Loved this! Very insightful to hear Todd’s deep background in the history of the internet. Also appreciated the tips sprinkled throughout. Still have about 15 mins to go but I’m glad you two had this conversation.

I really like the part when Todd and Dave are talking about who they ultimately have responsibility for. And Dave mentions that Nebula only makes money when creators make money. Yet, UA-cam/Todd has been extremely adamant that UA-cam recommendations are *not* about what makes the most money for UA-cam.

You know, I'm pretty mad that I watched your 3 hour interview with Thomas twice now, and I never remember you or him mentioning that you had a channel like this.... I had to find you through looking up Todd. But great to freaking see.

To kindof rework a phrase I had into early adulthood. Superstition comes with trust recedes. One thing I always like to see is when the trust from a company goes from "just trust me on this" to general transparency. Posting methodology and future plans to the people it's relevant to should be the floor for any business, it just so happens that the relevant people in UA-cam are creators and viewers. not too many businesses work like that, so it's understandable that it would take time to get here.

The myth, the legend, the boogeyman - Todd UA-cam Algorithm Beaupré.
His bio story was incredible, the guy is passionate and you can see it.
That was an incredibly insightful episode.
I personally encountered issue with my Notification feed, but I already figured out that it's not a fixable thing. Some of it due to limitations some of them just because I have too much of them.

It is good to know that the harmful aspects of UA-cam’s algorithm are due to ignorance rather than malice. Listening to too much music is not harmful to your brain so Todd’s ignorance is understandable. However Todd needs to look up this concept called “addiction” and how it relates to UA-cam/TikTok style shorts. My ADHD brain treats these shorts like a drug and I have vehemently requested that they be removed from my app because I love long form UA-cam content and I need to avoid having my dopamine depleted due to losing myself in said shorts. All of my requests have been in vain.
So if Todd could contact the shorts person at UA-cam and tell them to back off before one of my fellow ADHD addicts snaps I really appreciate it.

Well, of course UA-cam became more open after seeing how the audience began to reach out to TikTok and Instagram where everyone can get views without worrying about tags, descriptions and other nonsense.
And when there is a choice to upload just a video from the phone camera to TikTok and get 1 million views or to spend time on creating more quality content learning the rules, algorithms and theories of how to do UA-cam better, of course the consumer will choose TikTok where everything is easier and the reward is greater.
That's why I think UA-cam is coming out of the shadows and explaining how to succeed on their platform. After all, after some time of trying, if the views will not be at the person he will go where it is easier for him to get these cherished "viewers" that will satisfy his ego, without looking for advice from gurus or testing theories.

Although TikTok only pays out to 6 countries in the entire world. I think creators will stay with whoever they can get paid from

It's hard to dislike youtube as a company when the developers behind the scenes seem like really neat people. He genuinely seems to enjoy his job. Thank you for this discussion. STOP HUMANIZING THE EVIL VIDEO CORP. 😆

i know how it feels when i don't get the blessing of the algo! of course Todd will save delete algo, think audience
what is it over 70% of the views on youtube comes from youtube recommendations?
yet on my case only 41.5% of my views comes from recommendations in the last 28 days (i guess i should be happy it is that high)
When my channel is matching my expectation, UA-cam recommendations cover over 50-70% of the views, last time that happened, it was around Jan-Feb 2023 (less competition)
