    I homeschooled when Harry Potter entered the picture and everyone said it was a great way to get kids to read. I refused to introduce any form of witchcraft to my kids. It made me, and sadly, my kids, outsiders at our church! I don’t regret it. They have grown to be discerning adults.

      Same! I've always thought this, don't give your kids something you wouldn't want them to emulate.. imagine them pretending to do witch craft!

    extremely fascinated by the assertion that "all systems are just trying to find a narrative explaining how they see the world, except us who are actually correct" while immediately filtering the popularity of harry potter through the lens of sectarian disagreements within christianity. like it's kind of ironic that this claustrophibically myopic worldview is possibly exactly the thing that drives people away from church.
    like, there is a pretty stark contradiction here: people go to fan communities because they are appealing and provide meaning, but it's actually not satisfying and "need to grasp more"... but church is failing because it's become "just entertainment" and focuses "only on the benefits of the gospel". in other words, fandom succeeds because it's fun and communal but church fails because it's fun and communal? that's incongruent.

    Watching this video and reading the comments is almost like stepping into a new world, have you people no concept of fiction?

      Did you know many if not all of the spells in Harry Potter are actual spells from real witchcraft sources? Did you know kids read books out loud? Did you know in Leviticus 20 witchcraft was so serious anyone caught participating in it was to be out to death? Why? Because spells are calling on demons. Fiction is the gateway drug into the occult. It doesn’t pass the Philippians 4:8 test because fiction is not true and often leads our imaginations to impure thoughts or towards things that will lead us away from God. Children are under parental authority because they have not yet learned the difference between reality and fantasy. The funny thing about all of the church goers that thought I was being too harsh for telling my kids no Harry Potter rarely encouraged their children to read out of the Bible. I don’t regret ever not letting my children read those sorts of books. I do regret not reading them the Bible more.

    If you are enjoying entertainment that glorifies things that can literally send you to the Lake of Fire... I can't say I love Jesus and then go around and enjoy things that he hates. The only legit power comes from God, the Bible has an entire spiritual world to explore. Why am I going to waste my time exploring darkness? The fiction we consume either tells us lies or truth. I'm not going to sit there and be lied to that something is okay when it isn't to God.

    It’s not witchcraft. It’s a way to cool universe and concept to channel the message of love?

      God is love (1 John 4). Not stories about magicians and witchcraft.

    Witchcraft isn't real. And even if it was, the only thing Harry potter has in common with "historical witchcraft" is the name. It has nothing to do with Faustian bargains, or summoning demons, or devil worship. Harry potter has no more in common with "historical witchcraft" than any fantasy series. But then you would be claim that "all fantasy is witchcraft." I'll bet you're even ignorant enough to call The Chronicles of Narnia or the Lord of the Rings a "problem."

      If Harry Potter isn't doing witchcraft or magic what exactly is he doing? The Bible condemns witchcraft magic and sorcery categorically. You wouldn't say a fictional murder is not evil because it is fiction. What's the difference here with magic?

    • @MattSinz
      @MattSinz 3 місяці тому

      @@JPsalm32 The difference is there is no Devil worship in Harry Potter. The Bible condemns witchcraft magic and sorcery categorically because of it's connection to Devil worship. The Magic in Harry Potter is arcane in nature, not diabolic.

      @@MattSinz There is not such thing as white magic and black magic, or arcane magic and diabolical magic in the bible. The Bible says in Deut 18 magic is an abomination because it's an attempt to acquire and use supernatural abilities in unlawful ways outside of God: 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass[e] through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are [f]an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.

    • @MattSinz
      @MattSinz 3 місяці тому

      @@JPsalm32You're entire point is moot, the magic in Harry Potter isn't an attempt to acquire and use supernatural abilities in unlawful ways outside of God. The people in Harry Potter born born with magical abilities, and the only way that would be possible is if they were granted by God. You can pretend Harry Potter leads to Devil worship if you want, but it doesn't and it never has.

      @@JPsalm32And FYI, magic isn't real, so it doesn't matter what the Bible has to say about it.
