Such a cute pattern. I want to share a few things I find helpful when making gathers in case you have novice sewers out there. One is to sew two rows of gathering stitches instead of just one. Not only is it helpful to already have that “bonus” thread if one breaks, but I find it is easier to pull two threads than just one.
The second tip is to be sure to pull the bobbin thread as you gather. It seems to be a bit looser, therefore it pulls more easily. I usually pull on one end of the thread until I get to the middle, then I pull on the other end until it meets where the first one stops.
Happy sewing, everyone!
I love this so much! I am the proud owner of a beautiful vintage and/or handmade apron collection and now I'm going to make a ton of my own! Lol. I have a feeling that everyone that I know will be gifted handmade aprons this year. Lol.
Her heart pins are so cute. She really makes everything so pretty and adorable.
This is so great! What an adorable apron.. love the ruffley heart bodice and pocket so much! Also love the retro color of your sewing machine 😍 Even the little heart pins you used were so cute! Another lovely video.. best channel on UA-cam, hands down!💕
Aw you are too sweet, thank you!!
When I saw the title of this video, I said, YES!!!!!!!
I love that fabric pattern, it’s pretty. 😊 Really looking forward to making my own aprons.
Wow I love the apron idea! You should start your own clothing line for the 1950s! I would definitely buy! Hope to see more! 😊😁👀
Aw I'm flattered, thanks! :)
I absolutely love this video! Everything from the music, to the cinematography, to the pattern of the fabric you used, its all so beautiful! Thank you for creating such a work of art! It was the perfect thing to watch cuddled up under a blanket on this rainy Sunday. ♥️
Thank you so much for explaining the crossover straps! I've always wanted an apron where the straps cross over at the back but I've never actually known how to do it. Mum has promised me we'll make me a cute apron once her sewing stuff is set up (she recently moved house). I'd do it by myself...but the last time I touched a sewing machine it was 20 years ago in school and I was distinctly in the not-gifted student category :(
So cute. If you do two rows of gathering stitches the gathers behave a little better That's what my grandma drilled into me when we made skirts.
Oh that's a great tip from your grandmother, thank you!
Thank you! I appreciate all the attention to detail as a novice. The apron is so pretty. I was looking to buy one similar. I should just make it. 🌸
It's heaps of fun and great experience making your own apron! And each time you wear it, you appreciate it more because you made it yourself!
Yay!! Ive been wating for this since you started the cooking through the decades series. Thanks for another great video! Cant wait to make mine!
Thanks so much for watching! :)
I have two vintage aprons: one I found at an antique store and the other was handmade by my grandmother. It's very lightweight, almost handkerchief material. Thanks for the tutorial.
Oh wow! The idea with the loops in the waist is amazing! I will do that on my next apron. So smart. I always had to button the shoulder steaps to the waist
Glad it was helpful! I know it makes it so easy to do up each time you wear it! :)
I did it! I made not one but two very cute aprons, using an old black tablecloth with scalloped edges (very handy for making a fancy bottom edge with zero effort, lol).
I made them during the latest Melb lockdown for my daughter and I, as a little project while she was home schooling. She said it was boring because she's 6 and I couldn't let her use the sewing machine, but she's very pleased with the end result.
She also thinks you're very pretty, Sage, and clever at making things.
Thanks for this tutorial, it was like riding a bicycle as I haven't sewn with a machine since high school, but I remembered a lot along the way (particularly how bad I am at sewing a waistband!)
Might try my hand at pants next, from your other tutorial :)
Aww your message made me smile!! That is so lovely to hear you made two cute aprons, yayy!! I hope you both get lots of wear out of them and good luck with all your future sewing endeavours! Sending love to you and your daughter xxx
This was the most comprehensive set of instructions Ive seen so far! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Fab apron. I sort of expected a laptop you use to have a mechanical keyboard, and be made of bakelite though 🙂
Oh my gosh that one apron is so precious 😍 the little heart shape and frills. Cuuute.
Прелестный получился фартук, а вы сами еще прелестнее🎉
I suggest always making at least two gathering lines, and three makes it even less likely that you'll accidentally catch something you didn't want to sew. Then one you've sewn it all, just remove the third row of gathering.
This is the prettiest apron I have ever seen! I'm at a loss for words.
Really Enjoyed watching U design & create/make this Apron!!! It's Cute, although I think I prefer the two (pink & blue) that U showed at the beginning of your video... This was Great, as I recently bought several cheap Aprons & several Vintage Apron patterns, in order to create Vintage Style Aprons out of very plain, no frills, modern things... I love the Ruffles!!! As, sadly, I haven't a body form /mannequin to put the Apron on, your trying on the Aprons helped me decide how I'd like mine to look. I haven't done any sewing in quite a few years, so this is "dipping my toes in the water" to see whether it'll get me back to it, or whether I'll simply leave the sewing to others & just shop for bargains. Thx again for the Wonderful Video!!! Really Appreciate it!!! ♡♡♡♡
That pincushion is adorable!!!!
Thank you! 💕
I love it!!! You make it look so easy! I really like the bedsheet idea and I'll have to see if Goodwill carries old sheets! Maybe I'll raid my mom's linen closet to see what I can find! Lol. That could be some really vintage finds and it holds up in the laundry!
Sounds like a good idea!! :)
I shall definitely be making one! I'll also make one for my Granma.
I love pinking shears, they're a huge time saver,. Very cute apron, I like the heart front, so sweet. Thank you Sage for the video sweetie 💕🥰💕

You should look into making and selling PDF downloadable patterns for vintage and retro style clothing! It's really hard to find any decent patterns right now and I bet you could really corner that market. This apron is super cute. 💖
What a great idea, thank you so much! 💕 I have thought about it a few times, I just have to get my act together and make it happen! Haha 😂
How adorable is this! 😍
Thank you for sharing an enjoyable video! I get the feeling ironing is under-rated, yet with just that little effort it makes such a difference. All my best to you in your nursing career.
Yes ironing is very under-rated! 😂
And thank you so much! ☺️
Since subscribing to your channel, I’ve started to wear aprons. Ironically bought over 10 years ago but never really worn them, too nice! Got fed up with dealing with grease/tomato stains on my clothes, after watching you, the apron came out of the drawer!!
This turned out so great! It's definitely inspiring me to make one
How lovely! I would never have the patience for this but you did a wonderful job 💜
