There are 37 billion chemical reactions happening within your body every second. And every single one of these reactions requires vitamins and minerals to make it work. This is why what you put on your fork is the most important thing you do every day, and it’s why I say food isn’t like medicine-food is medicine. It’s information, and it’s the most powerful drug on the planet. It influences your capacity to live a rich, energetic, connected, soulful life.
In today’s episode of a new series called Health Bites, I discuss how to use food as medicine. I share the principles of eating an optimal diet, a list of the foods we should avoid, my number-one food philosophy, and more!

Many doctors have forgotten this quote "Let food be thy medicine" ~ Hippocrates. They have also forgoetten their "Hippocratic oath": Do NO harm. 🌶🥬🥦🥒🥩🍗 Everytime a Doctor hands out a RX 9 out of 10 times they are doing harm. sad that they dont catch on like you did.

Hi! I keep meaning to call you! I see the 413 area code. My parents had a summer house on the top of a mountain in Otis. We were 10 kids from Brooklyn, spending our summers drinking goats milk, and picking our food from my mothers garden. And there were horses...thoroughbreds! I could tell you stories! My father was chief of surgery at Caledonian Hospital. Not a modern day doctor, I think he went to med school at the age of 16 I'm guessing 1930's, well he was a medic during WW2, you do the math. The 500 acres of land there was purchased to escape the city when polio was rampant. My mother was a maternity nurse and in the summer, raised goats and sheep, delivered foals, planted gardens, trees and painted to her hearts content.
My point...they spoke of food as medicine, my mother more than father who was mostly concerned about if it was Kosher. I'd love to talk to you more about them and their love of the Berkshires.
Thank you for all your sound advice, I incorporate it into all I heard and witnessed sending summers on the hill in Otis.

Unfortunately All doctors are initially indoctrinated at med school and most never deviate from the ‘norm’ otherwise their jobs and big fat pay checks are at stake if they do.
Imagine if we all prevented disease through cleaning up our diets and lifestyle, this would make many doctors and medial establishments, big pharma redundant! Image the impact it would have of the business of medicine and medical industry all round.

Unfortunately people think that takeaway and restaurant ‘food’ is real food ie potato fries (chips in GB) these are deep fried in seed oils, even a steak is sprayed with a coating of seed oil prior to cooking. I’m acutely aware of the rapeseed oils used in deep frying food having worked in a Premier Inn kitchen. And so when, on the rare occasion, I was out in a restaurant the other day and chose the least seed oil cooked thing on the menu, bubble and squeak (mashed potato with some veg in it) with calves liver and gravy. The liver looked like it was cooked in seed oil!
So restaurant food is a major factor in bad health because of what it’s cooked in. I personally know young people who eat takeaway every day! Please highlight this issue.
12:57 I use the analogy of a diesel tractor and a Lotus Esprit sports car. You would NOT put seed oils in a Lotus, but a tractor engine will run fine on it. The lotus would end up clunky with low performance. If you owned a Lotus Esprit (which you do) you’d do your research to find the best fuel with the right minerals for the engine to run optimally. Don’t treat your body like it was an old tractor, when it’s a Lotus.
Thanks for sharing you knowledge Dr Hyman

Conventional foods are no longer nutrients, but stimulants that produce higher levels of dopamine than what you'd get from normal, healthy food. So the food industry, like many other industries, has figured out how to increase profits by getting people addicted to their processed foods.

You say salad but salad can be different veggies. It could be he's allergic to one or more veggies or there's too many veggies in one salad and his system isn't used to it yet. Have him start with lettuce like green leaf for a few days and no dressing and no other veggies, then if that's ok add one more veggie, then if that's ok too then add another veggie after a few days and so on.. Process of elimination.

Seeing how you feel isn't the best because some foods like eggs don't clean you out. When you put an egg in you it just goes down and doesn't scrub anything or work on your body. Broccoli will hurt you if you have tons of issues inside your colon. So following how you feel in that scenario will not lead you in the right direction because technically you're staying away from broccoli.
