Harry Potter is not a safe movie for Christians. It promotes witchcraft with is purely evil, there is no such thing as good witches, all magic is evil and the bible is very clear about such practices.
I grew up watching harry Potter movies, and I read the book, my friends and i used to play quidditch... we were in so deep than we would practice those spells, we had our own wands and stuff... we need to remember that these movies are mainly for children, children who still don't have a firm grasp on morals and that which is good in the yes of the Lord, they brainwash you, and send dark subliminal messages. If you are not aware, magic exists in the real world, witchcraft is real and its not sunshine and rainbows, and the practitioners are not aligned with God.
Ask yourself this question, Which part of the movie brings you closer to Jesus Christ and helps you build a relationship with God? If the answer is not clear then it's not for Christians.

Extremely informative. Below are notes I took from the video a month ago.
Let’s talk about doctrines of demons Jk Rowling admits herself that there are real witch spells written in her books. During the time of her divorced on a train between Manchester and London and wasn’t trying to write a children’s book but an adult book and the character Harry Potter just strolled into her consciousness. A lot of parents don’t realize how subtle The power of darkness are. How real they are and how they want their children. Jk admitted herself that she takes dictation; that the words are audibly narrated to her and she writes what she’s hearing. God is always warming us to test the spirits and go to the word. This is obviously coming from demonic spirits. Jk also admits doing sorcery as a child.
Satanisim comes in many subtle. Church father Irenaeus said in the second century that satan isn’t gonna come in all his naked deformity. Who would want to follow him. But he comes as an angel of light and offers powers of godhood. Sound the alarm people.
God is clear in both the old and New Testament about How he hates sorcery.
”“When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.“
      ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭18‬:‭9‬-‭13‬ ‭
My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge
”The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts.“
      ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭9‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭
”Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.“
      ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭
Harry Potter is such a sympathetic character he’s painted to be the hero you fall in love with seems to be a story of good vs evil but it’s upside down because the good guy Harry is using evil to combat evil. And people would say wel it’s white magic and God knows my intentions. There is no such thing as white and dark magic.
Satanist Anton Lavey the Arthur of the satanic Bible stated there’s no distinction between black magic and white magic it’s all coming from the same source.
”But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.“

As a kid, I was not allowed to read or watch HP because my mom had been told that the spells used were real spells. About 7-8 years ago, I moved in with my aunt who was a huge HP fan and I worked at hotel. I was solid in my faith and had been a Christian for about 15 years at this point, so I felt comfortable to take a critical look at it. I found the spells were based on Latin (which didn’t exist in the earliest verses against witchcraft). I also found the magic to be based fully in fantasy, the potions all require some mythically-based ingredients and the closest you get to real world witchcraft/occult stuff, it’s treated like a farce and not something worth your time. I couldn’t see how it was any different than CS Lewis or JRR Tolkien. I understand and respect if parents aren’t ok with their kids reading it and I’m not mad my mom didn’t let me. Now, though, my kids and I are definitely fans and definitely Christian and definitely not into occult things. The messages found there are great.

The biggest theme is self-sacrifice. Harry lives because his mother died for him, and is later told the love that she had is more powerful than magic. Then in turn he himself dies for his friends.
Not to mention, there is research that children who have read Harry Potter have more positive attitudes towards disadvantaged groups. I’d say that’s a win.

Only people that have dealt with the occult, witchcraft, etc, will be the ones that do not encourage movies and books like this. Everyone else (like this guy) either have never experienced any of it, or just do not take it that serious and probably don't even believe that it is real. That's the problem with most Christians these day. They've never experienced the spiritual side of our world.

Same but I’m always leery about those testimonies. I mean, someone who is coming out of an addiction to alcohol might rail against drinking, but does that suddenly make drinking a sin? Nope. People who truly have come out of witchcraft are probably hypersensitive about it.
And then there are those who come out of witchcraft, and they think every single thing in the world is demonic. I mean, I literally had a Christian tell me wearing black was wearing the color of Satan. 😂

Oye, I believe uu. I was 8 in 1998, yet Southern kids seemed to have more
freedom to read Harry Potter, than did Northern kids. In the North, Christian
& Catholic churches, had a firmer grip on some kids' minds, but in the South,
kids had less supervision. The South has certain classier witches, and is the
home of Hoodoo, ( African-American magic, or called a folk religion). The
Southern mentalitys' of, 'read some of a big book, but still get your chores,
and h.w. done., & if your parents go to church, then go, but since you're in
the Bible Belt, you know to not mention Harry Potter at church'. It was that
easy. In the North, more kids had to be aware, of more deceptive dangers.
If I had been 8, reading Harry Potter in a Northern cafe, I would've put the
book away, real quick, in fear that some type of witch had been watching me.
Edit: Plus, I had an adopted Aunt, who bought me the 6th Harry Potter
book, for my 17th birthday. Yet, she was a Christian black woman, & an
English teacher. This is an ex) of how lenient a Southerner can be.

I think it would be a good idea to explore the idea of 'moral panic'. The Harry Potter books and movies caused a moral panic amongst Christian parents back in the early 2000s precisely because of the reasons you both are stating here. I personally think it's good to tell your children to be mindful of what they're consuming and to encourage alternatives. However, if they're aware that it's fiction and not something they're to ever try to emulate, reading the series likely won't turn a Christian child into an occultist, witch, or wizard lol

    • @gordonmitchell8394

A lot of the moral panic stems from the fact that the American publishers changed the title of the book from Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone (an actual piece of British mythical history) to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (absolute nonsense). They did this under the impression it would help with sales. Ironically, all of the moral panic and pearl clutching really did help out.

One thing about growing up in the West is it is hard to get away from Christianity. When it comes to Harry Potter, I recommend reading the books over watching the movies, as the movies cut a lot of the Christianity out.
There is so much in the story, but I'll list a few examples: In the first book, when Harry goes to Ollivander’s Wand Shop, he tries a few wands before finding one that works well for him. Ollivander notes that it is interesting that Harry should get that one (a wand made of holly with a phoenix feather constituting its core), considering that the particular phoenix that gave the feather only ever gave one other feather that was used as a core in Voldemort’s wand (made of yew). This is significant because the phoenix is used as a symbol for Christ on account of the dying and resurrecting nature. This is foreshadowing the resurrection of Voldemort as well as the death and resurrection of Harry. However, Harry will resurrect and overcome death, hence the holly; likewise, when Voldemort resurrects, he will poison everyone around him, hence the yew.
In the last book, around Christmas time, Harry and Hermione find his parents' (as well as Dumbledore’s sister) graves behind a church in Godric's Hollow with Bible verses written on them. Being raised by the Dursleys I imagine this is Harry's first experience with Christianity, though it plays into his sacrifice at the end.
Closer to the time of Epiphany, Harry and Hermione find themseves wandering aimlessly until Snape’s Patronus (Expecto Patronus = a plea from the heart for the aid of a patron) a doe finds him and leads him to a frozen lake. This is an allusion to the story of Saint Eustace, who was led to Christ by a deer one day while he was out hunting.
Contrary to popular belief, Harry does not at first see the sword of Griffindor under the ice, but the Ruby-encrusted hilt (It's a cross). Harry cannot use magic to bring it to himself, so he blast a hole in the ice and dives down to grab it. This is a baptism. And then you have Harry Potter willingly giving himself over to death at the hands of Voldemort, thus robbing Voldemort of his power over those allied to Harry. His last meeting with Dumbledore in King's Cross station (aptly named). His resurrection and final face-off with Voldemort. Voldemort refuses Harry's offer to repent of what he has done and then Voldemort’s death. There is so much more I could go into with the story, but it is a pretty big mouthful for a comment no one is likely to see much less read.
    God bless you all.

But recently I’m reading a book where a person mentioned that God told them that people “don’t even realize they offend him nowadays.” Since a lot of things have been normalized. I’ve realized this is true. From kid shows to kid movies to Rated R movies we see violence, witchcraft, magic, astrology, mediums, alcoholism, cheating, murdering etc. video games too. It’s all become normal. Even artist concerts. It’s “art” or themed. I used to think this but now I see it’s not a coincidence. A seed is planted and we get accustomed to it which makes us offend God. Accepting things of the enemy as “normal” or “harmless” but is very much harmful to our spirit

Harry Potter is fine. As long as the reader/watcher can discern the difference between reality and make believe, why not? Also, there's a piece of advice that I heard on a UA-cam channel where a counselor makes their children sit and meditate after a movie or TV show IOT bring their minds and emotions back to this reality - to have them accept that they're in this world. And I just thought that was brilliant.

I have disagree. Harry Potter does not even hid it, the books and movies are filled with witches and dark spells. Would you let a kid read a satanic book? The fact that the guest said, “If you don’t let your kids read Harry Pottor, your not letting they read good literature.” WHAT???? Good literature does not mean you should read it.
I think we can look at Philippians, ”Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable - if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy - dwell on these things.“
    ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Ultimately truth is more important than “good literature” or “bad literature.”

Dude you’ve got fundamentalist brain. After reading Harry Potter is someone really going to be dwelling on the witchcraft in the film??? And JK Rowling just uses the name whichcraft because that is the word people know. The magic in Harry Potter is nothing like the magic forbidden in the Bible. For example, one spell is cast to ward off dementors (which are basically demons that suck out your souls) literally by thinking happy thoughts. The magic forbidden in the Bible is invocational magic (asking demons to help you). The magic in Harry potter is incantational magic. It can be seen as harmonizing your self with the logos. The magic in Harry Potter is a literary device JK uses to externalize inner emotions. Harry Potter is true, honorable and lovely and all the other things mentioned in that verse and what I dwell on after reading it is not the “whichcraft” but loves ability to conquer death. God bless

The books are more clearly christian, the movies left alot out and got pretty dark.

The key to understanding whether magic inclusion in a story is good or bad is understanding the source of the power in the lore and characters. Do the draw it from the creator? Lesser beings with self interest? Or, like in Harry Potter, it is a power intrinsic to a person that may be used to the moral end of the individual? In Harry Potter, magic is a skill or talent that some are born with and they must make moral choices with that ability. Once understood like this, it make sense

Shalom man of God and many blessings to you and to your beautiful wife and families (personal/ministries).
I do understand where you both are coming from in this dialogue.
And yes, things like "lord of the rings" and "harry potter" do carry lessons about the challenges that come with life, such things like death, which was mentioned in this dialogue.
But we have to also take into consideration how these things are approached and how they are introduced into our personal lives.
    For instance,
Greek mythology is mentioned in this dialogue. A person cannot approach this particular subject from a place of human reasoning. Because that particular level of understanding does not carry the depth needed when understanding things that try to mimic and imitate The Most High's image and His life.
We are responsible for understanding life from the realm of the Spirit, especially when dealing with things that cater to the fallen nature of man.
Greek mythology caters to the fallen nature of man.
This is why it is important to understand the enemy satan and how he operates.
The enemy has used the Greek culture to promote "self worship." And Greek mythology falls into that realm.
In the Greek culture human intelligence is exalted, especially through philosophical studies. The enemy satan is after the mind of man. This is why he tries to entice humankind into embracing human intelligence and human wisdom over the wisdom and intelligence of The Most High God.
The enemy is very cunning in his tactics. And he will use things like Greek mythology and things like "lord of the rings" and "harry potter" to ensnare the mind of man."
If a person is not equipped spiritually and tries to engage in the things you both are discussing in this dialogue they can end up exposing themselves and their loved ones to real encounters with demonic activity and real demonic bondage.
The "lord of the rings" and "harry potter" may have some interesting ways when approaching "life lessons", but there are real doors connected to these works and behind those doors are real demon spirits and real demonic activity.
It is unwise for born again believers to engage in things that host darkness. And even when approaching these things from a position of examination, study, and observation, the believer has to be equipped and developed through real processes with regeneration when being a genuine "watchman" for The Kingdom of God and for The Most High's people.
We have to protect our inner man and our personal space as well as those around us and who are close to us. We cannot take things like this lightly. Greek mythology and movies like the ones mentioned in this dialogue are not innocent. Greek mythology hosts real demon spirits. Every god in this mythology is backed by a real demon.
And each demon has a real focus which is to obtain possession of the mind of man. And when that is accomplished then the soul is obtained.
The enemy mimics everything The Most High does. And we cannot shut our eyes to that truth.
God Bless you both and Shalom unto you and to your beautiful wives and families.

Harry Potter is fine. It's more closer to fairy tale magic, which is heavily laden with christian sub-text. It's actually pretty blatantly obvious.
"True" magic is not like what it is in Harry Potter. Just to give you a idea, saying a prayer is more or less the same thing as "casting a spell". True occult practitioners call upon spirits/gods/principalities to enact their whims and desires in the world. To give them more power.
As Christians, it's "not my will, but yours (God)". which is the main differentiator.

The chief problem is the desensitization. It’s the trivial nature and apathy that is causes. Creating sympathy in the mind regarding themes of magic. In real life, in all instances magic is demonic and rooted in foreign spiritual powers that aren’t of God. As a person who loves fiction I understand the value of story telling and imagination, it’s a wrestle I have as an artist. But because I’ve seen real life repercussions of witchcraft (demonization) it becomes difficult to return to a neutral position on even fictional fantasy depictions. I get it. I still enjoy a lot of fiction, by Gods permission, but some I feel conviction to stay away from because God has taught me a lot about the subject matter. Once God shows you, you’re held responsible for your knowledge.

My siblings and I grew up reading Harry Potter. We all dabbled in actual witchcraft to varying degrees, with my sister now a devout Wiccan. Around the age of 10, my brother had a wiccan book and told me it's the real side of Harry Potter. If it weren't for Jesus, I would've wanted to keep pursuing this path.
Yes, HP is a very well created story that addresses things like death, coming off age, weilding power, etc. But it's not from a godly perspective. I wouldn't say no Christians should ever read it, but read it cautiously, and I wouldn't hand it to a child who can't reason between Christian and wordly virtues.
Lastly, learning witchcraft is absolutely the driving force in HP. In other stories like LOTR and Narnia, there is magic, but it's behind the scenes and not the main point. Just my 2 cents.

And it’s perfectly fine to talk to other Christians about your convictions and why you feel convicted a certain way. But don’t assume that every Christian needs to be convicted in the same way.
Also, a lot of Christians won’t let their kids read good literature. Their own parental skills must be lacking if they think their kid is going to follow every incorrect view they read about in a book. How about actually reading different books with your children, and discussing them afterward? Most parents don’t want to take the time to actually be parents.

It is “Hollywood Heroes: How Your Favorite Movies Reveal God” by apologists Frank Turek and his son Zack Turek. I’m not saying you should believe either way specifically because of it, but it is an excellently written book with great studied, Biblical insight into this. Study, meditate, think. Don’t just choose to believe because of how you feel. Yes, follow the Spirit as you perceive, but as Paul preaches we should not judge others because they may not be convicted by the Spirit for reading it. As far as reading Greek mythology, start studying the late, great Michael Heiser and true Biblical study of Genesis 6, Job, etc. and you will start understanding what Greek mythology is truly about and where it came from. Keep up the great conversations - with humility and love. God bless.

The Problem with Harry Potter is that it is a movie that realizes on sorcery, witchcraft, magic ect ect for entertainment or pleasure, even to the point it basically tries to make the hero to fight fire with fire. Harry potter is a movie that does not consider sorcery, witchcraft, magic ect ect as something that is evil or wrong and that’s exactly why they decide to make movies with this topic for entertainment/ pleasure. Take for instance the movie from Jackie Chan called the drunken master which is about a man who while getting drunk is good in fighting and obviously the movie does not portray or consider drunkenness to be evil or a sin or wrong and that is something that cleary the Bible prohibits and considers a sin. Obviously this movie is fiction but it’s also clear that God does not approve of Christians to take pleasure or entertainment in these types of movies.

The reason why it leads people to Christ is because it literally shows the Bible in a way that is more understanding and leads people to read the Bible which most likely leads them to Jesus. Harry Potter is work of fiction and yes it shows sin sometimes but in the plot people know it’s fake. It doesn’t straight up give reasons to follow satan like how the chosen gives out straight out reasons to follow Jesus showing he is merciful and loving. Harry Potter is really a work of fiction displayed in a different world were “magic” exists. It really isn’t that deep. If you feel conviction don’t watch it because it’s the holy spirt telling you this isn’t good FOR YOU and YOU can’t handle it. • @simonacannizzo1768
      @simonacannizzo1768 5 місяців тому

@itspikachutime5624 I bring Peter Pan up as a topic because there are people who, like the Harry Potter series, like to talk about it being evil and no self proclaimed Christ centered channel cares enough to make a video about those because of so called impact on culture. Funny actually, because Harry Potter was born from the very same place that we get Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland which are stories that have common subject matters How is Harry Potter more important than those stories, exactly? Witchcraft and wizardry are not as obvious nowadays- there is no more beheading of such people so how is a self proclaimed Christ channel talking of HP because of the Witchcraft? Who cares? We are past the period of wizardry/Witchcraft and talking about Harry Potter because of it is bringing witchcraft back into the focus of society, something that humans are physically past. If a Christ centered video wants to address a
specific literary book, don't allow one topic regarding it be the sole reason to make the video. A lot of people watch other fantasy then Harry Potter movies.

  • @davidsmither95
    @davidsmither95 5 місяців тому +5

Some of this stuff that I’m mentioning is the same with the argument with Harry Potter and some of it will deal with me also talking about the satanic panic because it’s actually relevant to these topics
The argument on Harry Potter is the same argument on horror movies. Harry Potter is based on the imagination of jk Rowling. If a Christian chooses to stay away from watching Harry Potter and even horror movies then it should be respected because that is there convictions but also I would like add is that I think we need to stop saying that “horror movies opens up doors to demons” and that’s because it can lead to legalism because it depends on your convictions and that it’s not a true statement at all.

If you have a kid that is into Harry Potter and you allow kids to continue to read and watch Harry Potter or even if you are a Christian parent then that’s fine and some parents may not allow their kids to watch Harry Potter and horror movies then that’s fine because kids should also respect and honor their parents.
I think it’s sad like very sad to see Christian’s attacking each other over horror genre and Harry Potter. I personally it’s a Roman’s 14 issue. Christian’s should respect each others convictions. I personally grew up liking Harry Potter and I do own all of the movies on dvd and part 2 of deathly hallows part 2 on digital (not sure if I still own it on dvd) and I grew up watching horror movies and I still like the horror genre to this day and my favorite is religious horror movies.
Now this is also the same argument over secular music because it’s also a controversial topic. It is something that has divided Christians for a long time. Dungeons and dragons are also controversial due to the satanic panic because both secular music and dungeons and dragons were around during the satanic panic.
The satanic panic happened in the 80s and early to late 90s and the after effects of it are still around today. Back then there were some Christian’s that were against dungeons and dragons, horror movies, rock n roll music, etc. . Today, some Christian’s are against Disney, horror movies, dungeons and dragons, Harry Potter, etc.

I also developed sleep paralysis at the same time in my life. I didn’t really connect the two at the time but I know that it was reading these books that did it. I suffered from sleep paralysis for years until I became a Christian. By calling on the name of Jesus, I was set free. Jesus’ name is the name above all names. Thank YOU Jesus! Harry Potter is witchcraft pure and simple. Keep away from it. Don’t listen to me or this guy who thinks that it is okay to read it, seek the LORD earnestly and He will lead you in the right direction. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 4:5-6.
