  • A very popular fish finder in the kayak fishing world, the Humminbird Helix 7 is easy to use and can really boost your ability to locate structure and cover that will attract fish. Here's a quick video showing how sensitivity and contrast settings change what you are seeing on your sonar.

Thanks for the video help. I just purchased a Helix 7. I'm learning but still low on the learning curve. One quick question on sensitivity - I set my range at 30 feet for crappie. Sensitivity set around midpoint. When I am in shallow water (

BillyReynoldsFishing - Understand and agree with you. However, my thought is when you go from say 20 feet of water to say 4 feet, and don’t change any settings, you’re now “crowding “ the shallower water image. IMO - it has to matter. I’ll try it on my next fishing trip. Thanks again for the video. Huge help!!

BillyReynoldsFishing - how do you check to see if a unit has the latest software?

BillyReynoldsFishing - never mind. I googled it and found out what I needed to know. Sorry for the bother. Thanks again.

Sorry Barry. I completely missed this one. I actually had a video made on the update process as well. Glad it worked out for you.

My unit has a setting for the transducer so I can set it up for Di 83/200 . But I don't know if I can use this setting on the supplied transducer, how would I know if I can use that setting?

It's going to depend on the transducer. Best bet would be to contact Humminbird direct or if you can identify your transducer, check the specs online. If I am correct though, the standard transducer supplied with the unit should be the 200/83 transducer. Easy way is to get out on the water and see if it works. Then let me know for sure too. ; - )

My buddy was playing with the settings and now my sonar has pictures of fish instead of the arch feedback, do you know how I can change that back to regular sonar?

Sounds like he turned on the fish ID. If you push the Menu key twice, it should take you to the tabs. Go to the Sonar tab. There is an option to turn the Fish ID on and off under that tab.

@@theoutdoordangler3053 it should to the trick. On the water is the best place to play around with all of the settings. Just remember, it is going to take a true effort to mess any of the settings up to the point that you are more then 3-4 clicks away from resolving the issue, so do some experimenting. Let me know how it works. Good luck and tight lines.
