I got together with Will Ramos and Elizabeth Zharoff from The Charismatic Voice to create the ultimate resource for learning harsh, extreme vocals. This video is a small tip-of-the-iceberg sample of the depth we go into for the full course!
Make sure you join the free warmups course linked above to get your voice ready to tackle proper screaming technique!
I love this kind of stuff because people who don’t even like deathcore, or even any kind of screaming genre can see how it’s really just another way to express your voice musically.
YESSSS
I don’t like or listen that music but i like doing and learning these screams for fun
No deal with a devil necessary!
Exactly. You can at least appreciate the effort that it takes.
@@zichithefox4781yo this! I am just baffled by the kinds of sounds we can make without even having to be possessed!
Can we take a minute to appreciate how much Will does for channels by coming on and talking about what he does. He’s just great at what he does and is a great human being in general.
Edit: holy shit, this is the first time I’ve had a top comment, and 1.1k likes? That’s pretty cool, thank you guys!
Hes one of the first that ive seen who actually really seems to appreciate the position hes been put in and wants to repay the community by helping out with that he can. Most people in his position would charge for most of the things hes done like the camera down the throat video or this video. Also unfortunately this type of music doesn't seem to have many vocalist that seem to be as outgoing as will so we got lucky with how outgoing and appreciative he seems to be and also humble and not money hungry. Its the best combo we could've hoped for.
@@iamdillyj that’s no fucking joke bro. The enthusiasm in his body language is undeniable. I’m so floored that I’m going to see him, and the rest of Lorna, in September. I hope to get a chance to meet him or something just to tell him how much his humility has been noticed, but we’ll see.
@@iamdillyj phil bozeman used to make vids
It's so rare pro vocalists doing this. Really appreciate it
Dude is a legend in the making.
Will is a freak in the best possible way -- I'm not really a huge fan of the genre but his abilities are just incredible. And he seems like an authentically good dude with a great personality.
You are not really a fan of the genre *yet*
Me neither but he has such a likeable personality. The Charismatic Voice did many things with him that were such fun
Exactly my conclusion from the vid.
Had the pleasure of meeting him at a bar in jersey...super chill dude, exactly as he comes across in these interviews and what not
I agree 100%. Not a hige fan of the genre. Saw then a few weeks ago with mastodon and gonira. Few songs I like. He does have some great vocals. Awesome guttural. He does seem like an awesome dude.
This channel is definitely going in the right direction. Keep up the good work, Chris!
*Venus Doom appreciation comment*
The devils highway 😂
Baller ass pfp
Love your profile picture! HIM BABY
@@didyoupooptoday9693 Yeah, Venus Doom is my all-time favorite album.
I practiced a few years to growl without tension on my neck. Now I am using tongue and it made my growl more preetier and professional. Will Ramos is the most relaxed deathcore vocalist ever I seen.
What!? Thank you for sharing that. I tried a different tongue position and just by bringing my tongue back and upwards I found a nice growl that I didn't know I had.
this is legit🔥
I've been screaming for 13 years and it's crazy how I'm still learning new stuff. Wonderful video guys. 👏👏
same my man. I just can never be sure if i'm doing it right. I'm so happy when professionals explain their stuff
2009 i started and sounded great practiced and recorded myself daily till 2011 where i got violently sick and spent years in hospital survived and didn't scream for 8 years and now i have been practicing on and off since 2021 but man its like being sick took away 90% of my former skills and it saddens me cause i could listen to a track and cover it near instantly or at least within a month of practice 😢😢 this is why Will really inspires me cause im sick again and i just like to appreciate the talent he and others exhibit in their music.
@@erikbritz8095 I wish you all the best man
@@ptrekboxbreaks5198 thanx man i greatly appreciate it.
Same, will Ramos is a beast lol
Holy cow - finally a vocal coaching channel without blabla and just getting right into it. And even more important: no fear to try stuff with his voice. this is really motivating and liberating! Subscribed =)
So glad you're here and ready to experiment and experience with me :) ...Thanks for the sub!
There is a culturally significant movement happening here: the vocals of this music style are starting to create awe and curiosity in people. So now the technical skill of this is being investigated-which means it is respected, and not just by practitioners or fans-but it’s starting to catch the attention of the average person. This is really really good for metal! Look at the explosion of technical skill on all instruments and vocals lately… we are entering a great time to love metal.
I was thinking the exact same thing as I was watching this, the metal growl is becoming more accepted in the mainstream, back in ‘the day’ only hardcore metal heads couldn’t handle it. Exciting to see the progression.
I hadn't thought of it that way before. I don't sing or anything, but it's fascinating to watch people make weird noises and be nerdy and passionate about it.
What does this have anything to do with metal
@@RETIREDBUGKILLER it helps bring more attention and acceptability to more extreme forms of musicianship. more people who used to think metal was just power chords and talentless screams, now see that metal has complex structures, and the vocals are actually a skill and not just noise. musicians that are exceptional at their instrument are seeing that metal is the most diverse genre of music, be it a guitarist looking to challenge themselves, or even a full on classical strings musician can find a place in a symphonic black metal band.
more people "getting it" means more future musicians in the genre, that would have never given metal a chance before.
@@corrob okay but like I said, what does “Lorna shore” have to do with metal - this person said “blah blah Lorna shore good for metal”. That’s like saying Burger King is good for the greenness of my front lawn 🥴
I need a full singing course by Will RAMOS!!( I know there will be !)
YEP! For now… join the free course linked in the description. FULL course coming in JUNE
@@chrisliepe will there be a part of it for complete beginners? i want to learn but dont know how to start
@@skooparoonie3202 YES. There is a whole section of the full course for complete beginners!
@@chrisliepe is there a price point you guys have in mind yet?
Just leaving a reply for further notice
Will is a man of the people
Step 1: learn
Step 2: drive to the orphanage
Step 3: *power*
Bro, that cupping the ears thing is wild. I've never heard my voice like that.
Will is a master of his craft, and it's so cool how willing he is to let people know how he does what he does.
Youve had so many vocalists on here. Will is the first you can tell is just genuinely down to earth and has no ego about him. Hes the best.
Just saw Lorna Shore in concert in New Orleans. Will's voice is immense!
I was there too. I didn't expect it to be better than the recorded tracks. Definitely a great show
Chris hitting that 10:00 min mark perfectly with no ad placement. What a statement.
Omg Chris can finally do the nasty noises like i never heard him do before
We did it boys we made him into a monster
hehe... ya getting better and better! Thanks Will!
Not only is Will Ramos a great artist AND a great teacher, but what an all around nice and genuine dude
Just funny how deathcore and metalcore bands are low key the nicest people on music. Never heard of Will and Lorna Shore before but definitely gonna keep tabs on them now. What a legend 🤘🏻
I love when vocalists of different levels bounce off each other. It really shows the full spectrum of practice and progression
Now I know from this that Alex Terrible's screams are mostly without tongue. Thank you for explaining in detail, Will. Really one of the best in the field.
I don’t think I can even begin to comprehend how DIFFICULT it is to do an hour long show, switching from highs and lows, to all these other techniques. I wonder if it feels like a full upper body workout after a show for Will?
Practice makes possible. :) it’s amazing how effortless it looks when will is doing all of this, especially over longer periods of time. He’s quick to point out that he is where is because of consistent practice!
So like every other deathcore vocalist? Lmao.
@@garretts431definetly not every other deathcore vocalist. Sure Will is not the only great vocalist. But there are plenty that arent that good.
I’ve never seen such a talented person who is equally nice. I will watch anything and everything he puts out.
Will is the most charismatic bro in deathcore🤘🏻
Will seems like such a friendly guy.
Will is one of the most "PROFESSIONAL" metal vocalists I've ever seen.
Chris always bringing that good content. Thanks for this, and for having Will on (and thank you Will for coming on).
Lorna shore just has one of the most coolest edgiest vocals tbh, I can’t really see myself being that talented when trying it out for myself lol but it’s really interesting how other vocalists in deathcore bands are able to create they’re own unique tone too. 🖤🤘🏽
Will is so technically knowledgeable in heavy vocals. Probably the best guy to have ever done it. Dudes dedicated to the craft
Weil man irgendwo erstmal anfangen muss? Wie wäre es damit?
Klar man könnte es machen wie in den Niederlande/Spanien und eine Duldungspolitik machen aber, das ist es dann auch nur Duldung und keine legalisierung!
The cupping of the ear reminds me of how a dj has the second channel that he’s going to switch to going in one ear and listening to the set without a headphone in the other ear. They’re using 1 headphone to prep the next track and they’re using the other ear to hear exactly what the audience is getting in the moment
0:10 dude! What does my tongue need to do to create THAT sound! 🤣🤣
Can we all take a minute to appreciate how whenever Will looks at you or the camera his head leans to his right and he has a "would you look at that" expression?
I've watched a variety of extreme vocal videos from a variety of creators and I have to say seeing it in a more conversational format helps the understanding so much more than just assuming something about technique
Awesome! This is great to hear! The whole course is this way... only with three of us :) !!
@@chrisliepe looking forward to it. Keep up the good work, seeing you all come together is epic 🤘
I don't want to growl, I just like watching you fellas do it LOLOL.
This was really fun!
Such eloquence from both of these guys. I dismissed a lot of this metal and vocals thinking it was all post-processed. I was wrong, it's a crazy talent and skill. Cheers!! 🤘🤘🤘
He seems like such a chill and informative dude. Such talent
I've been practicing vocals for seven years now and I learned there could be an entire new level to my techniques. Much apprecation and love!
Will Ramos is a great guy
saw Lorna Shore live at Download23, and then during Parkway's set I ended up fist bumping the whole band. what a guy.
man this is amazing, thanks! ❤️
I loooove when Vocalists vary their frequencies and tones. Not arbitrarily but matching what the song and/or lyrics require. The 1st time I heard a good example of this was Peter Tagtgrens vocals in Bloodbath, Nightmares made Flesh. As he also mixed in these ascending and descending piercing screams along w the varied growls. Highly recommend.
I've been screaming for almost 11 years and I'm still learning! Thanks for the video!
Hey Chris, cool collab, seeing lots of Will around today. Very cool seeing you learn as you go!
Dams, that's so helpful ! TONS of amazing things !
So excited for this guys!
Been screaming for about 12 years and I’m still learning this stuff. Even just new approaches or different perspectives. My inner nerd is so happy with these types of videos.
Very interesting! Thanks for the great content! Collabs like this are always entertaining.
Incredibly valuable content. Thanks to you both!

Absolutely fantastic video, that had to be a blast of an interview.
Chris, these guest appearances mean everything. Keep it up!
I love wills energy and how funny he is 🤘🏼
Absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this video!
Thank you for your doing guys ❤️
I’ve been doing screams for 5 years now just figuring it as I go, but to hear it broken down to science is so much help! Can’t wait to check out the course!
Great video, Chris! Thanks for inviting Will to share some of his techniques. This is so cool for people wanting to learn how to do this properly as well as for fans who are interested to know, "how does he DO that?!" Big ups to Will for being so generous with his time and caring that people want this content when he could keep all his skills and techniques to himself, he chooses to share and help develop other talents for the scene. And as always, thank you Chris, for always providing us with your invaluable knowledge. Much appreciated!
What a great tutorial video 🤘🏼
I love these videos man
everything Will touches is gold...
Loved this! Thank you for touching on some basic yet extremely important things that many beginners have questions about but virtually are never touched upon!!!
Good to see Will! Thanks for the tips Will and Chris!
Thank both of you for making this video!
Fantastic video and Will, seems such a great guy! His enthusiasm, is amazing! 🤩
Aww so heart warming to see this.. Thanks a lot for sharing everything like this.. Will Ramos is wonderfull and so are you,. Keep up the good stuff.
Love how you show technique in harsh vocals. It's allot harder than people think.
These are 💎!!!! Need these tips! Thanks 🙏 so much!
Will is a beast! Love this!🤘🖤
Yeah man! I'm also steppin into my extreme vocal journey, love this for you Chris!! Will is a beast and a chill dude, same with you! Stay up yall ❤🔥
Fantastic voice and enthusiastic way of interpreting what he is doing 🙏
Good stuff as always!
This is fuckin amazing, it's always badass seeing and hearing Will mess with his screams with such ease and I love how he explains things 🤘🏼.
Will is such an awesome and genuine guy. Great vid guys.
luvvit. this guys a legend for me already. love the band too!
Yeah bro. Y’all made this simple. Love it. Keep it up!
Dope video! 🤘🏾🔥
This is amazing. I was screaming along with Will in my garage ahahaha. Seriously tho I love how you’re giving people insight into this style of metal. It’s needed
This is exactly the video I needed. I started learning singing and screaming about 9 months ago, fry screaming was pretty easy to learn and practice but all the videos I saw on growling I never managed to understand exactly what people were doing. This is by far the best video on the subject I've seen and I think it'll really help me get into growling and learn how to practice it and make it my own. I hope you've got more videos planned with Will he's a monster of a vocalist.
I’ve been looking for this exact video, and today it popped up on my feed 🤘🙏
This is really great, thank you so much!
Loved this, Will you are inspirational! Voice of and angel
Yessss! Cupping your ear is super important. I’m 29 now, and I’ve been doing vocals since I was 15. Cupping my ear has vitally changed the range in which I’ve been able to produce. I’ve never seen anyone else do this technique.
Thanks guys
Holy shit I was looking forward to this!
Thank you gentlemen ❤️🙏
Yes yes yes! I’ve been trying to work more on my vocals but I’ve noticed the more I try the more I end up hurting myself. I’m going to be signing up for that warm up course now! This video was awesome and I love Will so much, he’s an incredible vocalist ❤️
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you interviewed all my fave vocalists... only Courtney LaPlante and Vessel left
YES I LOVE COURTNEY
Hellz yeah I'm stoked for this vid ...this guy is beast in vocals ...thank you for this
This is beautiful art I love to watch behind the scenes. Thank you 👍🏽
Fantastic content, you guys make it extremely easy to understand. I remember years ago when I first started learning how hard it was to find good info on this subject unless you ordered Melissa Crosses' DVDs or something lol so again, bravo for being the helping hand that you are today from all of us learners to you
THIS IS GONNA BE BOMB
Thank you guys! You were realy helpful.
Good stuff as always! Thank you Chris and Will!
i absolutely love that the 3 of you have gotten together for this. i followed both you and elizabeth before i was introduced to will through another reactor, TankTheTech, and he is the first harsh vocalist i ever actually enjoyed listening to. you all have opened my eyes and ears in different ways, so this collab is just magical to me 💜
WOW! As a home enthusiast musician who's only just getting to the point of wanting to actually produce music, I've gotta say that open cup thing Will does is incredible. Even just in the last 10 minutes or so I can definitely see what he means regarding your muscles learning what makes the sound you're after with the live feedback. What absolutely incredible advice. And thankfully I already signed up for the warmups as well so between it and the one from Spencer, My confidence in being able to put out some solid work is steadily rising. Man I'm soo hyped for the future. Thank you for this.
INCREDIBLE ❤👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
God bless you two, thanks a lot!
