I love making pillowcases this way (burrito style). Sometimes I will make a pillowcase to gift a quilt (especially nice if have leftover fabric so it matches). Funny story…the last time I bought a set of sheets for the bed I forgot to order matching pillowcases. No problem…just went to my stash and pulled three coordinating fabrics. Love how they turned out.

Most larger size sheets come with pillowcases, I think even Twin size comes with 1, but that may have changed over the years, but I love making them, too. Someone asked me years ago "why would you make a pillowcase when they come with the sheets?" I said "because I like to!" Plus, I think they're more personal 😊😊

@@marlahanks7278 I didn’t order the sheets as a set and that’s why no pillowcases came with them. I liked the ones I sewed better than the ones that I could have ordered.

I love making this style of pillowcases! I started top-stitching the cuff and accent piece so that over time (and lots of washing) they stay nice and flat! 😊

Pillows are larger now, and fluffier and more comfortable, so…by the time you make this pillowcase with unwashed quilting cotton and then wash and dry it, it shrinks so much it’s hard to put on the pillow. So I make them a little longer so it’s not a struggle to put them on .😊

Thanks for the tip. You are not making them 'a little wider' also, if they are shrinking?.

I make all my pillowcases this way. It’s so easy and quick. I make holiday ones for special occasions and give them for gifts. The only hard part is picking out the fabric! There’s so many beautiful fabrics that can make these!

This is how I make pillowcases too. I typically leave out the accent fabric. I have made with flannel and most recently with fleece. Though with the fleece I didn’t do the French seams as I thought that would be too bulky.

I love these, but the last step for me is to do a small top stitch along the edge of the thin accent strip to hold it down. I’ve found that if I don’t, once I’ve washed the pillowcases, they tend to not lay flat again unless they’re ironed. And I definitely don’t take time to iron my pillowcases. I’ve made these for all of my grandchildren and each year they get more: themed ones for Christmas, Valentines, Halloween, birthday, etc. So fun!

It would be a 10 minute pillowcase for me if I could speed up! It was a 30 minute project for me. Cut, pin, sew, press, pin, sew, press, pin, sew & press. 10 individual steps. If this took 10 minutes, each of those tasks would have to be done in 1 minute! 😂It doesn’t take long, that’s for sure, but I’m a fairly quick quilter and I couldn’t do it in 10 minutes. It’s a great pattern and video though! Thank you!🎉🎉

Please teach people to rip their fabric and get a true straight of grain before beginning a sewing project; then cut the salvages off before continuing. The pillowcase in this project is not sewn on the straight of grain and will eventually twist when on the pillow. Finding the straight of grain of a piece of fabric is the first step in preparing to sew a project.
