    I'm down to this Vibe Shearwater and the NuCanoe Unlimited. I'm leaning towards this because of the Bixpy works so well on it. Do you feel comfortable standing up in it? I'm a little older and my balance isn't as good as it once was.

      I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore and I prefer sitting when I fish. With that said, I find myself standing to fish on occasion and never really have had any problems doing so. I have not fished out of an Unlimited, but I have fished out of a Frontier 12. The Frontier is extremely stable, but for me, it’s a motor only kayak. Best bet is to try to demo if you can. I really don’t have anything negative to say about my Shearwater as an all around kayak though. Seems to do everything well.

    • @BillyReynoldsFishing
      @BillyReynoldsFishing 5 місяців тому

      Good question. This is kind of an oddball situation since I individually marked every stump in that area and some of them are just a couple of feet away from each other. That puts a lot of waypoints in very close proximity to each other so my assumption is that the Humminbird software looks for some sort of distance between waypoints in order for the casting rings to have relevance. Otherwise it would really clutter the screen. As long as waypoints are 10 feet or so or more apart, they show rings. Thanks for watching.

    How deep does the motor sit in the water beneath the kayak? I want some kind of motor setup to run creeks and rivers but I’m scared of shallow areas ruining a motor. A traditional trolling motor is bulky and I like the bixpy, just seems like it couldn’t be used in small water.

    • @BillyReynoldsFishing
      @BillyReynoldsFishing 6 місяців тому

      My transducer hangs over the side of my kayak. When it reads 1 foot, I pull the motor up and go to paddle. Anything over that, and I do ok. With that said, I have hit shallow spots, logs, rocks and whatever else quite a bit. I just kill the Bixpy if I have to and pull it up. Good luck to you.

      That particular jig is made by Siebert Outdoors. It’s called a Megalodon grass jig. The particular one I have on is 3/4 ounce with rattles In chartreuse sexy Shad with a Strike King rage menace trailer. Although the hook is exposed, I use it in pads and grass quite a bit. The design of the jig head along with the grass guard do a pretty good job of keeping the grass away unless it is super heavy. Thanks for watching btw!

    Are you or were you able to get decent fish arches with the helix 5? Any pointers on settings if you were? Thanks.

    • @BillyReynoldsFishing
      @BillyReynoldsFishing 2 роки тому

      Yes I am. So much to consider, but let me see if I can break it down a bit. Keep in mind, in general terms, the Helix is throwing out essentially an upside down ice cream cone with the big end of the cone, which hits the bottom of the lake, about a 1/3 of the depth. In other words, if you are in 19 feet of water, the big end of the cone is scanning a 6 foot circumference. Not a huge area. In 2D sonar, the two easiest ways to “see” the arches once you know fish are there, is to adjust the sensitivity and contrast. Again, in general terms, I run my sensitivity about mid way. My contrast however, I run about 3/4 of the way up. That way it cleans up some of the picture for you and allows you to see more of the “hard” areas, like fish, and knock out some of the clutter. This will get your confidence up once you start seeing what you are looking for. What is considered hard depends on the palette you choose. I use the one where red is my hard color, so when I crank up the contrast, the fish show up as the red arches on my screen. Keep in mind, everything I just said is fairly general, but I think it should get you in the ballpark.

    • @TGS303
      @TGS303 2 роки тому

      @@BillyReynoldsFishing thanks for the pointers! I’ll keep tinkering with it. When I locate fish they’re always just smaller red dots. The bait balls show up good but any fish by them selves or that are paced out show up as smaller dots. Perhaps I need to adjust the contrast a bit to allow it to show the outline around the red dots.

    I have an Expedition, and I've been looking into how to carry a light, 10' sit-in kayak on the factory rack. Doesn't seem that complicated, but I've wondered if it's best to carry it upside down or not? Honestly, if I lay the passenger seat down, there's almost 11' from the closed liftgate to the dash, and it's almost 3' wide between the door and console, for short trips, which is all I'm really planning, I could put the kayak inside and skip any loading drama. Just curious. I don't want to look like an idiot driving around lol.

    • @BillyReynoldsFishing
      @BillyReynoldsFishing 2 роки тому

      If you can toss it inside, to me, that would be the best option. I think ideally, if you can carry your yak upside down, it is probably the best way to do it because it helps prevent some compression to the hull from the roof rack and obviously keeps rain out. However, I always carry mine right side up just because it is easier for me and I haven’t had any issues in tens of thousands of miles of car topping. Even on my trailer I carry them right side up. Good luck to you and let me know how it works out. I also might have some more Expedition videos coming up in the future that you would be interested in, so keep an eye out.
