 2019, It took almost 4 months to get my call and a huge trial of patience. I can't wait, Church Headquarters here I come!
"The Church is perfect but we the people are not" that is one of the most profound things I've ever heard concerning things like that I was definitely not expecting to find in a UA-cam comment section thank you
With all respect to the original arrangement, this one has to be the DEFINITIVE version. :)
I love the beginning! Proud member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints.
BROWN COCONUT me to!!!
Same here. The Church is the best thing that happened to me.

Hello! How are you?
At 3:29 the guy in the top right corner is just so full of joy
when all the instruments stop around 1:56 that is how you know this choir is incredible because of how they sing without the instruments.
listening to this hym make me have joy with a cry of happiness
The Mormon Tabernacle choir with Richard Elliott at the organ wow.
God is more interested in changing your thinking than in changing your circumstances.
God is interested in strengthening us, after all, trial is what sharpens us as individuals. Imagine a father that spoils his children instead of allowing them to grow and develop in hardship. Which is more interested in his children's success?
Note the power of the 3rd verse here that seems to take front stage; but the interesting part is that they sing it a cappella...so wonderful. So grateful for the emotions and comfort I find in this verse, and all the others.
I LOVE this song when I sing this during sacrament meeting!!!
PRAISE U LORD JESUS CHRIST my FRIEND
I love this song beyond measure.
This song reminds me of my late father hallelujah
Me too, I remember him every this hymn is sung because it his favourite hymn and I know he still sings it in heaven.
The best song ever!
Che meraviglia. Siete eccezionali.
How can this choir sing such a magnificent song and not get emotional. Just by listening I am in tears. God is good. Hallelujah.
Satan really hates this song and me listening to it. I was listening to another song, secular in nature, no pausing. Yet this one paused every few seconds. It didn't matter I listened anyway and was uplifted. No matter what the beauty and message gets through.
SAME thing has happened to me.... He REALLY doesn't like anything that brings the spirit close.
I fully believe the Enemy seeks to destroy every good thing in our lives. When we understand that, we can flout him, laugh at him, disregard him, dismiss him, and bring every power of Jesus' name against him. The reality of this truth dumbfounds me at times - I simply cannot fathom that my life is the battleground for these forces. Nothing has ever made more sense to me; it explains everything about the world we live in. Bless His Holy Name!
adonai leichnitz Yes, he does. Especially the third.."Fear not...." God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power...the apostle Paul
adonai leichnitz
"The works, and the designs, and the purposes of God cannot be frustrated, neither can they come to naught.
For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left...and his course is one eternal round.
Remember, remember that it is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men." (Doctrine & Covenants 2:1-3)
This actually has substance to it so it takes more to play it. :)
Indeed a firm foundation has been laid for us.
The Lord is since my baptism as Lutheran as 11 old boy my salvation.
Survived the disaster of the EL All Boeing at October 4th at the 10th Floor. It has strengthened my believe in Jesus Christ our Lord !
This is one hymn that gives me comfort and courage when I'm up against the wall. Thank you, Heavenly Father for loving me!
How firm my Faith in Jesus will always be love you god .I may fall sometimes but I will get up again always.
AAAAHHHH I almost cried watching this, I love this piece so much!!
Camille Bruner me to... love being n I'm so very grateful to be a member of this amazing church n I know with out a shadow of a doubt that this church is the true church of Jesus Christ on this earth...
powerful hymns. spiritually rich.
This is like THE anthem, along with "I BELIEVE IN CHRIST" ...
Such power in these words...
I get choked up on "I'll never, no never, no NEVER forsake. .." I love this arrangement with the horns and the up-tempo pace. This is how it is MEANT to be sung and played! LOVE it!!!😀
I love hearing the Mormon tabernacle choir sing and my mom loved hearing them sing to
Words are not adequate to express the hope that the words of this hymn brings to me. It manages to reach down into the very depths of my soul and lets me know as an excommunicant that HE will never forsake me or forget me.
I love how my one of my favorite hymn was published on my birthday :)
I love this song so much

How wonderful is our Savior!
My most favorite and treasured hymn.
Such power and feeling of a beautiful spirit .
The spirit of God like a fire is burning,
the sprit of God is beaming with pride when we listen to any hymn. My Ward (congregation) loves this song.
The lyrics of this Hymn is our Savior Jesus Christ speaking to those who seek to follow Him. So powerful if you listen to this in that perspective. My favorite Hymn. Hands down
Thinking of you mom and dad. Your favorite LDS hymn for general conference. ❤️❤️😥😥
"I 'll never no never forsake."" Give me the strength O'Father
me gusta este himno. que firmes cimientos.

Really loved the 7th verse. It reminds us to always stand in our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, with firmness. XOXO ❤
The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose

That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,

I start my days now listening to this beautiful, uplifting choir. How it sets me up for the day!
"What more can he say, than to you he hath said?" Exactly!

"Fear not, I am with thee"
I just can't get this tune out of my mind. I have played this many times in church on organ and with instruments!
