I pick up sheets from estate and garage sales. They work beautifully as backs for pillow cases, table runners and curtains. And they're usually less than a dollar a set! Used tablecloths work good too.
I made these a year ago at Christmas time for my Twins, they absolutely loved them, now I’m making Neck Pillows that are 18 x 10, and making each with one pillow case, thank U 4 post!
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial - my husband and I have bought a country place and again forgot to bring our pillows from home😢- we bought some pillows for our bed and I remembered this tutorial- went to the local op shop and got a couple of clean sheets and made up some gorgeous new pillow cases! So blessed!
Ive been just a touch dyslexic my entire 75 years. BUT your magic pillow tutorial has made it all so very clear. Instructions I can understand! I love the pillowcases! Thank you!
I've decided this is the perfect Girl Cousin Camp project! (Granddaughters ages 8-14!) I bought a bunch of Christmas fabric today at Hobby Lobby. I am going to add in a narrow flange. I guess i better make a sample one ahead of time!!! Thanks for another great tutorial
I had no idea hotel pillowcases had this feature. My husband is always complaining that his pillow is coming out of the pillowcase. Now I have the fix. Thank you Tracy for another fantastic video.
You learn something every day. Even the cheapest pillow cases in the UK come with this inner flap. I thought they were the standard for pillow cases all over the world. I like the burrito method of adding the contrasting fabric, and the French seams give a really neat finish.
In Australia they’re standard too, I made this burrito style before without the inner flap and don’t like pillow cases like that. These ones look great
How wide is the flap on the pillowcases? Not sure the flap she suggested would hold my pillows from coming out. Any advice you give will be appreciated.
This is the only way I am going to make pillowcases from now on. Thank you so much for showing this to us. I always do French seams and this is just a little extra over the top. I love it!!! thank you so much. You’re one of my favorites to watch. Thanks.
Thank you - I had been looking for pillowcases made the way we have them over here. My daughter chose fabrics she wanted a long time ago, but the tutorials I found only had the ones without the flap - some didn't even French seam! Being a hoarder, and my daughter has no interest in quilting or sewing, I still have those fabrics! Looks like I'm going to reduce my stash! Beautiful edge fabrics on your pillows too.
I love these type of pillow cases. One of my sheet sets has them and they are great! I should just make a bunch of my own since I have 14 pillows on my bed... yup I use them all 😄 🤣 😂
In Australia, back in 1960, when I was nine years old my Aunty taught me to sew. This type of pillowcase is the first thing I made. Our pillowcases are all made like this. When the burrito pillowcases came out I was surprised there was no part to keep the pillow from falling out. I really enjoyed this video. I was thinking of all the pillowcases I made like this when I was young. Thank you.
Yes same here. I had no idea there were any other kind of pillow cases for bed pillows. I always make my own because my pillows are so big the standard shop bought pillowcases are too small.
@@TheSewingChannel well if Britain and Australia have done this for decades you can bet Canada has as well. I just don’t remember my pillowcases looking like that But my family members enjoyed them as gifts

Hi. Thanks Tracey. Little tip... when you turn the pillowcase inside out, to do the last of the French seam, flip the flap over, so that the opening is in the top memory fold. Sew the side seams. When you turn it out again, the French seams are hidden inside the flap.
Hi Tracy I’m just coming across your channel. I’ve never seen a pillow case like this before. I’ve written done everything to make this. It’s 4 years since I’ve sewn anything. I’ll make one and embroidery name on the body of pillow case. Thank you so much for this post. I have 45 cases to make for my family. Adults will get these and kids will get the sausage pillow cases. I’ll look forward to watching your other tutorials.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I’ve been wanting to make some of these types of pillow cases but didn’t know what they were called and stumbled upon your tutorial today! So excited to get to making these!!
Just made a pair of colour coordinated pillow cases that came out beautifully. Thank you for this tutorial .. i proceeded confidently and with no need to rip out any seams as happens when I "guess" my way through a project. The delightful addition of a hidden, decorative seam "not because the user will see it, but YOU" will when you change the pillow." How disarming, charming and eye opening. Not for the "likes" and ,👍 but because you yourself will like it. Big warm hug from India for that
Love this pillowcase. I typically sew pillowcases from the leftover fabrics of a quilt and gift them with the quilt. Looks fantastic on a bed. And the recipient doesn’t have to go search for matching pillowcases
I saw a tutorial by Daisynics that shows when you turn the pillowcase to the wrong side to do French seams, she also turned the tuck in cuff wrong side out . When she turned it back to the right side, the cuff looked real nice and the seam was flat.
Found this tutorial just in time! My hubby can't stand to have to stuff his pillow back in the case every night. I made us matching pillowcases within an hours time! So simple and easy to follow instructions. Thank you 🥰
In Australia and UK, that’s the only pillow cases one can buy. I was given US made ones and really hated them! I like pillow to be totally enclosed. Looks so much tidier. In my opinion!
We do have that flap here in the UK 👍 I would even consider making the ‘flap’ slightly longer so that pillow definitely can’t pop out 😃 Love the pretty fabric detail 👏👏🇬🇧
I rarely make pillowcases because I can’t find fabric that I want to have my face next to, but I love the pattern. One quick tip. If you press the seams flat before turning it over to make a French seam, you don’t have to fiddle with trying to roll it into place. It will fold smoothly and crisply. You can then sew a straight 1/4” seam without fuss.
I came across you channel and was excited to see how you made the pillow case. I love sewing pillows cases but I have not sewed one like yours. I will be making them like your from now on. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏽👍🏽
