I'm really loving these 1950's house Reno videos, Sage! Like you, I really don't like the style of homes today and these personal touches in a home make it feel so much warmer to me. I look forward to the next one!
I’m so glad you are enjoying these!! ❤️💕
@@SageLilleyman I totally agree love the older style homes don't like this modern design's to cold have a great day Possum
That turned out absolutely beautiful! I think the auntie who owned the table would be so pleased! 🥰
Agreed!!!
I was thinking the same.
I love that you unknowingly got a vintage 50s table. That's so awesome for you.
the drawer with the curtain is brilliant! I would have never know the drawer was there! just brilliant!
You are soo pretty.I love your videos 📹 😊
Welcome back Sage!! This is hands down one of my favorite craft projects you have done!!! It is so beautiful and seems relatively simple to do!! I love vintage looking home style and furniture. I am seriously considering making one of these🥰 Looking forward to the next video! Glad your taking time to balance things in your life. I'd still watch if you only posted once a month!! Thank you for your lovely videos.. Have a fabulous weekend from cold Minnesota ❄💙
I’m from Minnesota too!! HI!!
This is brilliant!! Such a cute vanity and chair!
Thank you!! 💕
The work you have done and put into that little table is absolutely beautiful!! 🥰
Aw thank you so much! 💞
@@SageLilleyman // 🙂🙂
I'm 62 and remember my mother having a vanity table with that brush and mirror set. When I was a little girl I thought it was so glamorous.
So clever, that you used the pieces, so you can access the drawer💗. Loved the pink slippers .
The shape of the mirror goes with the little table, and that pulls the piece together more! Love it!
I have also always wanted a vanity table. I thought you were going to make it from scratch, with lumber and a saw! The vanity table is beautiful! (I have always combed/styled my hair while standing up in front of a mirror).
Your hair is so pretty!! So happy you are back! 🙂💛
Yay!!! I’m so happy you’re back!
Love your new dressing table! Idk if you can get it in Australia, but Formby's wood conditioner would be an easy way to recondition the top of your table without having to go to all of the trouble of refinishing it. Also, you can use cheap white toothpaste to remove water stains from wood. It works. I have a bread box my dad made for me. He has passed and it makes this bread box even more precious. I discovered too late that something wet had been left on the top of it. I really quick looked up what to do and decided to try the tooth paste. I was amazed, but it worked!
Ooh, this takes me back to when I was a little girl. I loved my little vanity table with the skirt. Mine was white with a sky blue skirt and white polkadots, finished with 3 rows of yellow rickrack. My favourite colours. It was one of the first things my grandmother taught me to sew because it was all straight sewing. I was about 6 when I made it. I had forgotten all about it! I'm bingeing the last year of your uploads (many repeats :) ) as they make me happy. It is a trip down memory lane for me.💗
That turned out adorable! Cute fabric choice. Those pins were cute. Job well done. 😍😍
They sell those pins on Amazon.
who else but Sage would have pins with little hearts,
this girl is extremely precious, she brings back beautiful memories
@@ginger1549 thank you for the info. Figures amazon lol
Welcome back Sage! Love, Love, Love the vanity! How awesome it is 1957! Can't wait to see the renovations progress! Have a Great two weeks 😊
Thank you!! 💕
Great work, Sage! 😁 For an easily cleaned but also decorative table surface, you might consider using a clear acrylic slab over more fabric or an inspirational photo collage from your favorite vintage magazines. That way, you can avoid refinishing the table.
I have missed you sooooo much! So happy to see your smile and hear that sweet voice! 🥰 I love those old vanities, great pictures! One of my favorites is from the “I Love Lucy” comedy that she had in her and Ricky’s bedroom. Lots of ribbons and lace with layers of veil fabric. How beautifully yours turned out to be! So feminine. Who wouldn’t love sitting there brushing her hair 100 strokes or applying lipstick? Some vintage perfume bottles would look fabulous too! Cute project! Thank you for being back!!!
I think this is your most successful project to date! Not only did it turn out well, but it’s a fantastic idea to “upcycle” an old hall table into a vanity. I never would have thought of that!
When I saw you struggling with the mirror height, I had several ideas: Add wood trim to the bottom to raise the mirror up higher, lower the height of the chair (which I don’t think is possible since it’s metal) - or (possibly easiest) raise the height of the entire vanity by adding a 2” knob to the bottom of each leg. All it would take is to drill a small pilot hole into each leg so you can screw in a knob for each. Of course you may wish to adjust the hem of your table skirt if you choose to do this.
If the table top water marks are troubling you, you could purchase a piece of heavy, clear plastic from the fabric store and cut it to the shape of the vanity top. Then you could add a piece of fabric, lace, pretty paper, or anything you like and sandwich it between the plastic and the table. As a bonus, it’s water-proof so it will help preserve the quality of the wood top - and is super-easy to wipe down. I did this for a painted desk I owned, and it worked out very well!
Regardless, I think it turned out brilliantly and looks lovely the way it is!
A lovely dressing table! I did something similar with mine, as the vintage ones available are all way too big - hall tables are the way to go if you lack the space.
Watching you from Montreal’s area in Canada. I’m a man of 57 years old, so quite far from most of your projects…but you are like a bright sunshine, so refreshing to listen to that I would willingly watch a video from you about how to boil water!!! Keep going sweet lady. The world needs you.
you’ve inspired me!!! I love how sustainable you kept this project instead of going and buying a brand new vanity.
At the beginning of this video, when you mentioned your options for a table, I said out loud to myself, "she should watch Christine McConnell". Hahahhaa! And then you mention the inspiration from Christine's video where she puts in her own vanity table. So funny! I love watching Christine, she is so inspiring. I hope you've seen a lot of her videos. But your vanity turned out beautiful! Good job!
Lovely job Sage! I really want a dressing table now! Maybe you could use a couple of doilies on top would hide some of the marks and also would have been used in the 1940s and 1950s. I remember them on my mother’s and nannas dressing tables🙂
That's beautiful, Sage! Great job! Everytime I watch your shows I want to run to a thift store. Now I want to make a dressing table too! It's a lovely place to do hair & makeup 💄 💅On a side note, I just bought a faux fur from the 1950s off eBay. I can't wait for it to arrive. I'm in NYC & it's really cold here now so I plan to use this coat when I go to dinners or on nice dates with my boyfriend. It's so classy & elegant. I love vintage too!
Thank you! ☺️ 💕 Ohh that's so exciting I'm sure you'll love it to bits!! xx
I really am glad to see you back. I really like your videos. I had a vanity table when I was in my teens and 20s. I wish I still had one. Have you ever thought of putting a doily on it? I remember my grandmother always had one on hers and I always thought that looked so sweet. You did such a good job.
Sage what a sweet table. It turned out beautiful. The fabric you chose really goes with the vintage vibe. I love your videos.
I might go through a vintage phase after watching this!! It’s so cute!
Yay so happy you’re back! The vintage dresser looks so pretty and the mirror and and the chair is just perfect! I had no clue this is what you were teasing! Love your channel, have a blessed week!
Such a great project 💗 looking forward to seeing you in 2 weeks 😀
Study hard 📚📖🩺🩹
Welcome back sunshine it's so good to see you 🥰🥰🥰
omg so cute! I want one now. 😏 Decorating is the best. Everyone, if you don't already do it, polish your wood with old english. It's so amazing! lol
I love your videos so much ! And what a nice idea and inspiring thing to recreate at our own home ! 🥰🤩
what’s really cool is that my grandfather still has his mothers old brush, mirror, and comb in a vintage case that would hold makeup and stuff like that from the 1930s-40s!! the brush bristles are a little tarnished, but otherwise it’s super cool!!
this is my moms account btw
I had one of these the whole of my childhood and growing up. It consisted of a half circle of thick timber attached to the wall. It had a gathered skirt around it that hung to the floor. It had a nice mirror hanging on the wall that had a heavily decorated edge. I always loved it. I had the idea that lots of people must have had these as they would have been inexpensive to acquire.
Ah you did such a beautiful job on your vanity table... Even the original owner would of been thrilled to see it.
My late Mother sat at her dressing table every single morning and did her hair and make up. It one of my sweetest childhood memories with her. ❤️
Thank you for this inspiration! I was also shopping for a vanity but now I’m going to repurpose an old table and do this! Thank you!
Ohhh yay!!! Let me know how it goes! 💕
What a beautiful make over for a well made vintage piece. If you ever feel you need to have your mirror higher you can always make a bracket of 2 wooden flat poles attach to the back of the mirror and then to the back of the table.
I used to have a vanity/jewelry table but had to give it away when I inherited my mom's dressers and needed the room. It was basically a small desk style that had a door on one side for necklaces and drawers for rings and earrings with 1 drawer for make up. It wasn't an old one but it served it's purpose. I have since passed on most of the jewelry since I have my favorites that I never take off, the rest is in 1 drawer (the same one mom used).
Please don't stress, your videos with your personality and sweet touches are worth waiting for. ❤️
What lovely way to start the year! So pretty 💗 the stripe design on the fabric is just perfect for gathering. You seem so happy it's wonderful to see!! Xxx
Sage, Oh, how lovely. I love the material you chose. The mirror is beautiful. I am a brand new viewer and am really enjoying your channel. Have a lovely day. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎵
That looks really pretty and functional.
So enjoying the vintage renovation videos!
Turned out so beautiful!
Hi Sage, you did a wonderful job! I remember the days of having to put my makeup on using a dresser. Then my wonderful husband found a 2nd hand table from someone selling their antique vanity who lived in Hollywood, CA. He paid $85 dollars American and for a young married couple, that was a lot of money. Every time I sit at it, my mind wanders and I imagine any number of famous actresses from the 1940’s who may have owned it. So fun! Anyway, thanks so much for your videos. When I’ve had a rough day, I love watching them over and over again. ❤️ I hope you’re doing well and that school is going well. Take care!
Welcome back Sage! ❤️😘 Happy 2022! Loved this vlog! You really turned that table onto a beautiful vintage inspired vanity. My grandma made a curtain for her vanity table too back in the day. And she used the leftover material from her bedroom curtains she sewed. So it all matched and it was so sweet and feminine. This vlog reminded me of wonderful memories of her. ❤️😘💋💄
I'm glad you're back and had a fun holiday! You're vanity is so beautiful and you done a great job with all you done. I'm so happy that you love it.❤
wow that vanity is so cute! i love looking in Charity shops for vintage things. i found a stunning vintage 50's compact in one and after researching it found out it was made in my home city. cant wait to see some more renos :D
I'm so glad that you didn't lose the drawer. :)
Love, love, love how this turned out!! It looks so perfect and you were so smart to do separate panels on the front to still leave access to the drawer!!
Aw thanks so much! Xx
Hi 🙂 just want to say how pleasant your English is to listen to. I am from the Czech Republic (middle Europe) and I study English. Apart from enjoying your videos, I enjoy the true elegance And smoothness od your voice❤️🌹 thank you :)
Nice! I've been wanting a vanity or to take a vanity. This is inspirational. And I also love Christine McConnell.
Yayyy your back!! ❤️
I have a actual vanity that I adore because it fits under the bedroom window so I can sit there and apply my makeup by natural sunlight.I also had a Clairol makeup mirror already when I found my vanity so I have it sitting beside the vanities mirror - it has a natural side and a magnified side, and it lights up.It also has an outlet on top so I can plug in my hair curler right at the mirror. The bad thing about my vanity is that we have a mission style bedroom set and the vanity is very Louis XVI so they don't go together. However, if I use your skirt idea all but the top of it would be covered - and I'll just paint that to match the bedroom. Looks like I need a trip to the fabric store for fabric & velcro. I don't have a vanity seat, I use a card table seat, which I had made a slip cover for. I think I'll look for two coordinating fabrics for the vanity & the chair, and make a new slip cover. Seems like a fun project. How much fabric did you need to go around your table?
Oh that’s sounds like heaps of fun!!! 💕 I used about 3 metres to cover my vanity. Xx
Your vanity is adorable! I remember when I had one similar. Your videos always bring back my favorite memories.
I love your channel. Brings back so many memories of my Grams and Pop Pop. He was in the navy, she was a house wife. Pictures of them from the 30's, 40's, 50's.... Dashing and Beautiful. I had recently (@ 43) started vintage clothing shopping....AND lucky enough to have Grams' cedar chest with a few items....am making a switch. Gradually. Thank you for your tips...and your channel!!
I'm glad you're back and I absolutely just love that vanity it's so pretty and feminine
So very glad you are back Sage !! Your vanity dressing table is absolutely adorable...just like you !! Glad you had a lovely holiday ! Happy New Year !
Soooooo happy to see you again...my dear friend!!! Georgia💕💕💕💕
Nice to have you back Sage. You had a lucky find on the little table and you gave it a new lease on life. Bedrooms are so small and we ladies have no rooms for a vanity dressing table.
I absolutely love your new vanity! It’s soo extra special when you put all your labor and love into it! Enjoy 😊
That turned out absolutely beautiful! It's so charming and authentic.
I love your vanity table. What a great idea! It looks like a real vintage vanity and is so beautiful!
I had that vanity chair. That really brings back memories. Mine had an olive green seat and I used it as a desk chair in my bedroom to do my homework 😀
Sage, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, you are so soothing to watch! Welcome back, I’m so stoked to have new content from you
Aw that means so much, thank you! 🥰💕
You can scrape off the finish, sand, tack cloth, oxalis acid to remove any water stains that remain. Sand and tack and apply 2 coats of wood oil!
This worked out so well. I’m glad you gave a special piece a good home.
So good to have you back…you’re so talented, this is a brilliant idea and so well thought out and made. You’re totally inspiring. Lots of love xxx
Delightful! I love that all or your projects seem so accessible, yet very authentic.

You are such an inspirational, hard worker! congratulations, the new corner looks beautiful and very cozy. It is refreshing to see how you have been carefully planning and considering your needs, and working for it. It's so nice to watch you earn it in these times of fast-track deliveries and it shows that good work and patience really pay off.
This is a timely video! I'm getting ready to redo our bathroom and I want to add a vanity but wasn't sure what way to go. I love the curtain idea! Good to see you back again ❤️
