Dude has won a Grammy in every decade he's worked. He's probably one of the best musicians this country has produced, and he exclusively does parody and polka.
Not true. Yes, he’s known for his parodies, and yes, he typically includes a medley of popular tunes done as a polka (and a few other styles included as well), but a good bit of his material is original.
Saw him last summer and he and the band played their non parody originals. What shocked me was that it was actually such good, solid music on its own. No need for the humor. I was really amazed.
@@YaelleG Oh, there's humour. All his originals are funny too, just not specifically parodying another song. Most of them do parody the STYLE of a particular artist though, sometimes called a 'pastiche'. "Dog Eat Dog" is a Talking Heads pastiche. Mr. Popeil is the B-52s. Velvet Elvis is The Police, and Biggest Ball of Twine is Harry Chapin.

That is literally Donny Osmond dancing with him when he's dressed like Eminem, I never noticed that before and I have seen this video a few times. He Thug Life on that White and Nerdy. LOL!
When Michael Jackson found out that Al wanted to do Eat it to parody beat it, he had his choreographer work with Al’s damn era and Al to get all the moves right and he had his team rebuild the beat it set for Al. Al has been doing this for over 40 years. True talent. Check out Fat - MJ’s Bad Word crimes ( blurred lines) Amish paradise Living with a hernia It’s all about the pentiums Trapped in the drive thru.
Something very cool about Weird Al was that he never required licensing to create his music. He would personally sell his pitch, ask for permission, and if they said no, he moved on. Eventually his name was so unbelievably widespread that a cover of his, would make originals pop-off generating original artists' revenue. It was a better time. Creativity is WHO the guy is.
@@islandmankWell, no, there were others, but it was generally linked to some particular issue. "Chicken Pot Pie" got a no, for example, because "Live and Let Die"'s original artist was vegetarian-the irony being that Al had turned vegetarian by this time, too, but he just thought it was funny anyway, lol. Eminem strangely gave multiple yeses to album tracks but a no to "Couch Potato"'s video, for another example.
I've been listening to Weird Al for over 30 years. He is an insanely talented musician, especially when it comes to rap. He's also unofficial metric of success in the music industry; if he parodies one of your songs, you _know_ you've made it. Amish Paradise, Eat It, Fat, Tacky, Smells Like Nirvana, Word Crimes, Trapped In The Drive-Thru... There are so many great songs.
I've told our younger daughters that when we die, White and Nerdy is to be played at my husband's funeral and Tacky for mine...lol....my best theme song.
I've been blessed to see him live TWICE, thanks to my BFF. He's equally as talented recorded or live. And he's known for going out into the audience, and making sure people can afford his tickets and merch. 💜
He's in an epic rap battle as sir Isaac Newton...he is a master at his craft I'd suggest looking up more from him. He's been doing this stuff since the 80s and hasn't stopped yet.
The guy dancing behind him is Donny Osmond of the Osmond Brothers a group of white brothers similar to the Jackson 5 they were considered wholesome in the 70's 😮
"I Lost On Jeopardy" by Weird Al is legitimately one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Not sure if the humor translates to your generation, but for those that were around in the early to mid 80s, it hits hard.
I was in preliminary rounds to be a Jeopardy contestant back in the 90s. Things were going really well until I started glitching over answers I should have known. When all I could hear was Weird Al’s “I lost at Jeopardy” running through my brain I just started to laugh and walked away.
Gentlemen, I submit for your consideration: 'Hardware Store' by Weird Al, it's one of his original songs and will absolutely blow your minds. On the subject of ERB: 'Vlad the Impaler vs Dracula', 'Clint Eastwood vs Bruce Lee', 'Muhammed Ali vs Michael Jordan', and 'Thor vs Zeus' are all excellent choices, but ERB really only has like two or three that AREN'T awesome. Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid. Start with 'Moses vs Santa Claus', you won't be sorry.
The first Weird Al song I heard was when I was a kid in the 80s: "Eat It" - a parody of Michael Jackson's "Beat It". After that there was a slew of songs. In the early 90s he spoke with Kurt Cobain on the phone about doing a parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Cobain wondered if it was gonna be about food. Weird Al said something to the effect that it was gonna be about how no one knows the lyrics to your songs. Other artists have gone on record saying they were honored when approached by Weird Al because that is a sight that you're "made it" as an artist.
Weird Al is so funny! I must say, he could actually be a rapper. He is really good with his lyrical flow! I have been a Weird Al fan for almost 40 years.
He always gets permission from the people he parodies. Most people LOVE it. Michael Jackson loved it so much he gave Weird Al free rein to parody any of his songs.
Love this parody because not not only shows how good he is as an artist but as a rapper as well because he perfectly matches 2 different rappers flows which is no small thing
Not very many people know about this but als parents died april 9th 2004 because of carbon monoxide poisoning. 2 years before straight outta lynwood. He could have quit making fire from the gods but bro powered thru. Dudes legit in every direction.

The Star Wars Holiday special isn't a bootleg per se, just impossible to find to the point of having to have someone steal it if you want it. It was a TV special that was never released on VHS or DVD to the public. The only copy ever made on VHS was for and in the possession of Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and since she died is part of her estate. At the time of making this song and video, she was still alive, so if you wanted to take possession of the one genuine copy of the tape, which would be absolutely top tier nerd cred, you'd have to have someone go steal it from her home.
The poorly dancing guy behind him is Donnie Osmond. He's also pretty famous. He and his sister Marie used to sing in the 70's. Weird AL is a parody legend!

Guys, that was Donny Osmond dancing. He has a great sense of humor about himself.
the version with just him and donny osmond is really good. donny dances around behind him.
The sad thing is they have no idea who Donny Osmond is or how incredibly funny this is.
Came here to say this!!! Classic. I love how Donnie has a sense of humor about himself. Also, "Be a Man" from Mulan is my fave Diney movie tune and it's partlly because he sings the F*** out of it.
@@MarkMcLT It's true. They also missed the Seth Green reference. ...on the other hand, I didn't know the guys in the car were Key & Peele, so.....
That is literally Donny Osmond dancing with him when he's dressed like Eminem, I never noticed that before and I have seen this video a few times. He Thug Life on that White and Nerdy. LOL!
The guy dancing behind him is Donny Osmond- a 70's pop star.
Artists have said countless times that you haven’t made it in the industry until Weird Al has made a parody of one of your songs.
When Michael Jackson found out that Al wanted to do Eat it to parody beat it, he had his choreographer work with Al’s damn era and Al to get all the moves right and he had his team rebuild the beat it set for Al.
Al has been doing this for over 40 years. True talent.
Check out
Fat - MJ’s Bad
Word crimes ( blurred lines)
Amish paradise
Living with a hernia
It’s all about the pentiums
Trapped in the drive thru.
He also got Eddie VanHalen, who played the guitar solo on Beat It, to play the guitar solo for the Eat It track.
don't forget the saga begins, oreo, and couch potato
They also used the same set for Fat as for Bad.
You have to love that he had Donny Osmond dancing with him in that vid!! They don't get any whiter!
This song is his masterpiece- you really need to listen to the lyrics about 20 times at least to appreciate all the genius of it.
No disrespect to the fellas, but I doubt they know the original track enough to have fully appreciated this one.
Or have a good IQ and just catch and appreciate on the go ;)
Something very cool about Weird Al was that he never required licensing to create his music.
Don’t forget that his band is playing alllllll these different genres of songs and nailing every single one.
Donnie Osmond as his backup dancer is pure perfection.
He's in an epic rap battle as sir Isaac Newton...he is a master at his craft I'd suggest looking up more from him. He's been doing this stuff since the 80s and hasn't stopped yet.
Absolutely second this! Sir Isaac Newton vs Bill Nye with Chali 2na from Jurassic5 cameo.
Some can say he can jerk your butt of in a rap of Newton😅
Loved Donny Osmond dancing in the background.
Weird Al is funny af but a genius when it comes to parodies!!! 🤯🤣🤣
Please play Blue on Black by Kenny Wayne Sheppard!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Its my 2nd fav song 🥰
Weird.
@@diggity1039 🤦🏻♀️ya thanks! Fixin that rn
Five finger death punch’s cover is way better and it’s not even close
@@braydenheadrick4778 Five finger butt punch' best songs are covers, and even those are shit.
One of my favourite videos and being a lady of a certain age who was a huge Donny Osmond fan in my teens made it even better 😂
Most artist consider it highest honors if Weird Al does a parody of one of their songs. Love him, glad you reacted to one of his!
The cutest reaction I've ever seen, I couldn't stop smiling.
Parodies existed long before him, but he hit it big when MTV came along and featured his videos. He's brilliant!
First Al song I ever heard - started me down a 30+ year rabbit hole of parodies.
RIP Greg Kihn
Weird Al is the GOAT. It is an honor if he parody’s one of your songs. The guy is witty and he and his band are super talented musically.
My fave is Joker v. Pennywise
@@ericwhite2830 Also a fine choice. 😎👍
"Hardware Store" is unquestionably mind-blowing, and I still love it.
Hardware Store is my top Weird AL song, it's brilliant
Not ONE of you talking about Donny Osmond back there. Best part!! 😂😂😭😭😭
I never knew that Donny Osmond could move that well. LMAO
He doesn't get enough props for his rapping skills
Key and Peele with W.A. are true Parody Gangstas 🤘🤘😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✌️
That's Donny Osmond dancing in the video with weird Al. From the Osmonds singing group of the 70s.
More Weird Al please😁. One of my favorites was Word Crimes a parody on the Blurred Lines song. Loved the reaction.
Weird is a master in any genre of music, and his band can play it all.
Having Donny Osmond was the cherry on top of this video, lol
Weird Al is so funny! I must say, he could actually be a rapper. He is really good with his lyrical flow! I have been a Weird Al fan for almost 40 years.
He always gets permission from the people he parodies. Most people LOVE it. Michael Jackson loved it so much he gave Weird Al free rein to parody any of his songs.
Madonna was the only one that came to him to do a parody of her songs.
Love this parody because not not only shows how good he is as an artist but as a rapper as well because he perfectly matches 2 different rappers flows which is no small thing
his T.I. What ever you like parody is also one of my favourites
The Donnie Osmond cameo was hilarious!
Not very many people know about this but als parents died april 9th 2004 because of carbon monoxide poisoning. 2 years before straight outta lynwood. He could have quit making fire from the gods but bro powered thru. Dudes legit in every direction.
Its amazing how this man has legitimate skills. . .and chooses to use them ironically. Can we give this man the respect he deserves for being such a legend
Hardware Store, Word Crimes. Great to see you guys check Al out.
Is that Donny Osmond dancing in the background?! 😂
Weird Al has fucking bars dude's rapping ability has to be respected.
LEGEND 🙌
Love Donnie Osmond dancing in the background.
I was listening to Weird Al when I was 12. And now y'all are saying you've known of him since you were younger. I feel like I'm I'm old AF but Al is like iconic for being there for multiple generations. Funny dude, but honestly a really, really good musician. This one is always gonna make me laugh!
My mom is in her 50s and he was around when she was in highschool lol
@@thorkagemob1297 he got started in the 70s. There's a radio show "Dr. Demento" who played Al's first songs but yeah, by the early 80s, he had some fame and us kids (especially us nerdy kids) loved him.
@@shanehebert396 Dr. Demento is where I first heard Weird Al back in the 70s. Been a fan ever since.
Genius in France is probably my favorite because I'm also a big Frank Zappa fan. It's supposedly so difficult that he and the band can't play it live.
@@otherkorean It was 1979 when I heard "My Bologna" on the Dr. D show. I was a sophomore or junior in HS. Been a fan ever since. I was lucky enough to see him live at the Greek Theatre in Hollywood, with my son. It was the Poodle Hat tour in 2003. He and his band are all amazing musicians. I'm white and nerdy myself, so this is one of my very favorites of his.
the backup dancer is Donny Osmond. a heart throb from the 70's. quite popular. but very fitting for this song.
❤ He does I'm Bad by MJ but he sings I'm Fat. It is HILARIOUS!!!!! ❤
Locking the door on a convertible is still my favorite part of the video.😂
Besides Key and Peele, the cast includes:
2:58 Actor Seth Green as the action figure guy
3:48 Singer and entertainer Donny Osmond as the dancer guy
3:51 Stand-up comedian and actor Judy Tenuta as the surge protector lady
Donny Osmond dancing in the background was hilarious.
The two parodies he did of Michael Jackson were Eat It (Beat It) and Fat (Bad)…and they are spot on perfect…and MJ loved them! Michael even helped Al to be able to use the same location for his parody of Bad that HE used!
The Donnie Osmond cameo is priceless, 😆😆😆
If it hasn't been mentioned before, Weird Al absolutely slays with crazy fast bars (like Eminem "Rap God" or "Godzilla" fast) on his song "Hardware Store". There's no official music video for it to my knowledge but you'll want the lyric version anyways. Enjoy!
Hardware Store is possibly my favorite Weird Al song and that is saying something. I also love watching people's faces when they get to That Part. :)

I wasn't certain and had to look it up, but sure enough, that's Donny Osmond dancing behind Weird Al. If you are young - or basically have a life - you may not know who Donny Osmond was. He sang and had a variety show with his sister Marie way back in the day and ..... well, you just kind of have to see it. I can't explain. Let's just say, Donny parodying himself in this song kind of fits. Kudos to him for having a sense of humor, though.
Video starts at 2:04
Simply put..Weird Al s a GENIUS!!!!!! Been a legend for 30+ years 😎
Weird Al's version was Amish Paradise
Classic
@@DoLo_XO yes along with the original og Gangsta's Paradise... RIP Coolio!!! 🕊🙏🏻💙
One of my fav Weird Al videos because Donny Osmond is his back up dancer!
Please do his version of Nirvana's SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT & his James Brown parody LIVING WITH A HERNIA. 😀
My parents made me take 2 years of accordion lessons. I made this work by secretly imagining myself as weird al Yankovic, female version. 🤣
I will never not crack up at him slapping the lock on that car it kills me.
Good stuff right there! Yall should do a reaction video to Anthrax and Public Enemy "Bring the noise" its an awesome metal/hip-hop collaboration. Love your videos my dudes and looking forward to more!
Love that you guys watched some Al finally. Loved him as a kid. He was hilarious without ever being dirty or vulgar or anything. He lasted the test of time and after slightly falling off the radar, this one right here put him back on the map for good.
He did MJ's Beat It (Eat It) and Bad (Fat). He's a certified genius.
Should do the Weird Al parody interview with Eminem.
Know what I mean?
The poorly dancing guy behind him is Donnie Osmond. He's also pretty famous. He and his sister Marie used to sing in the 70's. Weird AL is a parody legend!
Donny Osmond as his background dancer was hilarious, if you remember him from back in the day.
Al is great! Donny Osmond is the guy dancing off to the side in the scenes where AL is dressed 'tough'.
FWIW (copied from wikipedia)
"Fat" is a song by "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is a parody of "Bad" by Michael Jackson and is Yankovic's second parody of a Jackson song, the first being "Eat It", a parody of Jackson's "Beat It".
