Tom, hope you never get tired of sharing your knowledge and the same things over again and again. Guy’s like me that only get to fish a dozen times a year need the repetitive content. Great stuff, always enjoy!!
Likely gave him his thousands of dollars worth of fish finder and provided a top quality representative to train him on it. Sponsors are everywhere for a professional like him. Sheeeit, his education to us is very valuable and he gives it to us for free.. Good dude we have here.
Tom, you are by far, the most helpful Midwest fisherman! I love when you piece together what you are seeing on graph, with a technique. Keep up the great vids.
Dude…just bought my first Lund, it’s used 2017 Impact, has 2 hummingbird helix 9s. Down imaging only I believe..your a savage man! Love the videos! Will be utilizing all your teachings! Thank you! Keep posting videos, especially for us beginners!
Excellent video, very informative. One thing to remember about side imaging is that when you set it for distance left and right that distance has to include the depth of the water from transducer to bottom as well. So when they say side imaging covers say 125ft, that includes the depth of the water you are in. In 25 ft of water, it would only cover 100ft either side. Side imaging goes straight down to the bottom, then fans out.
Maybe the best video ever made on using the three different types of sonar. This is the kind of information I have not seen on any other channel and will undoubtedly help a lot of people catch more fish.
Tom-. Thanks for sharing your awesome knowledge about walleye fishing and use of electronics. I watched this video and hit several famous walleye lakes in MN. I saw images on my Hummingbird Helix just like you showed. Hit the spot lock, pitched a leech on a slip bobber and boom- walleye hooked up! This happened repeatedly until I knew just what to look for! This approach improved my walleye fishing immensely.
This video is the most excellent one I have ever seen. I am trying to learn this stuff. You broke it down so even a dope like me can understand it. I am retired now and I want to spend my time fishing in Washington state. This will help me. Thank you.
Tom I think everyone would like to see a video of the actual transducer on the back of your boat while in your garage and where you have it mounted, how you have it level, etc
I'm just now going back in time watching you vids and can't stress enough how helpful stuff like this is. 100% Walleye Now if you enjoy catching walleyes
Wow... great stuff! I'm a newbie to DI/SI technology and I've got a Helix 10 on my new boat. Your video and explanations have really helped me understand what to look for and how to read these screen shots. Thank you!!
Better than the Humminbird seminar I went to. It Was just showing old guys how to turn it on and update. Lol. Didn’t have time to do many more settings. Was like Johnnie candle herding cats. Great job. Keep it up
Thanks for another great video. I have a Lawrence Hook 2 Reveal Tripleshot so I believe the settings should be similar. You’re the only guy upon whom I can trust based on your experience and how many of your videos I’ve witnessed total education and proof in the pudding. Keep up the good work my fishing brother! Hooked us up too!
Tom, I have been following you now for about 3 weeks. Your information highway is a super 4 laner. Enjoy all your information. Warning to the Lindners, they could be in trouble. You are doing a bang up job on providing a lot of us novice and experienced fisher dudes with better and more informative ways to set up Sonar units, types of bait, Just covering everything under the sun and replying to a lot of requests for info. If I could offer one little bit of info, I know it is very difficult to prevent the shadowing on the electronic units and it's darn difficult to find these areas going the right direction, is it possible to get a shade, umbrella, something which would take the glare off the screens. Thank you very much for all your great effort you put into educating us fisher dudes.
Thanks, Tom. I pick up my new Lund Tyee in a couple of weeks. You're helping me get smart fast with the sonar, side and down imaging with my Helix units. Thanks again.
Great info as always! I’m relatively new to using these new sonars with side imaging. You did a great job breaking down what is being seen. Enjoy all your videos and always learn something.
Great video, I learned alot. Never used down or side imaging before but I just got a Garmin with all that stuff, can't wait to use it thanks for the lesson
Just found this. Great info, thanks for doing the video. I have an older hummingbird 997 but the interpretation is pretty much the same. Very helpful!!
Tom your the bomb!! Your side imaging vids are so very helpful!! When one knows how to combine all the tools in the boat right down to the basic hook look out!! Thank you and never stop doing what you do!!
Thank you very much for this, I have been trying to figure out how to use my very expensive fish finder. I saved this so next time I go out it's time I go out it won't be to fish it will just to be expensive just to be experimenting with it. Thanks again
Give us more videos on some of the northern bowl type lakes that a rimmed with weeds as basically the only structure. Settings and reading for both bass and walleye. Thanks.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Tom: Great videos and it is a privilege to watch them. Noticed that you had your side imaging set at 80' for each side of the boat. In 20' of water wouldn't that equate to a true range of 60' on each side of the boat that is actual side imaging? As the water shallows your side imaging comes closer to 80'. This is how it was explained to me by a couple of other fishing experts. Thanks again for the great weekly or more frequent content!
Don't much comment on videos, but for this one thanks for this , very informative on how to combine the the lot together to get better results when targeting, should work even better using this method with lowrance reveal where they have combined down scan and sonar into an overlay so you don't need to split screen. You can also then triple split screen and use side scan at the same time with plotter if so choose.
Thank you Tom for the video. Im just about ready to throw down for a new graf ,your helix 9 would you buy anything different from humminbird or stay with the helix 9...............
Great video! I know it's old so ya may know differently now but that rockpile line you marked would have been closer to 134 foot line than the 160 you said it was. With side imaging the depth is subtracted from the read. So with your depth being 13-14 at that oarticular instance you would need to subtract that from your 80 off each side. Figured I'd stop an let ya know so people don't miss understand the readings on these bad boys!
Hey Tom, great videos can you do a video on the best different frequencies for different depths on the various si, di, sonar and 360? Unless I missed a video on this. Tas.
what an awesome and informative video. My only question is would you use the same settings on your fish finder if you were fishing in a river? or would you need to tweak your settings a little?
Tom, hope you never get tired of sharing your knowledge and the same things over again and again. Guy’s like me that only get to fish a dozen times a year need the repetitive content.

Honestly probably the best video I've seen in explaing how/why to use side and down imagine.
I totally agree

Excellent, really appreciates the settings! Clark
Thank you for a well done video I can live with the glare with the content not sucking.
Stumbled onto wetnaps (the little wipes packed in square foil packages that you get from fast food joints) as the ultimate screen cleaner
I caught a Waleye the other day off shore sucks I don’t own a boat this dude has good content
Awesome video. Helps understanding how to use DI and SI. Keep up the good work!

What an awsome video, my hats off to you !!!

This is correct. It's always depth(black screen) minus total distance on one side.
Now I see why your slip bobbering is so effective.... the clarity of the gen3 side imagining makes it easy. Mine is nowhere near that clear.
Thank you for sharing!!! Great tips n tools of the trade!
Very good. Great. Keep it up. 😎
Great video, super informative. Exactly the information I was looking for!
Great info. I really like your videos, this is the type of information I was looking for. Keep up the good work!
i love this video. you've helped me so much. I cant thank you enough
Your timing is perfect. I literally bought the Helix 9 yesterday and powersports is rigging it this week
Excellent teaching video!

Your videos are great, helped me a ton. You ever fish bemidji ? what MHZ range do you run on your sonar, wide narrow or full?
Excellent video!
Another great video!
