""He's actually rapping pretty good on it, it's crazy...He's Grammy-nominated, man. He goes platinum. It's really an honor when he does that. I remember when he redid Michael Jackson's 'Bad.' It's crazy." -- Chamillionaire ""That parody was the reason I won the Grammy, because it made the record so big it was undeniable. It was so big overseas that people were telling me they had heard my version of Weird Al's song."" -- Chamillionaire
Although he shows his rap chops in this one, I consider Weird Als version of Eminems "Lose yourself" called "Couch Potato" an even bigger show of his talents. And as usual the lyrics are simply genius :-)
I knew the Chamillionaire version from the club back in the day, but Weird Al’s is the version I know all the words to. Probably because I am also white and nerdy 😂
Very true. There's a reason why he's worked with a decent handful other artists on straight stuff. From Portugal. The Man to Ben Folds to Brian Wilson. There are more I'm not thinking of. Here are some (but not all) examples: *Portugal. The Man:* "Who's Gonna Stop Me," ua-cam.com/video/qTdgxhQwaVQ/v-deo.html *Ben Folds:* "Time," ua-cam.com/video/dmE4r7i-rLY/v-deo.html *Brian Wilson:* "Let's Stick Together," ua-cam.com/video/74Mrt6JRJzU/v-deo.html
The great thing about Weird Al is that he doesn't just make up great parodies, but he's an actually extremely talented singer and musician. Amazingly in various genres of music.
Weird Al has a HUGE catalog of parodies. If you are a famous artist from 1980 til now, Al has probably done a song of yours. "Amish Paradise", "Handy", "Tacky", "Couch Potato", "Foil", "Like A Surgeon", "I Lost On Jeopardy"... the list is endless
And Key and Peele in the low rider, Seth Green with the action figures, the Star Wars movie that aired only once and every copy was quickly destroyed after that because George Lucas hated it and till today refuses to discuss that holyday special. i'm sure i left out several details that can be found in this video, as well as several cameos by other famous artists and actors. (and yes, that is Donny Osmond ;) )
That was not just a Star Wars tape that was the Star Wars holiday special which only aired once in 78. It was actually really terrible and has never been officially released on tape though you can find it on UA-cam.
Michael Jackson worked with Weird Al on the “Beat It” parody song “Eat It.” I can just hear MJ saying “Oh a weird Al. You’re so funny. (In his soft MJ voice).
The thing about this one that hits you after a while is that you realize that IF HE WANTED TO BE, Weird Al could be a hot ass hip hop star! That dude wrote all those lyrics and hit every inflection and beat perfectly. The dude CAN flow, man! Ya gotta respect that.
If you continue down this rabbit hole (you absolutely should!) you should watch "Living with a Hernia" next. It's a James Brown parody, and it's priceless.
I saw Weird Al live in 2017. He is a phenomenal vocalist, plays multiple instruments, all while being hilarious. He also just doesn't age. He looks the same or better than he did 30 years ago.
Omg, going down the Weird Al rabbit hole! Back in the day you knew you made it big when Weird Al did a parody of your song 🎵 so please do more Weird Al, I highly recommend Amish Paradise!!! Weigh Al as bars guys!!!
My wife and I saw Weird Al in concert before... He puts on one amazing show.. Changes outfits between pretty much every song and puts such high energy into everything he does..
What Mel said, about the gangsters never trying to hurt the nerd, is something I always found hilarious. They're not your stereotypically dangerous thugs-- they're more like the "cool kids" who were too snobby to talk to you in high school. 😂
Oh now you’re talkin! Ok so I have a list of his greatest: Fat, Stuck in a Closet with Vanna White, Living With a Hernia, Eat It, Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch , Love Rocky Road, My Bologna, Another One Rides the Bus, I think I. A Clone Now, Beverly Hillbillies. I’m a HUGE Al nerd!
Weird Al truly deserves the title of LEGEND. Still funny. Funniest thing ever was Coolio getting pissed off when every other bigger Star always loves being roasted by him as that’s a sign you’ve made it big.
Great choice! Been listening to Weird Al for over 30 years, his catalog is overflowing with funny, creative and impressive, and he's still going strong - saw him in concert about 2 years ago, had a large orchestra playing with him and his band - was very entertaining. My favorites (well, there's way too many): "Dare To Be Stupid" (not an actual song parody, but in the style of the band DEVO), "Bob" (Bob Dylan satire), "Headline News" (Crash Test Dummies Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm), "Foil" (Lorde - Royals), and I think you would love "Trapped In The Drive Thru" (R. Kelly - Trapped In The Closet)
The thing about weird al and his band....they have been performing for over 40 years. He can play any type of music. from r&b to rap from rock to heavy metal. he can do it all. Many people can do parodies but instead of taking cheap way and doing it karaoke, the band meticulously recreate the song from the ground up. I once read, that music is the straight man and the lyrics are the comedy. If you make the song silly the parody doesn't work.
Al can rap.....!!!! There is nothing wrong with being smart. Especially when you combine it creatively with brains. I think Al is the GOAT of parody... He is funny.... AND he can dance --- have you two seen Al's fat???? Check it out!
I love that song. That's one of the songs that made me comfortable owning my own nerdiness. I can be nerdy but still have a sense of humor about how white and lame I am. Lol
"Amish Paradise" and "The Saga Begins" are still my favorite Weird Al songs. I can't listen to their original songs without Weird Al playing in my head.
In the scene where Donny Osmond is dancing in front of what's supposed to be the Schrodinger wave equation, they used h (Planck's constant) when they were supposed to use h-bar (drawn as an h with a horizontal line segment intersecting the top of the letter), which is Planck's constant divided by 2pi.
Don't know if anyone mentioned, but fun bit of trivia: "Weird" Al is one of only _four_ artists/bands to have top 40 hits in 4 decades. The other three are Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2.
So as others have said, weird Al is actually a big deal. He’s been big since the 80’s, when he became famous for doing parodies of Michael Jackson’s biggest 80’s hits. (BTW, MJ definitely had a good since of humor and thoroughly enjoyed Al’s parodies of his work. When Al asked MJ if he could do a parody of “bad” MJ not only said yes but invited him to use the same set he’d had built for “bad”) So Al now can boast a 40+year career, outlasting many of the artists he’s parodied.
You should do a deep dive on Weird Al's music. He's got a lot of really good ones. Like "I lost on jeopardy" or "Amish paradise" or "first world problems"
I really hope you do more Weird Al. He is an icon in parody, and it is just such a good time!!!! Go crazy in his catalogue. Personally I love "Word Crimes", "Foil" and "Smells like nirvana". But he is just a comedic genius, so please react to more from him!!! Great first reaction, have a good weekend!
Al told the story about when he knew he made it. He went to a fancy party and heard somebody say "Holy shit! Weird Al's here!" It was Paul McCartney that said it.
Loving you guys' reactions. Glad you enjoyed Average White Band during your stream the other day 😊 Seeing as you like a laugh, check out Alestorm - Sh*t Boat (No Fans) or F**ked By An Anchor ... you'll not be disappointed!

MJ was SO EXCITED for Weird Al to parody his songs. He helped him with choreography etc...
Aww! Nice.
I knew the Chamillionaire version from the club back in the day, but Weird Al’s is the version I know all the words to. Probably because I am also white and nerdy 😂
I think his rap skills on Hardware Store even exceed both Couch Potato and White and Nerdy.
Donny Osmond dancing in the background just doesn't get enough credit... Funny as heck.
Weird Al said Donny actually memorized all the words in like a day
He still got it.
The prince of white and nerdy!
Yes I agree 👍💯
@@EssEll9791 fact's
Shout out to Donnie Osmond. He was tearing up that background dancing!!!
There's another version of the video where it's literally just Al with Donny dancing away the whole time.

Hooray for Donnie Osmond!! He is famous for being a Mormon. Mormons are so clean cut and wholesome they don't even drink coffee.
@@gwillis01 lmfao yeah, that's what they tell people. I know better.
One of the ABSOLUTE most brilliant minds in music. Weird Al can do pretty much anything musical.

Weird Al is an underrated rapper,he’s done many parodies with skill
He also does a flawless Jim Morrison!
Seth Green was the one showing off the action figures, and Donny Osmond was the nerdy dancer!
And don't forget Key and Peele at the beginning in the car.
The music artists use too say you know you have made it if Weird Al made a parody of their songs .
Cameo appearances by Key & Peele, Seth Green, Donny Osmond and Judy Tenuta.
When Donny Osmond busts out with the dancing is when I have trouble holding it together 😂
America's favorite nerdy teen idol 💜
When Donny showed up to the set he asked Al what to do. Al said "dance as white as possible".
The great thing about Weird Al is that he doesn't just make up great parodies, but he's an actually extremely talented singer and musician. Amazingly in various genres of music.

Weird Al did a supreme job of rapping. Legit. Took a subject matter and made it his.
