Hearing her voice and knowing she's okay is great - and I very much may be subscribing to Nebula to hear her takes again. I really appreciate her insight. So glad I saw this.

It's pretty great over there. They can do a lot more over there without the typical worries of being on YT.
She posted a new video a month or two ago on Nebula, and I swear I got emotional when I heard her voice again after all this time 😂

Nebula is a pretty good service. I would like to see more explicitly political / leftist creatoes there, but am mostly content with what they have.
I'm glad that the youtube algorithm, despite all of its flaws, still knows I am in love with Lindsay Ellis and will listen to anything she appears on.
Lindsay's discomfort with the spotlight is a big part of what makes her so relatable & leads to people demanding more public appearances.
It's truly a vicious cycle.

a broken clock is right twice a day
I spent a solid week trying to figure out why people were mad at her and couldn't figure it out. The explanation just didn't make any sense, it was so minor and taken out of context. Just insanity. Kept thinking I HAD to be missing something. Nope, just crazy people wanting to be mad and making up reasons to do so.
So many other people and channels also made the same joke without backlash
That's just Twitter. It's a dumpster fire. Every time I stumble in there I'm just bewildered by how insane everyone seems.
2 minutes in, I would just like to say that the absence is very much felt and is probably going to be the reason I finally subscribe to Nebula even though I hate subscription services on general principle

This video randomly showed up in my recommended. I had no idea Lindsay had come out with any kind of new content lately. As soon as this video is over I'm going to go sign up for Nebula. I've been watching Lindsay's content from the very beginning, and yes Lindsay, you are absolutely right - it definitely was not your actual audience who turned against you. I can't wait to watch your new stuff on Nebula!!
I really enjoyed Lindsay's Lord or the Rings video on Nebula, it was so well done. I also recently finally read Axiom's End, so well written and captivating. I just picked up the sequel Truth of the Divine and plan to read it shortly. Her take on Sci-fi is refreshing.
my Nebula sub was worth it solely for the sheer influx of joy I felt seeing a new Lindsay video appear after she left yt...her videos have become a comfort to me and I can't imagine a world without her voice in it. Thank you Lindsay for continuing to set the standard for online creators, and congrats on the damn baby!

If you're on her Patreon, she made a deal with Nebula that all of her patreon supporters have access to her Nebula content (only her content, no other Nebula creators), so that's a way to get it cheaper than the regular Nebula subscription :)

If you find another UA-camr who is on nebula, you can find a deal where you sign up for curiosity stream and get nebula for free. The curiosity stream sub is about $20 annually and pretty good on it's own.
Glad to hear Lindsay again and that she's doing well - I have a Nebula subscription, but rarely use it unless a YT video mentions there's exclusive content (YT's content discovery system is much better in general for finding new uploads, maybe this will improve on Nebula with time, hopefully!), but I'll have to check it for the LotR video :)
Have also been meaning to log in to watch Abby's play, if that's up yet. So glad that option is available so I don't have to fly all the way to the TERF Island, lol.
I don't think The Prince is on Nebula yet; I think Abby mentioned that it will be up sometime in 2023? And I feel that; I didn't want to go all the way down to London to see it so I'm so glad she recorded it.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see all the positivity in the comments section. Lindsay was one of numerous FilmTubers (a few others being Every Frame A Painting, Patrick Willems, and Royal Ocean Film Society) who really changed the way I view cinema as an art form, and I really miss hearing her thoughts on the subject. She had come a long way from her Channel Awesome years, and it showed in the professional quality of her post-CA videos. It's just a shame that she got harassed off of social media over an ice cold take on a lousy Disney movie no one cares about anymore. Also, listening to this podcast after watching Lady Emily's excellent The Return of Channel Awesome's Demo Reel serves as a reminder of how badly Doug Walker has stagnated by comparison.
It's nice to get this little peek behind the curtains about Nebula. I sometimes watch and listen to creators and think, "*youtube creator* has a similar kind of vibe to *other creators* on Nebula. I wonder if they will be on the platform any time soon." And now I know that it's a process that takes time and vetting. So they may be on any day now. Maybe sometime I'll see Sideways, Folding Ideas, and maybe even Internet Historian and I'll be able to download and listen to them on my way to work (and maybe at work too)
Anyway, great info and I am very much looking forward to Lindsay's next videos.

I didn't realize she was back on Nebula. That's definitely making me consider subscribing, but my budget is very very tight so I'm not sure when that will be.
On the comments on Nebula thing, I think the other reason that patreon & a creator's reddit get less toxic interaction than they would on say a video is that, those spaces are expressly for that creator and attract that audience specifically and more exclusively. Like, yes, Nebula is a paid service, but it's a paid service for a BUNCH of creators with a wide audience, and parts of that audience might not like the other parts, so you're just as likely to get the deluge still even if it is smaller due to a smaller subscriber base.
Lindsay's postmortem video on Game of Thrones is amazing. I highly recommend it to those who haven't watched it.

Hopefully I can save up some money to subscribe to Nebula for a bit. Lindsay’s critical examination of media always makes my editor heart happy, and there is only so much the rewatches can do. Glad to hear Lindsay is doing okay, and I hope her next book venture goes smoothly!

I know for me any comments about her doing ok was just wishing her well on moving from how public she'd been before and all that. However, I fully appreciate her feedback that being completely inundated by variances and intense 'i miss her i hope she is ok' does end up being what she described. It's one thing to be the commenter and it's another thing to be the one who the comments are directed to even if that are positive. The internet can be a deluge, even if it's trying to be positive.
Man it was nice to hear from Lindsay again, glad that she's doing well. Hey, since she didn't plug Axiom's End, I'm going to. I thought it was pretty great, a compelling action sci fi with aliens that you could care about while still seeming entirely non-human. Consider checking it out!
Sry Dave, I see most comments here are about Lindsay, and this is another one. Great to see Lindsay's name in my youtube recommendations again, and still very much hoping that she can find a way to live with/make peace with/totally fking ignore/open up a gateway and send directly to hell, the army of toxic twitter shitbags who harassed & abused her for no reason, and one day come back and continue making the excellent content that defined an amazing an unique career. I always say - anyone who can keep me fascinated by an nearly hour long essay on fking musical theater has a rare talent for narrative & presentation. Take care Lindsay.

That's not an exploitable human trait at all.
Not to take anything away from the successful nebula exclusive but another big reason for the success is undoubtedly due to it being on LOTR. I fucking love paratext (reviews/analysis) on LOTR.
The thing with Twitter is so many artists have to use social media for their work. They can't just leave. Lindsay should know this since she has an assistant running her social media for her book, but...like. Artists and writers alike can't get their work seen without the likes of Twitter or similar. That's where a large genuine panic is.
Absolutely wild that the other NDA videos are sitting at under 500 views, even the Wendover productions and Anita sarkeesian ones. But then there's this one. Almost at 40k.

It's great to hear from Lindsay but at the same time it's sad that the whole cancelling affair is still so present in the way she is viewed. When it's about someone actually doing reprehensible things I get it but here it's just petty nonsense and hopefully it'll just be in the past for her eventually. That being said I understand why it's still a topic in conversation now. The last "interaction" the audience had with her was her UA-cam retirement so in online terms it all happened yesterday.

As much as I loved "Raya and the Last Dragon" for what it was, Lindsay being cancelled over it was too much and the way she was treated by everyone was too toxic. The people on the left who think are righteous gave the other reactionary side ammo to say "LINDSAY THE QUEEN OF WOKE GETS EATEN BY HER OWN AUDIENCE SHE WENT WOKE AND NOW SHE BROKE" that just made Lindsay look worse and I agree with her that the reaction was because she was a woman with an opinion on the internet. People have proved that many had made similar takes about the film and no one batted an eyes. I admit I don't always agree with Lindsay's takes, but I wouldn't go as far as to ruin her life or harass her because at the end of the day her opinion won't affect my life.
That was so frustrating, Lindsay Ellis got canceled, but not Honest Trailers? When she made that “Last Airbender redux” comment I immediately thought of Children of Blood and Bone, which is certainly not set in an Asian fantasy universe but has similar themes

Gonna throw in a weird perspective - I'm ALSO someone who reads literally every tweet in his timeline and I'll tell you the secret. When you're not a brand, when you're just someone using twitter you can totally just follow your friends and then maybe a few creators. After 15+ years on twitter I'm following under 100 people and most of them aren't brands looking to promote stuff. They're friends form ye olde forum days. I'm off Twitter now, but it never really got terribly bad for me personally because I was using it "the wrong way."
