Another song from Temple of the Dog you should listen to is Say Hello to Heaven.
8000% yep
I was about to suggest that song and saw your comment. It's well worth a listen.
Call me a dog is Probably the best song on this record. Why this is the only video for this record makes no sense.
That could be one of the greatest vocal performances
No one! " sings like Chris Cornell". RIP 🙏 Chris
Chris Cornell - Nothing Compares to You
He does an amazing cover.
thanks
Definitely the best
Say hello to heaven by the same band. It's their most heartfelt, soulful song
Eddie was hanging out at a rehearsal when Chris was working through this song. Spontaneously, he just went to a mic and began singing the lower lines. Chris said that made it feel like a real song. There’s also an awesome live version out there, when Chester Bennington joined Chris onstage to sing most of Eddie’s parts. But because of Chris’ very broad range, he hit both the lowest and highest notes of it.
This is a great demonstration about how singing backup can really highlight the whole vocal performance. So many songs succeed because of great backup vocals.
Mother Love Bone Documentaries are all over you tube. you should check some out. According to one or two. Mother Love Bone was the original grunge band. Chris Cornell, and Andrew Wood were roommates trying to get signed in Seattle. That was their connection. Stone Gossard, and Jeff Ament were members of Mother Love Bone. That after the news of Andrews death, went on to help form Pearl Jam.
This was Eddy’s first music video. He didn’t really know how to lip sync yet. So they told him to look off at the horizon, and contemplate the breadth of his domain.
Beautiful song. I love it so much that I did a karaoke to it a few years back. I asked any dude to come up with me to do Eddie Vedder’s part & one dude gladly jumped up with me. Such an emotional, sweet song….we were both in tears at the end ….RIP Chris Cornell 💔🤘🏽💔🤘🏽💔🤘🏽💔
Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder GREAT VOICE 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥
No solo just vocals. This was supposed to be a throw away song but formed Pearl Jam instead and became a hit
No solo just a really long, cool outro.
@@robbob5302 Absolutely
The drummer for sound garden back when the movie singles and this song captured the early 1990s
YAY!!! One Of My ALL Time Favorite Songs!!! Just Beautiful! RockON!!!
This was an anthem back in the 90's right when the grunge scene was beginning to explode. RIP Chris Cornell
Temple of the Dog is made up of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam members, and was a project done by those close to and in tribute to Andy(Andrew) Wood; lead singer of Mother Love Bone (MLB), who died. Chris and Andy were close and two PJ members were in Mother Love Bone: Stone Gossard (guitar) and Jeff Ament (bass). There are a good number of MLB references here, including the name: Temple of the Dog. It is a line, second line, from a really good MLB song: Man of Golden Words. "Say Hello 2 Heaven" is another good Temple of the Dog song.
Finally... Thank you for explaining it well
Say Hello to Heaven is another great one from this group.
My favorite song on the Album is Reach Down. There are extended guitar solos and Chris’s voice is just very pleasing to hear.❤
One of my all time favorite songs
Back in the 1990's "Hunger strike" from Temple of the Dog for me was so real...I am from Serbia 🇷🇸, and this song was, and still is, one of that speaks to me...Thank you for your reaction, and: Pearl Jam..Dark Matter❤❤❤
This received more attention in 1992 after Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were swinging. I was there and remember thinking it was new but was before Pearl Jam & Soundgarden so most people I think believe it was after.
How could you ask for more than to have a Grunge supergroup with members of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Mother Lovebone. They were extremely close friends til the day Chris passed away. I’m a 30+ year car carrying member of the grunge era. I was 16 years old when one of my buddies called me over to his Nissan 280 ZX and played me Evenflow by Pearl Jam and it honestly changed my life. I still listen to all of the Grunge bands and can remember exactly where I was when I hear them for the first time.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time. Total banger.
Made you think 🤔 loved the response ❤masterpiece
If you want to hear Chris at his absolute best and showing off his full vocal range, please listen to Slaves & Bulldozers by Soundgarden. I guarantee you'll be impressed.
My buddy and I were full on metalheads in 91 and he won this cassette at some contest. We listened to it and was like, this is pretty mild, lol! It wasnt awful but way lighter than what we were jamming. He recognized Chris from Soundgarden because Soundgarden toured with Faith No More and Voivod on their Louder Than Love tour. Which is straight bad ass! Anyway....awesome reaction guys!!! Matt Cameron, the drummer, was in Skin Yard, then Soundgarden, did this, and later joined Pearl Jam. Awesome drummer!
I wouldn’t call Eddie’s voice as powerful in the sense of power. Eddie is impactful and therefore powerful but Chris is the powerful one. It almost sounds like Chris is 10ft from the mic bc otherwise he’d overpower Eddie by so much. Love this song so much. And your reactions are great. Love it.
Pearl jam VH1 Rock Honors The Who. they Cover Love Reign O'er Me and The Real Me by The Who. Still the greatest covers and the greatest 'TV' performance of all time.
This song about something so deep and profound
I saw Pearl Jam and Soundgarden at Lollapalooza 1992 in NJ.
that was you ?
Black days by soundgarden is very sexy song with Chris vocals imo
How can you not know this song
Rusty Cage is my all time favorite by Soundgarden
chris cornell was also kead singer of audio slave.
Please check out Chris Cornell singing Like a Stone with his band Audioslave. You've heard him in Soundgarden and now Temple of the Dog so check out Audioslave. Audioslave is just the former Rage Against the Machine with Cornell as the lead singer instead of Zach de la Rocha.
Say Hello To Heaven. Powerful , deep and highly emotional.
Chris Cornell was already a legend with Soundgarden when Temple of the Dog was formed as super group.
He couldn’t have been too huge.
It was recorded shortly after Andrew Woods death. And Wood and Cornell were still roommates when he died.
Cornell may have been a local legend.
@@robbob5302 I guess if you were a metalhead then, you knew Soundgarden. Soundgarden was out on tour with Voivod and Faith No More way before Badmotorfinger came out. and they were on fire before the other 3 bands. There is a book all about it if ya wanna check it out.
Chris is pure perfection ❤
By far the best album released that year and a stellar debut album. It is an absolute gem of a 90s grunge rock album, and previews the sound of Pearl Jam's classic "Ten" debut album, the following year, one of the top 10 debut albums of the 1990s. Tragic that t was just a one-off album tribute to the death of Mother Love Bone lead singer Andy Wood. One can only wonder how amazing a 2nd or 3rd albums would have been.
Spoonman official video 🤘
There was a guy who died who was a huge influence on the grunge movement....
Andrew wood......
This whole album was dedicated to him....
As well as a dozen other songs by different bands
🎶 Stardog Champion 🎶 Mother Love Bone became Pearl Jam
Yes, what this guy said! ^^^
That whole album is fire
I was lucky enough to catch these guys live before Chris passed. They only ever played 10 shows.
Amazing and iconic.
Great song! That entire album is a Seattle banger and worth listening to, every single song has impeccable vocals and chops from that awesome band, young and ready to kick the world's butt! Try Reach Down from it, a truly epic jam full of great guitar and a band really feeling it. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
Times of Trouble is another great song. this was a great album. also please check out Mother Lovebone. that's where it ALL started.
Slaves and Bulldozers by Soundgarden. Chris had a 4 octave range and he's also in Audioslave, you should check out Show Me How To Live.
“You’re not grunge unless you’ve got a stye in your eye”
- Edward Louis Severson III
Loud love shows off his vocals and listen to just breathe from PJ
As a born and raised Washingtonian elder millennial.. Chris’s voice was the best voice to rise from grunge to his solo rock and especial Audioslave super group! Best super group ever!!
5:42 just a few comments on your channel. Im only subscribed to about 20 reactors. It seems you guys aren’t super comfortable talking in public in real life.*BUT* your back and forth is phenomenal. It almost sounds staged, the ways you guys fling the conversation back and forth. Like its practiced/rehearsed. I assume its not because I always assume people are being honest. If its true that you are slightly nervous speaking in public, I wanted to congratulate you on such a successful, enjoyable channel. Keep up the good work. If you’re not nervous, I’m sorry, I misinterpreted some facial expressions wrong. Please forgive me, but you still deserve mass respect for such an engaging fun channel!
And final comment I always give people whonhave such incredible chemistry: Stop robbing the world of well-parented children!!! If you cant have em, adopt em! The world needs more good people, we have enough good pets! Or both is even better!
React to Temple of the Dog "Say Hello to Heaven " live at the Moore Theater next. It's a must.
you should do some Mother Love Bone!
Sam and Phil The lead singer of Mother Love Bone Andrew Wood overdosed and use to be Chris's roommate and to mourn wrote some songs and the rest of Mother Love Bone heard about it they asked to play them. Chris brought in Mike Mcreedy on guitar and a no name singer stopped by and helped sing it. Eddie Vedder Mike Mcreedy and Mother Love Bone went on to form Pearl Jam
Listen to the song Loud Love, from soundgardens album louder than love. 1989..
Early journey had two singers. Check out their hits… Feelin’ that way / Anytime. Vocals are Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry. 2 songs but often played together as 1, as they do blend.
Chris was writing a tribute album to his late friend Andrew. Pearl Jam who just formed brought Eddie into the studio and him and Chris connected and he was asked to sing as a welcome the club type thing. It wasn’t by accident or anything Chris had mentioned that he wanted another singer to sing with and Eddie volunteered
yes it was.. Chris tried to sing both parts and couldn't. Eddie saw and jumped in..... Totally by accident.
Eddie just standing there in the weeds
I recommend the song from TEMPLE OF THE DOG - SAY HELLO 2 HEAVEN LIVE THE MOORE THEATER, Cornel has an angelic voice in tribute to vocalist MOTHER LOVE BONE (Andre Wood), very impressive. Thx u!! 🔥🤘
The story that I’ve always heard is that Eddy heard Chris struggling with the song, and showed him how to make the song work.
Chris then refused to do the song without Eddy.
Luv luv luv this song
Fell on black days by Soundgarden is great!
This is the first pro. recording Eddie Vedder ever did.
...I am not sure at "what stage" Pearl Jam were, at this time, exactly
...but Eddie V. had not begun recording with them (and I don't know what stage of development the songs from Ten were in, at this point.).
Chris Cornell had decided he needed to honor and pay tribute to his friend, Andrew Wood
who had been the lead vocalist of a band called: Mother Love Bone
- Andrew passed away from a drug overdose and many of the remnants of his band would go on to re-form as what was, now, about to become: Pearl Jam.
Cornell & Wood shared a great deal and were very close
...And the Temple Of The Dog project was a way for Chris to honor and also to mourn his friend.
...if you've heard Cornell sing, he has a lot of power in his voice and, also, tends to be known for his higher register and falsetto stuff.
While recording this song ["Hunger Strike"] he had written the song with a stronger baritone element to it, that he wanted
...but in the studio, Chris was finding he had problems delivering the correct feel and tone (or maybe: the feel with the tone he had decided was necessary.)
...basically, he wasn't getting the low parts right ...and was feeling frustrated.
Eddie happened to hear some work or some scratch tracks and thought: I could probably help him out with this. 🤷🤷
...and (although being EXTREMELY insular at this point!) ...he spoke-up to Chris
...and Chris (having failed numerous times, already) felt like: "sure" "why not." "Let's try it."
The result was what you hear
and: although Temple Of The Dog was shelved/kept on 'the back burner' for a few YEARS
...and ONLY released to the public based-on the success that both of the members' "OTHER bands" [Pearl Jam (primarily) and Soundgarden] were beginning to garner!
...so: when they rolled out "Hunger Strike" it was an instant hit.
...but. yes: it was Vedder's first professional performance.
...and it is, actually, one of the weaker songs on the entirety of the Temple Of The Dog album!
[There are MANY better compositions ...and equally-if-not-MORE heartfelt performances on it!💜💜🔥]
...Interestingly, also: Eddie Vedder never, actually, knew Andrew Wood AT ALL!
...however Eddie's emotional empathic nature and personal travails of the time, helped him, deeply reflect the correct emotional aura and parameters for what needed to be reflected.
Powerful and heartfelt.
Nothing less.
[Cornell will bring you to weeping with some of his vocals on this album, though!
🔥]
Also: "videos" (as a rule!) are STUPID.
They, generally, distract and remove from the music and should be AVOIDED, overall!
🤘🤘
hit the music!!!!!!!
We lost the freedom of expression and passion of music that was the late Sixties and early Seventies as entertainment faded into the big hair and makeup of the Eighties. I was exuberant to see the grunge movement of the early Nineties bring real emotional music back to life!!! Unfortunately, I'm now waiting and hoping for it's return.
If you want to react to another Chris Cornell off this album the first track "Say Hello To Heaven" is excellent.
Say hello to heaven is the best song on the album by far
You should check out a song by Mad Season featuring Layne Staley called River of Deceit.
That entire album is unfuckwithable
Check out Eddie Vedder "Society" it's from the the soundtrack to the movie Into the Wild.
Not sure when they recorded this but when it came out Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were already huge
Yeah. This is considered a supergroup. This entire album is amazing.
They finished recording TOD in December of 1990 and the album was released on April 16, 1991 (just four months laters). Soundgarden was already pretty big, but Pearl Jam was not. TOD was recorded shortly after Eddie Vedder moved from San Diego to Seattle to join the former Mother Love Bone and become Pearl Jam. The Hunger Strike video, however, was not released until April of 1991, a year later, and by that time Pearl Jam WAS becomeing huge.
Soundgarden was national, but not huge. Pearl Jam was barely forming...It was a nice gesture from Chris to include new kid to Seattle Ed Vedder in the song. Was released in April 1991... Pearl Jam's debut Ten was released in August of the same year. It was also released before Nirvana "Nevermind" (Sept 91) and Soundgarden "Badmotorfinger" (Oct 91).
@@dougman23 I stand corrected. Thanks for the breakdown.
This band here TotD became Pearl Jam except for the drummer and Chris ofc
If you guys didn't already do say hello to heaven.....
Let's do it
Always think of Silverchair TOMMORROW.
Still love Pear Jam ALIVE, guess I always will.
❤
the missing soio was Chris Cornell's voice....ha
I love Eddie Vedder's voice but Chris Cornell is a vocal god!
PEARL JAM, SONG "DO THE EVOLUTION " IT'S AWESOME AND A POWERFUL MESSAGE TOO. HAVE YOU REACTED TO "JEREMY " BY PEARL JAM? THE UNCENSORED MUSIC VIDEO " JEREMY " YOU MIGHT CHECK OUT THE MEANING OF THE TRUE STORY. AWESOME REACTIONS GUYS!! 😊💗🤘✌️🔥
Say hello to heaven!
Not an acoustic intro, just a clean (somewhat) electric.
Say hello to Heaven. Album version
People used to give Stone and Jeff crap about being in Pearl Jam and not being punk, lol! They were like, we were in Green River in 85, then Mother Love Bone, then this, and then Pearl Jam. People are goobers sometimes, lol!
😎✌️
One of those repetitive songs that still just gets better and better as it goes. Another banger that is similar is Tears for Fears - Shout
Soundgarden- Slaves and Bulldozers
I am waiting for epic history tv napoleon serie'reaction plz
Pink skies by Zach Bryan
Eddy Vedder wasn’t even supposed to be in this song. He just seen them struggling in the studio and jumped in.
Haha absolutely not true
Chris Cornell don’t struggle my friend

Alice in Chains - Right Turn Chris Cornell and Layne Staley together
Soundgarden was formed in 1984. Pearl Jam in 1990. Hunger Strike was released in 1991. Through radio and MTV I think North America was given both bands before they knew this even existed. It's so easy these days to Google and find anything. Back in the day an album might be released on the west coast and not get any air time for a long time. I love that these guys had a message beyond the music. You dont find that enough in today's music.
Chris was also lead vocalist on solo work and for Audioslave. IMO the best vocalist of my time and top 3 ever. These guys didn't get credit for being able to sing. It's nice to see them get recognized.
TotD came together before PJ. Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament both from MLB formed PJ with Eddie and Mike Mcreedy. Check out the UA-cam Professor of Rock has a video on this. It's very good
Had to cut you guys off at 4 minutes because you saiid you did your research but clearly you did not . This Entire album is because they were all mourning the death of the singer of Mother Love Bone, and best friends with Chris. Mother Love Bone went on to be PEARL JAM...
Pearl Jam & Soundgarden were both established bands when this was released. Temple Of The Dog was a supergroup combining both bands for a tribute to Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. The guitarist & bass player were from Pearl Jam as well. The drummer was from Soundgarden.
Released... not made. this was before PJ. The 2nd guitarist and bass player was from Mother Love Bone. They and Mike Mcreedy with Eddie went on to form Pearl Jam...
@@stevenseul361 Mike McCready on guitar & Jeff Ament on bass. Matt Cameron on drums.
I cant stand eddie vedder or pearl jam but this song Slaps
Hey guys!! There was a band in Seattle named "Mother love bones". The singer died. So when they were looking for a new singer, Eddie Vedder, from California showed on. So they made this album to test Eddie whith Cris Cornell. After this, they became "Pearl Jam". Greettings from Argentina. Sorry for my English
Nirvana's Nevermind album, this song, and Pearl Jam's TEN were the first big steps into making "the Seattle sound" or grunge a major force in music. There was a huge cultural shift suddenly with this and the movie Singles in 1991. Instantly the hair metal bands disappeared overnight.
I heard it was like an audition for the lead singer for Pearl Jam. If so, Vedder hit the ball out of the park.
For me Chris Cornell is second only to Steve Perry.
I hate react to people who don't know the story behind temple of the dog
First
You chose hip hop over this. Laughable.
They didn't know any better. Instead of laughing at them why don't you embrace their journey now...
