Finally! Excellent tutorial video for a dummy! However, after loading the SD into my helix 7... Message said "invald" I waited for about 10-15 seconds, THEN, it loaded exactly as you showed in this video. Thank You soooo much
I have the card formatted fat32 and the update is the only thing on it. When I click update and confirm the update it will say “updating don’t interrupt” it then goes to the hummingbird screen that says software updating for about 2 seconds then the system turns off and reboots. Once it reboots it asks me if I want to update the unit over and over again in the same cycle. Any ideas?

It needs to be smaller than 32gb so that you can set the file format to fat32. A 1gb card would be more than plenty, but they're hard to find so use an 8gb or 16.

What could cause this and how do I fix it? I used the 32G SD card, downloaded the software, basically I followed the instructions to the T but it all goes well up to that screen where I have to select No to abort. Any help is appreciated.

Occasionally, if a fishfinder unit loses its mind and refuses to update, it can be the result of corrupted firmware. In that instance, it's best to contact Humminbird support.

Where did you put your 15 amp fuse at? The helix 9 manual says to use a 4 amp fuse so if you use a 15 amp fuse how does that work? I’m sorry I don’t understand how it works. If I bought 10awg wire with the pvc white coating on it where would I put my fuse at?
What are those flat lines running at the top of your screen on the fish finder? Mine have that too. But my other unit just like it does not have those lines.
It's in simulator mode in this video, but those lines at the top are surface clutter. Trash in the water or turbulence can make them appear. There is a setting for how much of it you want to see.
Navionics probably uses class 4 cards to save a couple of pennies per card. Their cards would perform better as class 10. As far as I know you can still use a class 4 card to download firmware if you wanted to, but since class 10 cards read and write faster, they're still the better choice.
that 16gig Navionics chart card... did you freely download the charts? the seller is taking his chart card with him and im trying to figure out how to put maps on it. (helix 5 gps)
The charts will stay on the card. If he's taking his chart card with him, you'll have to purchase your own if you want to keep using navionics. For what it's worth, navionics usually puts their cards on deep discount around February of each year. That's usually when I buy or renew mine.

No. Just turn on the unit as you normally would. Make sure the update file isn't in a folder on the card and that the card is in fat32 file format. If you download the update file from Humminbird in zip format, you'll need to extract it before putting it onto the SD card
@@Lray4x4 ok. That's what you want. Make sure the file is in the root folder of the SD card. That means when you open the card in file explorer you see the file and not a file folder.
When you push in on the card, it will pop out slightly, but not enough to get your fingers on it. I use the tip of a pocket knife to CAREFULLY pull it out far enough that I can grab it.

I do electronics repair on the side, so I have a couple of adjustable power supplies on my repair bench. I just hooked up an extra Humminbird power cord to the power supply.
Ok thanks. I am electronically illiterate. Do you have any advice on running a 4 amp fuse for the helix 9 on a Jon boat and then to the battery. There are no platform on the Jon boat so the wires will just be laying there. I honestly have no clue what I’m doing lol. I try to learn and watch videos on you tube and just get more confused.
@@grizzy7469 4 amp fuse is probably a little small for the helix 9. I went with a 15amp on my helix 7 and ran 10ga marine wire straight to the battery. I connected my Humminbird power cord to the 10ga wire.
When you first turn on your unit, press the MENU button for start up options. Using your cursor button, scroll down to where it says SYSTEM STATUS and press the right cursor. This will bring up a screen showing your unit's information. Look for Software Version about halfway down the screen.
I was struggling. Realized that I had aborted the update twice. Some of the fish I catch are smarter than me. Thanks for pointing out the "abort" selection for me. Feeling dumb right now.
I learned a lesson last year. I bought the Ontario card and didn’t test it before going to Canada. My MN and WI cards worked fine. Canada card didn’t work. In preparation for my trip in May I bought a new Ontario card. Doesn’t work. I have never updated my software. There’s a note in the instructions clearly telling me my general software needs update and then I have to do an update to the base map. Working on that now. Hopefully I get everything accomplished and then I get to sell one gently used Ontario card!!

It's easy to misread that menu. Humminbird really dropped the ball on that one. I'm glad it helped!

It doesn't need to be in demo mode to work. Check to make sure the file is not in a folder on the card. That will mess it up when it happens

There's no need to. Part of the update process resets it to default now. It does it for you.

It's not necessary, but it's not a bad idea. If things mess up you could have to do a factory reset

32gb should recognize as long as it is still in fat32 file format. If it's partitioned as exfat, the Humminbird won't detect it.

Tried everything and when I load sad card unit says sd card successfully encrypted and nothing else.

Yea sir funny thing is helix 9 on front and 12 on rear reading same thing. They are both g4 with less than two years. Thanks for your help

I don't know how to see what version my Helix 7 g3 is running. I have gone through all the menus screens I can see

I followed directions to the t from hummingbird website and my unit got bricked
You need to format the 32GB SD card into FAT32 , NTFS will not work . You're welcome
