i left the church when i was 13 (now 24) because of my parents divorcing and leaving the church. i am at work tonight and randomly felt compelled to look up all these old songs and i'm almost in tears. the nostalgia and feeling the spirit as i did as a young boy is overwhelming. what a beautiful sound.
The Spirit truly is wonderful. I'm not sure if you are looking for it right now, but I hope you find everything that you had as a 13 year old, if not more now that you are older. Whatever is going on in your life, good luck to you brother (I mean that in both a religious and not religious way, lol).
By the way, personally, when it comes to important things, I don't believe in random. I believe that "random" was the Holy Ghost.

I am a catholic. But I'm always amazed at how, regardless of our religious differences, music can bring us all together to praise Christ. The Tabernacle choir, is America's Choir.

My father told me that he would sing this song to me in my crib when I was yet a baby. I'm grateful for the news of the true gospel present again on the earth
I first heard this song when I was in an Iron Lung after being stricken by polio. Years later, while playing football at the University of Utah, I was walking by a Church and heard it again. I walked in and sat through the service, eventually becoming so impressed that I joined the LDS Faith. It's a decision that changed my life and has brought nothing but happiness to me and my family 😀

This song means so much to me. I heard it on one of the first times I ever came to visit the church before I was baptized and it made me cry. For some reason its the only song that will make me cry now every time i hear it. Honestly it's embarrassing when it plays at church now because I totally lose it hahah. I wish I could understand why that specific song affects me in such a way!

I’m not if the Utah Saints but I cannot deny the beauty of their choir. I don’t know what I think of Joseph Smith, but I’ve experienced the power of the Book of Mormon firsthand and would that EVERY Christian would read it and keep it near. The Book of Mormon belongs to Catholics and Baptists as much as it does to the Restoration Movement - God has given it for and to all the nations of the Earth, the duty falls on us to live its teachings.
You are absolutely correct! The Book of Mormon is for all people because it testifies of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father's love for each of us. Continue to study, ponder, pray about it. Answers will come, of this I know.

My mom is a violinist in the Orchestra :) She's been in for more than 20 years, and she loves it so much. It's been a huge blessing in my life to have music in my family, and to watch her perform so many spiritually uplifting songs over the years. I love music!!
This year marks 200 years since the first vision of the father and his son Jesus Christ appearing to Joseph Smith in the grove and it is beautiful to hear Christ's choir on this earth sing of the spirit of God praise to his Holy name for ever and ever amen

I have loved singing choral music for 25 years. I grew up listening to the choral anthems of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and it is because of this ensembles patriotic musical recordings that I know beautiful pieces such as "This Is The Army Mr. Jones" and "Give Me Your Tired Your Poor". These beautiful melodies shall live on in our American music history forever.
I love listening to the Tabernacle Choir. When it’s my time to be with our father I would love to have them sing at my church. It will touch EVERYONE in a great way!
What a magnificent church to have a choir that is known throughout the world. Even the nonbelievers love their music . This is truly the Church of Jesus Christ on Earth!

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is single-handedly the best choir in the world. Full stop.
This song will always have a special place in my heart. I had the opportunity to participate in the dedication of the Rome Italy temple, where we sang this song after doing the Hosanna shout. I also participated in the Hosanna shout during the April 2020 General Conference (where I'm pretty sure we also sang this song) and I got to wave the same handkerchief on both special occasions. I absolutely love this song. On a separate note, one of my friends once said in a sacrament meeting talk, "The Spirit of God like a furnace is working." This really hit me, because sometimes I don't think I can feel the Spirit, but when I'm in a situation where I can't feel the Spirit, I recognize that I do feel the Spirit, I just don't notice it sometimes because that feeling is so constant. Hosanna, Hosanna, to God and the Lamb, henceforth and forever, Amen and Amen.

(1) "The Spirit of God" lyrics and music were inspired by God as an anthem of strength for Saints all over the planet,( 2) Mack Wilberg is the greatest chorale arranger on the planet, (3) the Tabernacle Choir ranks as perhaps the greatest 'tour de force' choirs in the world and (4) the combination of #1-3 above is WHY this piece moves hearts and souls everywhere. What a gift to us today to casually listen to this any time we want.
How could you not cry when listening or singing this? So beautiful, one of my favorites.

The Lord loves you and wants you to come back to him. I was away for far too long. One of the scariest things I ever did was to actually drive to the church, get out and go inside. Once I did, I felt like I had come home. I knew I was where I was meant to be. You can do it, the Lord is on your side.
I believe the Lord is giving us a glimpse of the"choirs of Angels" on earth through the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
No song on earth can be closer to Christ and his God and when sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, It is like the Anthem to proclaiming Christ himself and a witness to the world of his divine kingdom .
I don’t what being a Mormon is al about, I follow my god through another religion, saw the Choir sing when I worked in the USA, they were fantastic, full of emotion when they sing, One of the best choirs I have ever heard, but each to their own. Singing and shouting with the armies of heaven as the second coming takes place and the millenium starts!!!!!! I know the powers in Heaven, that watch over us are real. They help us to magnify our callings, to repent, to love and care for our families no matter what age they are, they help us to learn of The Lords ways, they help to aid us with comfort, with blessings, etc. I have felt these sacred messengers in heaven on occasions when i have needed help and great comfort. When i visited my 87 year old mother in her nursing home, before the pandemic, i can feel the love and power of her covenant keeping. Oh what a special bond. The powers of heaven are real I add my testimony to this!
This song is very sacred and special. So many memories and hopes are attached to this song for me. Amazing amazing song. I know Jesus lives and loves us so personally so powerfully.

In these troubling times we are in. This gives me comfort.
I learned not long ago about the man who wrote this hymn. His name was William Wines Phelps. Joseph Smith loved the hymn so much that he had the words imprinted on white satin which he strung up, and the hymn was sung at the very first temple dedication. Ever since, it has been a tradition to sing this hymn at temple dedications.
This isn't very much information, but I encourage people to read about William Wines Phelps and how he joined the church, grew, fell, was forgiven and returned. It is a story of warning that even the best can fall, but it is also a wonderful story that sheds more light on Joseph Smith's wonderful character and on Christ's willingness to forgive those who earnestly seek after him and repent of what they've done.
Emily, Actually this song was sung at the first temple dedication at Kirtland, Ohio. I believe it was written specifically for that event. It was also included in the first LDS hymnal.

I know this was 2 years ago but I recently read about William Phelps in the Saints. I’m really thankful for him for composing and writing the lyrics for this wonderful hymn 😄

The music is superb at that church.
I love this hymn, and especially this performance. I see the soloist as representing Joseph Smith, who testified alone at the beginning of the Restoration. Then there were other witnesses who joined him. Now we as a Church and as a people are called to share the gospel and gather Israel in our own neighborhoods. Thanks for this wonderful music!

I have some of their music somewhere i bought many years ago i must get it and play it, listening to this choir has really lifted my spirits up, it has made me want to sing which makes me feel happy and healthier when i do so i must get on with it, this music is out of this world, thank you.

I really wish there were many more good choirs, like this one, i really want to sing in a good choir. This singing on this player is so brilliant, this is really uplifting, it moves my heart, it lifts my spirits, the words are so good and full of meaning, they comfort me greatly, i could listen to a choir like this for hours and hours and still want more i absolutely love it so much, thank you.
If you have had the privilege of hearing the choir in person the power of the Spirit is absolutely incredible. The Spirit of God penetrates the soul and fills you with such peace.
The spirit really speaks to you... especially when you get to hear them practice, AND THEN perform. I love my Lord and God, Jesus Christ and His church and I know that Joseph Smith was a real prophet and this is the true church.
Just visited a Spoken Word taping with several non member friends. They were so impressed by the choir and the music that it left an indelible impression on them. Undeniable spirit reigned and had touched them to tears.
i remember seeing them when i was 8 and i don’t remember much, but i remember the incredible spirit there. i now want to go to byu for music and hope to see them soon
This is the one song I memorized and request to have played at my baptism. It was also one of the first songs I played for the congregation when I was called to play the piano in church.

This verse is one of my absolute favorites in this song. In my patriarchal blessing I was told that I am from the tribe of Ephraim. This song is so powerful that I cannot wait till that day.

I got super pumped when I heard the into to this song in April 2021 conference. It was the very first session I believe.
When they got to that last verse, it just hit me hard and I couldn't hold back the tears. What a special way to start that conference.

About the best hymn by the Tabernacle Choir. I came across this hymn about 1990 and have sung it uncountable times ever since then. Glory to God and the Lamb, even as we mark the Resurrection of our Christ today.
Since october I was waiting for this video and when I finally found it on UA-cam I've felt so happy! This is my favourite Hymn. Beautiful performance!

I remember at a stake youth activity years ago the fire alarm went off and we all evacuated the building. As we waited, we all burst into song singing this. Not exactly what the song meant by “like a fire is burning”, but we felt the spirit doing it and it was very wholesome

It is an amazing hymn and well sung (and I am not even Mormon). I wish all my children who sing so well did as much daily singing of hymns as I did at school. We are in danger of losing all that children learned through hymns, throwing the baby out with the bathwater and not necessarily anything to do with God but about singing together, harmony, music, community,....

What a great blessing to live in a time we can invite the Tabernacle Choir into our homes and have the blessings of the Spirit they bring with this beautiful music. I am so grateful that the Church of Jesus Christ embraces good technology and that it can be used to improve and bless our lives. Bringing this into my morning scripture study helps me feel the Spirit of God.

I'll never forget singing this song with the BYU student body in the old feild house before the Marriott Center was built. Being from rural Idaho it was a thrill of thrills to be with so many spirit filled youth singing at the top of our lungs with the BYU orchestra. Angels had to be singing too just like this beautiful rendition. Awe the blessings of heaven!!!
