    I’m pretty young, and actually watched Star Trek: Into Darkness as my first taste of Star Trek. Yep, the second film in the reboot series. Don’t kill me, hardcore trekkies.
    And I loved it. I had barely any idea who the characters were at the start, but by the time I got to Kirk’s death I was literally shouting at my tv. Admittedly it was probably partly because I’m gay and was deeply starved for content, and the attempted hand touch with Spock crying was like...one of the gayest things i’ve seen in cinema.
    After loving into darkness, I pirated the first one and also loved it. Young Jim Kirk was iconic, as was young Spock. The drama and humour and emotion was a blast.
    I watch the original series now mostly as comfort TV, and I love it. I have an admitted soft spot for ludicrous sixties tv (og man from uncle, anyone?) and I think that it’s a great show, if obviously dated. So I’d say the new films definitely got new fans into Star Trek.

      I agree with you. Without the reboot, I fear ST would have died, without the new influx of fans JUST LIKE YOU.
      I also agree with Jesse, they NAILED casting! The new actors GOT and did the basic characterization through to the next incantation, regardless of situation or trivial surrounding facts. It's like they bothered to watch the original series to see who they were supossed to be playing a new younger version of.
      People say William Shatners Kirk is totally different than Pine's, I don't see that.
      I mean of course the actor is different, Pine isn't go to imitate Shatner's version, he's doing Kirk not Shatner. I think he nails Kirk spot on. As do all the actors with the exception of Uhura.
      Idk why they changed her. Uhura has TONS of background in TOS cut scenes and especially the novels. The new personality is totally a different a new character with a completely different nature.
      But the humor is good, the cgi is fantastic, the ship is beautiful!! It's quick paced and action packed. Because they started a new time line, Canon doesn't matter. But a story in every incantation shouldn't abuse a lure just so writers can be lazy and change the world of Trek in the name of their ego maniacal story.
      Not at all like season 2 of PICARD. (Gags and retches)

    I really enjoyed the 2009 Star Trek, and it returned to Irish Netflix recently so I watched it again, and it mostly holds up. It's a bit of a mess narratively and it jumps though a load of hoops to get everyone to where they wanted them to be. But it looks great, the dialogue is fun, the action is enjoyable, and the cast is just about perfect.

    • @fuzzywzhe

      The plot doesn't make any sense. Nero has a MINING ship that can destroy all of Star Fleet - why hasn't he gone back to Romulus with this amazing technology? Why was he after Spock, just because Spock failed? Why did he destroy Vulcan and attempt to destroy Earth? Why didn't he warn Romulus about the eventual supernova that was going to destroy his homeworld?
      The next two films were just about as confused and messed up.
      The special effects were fine, the actors were decent, but the writing was just horrible and forgettable.

    • @lorcannagle
      @lorcannagle 3 роки тому +2

      @@fuzzywzhe Some of your complaints were covered by cut scenes - but other ones are actually plot points explicitly detailed in the movie. Like Nero did want revenge on Spock, which is why he destroyed Vulcan and went after Earth. The movie says this explicitly.

    • @fuzzywzhe
      @fuzzywzhe 3 роки тому

      @@lorcannagle Nero's desire for revenge on a man that TRIED to save his planet, and FAILED, doesn't make sense.
      I don't care what was cut either. The film is the film.
      Here, you want to have a conflict that would be more reasonable? Nero travels back in time (in the same way) and ends up when Kirk and crew are already assembled and Prime Spock gets with the Enterprise. Then it's just Nero going after the Enterprise to get Spock Prime while Nimoy is trying to desperately contact the Romulan empire to warn them of the eventual supernova and saves Romulus making the Romulan empire an ally of the Federation 3 centuries earlier.
      There, you have your whole new timeline, and everything changes.
      You can have all your action sequences you want, and you could even have the Romulan empire trying to stop Nero who is now in hot pursuit of the Enterprise.
      I just don't care really any more. It's clear that all they are EVER going to make is just the thinnest of plots to take you from one action sequence to the next.
      They just don't care about making a coherent story anymore. I can accept that, but I won't ever pay to see any of these things in a theater, ever again. In fact, I won't even watch them anymore. I just read the plot synopsis somewhere, and I'm done.
      I don't know if you've noticed this (but I sure have) - is that 1/2 of the films created today have a synopsis that is so confusing that it's difficult to make sense out of but I can relate to that, because it's hard to write a synopsis when the plot fundamentally makes no sense.
      The last film they made was the LEAST worst film, but again, lot of stuff didn't make sense. The villain in that film could have just asked for the McGuffin and probably gotten it, since Kirk was just going to give it away as a token of peace to another race.
      I just don't care because the people creating this stuff ALSO don't care. At the end of the day, it's merely a product and nobody is forcing me to buy it.
      It's 3 strikes and you're out. It's a 50 year old franchise now. If the movie industry was the way it is now, in 1970, Metropolis 8 would have been in theaters.

    • @lorcannagle
      @lorcannagle 3 роки тому

      @@fuzzywzhe Just because you don't like the explanation for Nero's actions doesn't mean there is no explanation. And like, I agree that cutting exposition from the movie isn't necessarily the best choice, but that's a failure of editing, not of writing.

    • @fuzzywzhe
      @fuzzywzhe 3 роки тому

      @@lorcannagle I mean it doesn't make sense, that's all. It's not a reasonable explanation to explain Nero's motivation.
      Did you see Prometheus where one guy gets scared of an alien body that's been dead for 2000 years, but minutes later is trying to pet some alien snake?
      Just stuff like that ends my suspension of disbelief and it's so common now in modern scripts.
      The writing is just poor. You can blame editing but at the end of the day, the writer's name is on it.
      I'll never see ANYTHING with Damon Lindelof's name associated with it again.
      It's fine if you like these films but to me, it drives me in conniptions of distraction. It used to be on the IMDB you could at least EXPLAIN what was wrong, or get the original script so you could make at least some sense out of the film, you can't even do that anymore.
      I think Hollyweird is finished. They won't take input, they attack the fanbase which is SINCERELY trying to help. I mean, people just give up after a point.
      Make your lousy films and television series, they aren't even worth spending time on, much less paying money for.

    Interesting hearing the millennial's viewpoint on the film. And a non-toxic viewpoint at that.
    My first star trek film was on VHS shortly after it came out, TWOK. My first theatre experience with star trek was STVI, which was huge for me because of the low expectations that STV left us. Generations... well it was a special experience in the theatre because it was essentially an average two part next gen episode. It felt like letting the whole world in on what we as fans had been watching for 7 years. First Contact remains my second favorite star trek experience. If you ask me First Contact is almost as much a departure stylistically to the franchise at the time as Star Trek 2009 would be. But it was universally embraced and enjoyed. The contrast in reactions between first contact and ST2009 is a good example of how toxic the fanbase has become.
    I'm not as fond of 2009 as you are, probably because I frankly am not that fond of the original cast of characters. I may have been weaned on TOS, I grew up in the early 80's watching TOS re-runs. But TNG is where my heart is.

    • @claytonberg721

      I went to the theatre and re-watched 2009 just a few days ago in IMAX. The film is better than I remembered it, this was probably the first time since 2010 that I've seen it. It's far less jarring stylistically today than it was in 09 and as a result it is aging really well.

    Been going through your Star Trek videos and decided to watch Star Trek (2009) as one of my gum graft recovery movies so I could watch this one.
    First of, that opening with the Kelvin...I knew what was going to happen, I know how it makes me feel. I cried. All my mental preparedness and I was still weeping as I watch Chris Hemsworth realize he had to stay on the bridge and, with virtually no hesitation, jump right into the fight. Watching him shoot the torpedoes, prioritizing saving all of the shuttles. The actions are heroic but what really, really makes to powerful is the ongoing conversation between him and his in-labor wife. The build up as they're rushing to shuttle, then the labor pain screams that switches to the score where the music carries the struggle for both of them, then when the conversation comes back. Both of them are so happy for seconds and then those final "I love you"s as it all comes to an end. It is a beautiful moment in cinema. Just, so well constructed. Everything in it works so well.
    26:39 to add another detail for the Kobiyashi Maru, which I only noticed this time around, in the simulation, Kirk has Ahura alert medical to receive the crew and only uses one torpedo per vessel in order to destroy the enemy ships in order to save ammo within the simulation. When it comes to the end, Kirk offers his enemy to be saved from their predicament and then orders Sulu to fire all they have on the enemy ship after Nero turns him down. It's a small thing, but I like the dichotomy between Kirk in a simulation where he has full control versus Kirk in a real scenario where he does not control the outcome.
    28:01 Another detail that is easy to ignore but is mentioned a few times; the actual fleet was away in a different sector ( don't recall the exact name, something with an L) which is why the Enterprise and other newer vessels were sent to Vulcan. Star Fleet sent all available ships in order to assist with a planet wide evacuation should the seismic activity prove to require it. Later on, Spock reasons that the best course of action is to regroup with the entire Fleet in order to combat Nero, while Kirk disagrees on the basis that taking that action would put them to far behind Nero to stop him. This disagreement is what gets Kirk removed from the bridge and then removed from the Enterprise.
    29:13 okay, agree on the big monster thing. I think JJ did mention wanting it to keep the action level high, trying to emulate Star Wars the Original Star Wars' sense of nonstop action, jumping from bad situation to bad situation. Scotty in the shoot actually was what alerted Spock to Kirk being back on the Enterprise, so Kirk had to engage with Spock from a position of disadvantage, creating more tension as to how Kirk was going to convince Spock he was emotionally compromised. And, on that note, Spock's decision to completely remove Kirk from the ship instead of just putting him in the bridge is an illogical decision, which actually fits with Spock being emotionally compromised.

    In regards to the film itself, it's fine - it's fun, it feels like Star Trek to me, Karl Urban's Bones is out of this world, Chris Pine makes a great more introspective and yet more rash Kirk. I like how it is in effect in its own universe so they can play around with the lore and have people in different but similar places. Like the Spock/Uhura romance, it's a new dynamic and deepens both characters - plus its not exactly groundbreaking having a human fall in love with a Vulcan, and vice versa, at this point there's at least twice this has happened, Spock being the product of one of those times.
    I think having Simon Pegg playing a Scottish version of Simon Pegg actually works well for Scotty. Scotty, and I love him as a character and a performance don't get me wrong, was fake as anything. I love the story that James Doohan just thought an engineer should sound Scottish, so put on the accent and that's the character from then on - but it was a very over the top unrealistic performance, almost like Scotty had found out about his Scottish ancestry at some point and decided he was going to sound Scottish. If you'd had someone come in and just recreate the performance, it wouldn't have worked, if you'd had someone come in who was naturally Scottish, that wouldn't have worked either. I think Simon Pegg putting on a Scottish accent, and yet not doing a perfect impersonation of James Doohan is the only way it could have worked. More or less would have both been wrong.
    Lastly, the whole ship sizes thing - I got nothing. That bit just doesn't work for me, and it may be that I'm a stick in the mud. I'm used to a certain scale, and certain progress among the Enterprises. I quite liked that this nimble underpowered ship that used to be the flagship, and main workhorse of the Federation was tiny in comparison to its successors. Now somehow it's bigger. It's one of the things I think Discovery did better, in so far as they had the Enterprise turn up and it was pretty similar to its source, but with modernised touches, which I can accept. Then again, a good retcon to me, on something like this anyway, is that these were always like that, just due to limits of the time it couldn't be shown.
    Overall, I enjoy these movies a lot, and am really hoping we see more at some point, but I feel that as more time passes the less likely the cast will be able to get back together. Though to be fair, they could easily skip ahead a bit, and move the story into the phase we see in the original movies, where Kirk is now an admiral, Spock a captain, and the story contrives to keep bringing the same crew back together, even though many are in different places on different ships. Moving on to a new phase might move past this idea that they needed to bring back his father, or bring in Shatner - which were ideas that were floated that just struck me as trying to find gimmicks to sell whatever story they could find, rather than having a passion to tell a new story.
    As always, great video, and as always sorry for the long reply. Thank you.

Before that I'd only seen bits and pieces. It's interesting the things I notice now, the small flaws and inaccuracies, but also the way it quickly and easily gets new viewers up to speed. Like, Sarek sitting with Spock and explaining Vulcan emotional control early in the film, it's easily the most perfect, succinct explanation of the whole Vulcan deal I've ever heard and I know now for sure why Vulcans never confused me while I watched the rest of the series, because this film already gave me the right grounding. My thoughts on this are similar to what SF Debris said in their review. It's okay. The worst thing about it is Nero had the potential to be the most interesting villain in Star Trek since Khan if you look at the prequel comic. All they needed to do was put some of that in the movie and Nero would have worked. But they didn't. The other really glaring thing about this film is Kirk doesn't go through any character arc. He doesn't change. He never learned any valuable lesson. He broke all the rules with a brash mind, thinks on impulse constantly, and got rewarded for it.

    • @ringodax12
      @ringodax12 4 роки тому

      isnt that the most star trek thing though? Kirk doesn't really ever learn anything until the movies. But even then. Does he really change? He still comes out of almost every no win scenario winning. Except when he dies but then he doesn't exactly learn anything from that. But yeah this was supposed to be a more updated better version so it should have had a character arch.

    • @jarjared3522
      @jarjared3522 4 роки тому +1

      @@ringodax12 1) Kirk in the original series is way more level headed and not so brash or arrogant as presented in 2009. Original Kirk is also way more empathetic than reboot Kirk. Instead of using violation of regulations to maroon Reboot Kirk on a planet to relieve Spock of command on grounds of being compromised he low blows him about his dead mother.
      2) Even if 2009 was going to be a retelling of Kirk's origin he still is nowhere near the level headed version of the character we see in the original series. So the film failed on that front as well
      3) Using a show made in the 1960s with different sensibilities to deflect any criticism of a more modern film in the same franchise is not a logically sound argument.

      With Nero, I think they needed to figure out how to leave the Klingon prison stuff in, to expand a bit more on Nero as a character, and to explain his ship. They could show, tell, or both, but "enrich" some of the story of the villain and they *WHY* of who they are.

    I became a Trekkie at age 11 myself after I saw this movie in theaters in that Summer of 2009 (turned 11 that August), I dressed up as Kirk that Halloween and I still remember the marketing for this movie, the kellogg's cereal badges and shirts (yes i still have them), the burger king toys and glasses (i have all 4 glasses), the playmates toys, the whole 9 yards. This movie inspired my career in the leadership aspects and pursuing your paths in life. I even saw this movie again in theaters a few weeks ago and it still holds up nostalgically.

    I love that movie. I really loved the casting, how the actors sort of echoed TOS actors without outright imitating them. Part of the place it holds in my heart, aside from anything actually in the movie, is that I took my not-so-sci-fi fan teen son who was very much into bass trombone. And that sound track has a LOT of bass in it. My son kept elbowing me at moments of high drama and making me consciously listen to parts of the sound that were intended to be below consciousness, to build drama. So I missed a lot of the dialogue and emotional content on my first viewing, lol. I have watched it many times over since then, but I also bought the soundtrack. Anyway, this movie is very special to me. Thanks so much for this thoughtful review.

    I really love Star Trek Into Darkness, maybe because it was the first Trek film I ever saw in theaters, and it was before I ever watched any of the shows, so it was the first thing about the franchise that I remember really loving. I liked Wrath of Kahn, but at the time it was just that movie my dad really loved to quote. I didn't know much about Star Trek ethos and Into Darkness, I feel, goes much deeper into the themes that I late adored TNG for. Conversely, I had a difficult time connecting with 2009 and I still do. One reason is probably the camera movements. I don't know why, given my love for JJ and his films (yeah I know, my opinion is wildly unpopular) but I hate the cinematography in this film. It is probably one of the things that keep me from feeling like I'm really in the world of the story.
    Secondly, I was one of the five people on Earth who had no idea Kahn was going to be in the film. I was not following any of the press surrounding the film and, given that Wrath of Kahn was one of the films I HAD seen, I loved that character was brought back in a way that reversed the circumstances of the original. Nero to me was so much like Kahn that it bothered me. Same vengeance based backstory having to do with a dead planet and dead wife. I have no idea why I like that less than actually just doing Kahn again, but it did.
    Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I prefer when best friend characters actually are fun to watch together. Example? I love Toy Story 2 and I do not enjoy the first nearly as much. I enjoy watching the characters interacting in a less antagonistic way while exploring space. Ultimately, I love Star Trek Into Darkness and I do not get the hate. (Except the female character issues there's no arguing that). This is a very pointless breakdown and if anyone actually read this all the way to the end, good god. Why? Why did you do that?

      I love STiD too, except for the last 10 minutes of the film. It quite possibly could have been the best ST film ever had they not did the Kirk/Spock reversal and made Spock into some sort of super-Spock. No need to bring Khan into it either, Harrison could have been an augment from Enterprise's Cold Station 12.

I started hearing rumors of a new movie. I was super excited. 2009 rolls around, and I got to see it at the drive in, I sat though Transformers 2 in order to watch it. I was all in for the new film. I bought the toys, had the Burger King glasses (sadly they broke in the dish washer), and went as Kirk for Halloween. I still have all of my Kelvin merchandise. Taking everything into account, the good outweighs the bad. I hope the Kelvin Timeline continues in some form.

I just do not understand your problem with Insurrection. It celebrated ST, I think in a wonderful but maybe lighter way but not that much different then First Contact, which was also great. Ok maybe it didn't fill in any great Star Fleet history but it was a wonderful film. Anyway just had to get that cheering in for one of my fav ST films. Carry on. my grandpa was a big fan of star trek (original and next gen) and he and i saw all 3 movies (of the 2009 trilogy) together and i was amazed and loved the acting of actors and actresses like Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldaña, Simon Pegg, and of course Leonard Nimoy. the most perfect cast ive seen in any movie franchise. the effects and soundtrack really brought me in with its bombastic score that escalated tense moments and made emotional ones better. This is J.J's better franchise which ironically enough he hated doing and the one he loved doing was star wars which is hated. A supposed 4th movie has been in limbo for forever and i would love to see it. I think if come out today would do amazingly well. The problem was it was made during the superhero and blockbuster genre era and everyone wanted to see the same type of movie not something new Star wars was announced to be working on a new trilogy by Disney marvel was at its start to its peak. I think with more movies like this would have done wonders just 14 years later. Also Chris Pine is an underrated actor and i wish he was in more better movies because I could tell hes the only one in dungeons and dragons and a wrinkle in time who has any Carisma and looks like they are trying.

    In regards to the size of Enterprise, I always felt it made perfect sense in the context of the universe. The Kelvin existed in both timelines and that was a big ship. Probably built as a Galaxy Class styled deep space cruiser. Kelvin would be big even by 24th Century standards so clearly they began building them smaller in the Prime timeline. Probably because it was more economical and technology became smaller and more compact... BUT... in the new Kelvin timeline, that ship was wiped out. If it was the size of a Prime Constitution then it would have been obliterated. The only reason why it survived as long as it did was because of its immense size. Survivors come back and report what happens and suddenly Starfleet is concerned about their plans about scaling down their fleet. That coupled with their reduced desire to expand and explore means that you end up with a smaller fleet of much bigger ships. Enterprise was even launched in the 2250's when in Prime it was the 40's , indicating that Starfleet must have gone back to the drawing board at some point.

    One thing I will always love about the 2009 film was the way the cinematography of the ships in space really sold the sense of SCALE of these massive objects battling it out. The only other Star Trek film that managed to do that was The Motion Picture, which I love in spite of (partly because of?) its slowness.
    My only real PROBLEM with the movie was the number of scenes that felt like "roughly inserted action beats for an ADD audience" such as the snow monsters, Scotty in the water tubes, and the "numb tongue" sequence. Otherwise, I felt like it was exactly what the franchise needed, when it needed it and I just enjoyed the hell out of it.

    Yea - 2009 is a great Star Trek film
    For me they really nailed the actors - prior to this film I couldn’t even imagine a new Kirk or McCoy - but they really did an amazing job casting and updating such a beloved cast
    After Nemisis I wasn’t sure what the future held for Trek - ‘It’s dead Jim!’

    The thing I always loved about ST 09 is the concept of the kelvinverse. Its brilliant and very trek. you have a character from a universe like the main timeline go back and just start fucking around with events because he knows what happens. Spock and Uhura have the only blatantly romantic relationship in the series and it isn't the focus and as an aromantic it brings me an absurd amount of joy. Romance doesn't need to be the main focus in every piece of media ever. These movies aren't about some romantic side plot, they're about the story and the action and I love them for it.

There is so much going on in the action frames it makes it harder to follow the flow of events and instead forces the viewer to focus on extraneous details.

While I definitely consider the 2009 movie the best of the alternate timeline, it has plot holes that just can't be overlooked. Aside from the horrible use of simple physics, it takes short cuts to drive the plot forward and said short cuts slap the continuity of the franchise in the face. The idea was a good one but the execution was lacking and sadly it would only get 100% worse then it would just be "eh".

    Love this. I'm such a huge fan of ST-09. I'd been into the TNG-Ent Star Trek era before those movies, but it was the Kelvinverse movies that really got me into the fandom.
    Don't feel too bad about Porthos. Given how long had past, it was probably his great-great-great-grandson or something. He also didn't DIE... He just sort of disappeared. Maybe the Kelvinverse version of "Relics" is about Admiral Archer's dog turning up on the Enterprise D. (Of course, I'm the jerk who turned that dog into a Borg owned by the most annoying woman in the universe, so my opinion is really skewed).
    I love both Nimoy and Peck, but Quinto is my Spock (Okay, all three are Spock because I adore Spock so I don't want to choose, but since I saw AOS before TOS, I'm a bit biased for Quinto). I really like how his version blends the Vulcan and Human sides in a way we rarely get to see in the Prime timeline. I personally headcanon that the Kelvinverse Michael Burnham (because in my head she exists in the Kelvinverse) didn't insult Spock in order to save his life, thus he never cut himself off from his human emotions. The idea of Spock going to his big sister to ask for tips for dating Uhura makes me happy.
    I agree with a lot of your complaints and a lot of your praises. I really think the Kelvinverse movies didn't get a fair shake. Star Trek 09 and Star Trek Beyond are great movies. It's a shame they only did THOSE TWO. **glances around shiftily**

    Why the hate on Into Darkness? I really loved this movie :'(
    It has one of the most beautiful scenes in movie history and Star Trek history and an amazing example of visual storytelling at that (the one with Noel Clarke), and Benedict Cumberbatch may not be "your" Khan, but damn he can act, and he's an effective villain. Marcus was very well cast too, there weren't more plore contrivances than in 2009, lens flares didn't strike me as distracting, and it was again very well crafted. The fact that it acted as a mirror to TWoK (especially visible in the glass scene, with roles reversed and it being not a cumination of what Kirk and Spock had been through, but Spock realizing all they could have had and understanding why Kirk couldn't let him die) sells the fact that they took so many elements from it while the characters are still considerably younger.
    ...But okay, that underwear shot was *tacky*.

    JJ Abrams, otherwise known as "the destroyer of all franchises." Thank you for that genuine laugh-out-loud moment! I hope I didn't wake my roommate.

    I agree the music is fricking amazing! Love it so much! One of the kids at my rink skated to this music & I always pretended to do my choreo, but was skating along! Best music for skating ever! Lol.
    Love the cast too, except for Chris Pine. Not really his fault, but when everyone else is so spot on to the original cast,, he stands out like a sore thumb being so un-Kirklike. Yes, I get he's a young Kirk, but if you have the younger versions of the rest of the main characters be so similar to their originals, yet have your main character be so different, it makes no sense. Do that with ALL of them or not at all. 🤷
    Really hated the rest of the movie too. Loved some individual scenes, but it is a mess. Oddly, enjoyed the last movie the most, although they wasted Iris Elba, like they wasted Eric Bana here.

    This was actually my introduction to Star Trek. So it did bring in this fan.

    At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this movie due to having a laddish tone at the start resulting in gripes & annoyances.
    But the movie managed to pick itself up for me to call it a solid popcorn flick & one of the better Orci/Kurtzman screenplays.

    I don't know if this makes it better or worse, or no different, my understanding about the beagle that was "lost" was that it wasn't Porthos as it was much much later in the timeline, and Porthos sadly would have lived his full life. It's more likely it's one of Porthos lineage, or possibly an entirely different line.
    If helps at all, think of it like this, (and it's how I'd like to think of it) - the dog was lost in a transporter accident. That means the likelihood is that the beagle passed into the Kelvin universe's mirror universe, (I'm assuming it has its own), and upon discovering this darker universe filled with oppressed people and fascist governments, set about overthrowing the regime, and now the Kelvin mirror universe is run by a race of super-intelligent, but benevolent dogs.
    Of course, with transporter magic, anything could happen, and we could find the missing beagle turn up in the main universe in the future, and suddenly Picard has two furry friends, or maybe into Lower Decks, or far into the future on Discovery. Imagine being the temporal prime directive bureau trying to explain how a dog from the past and a whole other universe just turned up and somehow affected the fate of the main universe?
    Yeah, I prefer the mirror universe running beagle personally.
