Your problem is that plant protein sources come with their own toxins - phytates and lectins for starters. And they taste like - well they're not exactly delicious. Eat meat - our ancestral dietl
ua-cam.com/video/BqmG2y4IeY8/v-deo.htmlsi=JfRgHeid-1sLaVQl 1. Listen carefully. He's not saying plant protein is not good, you only have to pay more attention getting enough of it and the right composition/ingredients mixed together. The fiber that plant protein is attached to makes it a bit harder to digest, but is so so beneficial for you gut microbes. 2. I am absolutely not advocating a 100% vegan lifestyle, even though it is feasible with the right knowledge and supplements (i.e. B Vit., Cholin, O3). That being said I am 95% vegan by now because of all the benefits that come with a plant based diet, BUT I add in a little fatty fish, lean meat or egg almost daily and supplement where necessary. 3. Muscle growth is not everything. Basically a human body is supposed to grow till max. ~25 years of age and then to MAINTAIN for as many years as possible. Remember protein is not only needed for (muscle) growth, but for all kinds of structures and processes in a human body. Our metabolisme change throughout a lifespan, so that i.e. protein synthesis is way more efficient in younger ppl. That also explains why it's harder to put on muscle as you age (better you already did so while being younger 😬) and why quantity and quality of protein becomes more important with age for proper maintenance and functioning. The human (and basically all mammals) body doesn't really want to grow in the maintenance stage of life and carelessly triggering growth pathways (i.e. mTOR through overconsumption of animal products/ particular proteins/amino acids, but also many other factors) might not be the smartest thing since it may come with a price (looking at you cancer), especially if you're genetically predisposed or accumulated DNA damage throughout your lifetime due to bad lifestyle choices (bad diet, lack of sleep, smoking, drinking,...).
Vegans don’t need more protein … humans do. Look at yourself as a human body and what it’s needs are. I wouldn’t worry about a label. Feed your body what it needs. Protein. You can’t eat enough beans, nuts or veggies to get it without destroying your gut.
"It's harder to be a healthy vegan" as you say, doctor. And it's just as hard to be a healthy carnivore of which there are few. In both you have to go out of your way to make sure you're getting the right nutrients and to stay away from junk or processed foods, in both.
Although there is no nutrient we need in vegetable that we cannot get from meat and there are no essential nutrients from vegetables that we need that we can’t get from meat.. we can eat vegetables as survival but it’s not good as our only source long term. so you’ve got to supplement, think of the long term over 15-20 years going without b vitamins and such can cause big issues and I’ve seen it first hand as I was raised in a vegan/vegetarian community, it’s very sad thinking you are doing the best for your body only to end up down the road with neurological issues and sarcopenia. I'm curious does mountain biking count as resistance training if you are going up and down hills and have your gears set to the harder levels for part of your ride? I would think yes, because you are pushing. I am working on balancing riding with weight training. Would love your perspective.
If autophagy worked in humans, it would be the thing, that would convince me to sacrifice building muscle to a degree. Since in IF you go for prolonged periods of time without EAAs in your blood, MPS suffers and the body starts cannibalising muscle. This is exacerbated when sarcopenia kicks in with age. Is there any good research, outside the animal trials, that has shown, that there are actual benefits from autophagy in humans? I have only seen animal trials that could not be reproduced in humans. For now, I am of the opinion, that optimising lean body mass (especially muscle mass) is preferential to autophagy from IF.
I was a little disappointed with the discussion on this point: how do you both do intermittent fasting and higher protein intake? Lets say you do two meals a day and you weigh 180 or 200 lbs. Are you telling me you should eat 100 grams of protein per meal?
I have never heard a vegan say protein is bad for you. Sarcopenia set in when you older because of the lack of exercise as in not using your fast twitch muscles and slow twitch muscles as well. When you get older fact! You have to work harder to maintain muscle. Your health in general. Especially from all the abuse you gave it from when you where younger.
Being in the USA, everyone seems to be eating too much protein. I am not against these videos per se, but where are all of these protein deficient people?
You can't just look at someone and diagnose whether or not someone's ingesting too much protein. How do you determine whether or not the majority of their calories is from eating carbohydrates and fats?
I did a chellenge about 10 years ago. Started with being able to do 30 clean pushups. It took me about 4 months to go to 100 in one go and I think my max was 120 after about 6 months. It is not very hard, it's basically just discipline. Only thing I did was 4-5 sets through the day of increasing volume. so I started with 4*30 and soon I was doing 5*50. Then I switched to decline (elevated legs) 5*50 and voila, slowly I was doing 70, 80 and then 100+. I did some one armed pushups in between or had my kids lay on my back to get more resistence. But this was just for giggles. Nowadays I can do 50-60. I might do this chellenge again, but I have no friends whom I can impress with this, so I kinda lack the motivation :D
@@omrit2 You don't have to. If you are even moderately fit, you can do 80 push-ups in a few months. All you need is discipline for 3+ months. See my comment above.
What you are probably referring to is sarcopenia in older individuals for one and the body using muscle tissue as energy? We don't have a storage for EAAs, once MPS stops because of reduced EAA levels in the blood. Some protein is always "lost" to gluconeogenesis (converting protein to carbohydrates). At some point, you just don't have enough EAAs in your blood for MPS and the body starts cannibalising muscle tissue for energy. This _always_ happens but is obviously happening mor, the longer your last dose of quality protein was. So intermittent fasting doesn't go well with _optimizing_ for hypertrophy. If you want to build muscle _optimally_ you need your protein intake in higher intervals, than is permitted with intermittent fasting. So there is a contradiction here. You can basically only optimally focus either your muscle gains OR autophagy. Autophagy is not yet well researched, so I personally prioritise muscle building and just follow a "healthy" diet. Your preference will determine which way you go. I think sarcopenia just exacerbates the problem in older people. But here I'm not that sure. I _think_ that with age, when you stop caring that much about looking jacked and lean, you might emphasize autophagy more and still build muscle, just not as much as when you are younger. At least that's my plan. MPS = muscle protein synthesis EAA = essential amino acids
Great... I have some hope, then.:D I don't have time for workout and breakfast before work in the morning. Would the protein loading work if I worked out in the evening and had a protein loaded breakfast/lunch?

Pac-Man did not eat himself. lol 03:55 1800 till 0600 = 12 hours BUT if you swallowed the last kcal morsel at 1800 you will not have fasted for 12 hours. It takes 5 hours to fully empty the stomach after a meal. So if you factor that into the time frame - you would have fasted for only 7 hours. or 1800 - 0800 net time in the fasted state = 9 hours. If you wanted 12 hours of a true fasted state, then you'd need to do this, 1800 till 1100. 09:22 No intake 3 hours before bed - this flies against the ''advice'' given to body builders about eating prior to going to bed. No doubt they are more concerned about prioritising protein muscle synthesis than keeping MTOR at bay. I am building muscle with apx 1 to 1.2 grams of protein intake. The key is getting enough calories not over doing it on protein. A legend in the sport of BB was Mike Mentzer, he recommended 60% of carbs and 20% each from Protein and Fats. What I should like to know is whether vegetarians have a higher need for protein than meat eaters as vegetables have low levels of protein and although if I eat enough I can being the protein amount up to what is required for my age but I am unsure that the wide mix of small amounts of protein will meet my needs.
Hi.
From this upload, I would say yes to your question.
Says it here 4:40
Your problem is that plant protein sources come with their own toxins - phytates and lectins for starters. And they taste like - well they're not exactly delicious.
Eat meat - our ancestral dietl

Vegetarian protein is useless/ not bioavailable.
I’m speaking from experience so please supplement ❤️

Valuable discussion 🎉❤🎉❤
Are you telling me you should eat 100 grams of protein per meal?
will grass fed organic whey protein cause Alzheimers/dementia for male over 50
Some say more proteins, some say less. Who to believe? Discouraging. My doctor told me around 20 g per meal is okay. But, is it? Who is REALLY right?
I eat always a lot of Protein and when it is more than 100g per Day my Body starts to convert it into Glucose.
I am 61 female and exercise daily.. including resistance and weights… but I can’t get enough protein in. Too much.
What problem to get 70-80 g of proteine?
Being in the USA, everyone seems to be eating too much protein. I am not against these videos per se, but where are all of these protein deficient people?
You can't just look at someone and diagnose whether or not someone's ingesting too much protein. How do you determine whether or not the majority of their calories is from eating carbohydrates and fats?
I would love to see 80 straight pushups with no rest 👌
It seems impossible to those who don’t eat protein and don’t strength train regularly. Its Pretty easy really.
Just be careful if you are older that you build up slowly so that you don't injure your joints.
Yeah, I don't buy that as well.
@@omrit2 You don't have to. If you are even moderately fit, you can do 80 push-ups in a few months. All you need is discipline for 3+ months. See my comment above.
Dr. Hyman looks like Jon Stewart!
Thanks a iot for your informations
So 40 grams first thing in the morning is 1 ounce?
But how about controversy around intermittent fasting as a tool for longevity vs as cause of of muscle loss. The point here?
MPS = muscle protein synthesis
EAA = essential amino acids
"Vegan" is actually an old Native American word. It translates as: "Too dumb to hunt".
Great... I have some hope, then.:D I don't have time for workout and breakfast before work in the morning. Would the protein loading work if I worked out in the evening and had a protein loaded breakfast/lunch?
All protein comes from plants. Follow Bryan Johnson's Blueprint diet and heal yourself.

We need to see evidence for this. When you actually look at the evidence, there is none. Even for older people
Ask your doctor how many people he or she has seen in the last 20 years suffering from protein deficiency.
Every frail individual, particularly the elderly are protein deficient. Look up sarcopenia.

1800 till 0600 = 12 hours BUT if you swallowed the last kcal morsel at 1800 you will not have fasted for 12 hours.
It takes 5 hours to fully empty the stomach after a meal.
So if you factor that into the time frame - you would have fasted for only 7 hours.

If you wanted 12 hours of a true fasted state, then you'd need to do this, 1800 till 1100.

No intake 3 hours before bed - this flies against the ''advice'' given to body builders about eating prior to going to bed. No doubt they are more concerned about prioritising protein muscle synthesis than keeping MTOR at bay.
