Yeah, and the sad part about it with that era , and that as they called grunge sound more than 90% of the bands no longer have their lead singers, because they have all passed away and one way or another. Very sad
Temple Of The Dog was just a one off band that did one album. It was meant as a tribute to Andrew Wood, who was a singer in a few different influential bands in the early Seattle scene, mainly Mother Love Bone, that died from a drug overdose, and was Chris Cornell's roommate and best friend at the time of his death. Chris wrote a few songs in tribute to his friend, and wanted to put together a group, on the side from Soundgarden, to record them, and approached Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Mother Love Bone, who were in the middle of putting together their new band, Pearl Jam, and already had hooked up with Mike McCready (Pearl Jam). Matt Cameron, was the drummer from Soundgarden at the time, and later after they broke up, he then became the drummer of Pearl Jam. So, Temple Of The Dog, was basically just Pearl Jam lead by Chris Cornell. Eddie Vedder wasn't really part of the group. He had just come to Seattle from California to be a part of Pearl Jam. So, he just happened to be there, and when they were working on this song, Chris was going for a sound, but having trouble finding it, and Eddie jumped in to make some suggestions, and Chris realized that what he needed was Eddie, but he's only on this one song. Eddie Vedder has talked about how when he first came to Seattle, he didn't really no anyone, outside of Pearl Jam at least, and Chris befriended him, and invited him to hang out, made him feel like part of the scene, and was there when he had nobody and needed someone.
Eddie Vedder / Pearlam has covered Mother love bone - Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns several times. These conserts shows Andrew Woods influence for the whole genre. Its amazing song and for me Mother love bones Mother love bone album is one most remarcable of that era.
I think Chris and Eddie became roommates for some time after that (not sure, but think a heard it in some interview way back), also thanks for remind me of the history of Temple :)
Layne and Chris were actually really good friends. They were all a big circle of band friends. This album is a tribute to Andy Wood who was a singer for one of those bands after he passed.
It's far too uncommon that a bunch of guys who were supposed to be rivals would get together for the remembrance of a fellow musician who missed out on fame. They did so at the height of the movement without egos. She should also check out another Grunge supergroup, Mad Season, that does feature Layne Staley and the great Mark Lanegan as vocalist.
The whole Temple of the Dog album is a killer! If you would like to hear one of the greatest rock and roll voices of all time at his peak, you know what to do haha... Rest in peace Chris Cornell! Terribly missed.
OMG I wanted to crawl through that screen! And how she skips over the line that the whole song is about. THEY'RE FARMING BABIES!!! Chris was killed because of his movement against child trafficking. I wonder if they're in fact cloning babies to feed on
Thank you! I know it was a slip of the tongue, but youve given me the best way to piss off a few of my friends now. "Layne Stanley from Allison Change."
Chris Cornel and Eddie Vedder, just has to be absolutely amazing! RIP Chris 😢. Yeah it was a ‘Supergroup’ and what a great one it was! Great song, great reaction!
You would absolutely love the band Mad Season Layne Staley and Mike Freakin McCready's ( from Pearl Jam) side project, it was Mike that got these awesome guys together. One awesome album, the song "Wake Up " is a good start. Awesome reaction Ray!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
I’m pretty sure this was Chris” thing….not Mike’s. Every song is written by Chris, sang em all. Maybe together? I never heard of Mike doing anything other then playing guitar 🤷♂️
I'm clean every day since 1996...SO FAR...but Mad Season's *river of deceit* will punch my psyche repeatedly wherever I hear it...and it it's one, I listen and sing along EVERY TIME. But it takes me right back to that time on the cusp of leaving the life, versus the last draws of remaining there until oblivion... That moment frozen forever FOR ME, in MY LIFE, is still visceral & nauseating & exciting & near-suicidal every time I sing it out. But, to this point, I've never bought about ticket to ride the Dragon. I would be hell beyond all suffering, and a heaven that I won't wake up from. Period. So, to paraphrase another contemporary, Layne Staley, "I Stsaaaaaaaaaay away!"
The performance is more impressive when you learn two things: This was Eddie's first pro recording, and that Eddie was a last second addition. Chris thought the song needed another vocal, and Eddie was in town getting to know his new bandmates in what was originally called Mookie Blaylock.
Definitely heard Chris loud and clear. Eddie, too, for that matter. These guys and their bands were the musical leaders of my generation, usually referred to as Gen X. They crafted all of this incredible music for the rest of us to grow up on. Chris in particular was just a powerhouse voice. His entire career has vocal bangers.
A tribute band created by Chris; it doesn't get much better than a duet with Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder. RIP Chris- a beautiful soul and a voice that is greatly missed.
Great duet with Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell Eddie has a great low voice mixed with the insane high ranges of Chris Cornell's voice the two are magical in this video Chris Cornell had another performance which is even more insane with his range the song is called Say Hello To Heaven
You would like say hello to heaven by temple if the dog, Chris wrote it for his friend Andy wood! Cornell does a duet with Layne Staley in Right turn by Alice In Chains!
Another great reaction. This song is so simple, yet so powerful. They don't make music like this anymore. RIP Chris Cornell. 2 thumbs up on your take on this.
Great reaction! Both have unreal voices. Also, his name is Layne STALEy, pronounced like the word stale with an e on the end. There's no n there. Easy mistake to make though.👍
I don't think there's another video that conveys the overall mood of the "Seattle sound" than this one. The light house, the ship on the Puget Sound the bonfire on the beach, boots, jackets, hats, plaid flannel shirts .... Eddie sporting the classic shorts over long underwear look.
you missed Chester. he was really close with Chris and his family and a hell of a vocalist with songs that helped a lot of people through their tough times
While not Grunge, the era... I'm adding Dime and Vinnie to the list. Rock In Peace! Dang, I think we might have to add Prince too, even though I never cared for his music. And Adam Yauch... the list is getting too long and the old-heads that grew up on it are next!
A song about the intricate notion of becoming famous. Taking the money of the record company while knowing you’ll be stealing the money of the young fans who don’t have much money but will do anything to buy your record, that the record company will make so much money off of! Rest easy Andy, rest easy Chris. I am so grateful I was alive for you to share your genius with! 💜💜
This was during the heyday of MTV and VH1. We kids were all glued to the TV waiting for our favorite songs to play, like this one. Then we would run around the house pretending we were Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornel. 😂🎵🎶
From this album: Say Hello 2 Heaven. A must-have! A remarkable vocal display, a performance that shows off the amazing range of Chris' voice. I've heard this song thousands of times and seemingly always know what to expect.... but still, every time I listen to it, I'm very impressed and amazed how good Chris was.
I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today! I saw Pearl Jam on LOLLAPOLOOZA 92 with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Soundgarden, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill…
grew up listening to these legends all my life and still I get chills every time when I hear those voices that are complete masterpiece and they still blow me away.. and the way people knew how to write and say things back than.. It will never repeat ♥ RIP Chris. Listen to all you can find from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Chris Cornell solo, Audioslave, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains :) it's the best musical and cultural education :)
6:10 you want to hear Cornell sound like that for whole songs react to Soundgarden "slaves and bulldozers", "4th of July", or "beyond the wheel" he actually opens up which he is only doing a few times in this song notice he only really opens his mouth at the end of the "hungry's" and the last couple "going hungry's". He belts higher than this with the vibrato in the majority of those songs I listed, not whistle register but true belts. I hate to say it but Vedder was one of the lesser vocalist of the grunge/seatless era and it shows how far and away better Cornell is in this song.
This tune is my all-time Grunge favorite. Living in the Seattle area for over 50 + years seen some Great Rock bands. Hendrix, Heart, and the Grunge scene. Bad deal the deaths from, Herion.
That twang you're talking about that Chris and Layne had a lot of the Seattle guys had it's that forward placed and really can hear it in R sounds, it's a defining thing of that Seattle "grunge" sound, Cobain, Cornell, Vedder, Weilland all had it.
I was 18 in 1991 .i feel so sorry for all the generations after mine .this was the last great push of rock music .we lost so many great singers from this era
I am so fortunate to have grown up in the 90 when Chris and Eddie were first coming out. I remember clearly the day I brought a Pearl Jam Ten CD to music class and played it for my best friend John who would later play guitar in a band we formed. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were such huge influences to us as young musicians. RIP Chris.. You're loved and missed.
Chris also sings with Layne Stayley on the song Right Turn off Alice in Chains' ep Sap. Two of the my favorites along with Maynard James Keenan of Tool (and a couple other bands) Maynard and Layne also sang together live a few times.
Best music ever! Best bros. Nostalgy for simple days ,when enjoying each other and being in company , playing music from the heart was the only thing we needed. And hello miss Ray, stay cool!
42 min ago, nice to be in the firsts comms here on ur channell, i descovered u from reactings to slipknot songs..you are amazing, keep going what u do :)
I would be lying if i didn't let out an audible, "ugh," to hear that Chris sounded like, "Layne Stanley," from, "Alice in Change." I stuck it out though. Very appropriate reaction to Chris' vocals at the end.
Young lady you are taking me back to my high school days! I was sixteen when the Grunge Era dropped. I still listen to all of them to this day! What better could you get than a super band of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Mother Lovebone?!
Probably only Mad Season... They even surpassed my favorite band since the night I saw them open up for Van Halen in like fall of '92, Alice in Chains, obviously...
If'n you're interested in more Seattle-sound "supergroups", I highly recommend "River of Deceit" by Mad Season. Oh, and Layne is the singer. If that's any motivation. (DO IT!) 😀
This is forever considered one of the best songs not only in grunge, not only in rock, but in the history of music in general. The combination of both voices, the texture, softness and intensity of Christ and Eddie, the beautiful contrast that goes from Corner's voice to Eddie's gravity. when the instruments change pitch and Christ's beautiful high notes with a voice as powerful as that of a fucking God.! They make this song remain for posterity as a Grunge anthem.
If you liked this song which everyone does, you have to react to "Say hello to heaven" from the same group. To me it's their best song. And thanks for sharing this!
Andy Wood, the legend… that’s why this band was formed as a tribute to his life. He helped launch the Seattle music scene and Pearl Jam is basically the second coming of his band with Eddie Vedder replacing him as lead singer after he died. Legend has it, Cornell was in studio recording this. He was having difficulty with the low parts. Vedder, who was waiting his turn with Pearl Jam, offered to sing the low parts. And that's how they came to collaborate on this hit
FYI, this video was filmed at Miracle Beach (NW) of downtown Seattle. You can also see West Point Lighthouse a couple times in the video and the water you see in the background is Puget Sound. I was born and raised in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle and this location/video shoot is barely three miles from where I grew up. W47.660690 N122.434110

Love ya lady! Keep rocking
Mother love bone is my favorite 🎉🎉🎉
Cornell could sure scream and Eddie's tone was second to none.
I prefer Eddie's tone as well.
Cornell's voice was touched by God. A true one of a kind talent.
Yeah his voice is amazing, but you should hear Jeff Buckley’s voice. He sounds like an angel.
Both their vocals are ridiculous!
A great song, but "Say Hello To Heaven" off the same album is perfection
My favorite Temple of the Dog song. Top 10 all time for me
@@cbdawg4242 Mine too, almost hurts to listen to now.
Facts...RIP Andrew Wood
Absolutely 💯
Yesssss
The first time Eddies vocals were ever professionally recorded.
Hell Yeah - I love those grudge guys: Layne Stanley, Eddie Sweater and Chris Cromwell
Ok well done
That era brought us some amazing vocalists. not flashy, not over the top. just pure music. RIP Mr Cornell. good morning miss! have a great day!
Yeah, and the sad part about it with that era , and that as they called grunge sound more than 90% of the bands no longer have their lead singers, because they have all passed away and one way or another. Very sad

Eddie actually sings backing vocals on a few songs on the album.
I think Chris and Eddie became roommates for some time after that (not sure, but think a heard it in some interview way back), also thanks for remind me of the history of Temple :)
I knew Andy
I believe the only studio recording with Layne Staley and Chris Cornell singing on the same track is ‘Right Turn’ off the Sap EP.
That’s vocal perfection!
All these years later and this song still gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
Layne and Chris were actually really good friends. They were all a big circle of band friends. This album is a tribute to Andy Wood who was a singer for one of those bands after he passed.
'Mother Love Bone' which included many of the members that would go on to Pearl Jam, just to complete your thought :)
AIC's song "would" is a further tribute too. The band was Mother Love Bone and temple is some of the surviving members after Woods death.
Andy Wood was founder of grunge

Take you Chris Cornell for share with us that amazing talent one of the most beautiful a powerful voices RIP
I used to have a goat named Vedder, because they sounded the same.
You going to be OK? This dude is out here giving his own posts a thumbs up 😅
FYI, this video was filmed at Miracle Beach (NW) of downtown Seattle. You can also see West Point Lighthouse a couple times in the video and the water you see in the background is Puget Sound.
I was born and raised in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle and this location/video shoot is barely three miles from where I grew up.
