Just over 2 weeks and 900 miles later with the 2021 Shelby GT500, I thought I'd make an update video talking about some of the impressions and things I learned about this thing. In short, I'm absolutely head over heels in love with this thing! More videos coming soon!
Just to give us some motivation, what do you do to afford cars like this?
People are allowed to say whatever they want about mustangs, but as an owner of one for over 10 years, I never get tired of the kids tapping their dads leg and saying, "look dad, a mustang!!" That's all I need.
🤝🏾🏁
👍 🤙
When I was a kid in early 90's we played the mustang game. See how many 5.0's we could spot. Now me and my daughter play it .
Ended up getting mine 8/25. 1 week later, no regrets. What an awesome piece of engineering.
Just driving around and enjoying the car is cool content man. If you ever go to some shows or something bring the camera along. Enjoyed the video and the commentary, you’re right though, the car world is definitely all about status now instead of enjoying & caring about the cars themselves. Have a good day 🤙
Hey Brandon! Your car is an absolute beauty. I’m looking forward to more content on this beast!
I died at 8:59-9:06 😂 “Jesus!”, pretty much says it all! 🤣
Super happy for you brotha! 👊🏽
Mine is a base model that I bought new a couple of years ago. It's velocity blue with white stripes, recaros and a carbon fiber dash. Love it to death. Congrats on yours and your other 2 Shelbys. 👍
I spent a car payment in gas the first month I had mind. And I enjoyed it!! 🤣
This is a good little series. Congrats on the new ride!
This is such a great video, so in depth with the lil details that 500 fans care about ! Love the price comparison, 100 agree
I’ve owned a 996,997 and 2014 M3. I’d take my GT350 over those cars seven days a week twice on Sunday. It’s a phenomenal car whether it’s a “Mustang” or not
I just bought one today. Great vid on expectations.
The GT500 stands out like no other Mustang especially with the handling package and that fantastic GT3 wing. Great choice picking that beauty. You. Mentioned fuel usage. From an article found on Hot Cars. When flooring a Hell Cat Redeye. You use 1.43 gallons per minute emptying the tank in 11 minutes. I believe that's an 18.5 gallon tank.
I’ve rented one of these on Turo a couple of times. Now it’s my favorite sports car for under $100k. You didn’t mention the handling but that was the biggest surprise to me. With the 305mm front tires it actually has good front grip. Full throttle exiting a corner it feels like supercar levels of performance.
Spot on about it being a perfect daily driver. Car is awesome.
Sweet ! Good luck with her and enjoy !
Just subscribed. Great video and perspective. Your collection is Shelby’s my friend. Wow! ❤
I noticed the German Shepherd first then I saw those really sweet cars. Lol
man... great video and such a sick car. have a great weekend!
Can't wait for the POV videos with this thing. Been looking at buyin a GT500 and now I'm pretty much sold.
Love the cars you make them look good also
I get the same reactions from people about my GT500. I completely agree with your assessment of the car too! Dig it bro. I'm not about "status" either. #ShelbyOwner4life
this things awesome man i just got a seires blue a month ago and i absolutely love the brz a lot
What a nice car & the 10K stripes wow! I have the Oxford White and love it!
If I had the kind of money it took to get a Shelby GT500 just like this, I wouldn't hesitate at all!!!!!!!
you made a great decision, congrats man
Dude, I feel this. I just bought one. Not a big impulse buyer.... and everything else you said. Get delivery 8/24/23
s550 just look beastly yet alone a GT500 - great choice - great car!!!
When you're off throttle and upshifting is all in programming. It has the gear down engaged, so if you tell it to shift up it actually has to disengage a gear and then engage another 👍🏼
that trans is really nice, thanks for the video!
Absolutely love the car 😍 But! BUT!! I would be MORTIFIED to drive that thing in Austin. The land of bumper cars.
Great car, definitely impressed with the gt500.
Great episode and well stated
I’m working on the dream collection too haha. Got the charger hellcat and a Redeye Widebody challenger. Just need the GT500. I’ll get one eventually!
Similar to you I bought my ‘21 CFTP with around 900 miles. I have had the car for 3 weeks and am still running on the same tank, it’s that good (quiet mode, comfort steering). Seriously, I have a wee too many irons in the fire and just have not had much chance to drive it, also it’s still early spring here in WI, so yea…
It won’t be a daily, I have it earmarked for SAAC open track events next year. I do run a couple of other stead’s this year so I am working my way into it. It’s easily physically the largest car I own other than a ‘77 Lincoln MkV, which has its own zip code. I am very happy to have the epoch G6 Mustang as that Gen winds down. I too have looked, and waited until I found the right one for the right price, no regrets (ok its NOT a Heritage Edition w/painted over the top stripes). Cheers, and appreciate the content!
love the vids
I did a review on this car and I all I could say was that I was so impressed with the downshifts it felt like a half a million dollar Ferrari, millisecond downshifts. ALSO I know one currently for sale in LA!
The stripe really does look black.! I like that
That slow to shift up when you slow down is the nature of DCT. It tries to anticipate your action, so if you're braking, it might think you want 4th gear instead of 6th. It makes for odd shift moments like that in your case. Great car! Hope to own one someday!
2:20 in this angle the stripes look black & honestly would look 100x better. Amazing car either way 🔥
Congratulations on that awesome piece of drivetrain technology, my $0.50 worth of what makes great videos that I enjoy watching over and over. Is racing it with other competitive sport/muscle cars, safely of course!
Beautiful car!
Nice collection :)
In track mode the car actually tries to shift softer than in sport mode. It's in the owners supplement videos (can be found on UA-cam) where jeff grauer explains the differences in drive modes and how the dct operates.
There’s quite a big difference between sport mode and track mode when doing pulls. Sport mode has always been slower for me, and shifts don’t seem any harder, there’s just a big pop during the shifts in sport mode. Track seems to shift faster/better
Are the paddles like the redeye when u put it in paddle mode it will still shift at redline on its own?
Im currently looking for a GT500 and was wondering is better to look for a 2014 and save potentially 30000 or spend the 30 and just get a newer one.
I agree with you.I want to buy a car to impress myself, not to impress others, haha 👍🏽
How does this handle/drive vs the GT350 ? Does it drive like a 350 with extra power or completely different ?
Awesome video, really great to watch and listen. Love what you had to say. Buy the car for you, if you wanna spend the money do it, if not don’t, it’s simple
At first, I couldn't believe they didn't offer a stick. After driving one.. No stick necceassry, Amazing car.
Beautiful car. I agree with everything you said, great review
You said one word that will eventually come back and bite anyone who owns a new GT500 long term: "Sophistication". All that tech is wonderful when new. It's when it ages is where all that tech will turn on you. This is no different than any other car sporting a very complex design. Enjoy it for 3 or 4 years then consider unloading it before the problems start to occur. Imagine owning this car after 10 years with all that electronics, wiring, complex engine, transmission and software (imagine what's behind that dashboard alone). People don't realize what needs to take place between the paddle shifter and a very complex Tremec DCT as compared to just having a stick shifter. Plus, being such a low production car spare parts availability will be a problem there are very few parts on the GT500 that will interchange with other S550 Mustangs. Imagine damaging 1 of those carbon rims 10 years from now? That will be extremely expensive if you can find a replacement where chances are you will replace all 4 rims with alloy wheels. If it's damaged in an accident just dismantling it, trying to keep all those parts organized then reassembling the car hoping it all when back together correctly will be a nightmare! There is just too much here that can go wrong as the car ages, just a software glitch can brick the car. The rule is: the more parts on the car the more that can go wrong. This is no GT 5.0 Fox body which I still see on the road after 30 years which can be repaired by its owner in the driveway.
I know there will be a lot of GT500 owners and fans who will be horrified by this statement BUT THERE IS NO WAY GETTING AROUND THIS! Long term ownership trying to keep it in good operating order will be like owning an F-35. If a part under the dash fails, it will cost 1000's just to remove it then put it all back together where you will be crossing your fingers hoping everything will be working properly after they reassemble it. Don't expect it to hold its resale value because of all this has to be takin into account by the new owner. Ask yourself: "would you buy a 5- or 10-year-old 2023 GT500?" It's a shame that car companies have chocked these new cars full of tech that will just overwhelm the owner and even the factory mechanics when it needs repair. Owning such an awesome car but at some point, trying to keep it running will exceed its value is no different than owning a high-end luxury car. On the bright side I'm sure people will buy it after its past its prime where it will be salvaged for it parts which will be very lucrative to supply parts for the few die hard's wanting to keep their GT500 on the road
The reason I wrote this is most people don't consider there is a "downside" to all this. If I had a boatload of money I would buy (or better yet lease) one in a heartbeat and then offload it in a few years. This is an unescapable fact but would be very interested in hearing a response if anyone thinks what is stated above is untrue which would be an uphill battle
Enjoy your GT500, it's the best performance Mustang in history bar none! It's basically a "supercar" you can buy for $100,000
Second time watching the video and gods there's nothing more I wish is to get me a gt500 or even just the gt
Any performance mods coming?
did bro give up on us?
Can it have back seats 💺 options?
Do any of these cars see track time?
morning star!!!! I live there as well!!!
you have my dream cars
1:13
So it has the tech package ?
LONG LIVE FORD ❤
Ford hit a home run with the GT500
I have a white & black stripes, and had a 2021 carbonized grey & black stripes, how much did you pay for yours
Just save the MyMode with track exhaust, track trans, and sport suspension. Instead of clicking multiple buttons
Doesn't it bother you when it tramlines all over the road? I had a camaro 1le and the peice of road before stop lights on the highway would try to rip the wheel out of my hands.
Man i don’t know what you do for a living or how you have all this money but I’m trying to get on this level!
you have the dream collection wish u kept the raptor too😂
A better raptor is coming 😎
Daily driver?
🔥🔥🔥😎
Is this the same guy as TexasPlinking? (May have misspelled)
Seems like a cool car. I’ll be curious if it’s a car that hold your interest long-term. The biggest concern I’d have about the GT500 would be the handling. I know they lean a lot in the corners and it’s just not a great handling car (limitations of the S550). In the end, if I was in your situation (already owning two Mustangs), I would have picked up a ZL1 1LE. I’d just want to expand into something else, plus the 1LE is a cornering BEAST. No doubt, the GT500 is quicker, but I’d just want to diversify my cars a bit more. The ZLE would clearly be a special occasion car, not a daily driver like the GT500 could be. I suppose you may just be a “Ford guy” or “Mustang guy” though.
Also, I agree with your original color choice of green being the most interesting- but red, white and blue thing is pretty cool! For some reason I’ve always hated Kona Blue, it’s just at too dark for me. I remember the first time I saw a Boss 302 in that color with a white roof and disliking it right away. Give me Grabber Blue. Granted I’m not sure how Grabber Blue stripes would look.
Is your fuel economy in the single digits? 😜
Who told you it doesn't handle well because they lied to you. They handle amazingly well. Check out car and drivers hop lap 2021. It was faster around VIR than a Huracan and right behind a 911 Turbo S. So yeah not sure where you got your info but it wasn't correct.
@@predatorshelby5780 the GT500 has fast lap times mostly due to the drivetrain, not due to great handling. The Camaro easily out handles the GT500, and you can go watch videos from people like SavageGeese who will talk about how much the GT500 leans in the corners on a track. They think it’s hilarious. No doubt the GT500 is a great car, and it’s the fastest lap time car on most tracks of the current generation of Pony car (by a tiny margin over the the ZLE). If the ZLE had the GT500 drivetrain though, it would beat the GT500 because the Alpha platform is just better than the S550.
Which brings me to my final conclusion, the GT500 (like all Mustang performance options- PP1, Mach-1, GT500) are overpriced for what you get compared to the Camaro. The SS 1LE and ZLE are performance bargains that cost $10K+ less than their Mustang equivalent. Now you make some sacrifices on the Camaro vs the Mustang (especially on ZLE ride quality), but most people who buy a halo pony car aren’t going to daily drive them so the sacrifices become less important. I mean who really cares that a ZLE has a smaller trunk than a GT500? Is the GT500 really worth $25K+ more than a ZLE when it is only quicker around a typical track by the tiniest of margins? And on a tight track like Streets of Willow, I think the ZLE would win. I guess it’s up to the buyer to decide if the GT500 is worth the extra money. Clearly based on ADMs, plenty of people think it is.

I wasn’t a fan of the new 500’s cause of the “no manual” aspect of them out the gate but after seeing how professionally they behave on the street and how potent they are from a roll and they make power so easily has seriously swayed my opinion.
I do still think I’d rather have a GT350 over a GT500 though.
Eh, if you want the performance, it's all DSG though. While I wish for a gt500, I did buy a new Mach 1. I drove both manual and the 10 speed. Line them up and the 10 speed walks away from the manual. Manual is fun, but if I'm buying a performance car, I'd rather have the best performance possible out of it. That'd be a DSG in the gt500 or the new 10 speed, which is pretty badass as well.
@@lockheedload 10 speed is alright, between the two I’m still going to pick a manual car personally cause that’s just what I like. I get why it appeals to most people cause it’s so dead simple but I’d rather have fun all around and manual provides that more than auto. The DCT in the 500 is a great transmission, but nothing beats hitting a hard 1-2 or 3-4
@@169abr They are fun, for sure. I forget who's channel it was but he said it best, about the Mach 1 anyways... buy the manual if you want to feel like you're going fast but buy the 10 speed if you want to actually go fast. I came from an STI but found the 10 speed amazing. Aside from that, amazing car man!
@@lockheedload that does fit the car well, honestly the Mach 1 is the peak design on the face lifted S550, I have the wing on my 15GT, the car looks super nice going down the road and just aggressive as hell. Coming from an engine where you’re scared to blow it up with Bolt-ons I can imagine this is a great upgrade.
@@169abr lol touche. That STI is a whole other story.
👍🏾
If 5 times to the gas station… sounds like give or take about 13mpg. Guess that’s the price to pay for fun!
How many miles per day do u drive it?
Divide 800 miles by 14 days. Based on his first vid, he had 900 miles, but the dash said 1,700 in this video.
57 miles a day, if averaged. 😉
Get paint protection asap
They’re backed up but I’m already booked for the first week of November
Very informative vid
I’m personally torn between a gt500 or the ct5 blkwing in manual
Once I tuned my 10speed gt the paddles are pretty damn responsive for being a torque converted auto 🤷♂️

My son doesn't care about Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti. Well he does and here in Ireland we get to see those at the cannonball run. But his dream car is a GT500. Over here, a GT500 is about as exotic as a car gets. Even a Mustang GT is more exciting than an M3 or M5 and a 350R is like seeing a Ferrari F-40 and the sounds are unmatched. The most disappointing sound from a car has to be a McLaren. They are fast but they sound very underwhelming
What do you do for a living 😂
That’s what I’m saying, I’ll gladly go work for the guys just casually driving these + their other inventory. Someday.
I stay single professionally
Nice car but that car is NEVER a daily.
im 63 and may grow up some day. NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feet per second not mph 😂
It's good to single. U can spend more money on cars. I had 2005 911 c2 for last 5 years. Have to sell it after having kid. Needed family vehicle. SMH
That car is bad a**
I went from making 85k a year to 120k this month. Although it’s not life changing money it’s time to get a GT500 I want the manual swap done so a low mile 2020 for 65k plus the swap will do. A CFTP is too much to worry about. A little curb rash will be 3k to fix.
