Call him Layne Stanley one more time.....
Its Staley.
OMG! I know, right!😂
Thank you… so annoying
Layne "Morgan" Stanley from Alice in Change, here to tell you how to get the most out of your mutual funds 🤣
Also Layne wasn't nearly close to Chris as a singer.
@@Beluga_Too I prefer Layne to Chris when it comes to Alice vs Soundgarden, but it's the opposite when it's Alice vs Audioslave.
74 years young Grandma who still listens to her Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Sound Garden CDs.
Right there with ya love! 😀
you're awesome
Your grand a a women of culture all I see..
Don't forget STP
Love ya lady! Keep rocking
Cornell's voice was touched by God. A true one of a kind talent.
Yeah his voice is amazing, but you should hear Jeff Buckley’s voice. He sounds like an angel.
A great song, but "Say Hello To Heaven" off the same album is perfection
My favorite Temple of the Dog song. Top 10 all time for me
@@cbdawg4242 Mine too, almost hurts to listen to now.
Facts...RIP Andrew Wood
Absolutely 💯
Yesssss
Temple Of The Dog was just a one off band that did one album. It was meant as a tribute to Andrew Wood, who was a singer in a few different influential bands in the early Seattle scene, mainly Mother Love Bone, that died from a drug overdose, and was Chris Cornell's roommate and best friend at the time of his death. Chris wrote a few songs in tribute to his friend, and wanted to put together a group, on the side from Soundgarden, to record them, and approached Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Mother Love Bone, who were in the middle of putting together their new band, Pearl Jam, and already had hooked up with Mike McCready (Pearl Jam). Matt Cameron, was the drummer from Soundgarden at the time, and later after they broke up, he then became the drummer of Pearl Jam. So, Temple Of The Dog, was basically just Pearl Jam lead by Chris Cornell. Eddie Vedder wasn't really part of the group. He had just come to Seattle from California to be a part of Pearl Jam. So, he just happened to be there, and when they were working on this song, Chris was going for a sound, but having trouble finding it, and Eddie jumped in to make some suggestions, and Chris realized that what he needed was Eddie, but he's only on this one song. Eddie Vedder has talked about how when he first came to Seattle, he didn't really no anyone, outside of Pearl Jam at least, and Chris befriended him, and invited him to hang out, made him feel like part of the scene, and was there when he had nobody and needed someone.
Also Kevin from Candle box too. No wrote Far Behind
Eddie Vedder / Pearlam has covered Mother love bone - Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns several times. These conserts shows Andrew Woods influence for the whole genre. Its amazing song and for me Mother love bones Mother love bone album is one most remarcable of that era.
Eddie actually sings backing vocals on a few songs on the album.
I think Chris and Eddie became roommates for some time after that (not sure, but think a heard it in some interview way back), also thanks for remind me of the history of Temple :)
Layne and Chris were actually really good friends. They were all a big circle of band friends. This album is a tribute to Andy Wood who was a singer for one of those bands after he passed.
'Mother Love Bone' which included many of the members that would go on to Pearl Jam, just to complete your thought :)
AIC's song "would" is a further tribute too. The band was Mother Love Bone and temple is some of the surviving members after Woods death.
Andy Wood was founder of grunge

Also, Far Behind by Candlebox
It's far too uncommon that a bunch of guys who were supposed to be rivals would get together for the remembrance of a fellow musician who missed out on fame. They did so at the height of the movement without egos. She should also check out another Grunge supergroup, Mad Season, that does feature Layne Staley and the great Mark Lanegan as vocalist.
Thank you! I know it was a slip of the tongue, but youve given me the best way to piss off a few of my friends now.
"Layne Stanley from Allison Change."
Gotta love Layne Stanley from Alice and Change.
That era brought us some amazing vocalists. not flashy, not over the top. just pure music. RIP Mr Cornell. good morning miss! have a great day!
Yeah, and the sad part about it with that era , and that as they called grunge sound more than 90% of the bands no longer have their lead singers, because they have all passed away and one way or another. Very sad
The whole Temple of the Dog album is a killer! If you would like to hear one of the greatest rock and roll voices of all time at his peak, you know what to do haha... Rest in peace Chris Cornell! Terribly missed.
Cornell could sure scream and Eddie's tone was second to none.
I prefer Eddie's tone as well.
A song about the intricate notion of becoming famous. Taking the money of the record company while knowing you’ll be stealing the money of the young fans who don’t have much money but will do anything to buy your record, that the record company will make so much money off of! Rest easy Andy, rest easy Chris. I am so grateful I was alive for you to share your genius with! 💜💜
no it's not
@@cloudnurdz6331 i agree, thats not what this song is about!
Thought it was about not feeling guilty about cashing advance cheques when you know you're not going to sign for a major label.
All these years later and this song still gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
Say Hello to Heaven from the same album really shows off Chris's range and overall talent.
The best hidden gem of the 90s
One of the greatest albums of all-time. The whole album is GOLD.
I recommend Chris Cornell doing "Nothing Compares to U" live on Sirius XM. Such raw and emotional ability on display.
Two of the best voices ever
You would absolutely love the band Mad Season Layne Staley and Mike Freakin McCready's ( from Pearl Jam) side project, it was Mike that got these awesome guys together. One awesome album, the song "Wake Up " is a good start. Awesome reaction Ray!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
Another band created to help someone with addiction. The concert at the Moore is a fantastic thing which happened to be captured on video.
Don't forget Mark Lanegan (RIP) from the Screaming Trees on that album.
@@isajmody2344 and Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees on drums 🥁 🔥
I’m pretty sure this was Chris” thing….not Mike’s. Every song is written by Chris, sang em all. Maybe together? I never heard of Mike doing anything other then playing guitar 🤷♂️
I'm clean every day since 1996...SO FAR...but Mad Season's *river of deceit* will punch my psyche repeatedly wherever I hear it...and it it's one, I listen and sing along EVERY TIME.
But it takes me right back to that time on the cusp of leaving the life, versus the last draws of remaining there until oblivion...
That moment frozen forever FOR ME, in MY LIFE, is still visceral & nauseating & exciting & near-suicidal every time I sing it out. But, to this point, I've never bought about ticket to ride the Dragon. I would be hell beyond all suffering, and a heaven that I won't wake up from. Period.
So, to paraphrase another contemporary, Layne Staley, "I Stsaaaaaaaaaay away!"
I believe the only studio recording with Layne Staley and Chris Cornell singing on the same track is ‘Right Turn’ off the Sap EP.
Both their vocals are ridiculous!
One of the finest collaborations ever.
Andy Wood, the legend… that’s why this band was formed as a tribute to his life. He helped launch the Seattle music scene and Pearl Jam is basically the second coming of his band with Eddie Vedder replacing him as lead singer after he died. Growing up during this time (as a late teen) was so incredible.
This was basically Chris Cornell's project that he enlisted members of Mother Love Bone to play on. Andy Wood was the singer of MLB and Chris's friend who died of a heroin overdose. A lot of the songs were inspired by him. Of course the rest of MLB would go on to form Pearl Jam.
"Say Hello To Heaven" is another great TOTD song
Chris Cornel and Eddie Vedder, just has to be absolutely amazing! RIP Chris 😢.
Yeah it was a ‘Supergroup’ and what a great one it was!
Great song, great reaction!
This is the soundtrack of my youth as a western Washingtonian. This was filmed (mostly) at Discovery Park in Seattle. Such nostalgia.
Young lady you are taking me back to my high school days! I was sixteen when the Grunge Era dropped. I still listen to all of them to this day! What better could you get than a super band of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Mother Lovebone?!
Probably only Mad Season... They even surpassed my favorite band since the night I saw them open up for Van Halen in like fall of '92, Alice in Chains, obviously...
Definitely heard Chris loud and clear. Eddie, too, for that matter. These guys and their bands were the musical leaders of my generation, usually referred to as Gen X. They crafted all of this incredible music for the rest of us to grow up on. Chris in particular was just a powerhouse voice. His entire career has vocal bangers.
All of these guys were friends blowing up the Seattle bar and club scene in the late 80s before hitting it big in the early 90s, well, except Eddie, who was just arriving while this album was being made. It was a tribute to Andrew Wood, vocalist of Mother Love bone, and Chris Cornell's good friend and roommate who passed away early in 1990. This supergroup brought together Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard who were part of Mother Love Bone (and right after this, Pearl Jam) Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden, and Mike McCready, who along with Eddie Vedder, would complete Pearl Jam's lineup for their debut album. This is the only song that Eddie contributed vocals on as (so the story goes) Chris was struggling with Hunger Strike as Eddie was just feeling his way around after just arriving in Seattle to form Pearl Jam with the others. Just like that, this song turned into the most amazing duet with two male leads that I've ever heard.
If you want to try another supergroup from the same era, you need to listen to Mad Season. In '94, this brought together Mike McCready again, with the bassist from the Walkabouts, the drummer from the Screaming Trees, and... Layne Staley. They released the LP "Above" in 1995. The entire album is great, but if you want specific tracks, "Wake Up" "River of Deceit" "I'm Above" and "I Don't Know Anything" are all fantastic, but that's almost half of the entire album, haha.
A tribute band created by Chris; it doesn't get much better than a duet with Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder. RIP Chris- a beautiful soul and a voice that is greatly missed.
Great reaction! Both have unreal voices. Also, his name is Layne STALEy, pronounced like the word stale with an e on the end. There's no n there. Easy mistake to make though.👍
Thanks. I was going to let her know too. 👍
Chris had pipes from heaven!!! Keep resting easy brother..we miss you🤘
I remember when this album came out back in the 90s. So powerful, so passionate, so haunting.
Great duet with Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell Eddie has a great low voice mixed with the insane high ranges of Chris Cornell's voice the two are magical in this video Chris Cornell had another performance which is even more insane with his range the song is called Say Hello To Heaven
Hell Yeah - I love those grudge guys: Layne Stanley, Eddie Sweater and Chris Cromwell
Ok well done
it's a universal song that everyone sings the chorus to on thanksgiving day
Layne Staley.😉
:)
The performance is more impressive when you learn two things: This was Eddie's first pro recording, and that Eddie was a last second addition. Chris thought the song needed another vocal, and Eddie was in town getting to know his new bandmates in what was originally called Mookie Blaylock.
Thank you for doing this video Ray. It's an important song! And one of the best songs ever made. RIP Chris, Layne, Scott, Andy and Curt.
you missed Chester. he was really close with Chris and his family and a hell of a vocalist with songs that helped a lot of people through their tough times
Kurt
While not Grunge, the era... I'm adding Dime and Vinnie to the list. Rock In Peace!
Dang, I think we might have to add Prince too, even though I never cared for his music. And Adam Yauch... the list is getting too long and the old-heads that grew up on it are next!
"Lane Stanely from Alice in Change" LOL that gave me a good chuckle. This and Say Hello 2 Heaven from the same album are 2 of Cornell's best songs. Vedder is a great vocalist in his own right but I swear Cornell had the soul of a black choir woman trapped in him. He was an incredible talent who left us too soon.
Love that Layne Stanley. Chris Cornwell too.
That's Craig Cornwall, mister!'
I am so fortunate to have grown up in the 90 when Chris and Eddie were first coming out. I remember clearly the day I brought a Pearl Jam Ten CD to music class and played it for my best friend John who would later play guitar in a band we formed. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were such huge influences to us as young musicians. RIP Chris.. You're loved and missed.
Would by Alice In Chains & Far Behind by Candlebox were also tributes to Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood.
Mother Love Bone was so good! This album is a tribute to Andrew Wood. Their lead singer who passed. What a scene up in Seattle back in the day. So glad I'm old enough to have lived it and still enjoying the sounds it brought. This entire album is epic!
Lane Stanley from Alice in change was hilarious
Put aside the whole "Stanley" instead of "Staley", great reaction as usual.
Another great reaction. This song is so simple, yet so powerful. They don't make music like this anymore. RIP Chris Cornell. 2 thumbs up on your take on this.
Chris's pipes got you scratching your skin. Can relate.
Those six men in that video, and the one the album is honoring, have done more for my life musically then I can ever even attempt to repay,
Gotta do "Say Hello 2 Heaven" Live at The Moore. Chris's vocals are insane on that song.
I don't think there's another video that conveys the overall mood of the "Seattle sound" than this one. The light house, the ship on the Puget Sound the bonfire on the beach, boots, jackets, hats, plaid flannel shirts .... Eddie sporting the classic shorts over long underwear look.
There is a video of them playing this live on stage.
Eddie's now the last grunge standing.
I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today!
I saw Pearl Jam on LOLLAPOLOOZA 92 with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Soundgarden, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill…
grew up listening to these legends all my life and still I get chills every time when I hear those voices that are complete masterpiece and they still blow me away.. and the way people knew how to write and say things back than.. It will never repeat ♥ RIP Chris.
Listen to all you can find from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Chris Cornell solo, Audioslave, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains :) it's the best musical and cultural education :)
Chris also sings with Layne Stayley on the song Right Turn off Alice in Chains' ep Sap. Two of the my favorites along with Maynard James Keenan of Tool (and a couple other bands) Maynard and Layne also sang together live a few times.
That’s vocal perfection!
2 of the best voices of my generation (X).... Rest in Power Chris, having seen you w/ Soundgarden live at Lolapalooza in '92 will always be a highlight of my life, as well as Pearl Jam live in '95 w/ the Ramones...
I think this was filmed on Bainbridge Island, in the mid 90s, when*t to see a band called Jamblia, who were Cris*s sisters and they did a version of this with Cris in Bellingham Wa, great show.
Layne Stanley from Alice in Change is great.
I would be lying if i didn't let out an audible, "ugh," to hear that Chris sounded like, "Layne Stanley," from, "Alice in Change." I stuck it out though. Very appropriate reaction to Chris' vocals at the end.
No one sings like you anymore
RIP Chris ❤
Eddy said once that this was the first time he’d ever heard his voice on a record!
Those two together was like peanut butter and jelly it's so good
Layne Stanley from Alice in change sounds a financial planner with a great voice
It’s not Lane Stanley. It’s Layne Thomas Staley, that was the singer from Alice In Chains.
This album was the first introduction of Eddie Vedder. Pearl Jam's debut wouldn't come out until a few months later. Soundgarden had been the Alpha dog of the Seattle scene and was working on their second album when this came out - and everyone took notice of Vedder, who had just moved to Seattle to form what would be Pearl Jam.
Too much beauty, too much pain.
Those days are gone. Chris is gone now.
Fly high & free-Andrew, Kurt, Layne & Chris. 🌈🦋🦋🦋🏵💧💧💧💧
Layne STANLEY's brother Paul was is KISS😂😂😂
Paul is now a 72 year old Italian grandmother from NY.
Probably the best tune to come out of the entire grunge thing. Soundtrack to my student days.
I remember warching this when it came out.
I feel so old, damn it.
It's a song about if you have EVERYTHING... Give to those that help you..
Still listen to this all the time
So sad to see such beautiful souls pass away so young 😭
The first time Eddies vocals were ever professionally recorded.
You would like say hello to heaven by temple if the dog, Chris wrote it for his friend Andy wood! Cornell does a duet with Layne Staley in Right turn by Alice In Chains!
I used to have a goat named Vedder, because they sounded the same.
You going to be OK? This dude is out here giving his own posts a thumbs up 😅
That twang you're talking about that Chris and Layne had a lot of the Seattle guys had it's that forward placed and really can hear it in R sounds, it's a defining thing of that Seattle "grunge" sound, Cobain, Cornell, Vedder, Weilland all had it.
Mad season was another awesome super group. "River of deceit" is an amazing song.
Glad you reacted to this... when anyone asks me what my favorite song of all time is I send them to this song. Thank you
Just a great thing that a lot of these guys from different bands in that Seattle scene were friends. You get two really tremendous singers here.
All Night Thing is my favorite song off that album.
The wild thing about this is A, first "proper" studio song Eddie Vedder ever recorded vocals on, B, before Pearl Jam recorded anything and they made this like a little before any of those bands blew up. So you just get this lucky one off of them right before both exploded and became two of the most legendary and revered rock singers of all time. we just lucked into having this with both of them.
First, it is Layne Staley. All three are part of the Mt. Rushmore of Seattle, the last being Kurt Cobain. The album was a tribute to singer Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone, who died of a heroin overdose. Eddie Vedder had just moved from San Diego to join Pearl Jam, whose members came from Green River, which branched them into PJ and Mudhoney. PJ, after a lawsuit made them change their name from Mookie Blaylock, a popular basketball player at the time, then had their first album, Ten, later that year. Ten being Blaylock's jersey number. Cheers. Hope you learned something.
The Grundge music time was awesome. It was actual musicians playing real instruments and most wrote their own music. The computer garbage was starting but the Grundge bands still did it the old ways.
Ye Chris's voice just hits different. I swear it seemed you were about 1 or 2 belts away from throwing your panties at the screen lol I was 16 in 1991 and had SG, PJ, TOTD, AIC albums but that year was just insane for music. Ozzy Osborne No More Tears, Guns n Roses UYI 1 & 2, Metallica Black album, Skid Row Slave to the Grind, RHCP Blood Sugar Sex Majik Ice Cube Death Certificate, Ice - T OG, all came out that ear.. just crazy for great albums.
Say Hello To Heaven , my favorite song on the album
An absolutely timeless song. Great reaction.
I looooooovvvveee you grasped how awesome their vocals were. I love Vedder ,,, but man I miss Chris Cornell.
This was not Eddie Vedder's band. It was formed by Chris Cornell in tribute to his friend Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood. Along with Chris was Soundgarden and eventually Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, Stone Gossard on guitar and Jeff Ament on bass, both from Mother Love Bone and then Pearl Jam & also Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready. Eddie Vedder only sang co-lead vocals on this song and backing vocals on a few others. This album was released in April 91, Pearl Jam released their 1st album Ten in Aug 91 (Eddie Vedder was still unknown at this point), & Soundgarden released their 3rd album Badmotorfinger in Oct 91.
"Right Turn" Chris, LAYNE, Mark and Jerry.
Love love this song!! Needs a couple more verses dangit! Lol. RIP Chris.
Layne Stanley from Alice n Change....😂
They were beautiful friends..I love eddy.we have too...he's amazing artist ❤😎👍
Nobody had a voice like that guy.
The song is about poverty, how some have to work hard to even survive, while others live high at ease.
Farming babies is a reference to how some farm families used to have to churn out kids and put them to work in order to sustain themselves. While others had slaves and do nothing living comfortable.
This song was written for Andy wood as a memorial song that became an Album. Chris joined Mother love bone members to form this group to pay tribute of a lost friend and band mate as a Fairwell, Say Hello to Heven is another great hit from this Album. Ed Was there to join the members of mother love bone for a new venture which turned out to be a pretty good band as well eventually turning into Pearl Jam.
Ah yes, Laine Stanley from Alice and Change, classic...
This was a mix of 2 of my favorite early 90s bands and even 30(ish)years later this song is still one of my all time favorite tunes.
The Seattle sound they all came up together
