  • Hello Darlings! I meant to upload this video last week, but I ended up feeling overwhelmed with the amount I had to do for the bathroom reno! I made a 1940's pleated lampshade inspired by old photographs and a 1980's Laura Ashley decorating book! I hope you enjoy this laid back chatty/crafty video.
    Be sure to let me know if you make your own vintage inspired lampshade too! Get ready as next weeks video will be a Christmassy one!!
    Lots of love,
    Sage Xx

    Sage is your name after all! Very simple to re wire the lamp, I did one myself using a kit I bought at our large retail store, Walmart!

    • @JB-vd8bi
      @JB-vd8bi Рік тому +1

      This is most likely illegal to do in Australia. We have very strict laws regarding diy electrical work. Being able to buy the kit doesn't mean you're licensed to do the task

    • @GenXLostInTx
      @GenXLostInTx Рік тому

      @@JB-vd8bi what an odd law. When I researched it the most common answer had to do with changing light bulbs. I can’t imagine needing help with something like that. Although, the way things are made can vary greatly from place to place. I’ll describe this to you, just so it is clear that I did not do any “electrical” work on the lamp by replacing the wire. The wire and bulb holder in an American lamp comes completely encased in every lamp. There may be a screw at the bottom to loosen the wire and also will unscrew from the top. It just slides out as if it were no different than a rope, and you slide another(it is a completed piece that needs no extra work on it) through the hole in the lamp base and secure into place. I’m not actually qualified to do actual electrical work, like something with connecting/splicing of wires etc., like in a ceiling fan or stationary wall lamp, and would never try working on electricity itself in any way.

    • @JJoy-bk8yr
      @JJoy-bk8yr Рік тому +1

      It's likely Australian home wiring is higher voltage than in the U.S., thus making a different kind of wiring necessary, with more safeguards. I've rewired lamps here in the U.S. with kits from Amazon, very easily, with no special training. Most American circuits are 120V and appliances are designed for that (with 220V circuits for some special appliances), but many other countries use a lot higher voltage for their circuits and all the appliances have to be able to withstand it.

    • @GenXLostInTx
      @GenXLostInTx Рік тому +2

      @@JJoy-bk8yr It is interesting indeed, I wanted to be clear I wasn’t suggesting Sage break the law but that it is different here than there.

    I recently moved into my parent's home a year ago; it was my granny's home originally. The main house was built in the late 40s. Then, after my granny had more children and a storm damaged the roof, my grandfather built the upstairs. The addition was built in the 70s and has not been updated; I love it. I grew up in this house and spent a lot of time with my granny; she taught me to sew around 4. She was a fantastic seamstress and quilter, making me many quilts and clothes. I am now remodeling my room into the 1940s/1950s style. My bathroom is staying in its 1970s original style with some new additions, and my sewing room, which was my granny's, is being updated with a 1970s or 60s look. I want the upstairs to look like you are stepping into the past. I'm thinking about filming it all and posting it, I just have anxiety and don't know if anyone would even care to see it.

    Great video as I am making some lamp shades for my vintage Coleman lamps. We are so used to perfection but I prefer hand made, repurposed and a little rustic wear and tear that adds to the charm. I love the 1910-1940s and have a full den and kitchen setup.
    Would love to see more thrifting and repurposing videos as well! I also love to cook and collect old cookbooks and do some sewing on an electric and a 1911 hand crank Singer.

    Greetings from the U. S.A. ...I had to smile and chuckle to myself about " the Green " ... 🙂😊.... I do like the colour green, I noticed for the past 12 years, I've used it more and more ....lol. I even purchased a drop down secretary desk , off Marketplace, and it's a sort of shade of " not bright " apple Green shade , with gold painted trim. I have no intention of changing the color, lol, because I actually have throw pillows in almost the same shade.
    I enjoy your showing us your projects, and no one is really concerned about the ' consistency ", Miss Sage ! I love seeing that you posted something, whenever you have time to do so.
    By the way, your hair looks fabulous the way it's styled here. A lot of women, in the 1950's actually wore stylish trousers and a lovely top or sweater ,and a stylish loafer shoe, or something similar.
    So whatever you're wearing ' on the daily " still offers you that " look ".
    :) ( if you take a look at Fashions of Grace Kelly when she wore trousers , as well as stylish women of that time, you'll see how fashionable and put together they were even though they were wearing trousers.)
    Stay Blessed, you and James and looking forward to the next Video ,whenever that may be ! 🙂😊🙏🏻☕️

      I have to agree - even though I was a hippie at the time - the "fashions" of the 70's were just awful. It seems all I ever wore were bib overalls with a tube top under it in the summer and a flannel shirt in the winter.

    Your lamp looks wonderful, Sage! I'm a big fan of green like you, too! Love & hugs from Arkansas ♥️

    This is perfect! I have several old lamps that need new lampshades. The shade frames are still good, but the coverings are destroyed. Thank you for the how-to!
