- Welcome back everyone! In this video, Bob is replacing the IWE Solenoid that causes issues in a lot of F-150's and other Ford vehicles in his 2013 F150 STX. This guide will be similar to all F-150's (and other Ford vehicles like the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator) ranging from 2004 to 2020. Overall the process will be very similar. Thanks for watching and let us know in the comments what you think!

Just purchased the the 7L1Z-9H465-B 1X along with the check valve
Awesome, let me know how it goes man!
@@TrickShiftGarage UPDATE!!! Can’t believe But after replacing the transfer case motor . It fixed the problem !!!! We have 4x4 system working now flawlessly. Just gonna plan a diff and transfer case fluid maintenance!!
Oh man that's awesome! So happy you got it fixed brother. Thanks for the update!
Good stuff. When I had an IWE go bad I started here hoping that’s all it was. When that wasn’t it I replaced the check valve and all the IWE vacuum lines - parts cannon firing away. It ultimately ended up being the IWE itself - but at least everything is new now should the passenger side start grinding.
Yea I started with the IWE and luckily that was the issue. These solenoids and check valves typically don't fail, but it can still happen. I think you still did the right thing. Starting with the cheapest parts first is always a wise move. It would have sucked to go through the hassle of changing the IWE and then finding out it was the solenoid or check valve.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! 🤟
Just my $0.02. There was a TSB where they basically cap off the vacuum lines. You can either replace the vacuum lines and most likely have the issue come back, or you can cap off the system and potentially have a leak again. Or you can simply unplug the solenoid.
Unplugging it will basically allow the hubs to lock to the wheel and spin the axles. Butttttt your transfer case isn’t engaged.
It miiiiiiiiight effect fuel efficiency and longevity of the front differential and axles. But it’s a F-150. Nobody buys an F-150 for fuel efficiency. And I’d rather just do a diff fluid change than deal with the stupid IWE lines.
Fair enough. Although I will say, changing the lines was a lot easier than doing a fluid change. Without a drain plug, it's a pain removing the old fluid.
