- A gas-fueled drag race for the ages: a Dodge Demon ($109,000 CAD base price when new, $84,995 USD) and a Shelby Super Snake Mustang (~$203,000 CAD as specced, ~$161,000 USD). Both have over 800 horsepower to the rear wheels and a supercharged V8 up front. But what happens when you line up these two American muscle monsters on an unprepped strip? @@Holmesson Mercedes abandoned Chrysler years ago. Other than the chassis of a few cars that Chrysler makes right now, there is nothing left from Mercedes. Hemi motors have always been nothing but Dodge.

What I love about the Dodge Challenger is that it still looks like a classic old school American Muscle car, even the newest Demon!
That is the point. Dodge is not trying to make stripped down sports cars or pony cars out of the Charger, Challenger and Durango. The Super Car Dodge made is the Viper 🐍
Thats probably why Ford said they wont make a GT500 convertible. It appears like twisting itself around the Driveshaft is not an aspired ability.
Funny because vmp performance has been making absolute monster mustangs and I know for a fact this body style can handle north of 1000hp. People twin turbo as well as root supercharge the new mustang gets and make rediculous drag times and street times. There was something really wrong with this car or shotty workmanship
@@hatch450sx3 i mean yeah but as much as I love convertibles no matter how much structurally reinforcement that's in one, its still not structurally sound. And even if you manage to get it to that level, it weighs a bunch. Im not sure about the curb weight of the 2 but maybe it'll have a better chance if it was a regular hardtop.

@@robdempley1633 they said what it was they said it's a known issue with the super snake where they remove a brace to fit the supercharger and the torque from the launch twists the chassis and it breaks Carroll Shelby would've put another brace in cause he made all his cars as perfect as he could

Mad props to the Shelby Super Snake but Dodge hit a freaking hone run with the Demon. What an absolute marvel of a machine. Very reminiscent of the late 60s early 70s when they were unbeatable. Part of why I'm a diehard Mopar guy.

Huge difference from a car put together with big power after the factory and a factory built high hp vehicle... As much as I wanted the mustang to win, the reliability and consistency of the power just isnt there with an aftermarket system. The entire Demon is built to do what it does, from the chassis up
The comparison is suspect. The wrench showing up and the Shelby going limp every other race should not be happening. Something is wrong with that tune.
I had the exact same though. This is a tune issue, even with less torque the Shelly has more power and weighs less. even if it was going to get beat, it shouldn’t get walked like that.

@@VegasRT500 the zr1 is faster same price and much faster on track than both of them. And comes with a 7 speed manual. Funnily enough even with less power than both of them I think it's done a quicker quarter mile time in independent testing.

This just goes to show how crazy the Demon really is in a straight line and a lot of time people forget that that is EXACTLY what that car was built to do. I mean this is even without the skinny front tires and the race gas tune, so it is down 32 horsepower from where it could be and up in weight. Still yet outrunning a very premiumly priced Mustang that I am almost certain is lighter than the Demon. And this Demon is kitted out with features (Sunroof, all of the seats, etc) so it is even extra heavy. This is rather amazing in my opinion.
No one forgetting that this is what it was made to do. If anything that’s all it can do. And the Shelby in this vid needs some TLC before it can race anyone or anything.
Y'know, Dodge doesn't have a reputation for reliability, but if they were able to run a Demon 5000 times consecutively on the strip without a single issue, then that's how you know Dodge put extra special care into the Demon.

What I saw looked pretty bad ass. They're both modified cars. I'm a Ford guy, but I can acknowledge an honest beating. The 5.0 is at a mechanical disadvantage. It's always going to produce less torque when they're trying to keep the hp comparable.

doing a burnout is a very challenger owner thing to do so the tire pressure part was the only thing not normal
actually if youre in anything above an rt most mopar owners will lower the pressures way down and if theyre at a stop light theres a good chance they'll do a burnout if they're gonna race

The owner should take the Mustang to the dyno and then take it back to $helby and get his money back. There is no way the Mustang is making the advertised power.
I mean, for how much weight was added for the convertible... It's probably not too far off. Also, you're losing power on the car trying to twist itself. Albeit, probably only a small amount, but it'd still exists.

There's literally no chance it weighs less than the demon. It'd be at LEAST a couple hundred pounds heavier, but it obviously needs more bracing to make the car not commit suicide lol.

The mustang was the one back in 2005 to bring back classic designs and with it succes made other brands like dodge to bring back the challenger and charger. Overall the mustang pave the way to bring back muscle cars to its former glory. All I got to say is you can hate mustangs all you want if that's your opinion but if you laugh at this joke it's just shows that your not a true car guy that love cars no matter what brand.

I got to drive a Demon SRT once, this one had some work done to it so it was the regular 808 HP you get or 840 for track mode and having slicks and skinny tires. This one had about 950 because the owner somehow fucking slapped a turbo in there and put an aftermarket intake and some other work I can’t remember, but driving a demon is just absolutely amazing, hearing that supercharger and feeling that power just sends goosebumps down your body, when he told me to punch it down the line out of a launch I screamed so happily because it gives you that feeling of HOLY SHIT
11/10 best car I’ve driven, give you such an adrenaline rush

Official quarter mile time from Dodge on the Demon: 9.65 seconds. Real life drag race on Carwow 11.3 seconds. It's impossible to launch sensibly. To achieve the Dodge claimed time you'd probably have to have ideal circumstances like a sticky drag strip, slick tyres, rocket fuel, tailwind and who knows what else

the s550 chassis is limited on how much power you can make with a convertible. hence why there is no gt500 convertible. Thats why im guessing as usual shelby is inflating numbers. without a cage to make it more ridid its gonma twist. strut tower braces more effect handlimg amd some seteuos Have them. Check out can i be frank. an other videos. 5.0 Coyote Mustangs and f150s with just bolt ons suspension tire and e85 tune tune beat hellcats all day literally. Gt500s beat redeys and demons tire for tire and stock a gt500 can get around a track faster than or within a second of cars like Ferrari f8 tributo Lamborghini huracan evo and porsche gt3rs. Thats insane considering it weighs as much as a hellcat which both are only 350lbs lighter than a awd f150 sport. So the chassis suspension amd power of the s550 is an amazing platform but people usually domt upgrade convertibles. 30k you can buy a mustang gt or f150. The stock sealed coyote can make up to 1200whp with just boost and fuel and 60k including upgrades and car/truck and people have ran 7sec (Mustang) 8sec(f150) in the 1/4 mile or just a reliable 950whp and you have easy 8s in amustang gt and 9s in the f150. gt500 starts at $70k and the dct transmission is only good from a roll or on roadcourse because thats what the car was meant for. but 10k of tires exhaust e85 tune and pulley they run 9.5 and faster in tbe 1/4. thats the same as a demon but it can handle and thats actually cheaper than a demon. then ported supercharger or upgraded supercharger factory motor and factory transmission has gotten gt500s down to 8.3 in the 1/4. Think about it Dodge demon drag car 100k with over 100k of mods with only the chassis left from factory Built aftermarket crate motor, gm turbo500 trans aftermarket turbos or supercharger every removable panel and piece replaced with cabon fiber and nitrous and they only run mid 8s in the 1/4. thats $200+ thousand dollars to run 1 sec faster than its factory claimed 9.6. But yet a 30k mustang gt or f150 with a supercharger or turbo added can run those times. go big and build it like you have to build hellcat demon and LS and people are going 6s and as fast as 5s in the 1/4 with factory ford block. This is why a lot of chevy and dodge guys have left and started building fords or pulling their engines and putting coyotes. Fastest charger is a coyote powered charger and fastest demon in low 8s is a demon engine in a s197 mustang. Fastest H pattern domestic stick car is a s197 boss mustang with factory block that Joel steele started by driving on the streets and he was first domestic stick car in the 6s he shifted that coyote to 6.81 in the 1/4. when people get scared that mustangs lose control its usually because the onlder mustangs had a solid rear live axle. With old suspension it made it sketchy. Now these mustang run with and beat supercars on a track so it shows its driver error in a modern mustang crashing because they are top end spors cars for a fraction of the money. But then you get idiots that pay for the Hennessy, Roush, Saleen shelby etc ppl pay 100k plus for these stickers and boosted hp numbers when anyone else installing them parts can make the real 1000whp ot more. You are paying stupid money when instead of this supercharged coyote which you can buy the mustang gt put that supercharger on yourself for 12k shelby charges 70 to90k for stickers stitching in the seat and the supercharger and a few other goodies. and waaayyyy more for the widebody. 200k for a mustang gt hell you can get a gt500 with palm beach dynos cx1100 package. 1100whp tons of cabon fiber low 9s high 8s in the 1/4 still handles and its a 50k package for your 70 to 90k gt500. Thats a no brainer. Half that price call aldoweld or midnight performance and go 7s in a Mustang gt or 8s in a f150. But throttle house will show a shelby but not a aldoweld, midnight performance or a cx1100gt500. Cuz those are the best in the game and nothinh they show ever again tesla bugattis etc will not even beat their f150s
