This is how it is with most people. It doesn't matter how much you make. It matters how much you keep. There are so many stories where people make tons and are somehow broke with no idea where the money went. Need to get serious

Struggling people would be rightfully mad that an individual in the 1st world is making decent extra cash from a simple side job and also the fact that people in a first world country have the non-essential luxury of affording birds while being able to pay people to babysit them.

@unfair sanic - I’m with you. I’ve taken care of both on different occasions. Pets are much easier. Don’t talk back, very easygoing, especially cats.
I feel the same, I could totally save money but mentally I just haven't locked down on staying disciplined, especially when it comes to fast food lol. Gonna try the cash in hand method instead.

@@semosancus5506 That's exactly what they need, the other personalities are super dry and take forever to get to the point-- and when they do talk, it's echoing the same basic level stuff Dave talks about. They need someone who can actually hold their own and give insight with their own brain, she seems like she can do that AND will call people out directly like Dave does instead of beating around the bush forever

Pay your health and car insurance from the bird business account. Less business profit but more personal income for your budget. Don't forget to budget gas, parking and parking tickets (Chicago!) for traveling to clients as a business expense.

Your missing the issue. He could get a degree in accounting, buy every software program, hire a full time accountant. Won't address the real issue. Until he wakes up and learns how to manage his money and "pay himself first" it's not gonna make any difference in his spending habits. This behavior is so prevalent in our society today it's sad. At least this caller recognizes this at a young age and hopefully, has the discipline to correct it.
I don't think that's the core issue. The core issue is that he doesn't have any brakes on his impulses.

Because birds have a very high metabolism, specific dietary needs and are very prone to upper respiratory infections as well as stress disorders, any person that maintains them needs a great deal of background experience in their medical needs, as well as social and exercize requirements. Plus they need to be in touch with a vet that has experience or specializes in avian medicine. The difference between a canary and a macaw are extreme, as they are suited for different climates, humidity levels, diets and need for time outside a cage every day. A dependable care taker can charge a lot to care for these animals.
