Follow along with me to create a beautiful practical pillowcase! I repeat myself many times and ramble on...if this annoys you then you might want to tune out! But if you stick with me, you just might learn a little something!!

Hi Jean, I had to laugh as I have a Dentist appointment this morning and just got fabric for pillowcases and have been watching videos and found yours with the flap, I love it! Thank you for being so creative and a joy to watch.
Years have gone by... others has made how to make this type of pillowcase. But by far, I love your tutorial. Thanks
Awesome! Thank you!
I love your videos I Love the way you ask youself a question and answer yourself.
Ah geez....do I do that?!?!? I sound like I'm losing my marbles!! :) (to think of it....I probably am!) Thanks for loving my videos! I am just doing what I am doing and finding that people are watching me do it - go figure!! :) Thanks again!
Jean that is amazing but, I'm going to have to watch this video more than once to get it through my thick head.😅❤
I can't wait to try it!!❤❤❤❤
💟❤💟 You are a breath of fresh air, Jean. Thank you for not being influenced by anyone saying, it can't be done. That's the spirit just go do it anyways. I want satin pillowcases and your method is the way I will do it. I know working with satin isn't a walk in the park but it's what I want. Thank you.
Great video! Love the french seams and little flap!
Oh my goodness, you are one funny lady. Lol. Enjoyed listening to you. I’ve made these before but without the flap, although I have made plain pillowcases with the flap. Not sure I could have figured this one out like you did. Thank you for this and for being so funny. :)
Oh thank you for taking time to watch me and my antics, Sue:) You are very kind:)
Jean, I get the biggest kick out of you and your methods. Love ya!!
My unconventional methods you mean?!?!?! LOL!! Thanks for watching!! :)
Love this tutorial. I love the added inside flap! Great job! I'm going to play this back a few times just so I can make mine right. 😉
Yes, you might need to play it back and watch a few times to get that pesky flap correct! :) :) LOL!! Thanks for watching!
Loved watching your video. I just started making pillow cases and was looking for something extra special. Thank you I will be doing this.
Good luck with your dental appointment. Great tutorial on the pillow
Sweet of you - yes, I had my rotten tooth pulled out - was a bit out of it for awhile there!! But all is well and healing! Thanks for watching! :)
THX for this! You’re hilarious and so creative!
You’re amazing !! You figured it out. You make me smile!! You are so fun!!
I DID!!! I figured it out!! Go me!!! LOL!! Thanks so much for joining in my lighthearted fancy....this IS fun....always remember that!
Love your teaching method! You say what’s on your mind and figure it out! ♥️♥️
So true! Thank you for liking it Thelma!! A LOT of people don't!! LOL! To each their own:)
Well done Jean 👏🏻 I just love it and am about to give it a bash. Thank you so much for taking the time. 🌹
You are so welcome Nadine:)
Thank you so much for this tutorial: you are delightful to listen to, I love your approach and cheery outlook, and you explain everything so clearly. It is a BRILLIANT solution and just exactly what I had envisioned in making some pillow cases.
This makes me happy! That you actually took time to bear with me (after all my chattering and babbling)!! LOL! I am pleased you are watching. Thank you so much!
Love your video, especially enclosing the seams. Thank you for your great directions!
Thank you for watching me! I tend to waffle on a bit, so appreciate those who suffer along with me! :) LOL!
I'm so glad I found this. I got a sheet set for Christmas one year that had that flap, and also French seams, but I wasn't sure how to make it. So, I used the fabric configuration from the other tutorial you mentioned because I liked how it looked having 2 different sides, but did the French seams instructions. I came out beautifully! I am going to be making more of these for sure.
So pleased you found me! I love making these pillow cases - living in the UK for many years, I was spoiled by them!
Omg, you are so funny. I love how you love sewing.
I DO love it!! :)
Thanks Jean, I’ve made lots of these pillowcases for my kids, grandchildren, sisters and Mom. Enjoyed watching your version with the flap, thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Wonderful!
This is the best pillowcase tutorial I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing!
So pleased you like it and took the time to watch! Thank you:)
Love the flap! Makes such a nice pillowcase! Gonna make these!
Yes, try them!! They make up SO pretty! :)
Thank you. Love that inside flap for hiding the sometimes not so pretty pillow underneath. Appreciate your time and sharing. Keep it up. This is how we all learn. Stay safe.
Glad it was helpful Andrea!! Thank you:)
Love your tutorial. Your style and personality are wonderful!! Thank you for the time and effort it took to make this fabulious tutorial.
Thank you! We get excited over little things!! LOL!
I LOVE that your expanding into mom quilting!!! show us lots of thing to sew!!!
Me and my 'MOM' quilting.....Merideth...you have started something!!! Thanks!!! :)
I have no idea why i wrote that! haha must have been late at night
Very clever and beautiful pillowcases, thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! :)
I love this!! So much! Can't wait to make a few. I made my son a tiny travel pillow and I've made the French seam pillowcase but really dislike the exposed end of the pillow. In Brasil, we also have "flaps" on our pillowcases and I love them. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Seems to be not so much an American thing ~ the flap...but very European and now in Brasil!! :) Have fun! :)
I enjoyed your tutorial more than any of the others, thank you. I am in South Africa and I have never seen a pillow case without that flap.
What a sweet thing to say! Thank you so very much!
Agreed...we have them in all....even Peppies!!!
Thanks Jean. That's really pretty. Love the way you explain it thoroughly too. You make it easy to follow and understand. I'd like to try to make one xxx
Thanks Ann!!! Yes try and make some!!
I got a new pillow for Christmas. Now I can make some lovely pillow covers. Such a great idea and you explained it well.
SUPER!!! :) Glad I made this video then! LOL!
I , once again, have totally enjoyed your tutorial. ASAP, I’ll make some and also try the king size ones too. You’re the BEST Jean. Luv Ya
Thank you so much Rose:) I appreciate that;)
Hey sis....I just thought about today making a pillowcase for my granddaughter with leftover flannel that I have and I searched UA-cam and here you are..... I'm excited to try this...pray all is well💜
I have to have flaps on my pillow cases. I liked the sausage method though. Now, thanks to your genious I can have a sausage pillow with a flap!! Heavenly!!
Fabulous. It's lovely to have a pillow case constructed so well. Best wishes from England
Thank you very much!! :) I enjoyed making this!
This is my 2nd or 3rd time watching this tutorial and I’m still very impressed with how you accomplished the pillow case with a pocket AND French seams. Bravo!! I will be making my 3rd pillowcase following your directions. Thank you!
You are so welcome Ivette:)
Just found this video. Lived it. Made 2 pillow cases using Easter fabric. Great video for a beginner
Great! This is a lovely way to make the pillowcases that are practical:)
You’re entertaining as well as clever! Thankyou
Why thank you!! :)
Bravo!Jednostavno,bez dugmadi,cipzara ,praktično.Oduševljena sam i ja ću tako da šijem.Majka ovog dečaka.
THANK YOU for figuring this out and providing a wonderful, and quite entertaining, video! My son asked for this type of pillowcase for Christmas. I hadn't heard of them before, searched in a couple stores and couldn't believe how expensive they are. I am so happy that I found your video - I did see the other video you mentioned and was not thrilled with the unfinished edges either. So again, thank you for the demonstration, for taking the time to figure out the french seams and making it so easy to follow! I will be making him new pillowcases this weekend! Can hardly wait for him to open Christmas morning.
fortunately I have a collection of fabrics, i'm a quilter :-) made two - left out the 3" decorative band, no issues with bulk - again, thank you!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!! And I love your videos Jean!! You are brilliant!! I'm very new to sewing and I cannot wait to learn more with you!!
Thank you so much Tawanda;)
Yes yes yes
. Thank you Jean. Sorry it is after Christmas but I am going to get in very early for next year. Just exactly what I wanted to know. From Australia where we have pillow slips always with a flap to cover the pillow. Thank you for your wonderful directions. Easy to follow.
.
I'm glad you follow along with me! Thank you!
I love this pillow case Jean but I did make a little change I made the roll up different. I place the flap first ,then the body of pillow case pretty side up,then I placed my accent strip ,last I place pillow case cuff down Turned over and rolled all the fabric in for my taco and sewed my quarter in seam. I eliminated the steps wear you sewed flap inside the cuff . At the end the flap is enclosed
Hope your feeling better. Great video, this is a fun way to make pillowcases and they look so nice!
Thanks! YEs, try the pillowcases!! They are fun!!
This is exactly what I came to find. I’m lazy and was hoping someone else had already done all the hard thinking and figured out how to add a flap to the burrito method. I knew it would involve a separate piece so that’s fine with me. Thank you for doing this six years ago! Lol
I made one today and it came out really well. 👍🏼😊
You are fabulous! Thank you so much.... I’m from Scotland and have never found a tutorial on our style of pillow cases! I am so pleased 😁 Thank you so much again xxx subscribed already and haven’t even watched all tutorial so far..... need to go and “rewind” xxx Kara xxx
So glad you found me!! It was when I lived in Norwich UK that I discovered these type of pillowcases! They make so much more sense than the ones here in America!! :) Thank you so very much for watching and tuning in! :)
I'm glad you took the time to demonstrate that inner flap. I'm have to watch it again, so yay for UA-cam. Thank you. Hope the dentist appointment was easy.
*I'll, not I'm.
The appointment went as 'well' as can be expected....threw me for a loop but I'm back to fighting fit (almost) LOL! :)
I really loved your tuto thank you so much 😍
You are a joy to listen to. I enjoyed your video!
Oh thank you Maire:)
Lovely tutorial! I love that it’s all French seamed. Brilliant! You’re quite funny I LOLed when you said it can’t be done but you did it! 😂 Always good to make impossible possible! 👍 I’ll try out your method and make pretty pillow cases with a flap! Thanks for making this simpler! 😊
Thanks for taking time to watch me! I get there (somewhere) in the end:) LOL!
I love this great tutorial, so much easier to follow than most others x
Glad it was helpful!
Amen!!
love the pillowcases with a flap, I brought mine from Europe lol, also a zipper foot works great for a French seam :)
What's up with the American ones?!?!? The flap is a brilliant idea!!!
I like this. You are a great teacher, Jean!
Wow, thank you Letty:) I appreciate that:)
I finally got around to making my grandson a pillow case thankyou for showing me how to put a flap in, all our pillows in Australia have them 🥰
Super! Did he love it?!?! Fun:)
When I was little (1950s) we had pillowslips in Australia without the flap - some had ties and some didn't. They were a nuisance as the pillow would slid out. Then mum bought some that had the flap. Marvellous. We three girls voted for the ones with the flap. :-)
Thx Jean! Love your videos and info!
Love that you love it!! Thanks for watching!!
Jean, you are very entertaining while you teach! I did a lot of laughing!
Oh thank you! Some find me SOooooooo annoying!! LOL! LOL! But I don't take myself too seriously and seems you don't either!! Thanks so much for taking time to watch me Pat:) Take care and keep safe:)
Nice and surprisingly simple , that is since you already figured out the hard part! Lol. Great job explaining and demonstrating your technique. I so get the DDS apprehension before the time of the appointment ~ hope it didn’t drain or upset too much...all I know is once the appointment is done I am SO relieved and exhilarated yet exhausted at the same time 😅. You’re one tough cookie❣️
Thank you! Yes, AFTERWARDS is always a relief! But sometimes this cookie crumbles!! :) LOL!
Oh Hooray for a great tute ! Thank you
You are very welcome and thank you for watching!:)
Nice--thanks--very easy idea. I made these with french seams but not flap--will add it from now on.
Thank you for watching me!
Love your tutorials 💕
I'm so glad! I appreciate that Jean:)
Thanks for this tutorial, beautiful done.
Thank you! Cheers!
Very cleaver. I love it. Isn't it funny the difference in different
countries the way they do things. We been in 7 other countries
including England while my husband did work. It took lots
of getting use to their ways after being from the states. Germany
was the one for me staying in their pensions they have feather
beds and they hang them out the windows to air out. I was so
amazed to see something like that. What a beautiful country it
was though. Another great video Jean🌷
Same with the UK..we lived in a small typical English village, complete with pub, meres (2 ponds) post office and greengrocer. I miss it.
When I did a student exchange in England I was amazed that windows & doors to the garden could be open because there were no bugs like flies & mosquitoes to worry about.Loved that! Back when what is now just Germany was West Germany I too fell in love with the down comforters & pillows with fresh air to welcome the winter morning!! Just how my Grandma was raised- sign me up!!lol
Thank you! Just what I was looking for.
Great!
Great job...Something I"d like to try.....Thanks for the technique......
Give it a try!! You might find yourself LOVING it!!! :)
This lady is hilarious! I love her method and make me laugh every moment! I live in England but come from Europe and European pillow cases have buttons and I couldn't be bothered now to do button holes, so this is great. :-)
Thanks for watching Lucia:)
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory your videos are great! You have a good laugh and also learn something. Life is far to short to be serious! Thank you!
dunno if you guys cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch all of the new series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother during the lockdown xD
@Roger Wilder yea, I have been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :D
Fabulous video. Thank you. I like your style too. very clear instructions. :)
Thanks so much Susan! 😊
Love it ! I always put a pillow cover on and then put that one inside another backwards to create a cover over it.. make sense ? Probably not. But, I hate seeing a pillow inside a pillow cover.. Always knew there had to be a way to make ..it look pretty 😊.. thanks for sharing..
Well there you go!! :) Glad you like it! Thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial! Always wanted to make burrito pillowcases but because I am used to having a flap (I am from Germany) I never did it. Now I can! 🙇♀️ 🙇♀️ 🙇♀️
Thanks Christiana! You CAN do it! :)
Hi Jean thank you for your tutorials I have started to watch from no1 after a terrible start to 2018 watching your videos have cheeres me up and got me enthusiastic to start quilting again. I love your attitude you are down to earth and make quilting fun ignore the knockers they are just jelious what a better world it would be if people do not have something kind to say they said nothing Thanks agasin for cheering me up JaneneMenner from Kurunjang Melbourne Australia (Kurunjang is aboriginal for people of the redgum)
WOW!! All the way from Australia!! So cool! Thanks so very much and I am pleased to bring a smile with our silly antics!! :)
Hi Jean, If after sewing the first part of the french seam, turn the case wrong side out and also turn the flap out. Then sew the second seam. When pillow case is turned right side out nor even the. french seam will show at the top inside where flap extends to.
Now, Marlene, where were you when I did this tutorial?!?! LOL! You could have helped me with that bit!! Thank you:)
I AM FINALLY getting to this project that I've wanted to do after watching your video two years ago! My gift projects were put on the back burner, as I've spent the last two plus years making and donating facemasks. I was happy to be able to still find your video on youtube. The "lovely woman with the silver hair" you mention is Laura from SewVeryEasy. She does a great video, too, but I wanted to know how to make the french seams and not just serge (I do not have a serger) or do an overlock or zig zag finish. - I love watching you both, out of all all the great sewists I've seen on UA-cam. My first pillowcase with the hidden flap really turned out so nice. Thanks for the tutorial. Now, I know what I'm making for birthday and Xmas gifts.
I absolutely enjoyed this pattern & she makes it easy to understand 😎
Aw thank you so much!! I hope I make things understandable!! :)
Loved your videa...You are such a joy...
Why thank you!
I'd love to watch you make a lined dress😁😍
I just love you Jean! You are so refreshing. I know this is one of your older tutorials that I’ve wanted to attempt for a long time. My son constantly wrestles the pillow out of the pillow slip so this is my answer! I’d been thinking of trying to attach the flap to the bottom of the cuff but then the open side of the flap which is on the fold side of the pillow slip is left hanging free and nothing I came up with looked good. Never considered making a seam on the fold side. I have to finish a quilt then this is my first priority. Thanks for a great tutorial. :) (I’m facing major dental work so I know how you were feeling.). Take care. ❤️
I'm so pleased your son will have an intact pillow by the morning time!! LOL! Thanks for sharing Kay and I hope your dental work goes okay ~ I just got a back bridge made because my rotten tooth had been pulled a while ago. I have to get it fixed permanently on Tuesday coming!! Keep smiling! :)
Dear Jean ~ you are a hoot!!!
Is that a Good thing?!?!? LOL! LOL!
Just found you! Fun tutorial..can't wait to see more! Priscilla in San Diego
Thanks for finding me Priscilla;)
In Australia our pillowcases have an inside flap, so Thankyou for your great tutorial !
In the UK also! Only here in America are they just pillow 'slips'...LOL!
I love this, thankyou for sharing
You are most welcome;)
Hi Jean, I've been wanting to make pillow cases - my Aunt made cute cases for all her great nieces and nephews (my kids included) for Christmas and they are so sturdy much better then store bought cases, and I have meant to ask her for her pattern, now I don't have to :0) Thanks so much!
I'm so pleased! Yes, you can now make them yourself! Slow and steady and follow along! You will be whipping them out in no time! All the best and thanks for watching! :)
Hi Jean. I looked at that video you were talking about with the lady with the white/grey hair and I too found it a little bit complicated. Your video was terrific and just what l was looking for. That is how we have our pillow slips in Australia too. I have made heaps of the rolled pillow slips but I really wanted to find a video of how to make one with the flap, and I was wrapped to find your video and how easy you made the instructions so thanks a lot - Great job
Awesome!!! So pleased you understood it and I made it simple! Thank you for watching! I appreciate that
Hi, Jean! I recently subscribed to your channel. I Love your teaching style & humor!😂
I look forward to watching your other videos & creating this kind of pillowcase. I’m from California & made many pillowcases as a volunteer for Conkerr Cancer back in the day. Cheers!😄
Why thank you so much! These pillowcases are fun AND practical! I'm glad you 'found' me!! :) Thanks again!
Jean Truelove You’re welcome! Congrats on achieving 3K subscribers!👍
I know!! What's up with that?!?!? How cool! WOW!! :)
Very well explained!💕
Thank you:)
yes I will be trying this pillowcase
I love your tutorial....just like talking to a friend. One could guess that you'd lived in England because there is an English accent that creeps in from time to time and is so cute. Thanks for the instructions and the fun in learning.
I'm from outside of Philly, but married a Londoner and lived in the UK for about 10 years and had 6 (of our 10) children there...so the 'accent' sneaks in occasionally:)
Thank you so much or this tutorial. If I trim the folded edge like the other raw edge, wouldn’t that encase the flap when it’s stitched?
just found your channel love it love the chit chat think you are brilliant !!! sunscribed!!
Thank you! I DO chit chat and natter on a bit, but as I say, I get there in the end:)
Love it , I will try to copy u .thank you
i have been trying to figure out how to put a flap on a magic pillow case. So thank you very much. However, before making the final stitch for the french seem, flip the flap over the opening of the pillow case and make the final stitch to avoid having to hand stitch that little bulk at the opening on either sides. Perfection.
Great idea! Where were you in my sewing room when I needed you!?!? LOL! Thanks Velma! :)
You're most welcome dear. My mum taught me that trick 😊😊
What would we do without YT?!! Yes, I've seen that tutorial and am subbed to her. She has an interesting speech pattern. I'm fascinated by people's speech patterns, accents, the words and terms they use (colloquialisms) and was trying to discern if you were from England or Ireland. But the funny thing is that sometimes you don't have an accent at all and then you'll say something that makes you sound like you're from New Jersey or somewhere on the East Coast. Now I know - England! I'm born and raised in California from parents who came from Oklahoma. People are always telling me I sound like I'm from the South, y'all - lol!!
Accents (or lack thereof) are fascinating! I'm born and bred outside of Philadelphia, but lived in the UK and Canada, then back to PA...so I'm all over the place! Thanks for watching! :)
I totally agree about the accent. Fascinating speech patterns. I'd guess English originally, but spent a long time living in America. Am I right? (Calling it a sausage was maybe a clue). Fantastic video! I don't mind the nattering. Helps me to follow along easier instead of having to rewind the vid for the instructions. Thanks a bunch! God Bless.
Fabulous. Thanks for sharing .
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you Jean Truelove. I learned a lot.
Thank you for watching:)
Lovely especially your pin cushion
Thank you 😊Joanne:)
Thanks Jean! I know there are other videos on the pillow case, but you made it easier for me to understand. Love love love listening to your videos :)
I'm so very pleased you found me!! Thanks for watching! :)
Thank you so much I've been looking for a video exactly like this for a pillowcase I'm trying to make My pillow is 20x37 and I want to make a flap for the inside and I want to make French seams with no border strip but using two different colors of fabric on for each side so it's kind of reversible and I need help with measurements before I cut the fabric I plan to cut 22 x44 for each side of the pillowcase I plan to fold down two flaps for the inside it will be white on one side and pink on the other and I want to use the French seams like you did in this video I hope I can do it can you please help me with the measurements and the steps that I need to take if you have time thank you
I have tried the SewVeryEasy and the GourmetQuilter method with French seam and they came out great. However, yours is simple and quick than the SewVeryEasy, especially for beginners. Much appreciated
Oh thank you! Sometimes I know I repeat myself and hope people don't find me 'dumbing things down' too much, but I believe if you truly are a beginner that needs to be the case!! I was a beginner myself at one time!! :) Thanks for taking time to watch! :)
Kudos to You Jean! I started making this type of pillowcase (with the flap) a few years ago after watching a YT by Gourmet Quilter (the others weren't here then) & have wanted to convert it to have french seams too. I never could put it together how to do the flap, have Matching front & back & french seams. OMG Thank You! I don't know that my OCD will let me live with the little flappy seam, but I'm gonna work some up lol. Thank you so much for working this out and sharing with us!
This makes me happy! Thanks for commenting! It took a while to figure it out, but I love the inner flap (very European) so stuck at it till I got it! :) Thanks for watching! :)
You Rock! Can't wait to check out your other videos. And...Where can I find that beautiful large swing arm light you have on your sewing desk?
I actually got this at a local quilt show about 4 years ago, but I know that OTT lights do one similar to this.
I didn't know they made them that big lol. I'll seek & find. Thanks, Wish You Blessings
I followed Sew Easy and did French seams. The case's feel very sturdy. I left the bottom seam open until the french seam. Her flap comes off the bottom edge of the back band. I am going to try your version and see if I can get the flap at the bottom edge.
Leave it to Jean. As always innovative!
I've been called a lot of things...Innovative is the first! LOL! Thank you!
love the flap!!!
Who doesn't love 'the flap'?!?!? LOL!
Just keep making those tutorials love them😃😃😃🇦🇺
As long as I am enjoying myself, they will keep coming! :)
Janene Menner s
It's Laura on Sew Very Easy!! I've just watched her make the inner cuff....and she's Canadian😊. I'm a Canadian living in Scotland and yes, all our pillowcases have cuffs...much better to hide the pillow!
Yes, I found out her name, after watching again! Thank you! And thanks so much for watching me! :)
