For those interested, this process is the called Translam construction method. Manly used for small speakers. The snaking chamber behind the speaker driver is used to amplify the bass. The drivers are Audio Nirvana "Super 8".

Note: 13:55 -- he seems to be leaning over, manually screwing the speakers in place, while the cabinet is sitting on a chair or push cart, at knee level. That's fine, if you make 4 speakers per day... but it'll never work, for high production. I'm sure they simply have no need of Kaizen, at whatever scale they operate on. It's hard to comment on, without context. I could question a dozen production choices, but for all I know, these could be the best speakers in the world. I can't complain, without hearing them, in person.

Yes. Single driver backloaded horns/TLs are a known design, made popular by Fostex of Japan I think. They sound good, depending on how good the driver is. Making them from layers of mdf this way is also known, to DIYers and manufacturers.
not trying to be funny but I think is not needed one day for gluing inner parts and another day for outboards. I would stick them together at once with inexpressive long dowels (maybe self made once of some offcuts). Also I would maybe use quicker glue .
This looks like the first attempt by a furniture maker to use his CNC machine for speaker building. I'm not really sure what to think of the sound absorbing material either. Coffee filters glued to the wall? The guy building the speakers seems to be having fun though. That's very important in life.

Very inspiring to see this production process. What made me wonder is at the end, when mounting the driver with the flat iron on the housing, with these carved vertical lines on the baffle and the driver just mounted on top of it, this speaker will not be air tight, there will be leaking air through these carved lines. That's quite a curiosity. Another curiosity are these paper-pillows inserted for damping, reminding me some people claiming that bubble-wrap inside on the speaker-walls would provide a formidable damping. The heavy machinery looks expensive.
there are indeed several little anomalies in the design and assembly process that may not reflect ideal best standards, and even the choice of placement during listening, however the old dude seems to love the end result
The entire concept is pathetically wrong headed and incompetent, right down to the packaging. Inexperienced audiophiles will be impressed, though, and will part with too much money to have them in their possession. I’ll bet they sound ridiculous - so many fundamental acoustic principles are violated in this silly design, it’s really not worth detailing them.

Here's a quote from Martin J King: "If done correctly, a hybrid transmission line / back loaded horn enclosure will not require any baffle step correction circuit which is the real big advantage. Imagine 94 to 98 dB SPL, at a 1 m distance for 1 watt of input, over the frequency range 50 Hz to 15-20 kHz produced by a single driver enclosure that is slightly bigger then a commercial tower speaker system. No crossover, no correction circuit, just a speaker cable running directly from the amplifier to the driver. Based on the work presented in this Section, I am convinced that this is possible and even predictable from the MathCad worksheets." Best to listen before passing judgment...
Speaker terminal post should be tightened to the case with one nut and the cable should be captured between that first nut and a second nut 6:02 or it may come loose with changes in humidity and materials expansion and contracting
There is so much mistakes in this whole video that I'm not going to even try to explain them all. And yes I'm carpenter and cnc machinist and made lots of furnitures, speakers, drums, other instruments etc, and this video hurts my soul so much. I'm amazed that Japanese peoples can make so much wrong in one video, usually they do pretty good work.

I'm done with ported enclosure. I'm now into sealed enclosure, more accurate and more natural sounding than ported rivals. And more economical and simple to build. 👍😊
They're not ported nor are they a transmission line. They also have a whizzer cone full range driver. There is so much wrong I don't know where to begin. However, if they can sell them, great.

Some serious investment there from the vertical panel saw to the multi head cnc. I didn’t see much in the way if dust extraction yet it must gave been present as the workshop was pretty dust free! Not s fan of full range whizzer cone drivers which always sound coloured to me but liked the transmission line construction of the cabinets. They make in a day what it takes me several weeks doing by hand full time working using hand build techniques for custom speaker designs. Surprised not to see flush mounting of speaker driver and no gasket used? No linearising filter ? Must be a pretty well behaved driver!

В одном ты прав у нас армянские мебельные цеха в сёлах помощнее будут, да и современнее. Я конечно не знаток музыки, но в деревянных корпусах действительно что то есть, не зря в СССР оборудование высокого класса (колонки) были именно деревянные. Да и LG с Самсунгом дорогие системы сейчас с деревом делают

Les basses descendent en fréquence tout au long du cornet qui est de plus en plus évasé. J'avais ajouté un U mobile qui permettait d'accorder les harmoniques sortants.👍bravo pour la qualité et le design de la fabrication. Il est vrai que la machine permet une grande régularité de découpe!

I dont mind mdf but only for a commercial speaker cabinets. Plywood is my perf of choice.

しかもかなりの精度と多くの工程と手間暇と精密機械と職人が揃わないとダメなやつ!でも憧れる!
20年くらい前に長谷弘工業さんのホームページを拝見していました。
長岡鉄男さんの影響でバックロードホーンに興味があり、いつか大きな音を鳴らせる環境に移り住めたら買いたいな…と思ってましたが、いまだ夢かなわず。

FE208ES-R D-55改は100Kgオーバーでもう一人では動かせないですね。
FE138ES-R ターキーとD-55改をレコードにより使い分けしています。

The gasket might be already glued on the speaker itslef.

I'm also surprised they didn't pass the wire straight in a through-hole instead of snaking through the transmission line.

Your room dominatoes your bass response, so if you tune and EQ your slead sub to the same response as a ported speaker it will sound the same.

Ну а если ты хочешь понять акустику то для начала послушай записи Листа, Бетховена или Баха с винила, а потом уже думай

@@konstantinkiev5964 ну почему же? Это и есть фабрика, в интернете всплывало ещё несколько видео о них. Семейное предприятие с парой десятков работников, но они молодцы, что нашли свою узкую нишу. В одном ты прав у нас армянские мебельные цеха в сёлах помощнее будут, да и современнее. Я конечно не знаток музыки, но в деревянных корпусах действительно что то есть, не зря в СССР оборудование высокого класса (колонки) были именно деревянные. Да и LG с Самсунгом дорогие системы сейчас с деревом делают

J'ai fabriqué deux enceintes comme celle ci lorsque j'étais plus jeune, cela s'appelle le processus d'amortissement Infini. Les basses descendent en fréquence tout au long du cornet qui est de plus en plus évasé. J'avais ajouté un U mobile qui permettait d'accorder les harmoniques sortants.👍bravo pour la qualité et le design de la fabrication. Il est vrai que la machine permet une grande régularité de découpe!
