thank you so much for such a nice clear tutorial. I am 95 and have not made pillowcases for years and today I am making a set for my youngest daughter who is 58 today.
I like the camera was aimed to show from the perspective of the person that was going to do the craft and not looking at you and watching it being done backward. It's really helpful to learn from that view.
Had to smile when you said you wanted one of each you made. My mother used to do a LOT of sewing as gifts and many times I remember her saying, "and one for Santa", then she put that one into her Christmas closet. My dad made her a closet with floor to near ceiling shelves and added a locked door. She started Christmas shopping for the next year, the day after Christmas, so dad made her a Christmas Closet. Thank you for bring back a wonderful memory. I'm 70 yo now and it was so nice to remember that.
Great idea! I need a designated closet, I start shopping the day after Christmas 🎄, but when I needed the gifts I couldn't remember where I hid them!!!
My granny had a quilt closet w shelves. I climbed round in it as a.little kid; it was my hiding place. A shelved closet would be great to have for whatever!
Love your tutorial and enthusiasm! I sewed two. To avoid the loose threads making their way out the finished side in the end, I increased my initial regular seam to 3/8" and used picking shears to trim it down to 1/8" before sewing the French seam. The result was zero loose threads!
Wow. 6 years later and here I am. I'm a VERY beginner sewer, and you are an excellent teacher! Thank you so very much. I am so happy to have found your tutorial. ❤
I used to make these years ago and forgot the little tricks to make them come out beautiful. Thanks so much as your directions are so easy to follow. I plan to make some for the Children's Aid Society for when kids who are shuffled around will have something that is not only theirs, they can put some of their stuff in it when they have to move.
You’re right, it’s a sickness. I made 12 last year for all the grandkids and plan to make more this year for other family members and myself. Love your tutorial and ease of direction. Thank you so much!
They are addictive! I sew them for an organization up here that distributes them to children in hospitals that have cancer and other life threatening illnesses. I did about 200 last year, I've already done over 200 this year, and more to come! Constantly searching for fabric donation is the hard part, the sewing is a breeze LOL
I am a brand new sewer and I have watched this video a bunch of times. I am gonna try it. You did a great job at explaining everything and I'm sure it will make a lot more sense once I get in there. Thanks
Thank you so much. I'm making my very first project for Christmas gifts. Brand new sewer here teaching myself through all of you here on UA-cam because nobody has in person lessons. You all are so valuable to us newbies
Just starting my sewing adventure! Have never sewn anything before. I've got the machine, thread, pins, material and now I have a PLAN!! Thank you Liz for a very concise explanation of how to do this. I am very excited and you will be with me on my ipad as I make my beautiful pillowcases. Thank you.
This is a wonderfully clear tutorial. Liz's advice to practice 1/4 seams is great advice. I practiced on plain white paper when I started to quilt 45 years ago. Made this pillowcase and was very happy with results. Good luck with yours😊
Thank you, Liz! I watched your video and was able to make my 6 grandkids a pillowcase for Christmas, and even their mom & dad. It was such a huge hit, I’m rewatching the video to make another one for my grandson who is graduating from 8th grade, along with his twin buddies. I don’t think you’re ever too old to love these homemade pillow cases! I’m 66 and not to old to learn to sew with a helpful tutorial, thank you for making it so uncomplicated. 💞
Liz, I am just rewatching this so I can make a couple for my grands who picked fabrics when they were here. I love your infectious enthusiasm. You make me smile. I aspire to your sweetness! Thanks so much. 💕
Excellent instructions. I made a lot of them a number of years ago. I want to make some for my daughter for Christmas and I needed a refresher on the instructions. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome. You're speaking the truth that everyone you make you don't want to give it away. I like the background at your back, the live plants and windows.
I am making my 8th & 9th pillowcases. My boys get to picked their own favorite cartoon character fabrics. When my boys are happy, mommy’s happy 😊. Thanks for sharing this video.
I've made plain pillowcases but this looks like more fun and who can't use more pillowcases. They would be great for gifting too. Thank you for the great, clear instructions.
it doesn't matter how many of these videos I watch, it just doesn't get old, ever. the first one I made i couldn't believe it would work, but it did and I'm still astounded to this day. whoever invented this is a genius
Thank you. I didn’t know what a French seam was. You showed it so clearly. I’m making pillow cases for Cases for Smiles, a charity for children. Wish me luck!
Very clearly explained. It took me longer, as I’m not a sew person, normally. But, applause to Liz for explaining so well. Thank you. I now hug my flannel pillow case. I’m not telling anyone I made it, or they’ll be asking for me to do them. Liz, like you, I just can’t part with my new case. I see many more adorning all my beds in the near future.
Thank you so much! I too don't like making things for people...especially when they don't understand the time it takes and don't want to pay for it. I usually quote a price that hopefully is too expensive and they'll decline LOL. There are a few that will pay, so I do it.
I did find the measurements. Thank you for your response, and for helping build confidence to start sewing with my grandmothers old Singer from 1942. It hums along faithfully with each stitch. How I wish I could share the UA-cam of this pillow case with my grandmother and mom. Now, to get my mom’s 1946 stitching away on another pillow case. And, thanks for emphasizing the little frayed threads. They do drive me nuts, too. Lol
Excellent tutorial. I made several of these years ago and couldn't remember the instructions. After watching yours, I'm ready to make some more. Thanks!
You are a WONDERFUL instructor! Its not always easy to find someone you can follow along with, stand their voice or the way the give instructions, but you are top notch! Thank you!!
I loved your sewing project for pillowcases. I teach sewing to my 3 granddaughters, and they made one each, so easy. We are doing it again soon. Your comments are funny and helpful. Your video is great and, Yes, the pillowcases are beautiful. I like your fun personality and that strings make you crazy.
I found it was so enjoyable and worthwhile to view and listen to Liz. She has a charming way of explaining the sewing of the pillowcase. Her voice is also easy to hear. I look forward to following her instruction soon.
I have never been able to sew anything and have it come out looking as beautiful as my pillowcases did. Your tutorial was wonderfully clear and I was able to follow everything you told us to do. Thank you so much for giving me confidence to do more. I went shopping for material and came home with so many different colors that I can't wait to do them all. I hope you have quilting tutorials because that is my dream.
Hi Liz, just finished making my first pillow case with you step-by-step. Now, I have 4 more to finish for gifts for my niece, 2 granddaughters, and one special friend. Thanks for your clear and very easy to follow steps. Sue M.
Thank you for this pattern and instructions. I made these for my little great granddaughters and their two best friends for a sleep over. I made matching short bottoms and sleep masks from the same fabric as the cases. They loved them.
I just came across this video and I totally love it!! You’re right it is magic, I just made one, now I have a list of people I’m making pillow cases for!! lol thanks so much.
I just love this quilt pattern, I made a set for my niece, for her bridal shower to match the quilt I made her for her wedding! Love it love it love it! And so easy! Thank you for sharing your talents!💜🌼
I have made these pillow cases and they are so fun. I was watching Paula from Knitting Pipeline and she showed hers and wow that made me sit up. It has been long while since I thought of doing these up as quick gifts !
You did a great job of one of the most fun projects there is. I have ditched all my MATCHING pillowcases and have a nice colorful bed set or ten to play with as I please. I have frogs and butterflies and swirls and oh my goodness.... They go with everything. It is a cool project and you did it well. Thank you so much. It is nice to look back and see for sure again once in a while. I do that ever few months. Refreshing the certainty of "well done and well used" techniques once in a while is just good to do.
I find your tutorials so easy to follow also you give suggestions for different sizes which has helped me a few times. Thank you so much. Your teachings are appreciated 🙏
I've been making these for years, as gifts, for charity and A LOT just for moi, LOL. So glad to discover I'm not the only crazy pillowcase lady! Thanks, Liz, your videos are always fun!
Thank you for sharing your brilliance with us! I'm making, God willing, 4 of these for 4 children being baptized in 8 days. I know their favorite colors :-)
Liz, one other comment. You are so enthusiastic with your presentation and that is so cool, just like I am with sewing and embroidering, too. I'm going to embroider on one size. I really need a smaller version for child's pillowcase.
Thank you so much! I love these magic pillow cases! You have explained very well. I am a quilter so I want to make some quilted pillowcases. This will be the best method to sew them.
Great tutorial! I can't imagine why anyone would give you a thumb's down unless they are just mean and spiteful! I plan to use this tutorial as a pattern to make some for my great grandkids. Thank you!
I'm fixing to make my husband a pillow case like this. His favorite one just ripped because it's so old. I'm super excited to get started. This pillow case is beautiful and suits what I'm looking for because I didn't want a plain Jane standard pillow case. Thanks Liz!
Thank you, Liz, for this wonderful tutorial! My dream this year is to sew pillowcases for my grandchildren and children and even more for relatives and friends, but especially for my three grandchildren. I’ll be happy to get those accomplished! I haven’t machine sewn in a long time and feel rusty. I’ve watched many tutorials which are great but your has made me feel I can really begin! You are very clear, give exact measurements for the fabric, demonstrated everything and made me laugh, too! Those pesky threads!! Thanks for the warning! Really, thank you. I look forward to starting my projects! I’ve gathered what I need that way! 😊
I've found it easier when pinning the panel, flange, and main fabric together, to work from the center fold out to the selvage edges. This way any excess fabric would be the same amount on both sides. So when trimming the excess I don't worry about trimming more or less off either sidethe side. Just a thought ❤.
Liz, you did a great job of explaining the process. Before I saw your tutorial, I watched another and my cuff was wrong side out when I finished. It was a DIY Pillowcase tutorial, no sound, no explanation of any kind. Found yours and love your steps to complete the project. I'll start over tomorrow. Thx again
When I am in the car or mobilehome as passenger, I need a BIG pillow to hold my shoulders. The same thing with my electric wheelchair. But I like to have nice pillowcase like you did! And the fun to have one for Christmas, St-Valentine, Easter, etc, I will have a special pillowcase! Thanks a lot and continue to show us nice thing like that one.
I understand that you want to keep them, they are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I'm just learning to sew, so I'll have to give this a go.
This technique would also work well for a tote or gift bag. Add some straps, adjust the size, and the possibilities are endless. So much fun. And thanks for the explanation of why I get string things in my French seams!
Great tutorial. Very clear instruction and demo. I have just made quilts for my granddaughters and now I am going to include a pillow case with each. And you crack me up about the tiny stray threads...just clip any strays!!) Thanks for posting!
This was a wonderful, concise and clear tutorial. Thank you because I have always been intimidated by French Seams! You are awesome and I too get annoyed with tiny threads lol!
Just stumbled upon your channel this morning while flipping around youtube. I decided to watch your video and I truly enjoyed it. Thanks for a wonderful video, now I must teach my niece how to make a pillowcase, thus begin her sewing lessons. Thanks again.
I want to try and make some also. For about 2 or 3 yrs I was just making simple pillow cases and putting all the gifts for my grand children inside and tie ribbon to close it up and at Christmas Eve they sat in a circle and got they’re pillow cases and gifts,I loved it and they can still use they’re gifts on they’re beds. I hope I can do well on yours they are so well made and I’m still new at sewing. Thank you for your tutorial.
I’ve watched others do this. Your enthusiasm inspired me. I’ve made a set for myself, and for my daughter and husband. Excellent instructions and tips. Many more sets in my future.
Just seen your video, seen some before, but yours is so simple to follow.i have the the same nachine, its going on 7 years and it hasn't skipped a stitch.
I just finished the first of two matching pillow cases to match my new quilt. I am so happy with it, and your directions are very clear! The only thing I did different was that I top-stitched the flange down, and also top-stitched the edge of the cuff down right next to the flange. Thank you so much! I will be making a lot more of these!
Made my first 'BURRITO' pillow cases with you today Ms. Liz! I chose your tutorial over the many offered. Perhaps.......I am just as compulsive as you are? They turned out awesome! I share your zeal! Thankyou.
I just made 3 with Star War fabric for 3 grandsons. I hope that I can remember this magic part to sew I couldn't visualize #1, #2 or #3 turned right side out, but, they did. Thanks for the visuals, and tutorial.
I really enjoyed this tutorial you made it look so easy in comparison to others I have watched. So I’m going to make lots of them with kangaroos on and other Australian things because I am an aussie.
Well done, Liz! I can't wait to try making these. Your comments are so candid, made me chuckle. Lucky you, getting to feed your "addiction" by working in a fabric store! Blessings from this Liz in N.C.
Made my first today. It seems the prep takes the longest and the actual making is pretty fast once you have the swing of it. It looks better than I anticipated! Love the detailed video too
Whoever thought that up is a genius...i love making them, ive used many different fabric s, ie flannel, batiks..i love them...ps yr tutorial is awesome, and i love yr sense of humor..hilarious
You’re a good teacher. Perspective over your shoulder is just right for viewers to see what should be happening. I’m doing two cases for my guest room and this was the best video. Thanks. I’m a new subscriber!
I love this tutorial. My mother was a wonderful seamstress and she loved French seams. I am going to make these pillowcases for her grandchildren in memory of my mom. ❤
I love making these, and yr right, addicting....i made them them for all my great nieces and nephews for Christmas, and for my neighbors kids for the holidays....so fun...i love how the kids flip over them, too funny
this was the best video i have watched for making a pillowcase - i bought my fabric over a year ago to make it but everything i watched did not make sense to me till i saw yours today Thank you so much - you are the perfect teacher and my pillow case is finally made for my little granddaughter - now i am going to make another one !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love, love, love this tutourial! It is my number 1 go-to for Reminder because, I can never remember if it's right sides together. 😜 Like you, my friends and family cannot understand my obsession. Especially, that I choose to totally Hand Sew each one. I know. Madness! Bless you for your energetic excitement. I get it! Lol
Ahhh, now I see it. All I have to do is iron that accent flap down instead of up. I just made this case and it was so easy following your instructions. Thank you!
WOW! As a beginner quilter I wanted to make my grandson a matching pillowcase and found your video very easy to follow! Now to check out what else you've got. Stay safe in this COVID-19 time. Jean
thank you so much for such a nice clear tutorial. I am 95 and have not made pillowcases for years and today I am making a set for my youngest daughter who is 58 today.
I like the camera was aimed to show from the perspective of the person that was going to do the craft and not looking at you and watching it being done backward. It's really helpful to learn from that view.

Thank you Elaine. Try a practice one. Make a small one to get the hang of it and after, sew a ribbon on and use it as a gift bag.
Thank you so much. I'm making my very first project for Christmas gifts. Brand new sewer here teaching myself through all of you here on UA-cam because nobody has in person lessons. You all are so valuable to us newbies
Thank you so much, and welcome to the wonderful world of sewing. These make beautiful gifts.

Thank you Liz for a very concise explanation of how to do this. I am very excited and you will be with me on my ipad as I make my beautiful pillowcases. Thank you.
That's exciting. Practice sewing seams on scrap first. Don't forget to back stitch a few stitches at the beginning and end of your seams. Have fun.
This is a wonderfully clear tutorial. Liz's advice to practice 1/4 seams is great advice. I practiced on plain white paper when I started to quilt 45 years ago. Made this pillowcase and was very happy with results. Good luck with yours😊

You made my day, Valerie ❤
What do you call the cutter you're using
Thank you so much Liz for the video with talking instructions instead of music. Just sticks so much better than with music for me.
Thank you for taking the time to show and talk us through this I made 4 for homeless people and hospitals in our town
Thank you so much. I love stories of kindness. I'm so happy I could help in a very small way.

I agree! My excitement is real. I am always amazed at everything I make.
Liz you teach very clear I like the way you teache and give the side for the pillow. Thank you so much
Your tutorial was terrific!! I made my first pillowcase out of flannel and cotton is definitely more cooperative. I did love it!!!
Thank you. I didn’t know what a French seam was. You showed it so clearly. I’m making pillow cases for Cases for Smiles, a charity for children. Wish me luck!
That is wonderful, and so gratifying. Have fun and thank you.

I see you had mentioned in a comment (deleted/edited) about the measurements...you can find them in the description. Thanks so much for watching ❤
Lol

Thank you, Dianna. I love that you are teaching your grandkids to sew.
I like you, your funny with your 12 steps..I’m learning..
This was really a delightful video. I have probably made 100’s of these with this method and I still love picking the endless array of fabrics!
I found it was so enjoyable and worthwhile to view and listen to Liz. She has a charming way of explaining the sewing of the pillowcase. Her voice is also easy to hear. I look forward to following her instruction soon.
Thank you Mary Kay for your kind comment and for watching ❤

I have never been able to sew anything and have it come out looking as beautiful as my pillowcases did. Your tutorial was wonderfully clear and I was able to follow everything you told us to do. This is by far....the easiest way to make a pillow case! Great tutorial!!
My pillowcase turned out beautifully, thanks to your excellent instructions.
Thank you for this pattern and instructions. I made these for my little great granddaughters and their two best friends for a sleep over. I made matching short bottoms and sleep masks from the same fabric as the cases. They loved them.

Pillow case pattern meant, to go with quilts
I have made these pillow cases and they are so fun. I was watching Paula from Knitting Pipeline and she showed hers and wow that made me sit up. It has been long while since I thought of doing these up as quick gifts !
Thank you so much. I now have what you called your “sickness.” So easy to make and the cases look amazing. I am hooked.

Thank you Karen for your support. I hope you have fun making them. I have learned that some people just need to be mean.
I'm fixing to make my husband a pillow case like this. His favorite one just ripped because it's so old. I'm super excited to get started. This pillow case is beautiful and suits what I'm looking for because I didn't want a plain Jane standard pillow case. Thanks Liz!

I am about to make my seventh Magic Pillowcase - and I consider myself a beginner. Thanks, Liz!
I'm so happy to hear that it IS beginner friendly.
I understand that you want to keep them, they are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I'm just learning to sew, so I'll have to give this a go.
You can do it! Sewing is addicting. Have fun and don't get frustrated. I say "I sew, so therefore I swear" LOL
Hi. Hello. Howdy. From Texas. I think you are funny and a character. Thank you. I also like the way you explain it.
Thank you so much. My pup is from Texas. We Canadians love the pups from Texas.
Geat tutorial! And I love the background music of the hammered dulcimer!
This technique would also work well for a tote or gift bag. Add some straps, adjust the size, and the possibilities are endless. So much fun. And thanks for the explanation of why I get string things in my French seams!
It does make a wonderful gift bag. Thanks so much for watching.
Great tutorial. Very clear instruction and demo. I have just made quilts for my granddaughters and now I am going to include a pillow case with each. And you crack me up about the tiny stray threads...just clip any strays!!) Thanks for posting!
Thank you. I now use a rotary pinking blade (where have you been all my life!) and no more threads...I'm a bit neurotic, eh?
@@makingiteasywithliz HA...we are all neurotic about something...
A fun video... & you would make a great story teller! I want to try these. Thanks for sharing.
I am quite animated and chatty lol. Thank you Dee for choosing my video out of the many ❤
This was a wonderful, concise and clear tutorial. Thank you because I have always been intimidated by French Seams!
You are awesome and I too get annoyed with tiny threads lol!
Finally! Someone made this easy for me to understand.....thank you
Thanks...hey, I'm a Carter too!
Making It Easy with Liz 😃
That fabric just makes me happy. Probably need to join your 12 step group.
I usually hate sewing but when I made these pillow cases I fell in love. I will never buy store bought pillows again. 😍👍🏻 Vickie G
That sounds like a very special gift and tradition. You'll do great, and thanks so much ❤️
I’ve watched others do this. Your enthusiasm inspired me. I’ve made a set for myself, and for my daughter and husband.
Excellent instructions and tips. Many more sets in my future.
That is awesome!
A friend told me about this method, but I never tried it. Now I'm inspired! Maybe I can use up some of my 'stash' this way.
Just seen your video, seen some before, but yours is so simple to follow.i have the the same nachine, its going on 7 years and it hasn't skipped a stitch.
Thank you Marylou. Unfortunately I knocked out the timimg on that machine, sewing dog collars. It's not heavy-duty.
Thanks, you explained it so well . I made two for my grandsons for our Homemade Christmas
Can't wait to try this... thinking I will make a set of pillowcase for Father's Day gifts!!
That's a beautiful idea, Angela. They are very special, with so many awesome fabrics to choose from. I hope you have fun with it.
Thank you Rebecca. That's a great idea to tack down the flange.
Great explanation for that pillow!
I am making one in the morning can't wait Bye going to pick out my fabric now Thank you Miss Lady
That's funny, have fun!
Made my first 'BURRITO' pillow cases with you today Ms. Liz!
I chose your tutorial over the many offered.
Perhaps.......I am just as compulsive as you are?
They turned out awesome!
I share your zeal!
Thankyou.
I really appreciate your support, Connie.
I just made 3 with Star War fabric for 3 grandsons. I hope that I can remember this magic part to sew I couldn't visualize #1, #2 or #3 turned right side out, but, they did. Thanks for the visuals, and tutorial.
Thank you for choosing my video. ❤
I really enjoyed this tutorial you made it look so easy in comparison to others I have watched. So I’m going to make lots of them with kangaroos on and other Australian things because I am an aussie.
Love this style so much. Thank you for sharing this method. I have been making these in a more difficult way, and this is fantastic!!!
That's awesome, thank you.
Just got done with another pillowcase using this method...omg I saved so much thread. Again, thank you! 😀
Love the detailed video too
Excellent tutorial & I landed here five years after this debuted.
This is like the easiest and well explained tutorial I'm yet to see. I am confident I can do this after seeing you do it once
I love that you are so excited!!!!
What an excellent tutorial! Thank you! I appreciated the absence of background music:)
I can hardly wait to make one! Thank you for sharing such a simple process and a beautiful end project.
Thank you so much for choosing my video amongst so many ❤
Can’t wait to get started on pillow cases made easy!!! Incredible way to make them!!!!
I love this tutorial. My mother was a wonderful seamstress and she loved French seams. I am going to make these pillowcases for her grandchildren in memory of my mom. ❤
That is a very sweet gesture, Anissa. Thank you for watching.
I love making these, and yr right, addicting....i made them them for all my great nieces and nephews for Christmas, and for my neighbors kids for the holidays....so fun...i love how the kids flip over them, too funny
Thank you. I watched two before this one and you showed every step. I understand why those steps have to be done.

Thank you!
Excellent!
Just found you and I just love your personality and presentation. Thank you !
WOW! As a beginner quilter I wanted to make my grandson a matching pillowcase and found your video very easy to follow! Now to check out what else you've got. Stay safe in this COVID-19 time. Jean
Thank you, Jean. ❤
