Matt Cameron is on drums. Yes one of the greats of the 90's. He was Soundgarden's drummer with Chris Cornell. Now he is Pearl Jam's drummer with Eddie Vedder.
Alice in chains got to be next and then you will have the whole picture of grunge's inner soul and probably the best 3 vocalists and bands from the 90's
Don't forget Shawn Smith (Brad/Satchel). Sadly Eddie Vedder is the only one still alive, but I am eternally grateful I got to experience them all before it was too late.
@@JenniferGlatzhofer so sorry Jennifer...just watched it. Great, thanks so much. Try Dinosaur Jr...green mind album. Eddie Vedder's admitted inspiraton. Pre grunge but you will realise the connection. Thank you for your reacts.❤
Temple of the Dog is a tribute band to Andrew Wood. Wood sung lead vocals, and wrote songs for a band called Mother Love Bone. He also shared a Seattle apartment with close friend Chris Cornell. Wood tragically overdosed on heroin in 1990. Cornell wrote these songs as a way to cope with the death of his friend. Since Mother Love Bone broke up following Wood's passing, former members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament formed Pearl Jam along side Mike McCready and Eddy Vedder. Cornell brought Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, and they, Gossard, Ament, and McCready set about recording this album.
You should definitely check out Chris Cornell's cover of Nothing Compares 2U if you haven't already. It's recorded in a radio station with just voice, acoustic guitars and cello.
Eddie Vedder was living in San Diego at the time He was in Seattle rehearsing with his new band Mookie Blaylock (later to change their name to Pearl Jam), he accompanied some of his bandmates to a rehearsal for a side project they were working on. A tribute to the lead singer of the band his Rhythm Guitarist and Bass player had been a part of and formed his current band in the aftermath of Andrew Wood' Passing Chris Cornell was trying to sing both the upper and lower parts but it just wasn't sounding right. On one playthrough Eddie Vedder just stepped up to the mike and gave Chris a look and sang the lower parts. It was magic. This was the first recording Eddie Vedder ever sang on. Chris Cornell became sort of a mentor to Eddie, they had a close relationship. Nobody ever talks about Grunge Drummers Matt Cameron, Sean Kinney and Dave Grohl.
I was just about to comment on how Ed stepped in to help with the lower parts, but you beat me to it! Also, Ed said this is such a special song to him because it was the first one he ever recorded (as it came out before the Pearl Jam stuff).
Great Reaction. I was reading through some of the comments, and would say Stone Temple Pilots is a must in early 90s Grunge/Rock Era. A few other pearl jam classics "Better Man" "Alive" Yellow Ledbetter" (personal favorite) "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter"
That's Matt Cameron on drums, great feel and musicianship, love his tone specially. He was the drummer for Soundgarden until they "broke up", then became the drummer for Pearl Jam and when Soundgarden came back he was actually playing for both bands until Chris passed away
Matt Cameron was the first thing I loved about Soundgarden when I first discovered them in 1989. Although I didn't know that Chris Cornell wrote the drum parts for the first songs I fell in love with. Because Cornell was the drummer before he became the singer. But Matt is still my favorite drummer when he plays in Soundgarden. Every member of Soundgarden contributes in ways that just make it so beautiful to me. This was my favorite reaction to this song.
Matt Cameron is on drums. At the time, he played for Chris's band Soundgarden. He now plays drums for...Pearl Jam. The rest of the players on guitar and bass are all members of Pearl Jam, as well--Jeff Ament on bass, and Stone Gossard and Mike McCready on guitar. Couldn't call this a supergroup when it was recorded, because Pearl Jam weren't even really a thing at the time. Album wasn't actually released until after both groups had become a hit as Seattle grunge blew up. A&M Records realized what a unique gem they had on their hands and put it out.
Temple of The Dog the super group of members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam and Mother Lovebone. I am a 30+ year card carrying member of the Grunge Era. I was 16 when grunge took off in 92. I can remember exactly where I was standing when I heard Pearl Jam for the first time. I was on lunch at my high school and we were waiting to have to go back to class my buddy called me over to his car and played Evenflow by Pearl Jam. It was almost a religious experience for me. These bands played the angst ridden years of my high school. I still listen to all of the Grunge bands daily.
Yeah... supergroup but before 2 of the 3 were formed (iirc) -- amazing that two of the best vocalists of their generation were together before either hit it truly big.
Also RIP Chris. He like a number of the other grunge greats (Layne Staley, Scott Weiland etc) gone far too soon but left behind one hell of a catalogue.
Great reaction. So many fantastic grunge and grunge-adjacent performances out there. Mad Season was another supergroup and I'd definitely recommend their official video of Long Gone Day, which has a similar mix of great low vocals from Mark Lanegan, and the typical powerful vocals from Layne Staley. If you haven't done Pearl Jam's EvenFlow then that's a good one to see a more aggressive side of Eddie Vedder's vocals. Love Hate Love live at the Moore is another great one that really showcases Layne Staley's vocals.
Eddies got some balls 🤘🏻I’m pretty sure the TOTD album was his 1st professional recording session & it’s with f•ckin Chris Cornell ? At his peak 🖤he would howl
I was so geeked to see you were going to react to this one! I almost predicted the look on your face when Chris opens up his first high note. This song is so beautiful. On this same album, there is a song "Call Me a Dog" that does a great job of capturing many different tones in Chris' voice. The emotion that comes out in that song is epic. So, if you feel like it - that might be a fun one for you. Thank you again for your fun and intelligent reaction. Your smile is the best. Stay awesome!
It should be illegal to write and perform a song this good. It’s simply not fair on every other song ever created. God I miss Chris Cornell, there isn’t and never will be, anyone like him.
I know it will be on your list, but you must react to Jeremy, the music video version. Do a little research into the song beforehand and then see if it doesn't break you. Challenge accepted?
Great group, you should check out another “super group “ from grudge called Mad Season which features Layne Staley from Alice In Chains and Mike McCready on guitar from Pearl Jam. Their song River of Deceit is excellent.
I think this great ‘90s rock track has held up very nicely all these years later. It helps that Chris Cornell wrote and sung it with Eddie Vedder, two of that era’s and that area’s biggest icons and vocalists. A rock team-up for the ages. For Chris to just go for high note after high note like that. His upper register was made of steel. Great selection from truly great artists.
If you really want some vocal duet contrast with Cornell that works an absolute treat, check out when he appeared on Alice Cooper's track Stolen Prayer. It's brilliant.
Welcome to the delicious brilliant sounds of Chris Cornell. Everyone is going to tell you Say Hello to Heaven, or Audioslave (also Cornell) Like a Stone or Cochise, or Soundgarden (also Cornell) Rusty Cage or Fell on Black Days or Outshined or Black Hole Sun. Or his solo acoustic version of Nothing Compares 2 U. I can't argue with any of that, he's brilliant in every band and there are tons of reactions and analysis to all of those. For something different that truly is from his absolute gut and heart, check out the 2010 performance of When I'm Down live at the Troubadour. He's a little older, his range is not quite as high, but the performance is a gut punch and his emotion, along with his vocal prowess, are on full display. I love every note the man ever sang, but this performance is something special.
Chris's screams are amazing, but if you really want to be blown away then react to Alice In Chains - Love, Hate, Love - Live version. Layne's voice is incredible.
Urgent! You watched Spritbox, you watched Jinjer, now watch them both together doing Circle with me, who knew you could hear women do to wildly different screaming and singing styles, so 2 women, 4 voices, 1 song. a must watch of these metal queens. i would 100% watch that! keep up the good work. I love this song, this was the song that got me into choir, my tryout song. very sentimental.
You have to film a Mike Patton reaction. Specifically, Faith No More on Jay Leno 1992 with performances of both Midlife crisis & I'm easy. You'll be astounded by the different vocal styles he has in his 50 million other music projects. He can do rock, rap, soul, italian opera & has one of the widest vocal ranges. You won't be disappointed.
Temple of the dog was formed for one reason to come together and make one album for their dear friend Andrew wood who passed away after Chris left it became pearl jam Chris returned to sound garden
Great reaction video! Would love to see you react to 'Deadhead' - Live at Royal Albert Hall by Devin Townsend and 'Words Darker Than Their Wings' (also live at Royal Albert Hall) by Alter Bridge - both incredible live vocal performances!
I love your videos. They are so fun to watch, and educational too. Drums are Matt Cameron, of Soundgarden, and currently the drummer in Pearl Jam. My favourite drumer. He's just amazing. Go and listen to Soundgarden's Jesus Christ Pose or Like Suicide. It's nuts how good he is. Edit: or even better. You really want to listen to Jesus Chris Pose, because that song is amazing for the vocals too. Well, the whole sound is great.
So I’m no singer by any stretch of the imagination but I am a linguist and I’ve always thought that the modification of certain vowels (lowering of high vowels, smoothing of the “eye” diphthong etc) and that famous “r-colorization” (perhaps more accurately a “centralizing” or shifting of vowel sounds toward the schwa or “uh” sound) associated with grunge vocals evokes a certain un-pretentious, working class aesthetic to the North American ear. It’s almost certainly completely unconscious, but I do think that aesthetic is consistent with the ethos of the style at that time.
If you watch Chris belting, he does a very strange thing with his tongue to shut off the sound. I'd love to hear an expert's break-down on him and his singing mechanics.
How come EVERYONE reacts to this album from 1991 and forgets the whole album is amazing. React to Reach Down. Great guitar, AMAZING vocal solos in the middle. Studio version
The best voice of the grunge era, if not ever, is Layne Staley from Alice In Chains. Do love hate love live at the Moore and down in a hole from mtv unplugged, and would?

Temple of the Dog - Say Hello To Heaven. Best Chris Cornell performance ever.
The live version is as good as the studio one ua-cam.com/video/SXOzGY46In0/v-deo.htmlsi=__b3m15s_FT8xrLR
i'd go for beyond the wheel in 1990 or 1993 performance
You have to react to Temple of the Dog. "SAY HELLO TO HEAVEN" live at the Moore Theater next.
Definitely needs to watch this performance. It's amazing
Not just that song. The Alice in Chains performance afterward may have been Layne's best live show.
