I went from hippie to vintage. As a teenager I was really into Woodstock music, 60s social activism and culture (minus the drugs haha). I was already interested in earlier decades as well but it didn't really occur to me that you could dress as if you jumped out of a Carry Grant movie. I think it also would have been too 'mature' of a look for me at the time. I did have a tiny heavy metal phase in-between. Then back to hippie. Now I am in my 30s and loving the 1930s-50s. The style is just the right amount of classy and playful, gives me confidence and it is just really fun! It's like age-appropriate dress-up haha
I was born 1944 and I absolutely love seeing how you are recreating the 1950's Teens and Women in the '50's tinted their hair with powdered Henna, which came in a gelatin capsule. The routine was to dump the capsule contents in a container of water and pour it over one's hair after shampooing. Lemon squeezed into a final rinse also was used to combat the alkalinity of shampoos. Other things from the very late '40's - early '50's were CARE packages to Europe, Oreo margarine in a bag with a packet of yellow food dye (butter was still restricted for years after WWII ended). Families only had one car. We still grew veggies in aVictory Garden behind our house until early '50's. No air-conditioning so families sat outside - either on city stoops/stairs or country porches. Stayed outside as long as possible until the night temps dropped. Hand fans while sitting in church with windows open to the breeze. Spam and eggs. Stockings and garter belts - pantyhose was seen as extravagant when it first was introduced. My father bought the first TV in our neighborhood in order to watch Queen Elizabeth II Coronation! - and half our Bronx neighbors crowded into our Living Room. Children played outside unsupervised until streetlights came on. Children ate at meals and no snacking. Monday was wash day. Tuesday was ironing. Clothes were hung on the line to dry according to size and category (sheets, shirts, towels, and last - socks). neighbors judged each other according to their laundry. Our pantry was always full of preserved fruits and veggies until late 1950's. TV antennae's on the roof, that the poor men risked their lives adjusting .Windows were cleaned with Johnson and Johnson glass wax and old newspapers. All women knew how to sew. The first half of the '50's was quite different from the 2nd half of the decade.

Hi Sage, You are absolutely adorable in ANYTHING you wear. Girlfriend, You have so much class and style you could easily make Hefty Garbage Bags look so fashionable and trendy. Your beauty shines inside and out. 🌺
This was a very interesting video about your style evolution. In the 2010s, I was very interested in the 1920s styles. I had been watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries from ABC, and loved her hair, and clothes! I had my hair bobbed, and tried to dress in what I thought were 1920s style clothes. I bought a few cloche hats, and wore them almost everywhere! When Covid hit in 2020, I couldn't go to the hair dresser anymore, so it grew longer, and I tried some 1940s style updos, and wore a bandana on my head, like Rosie the Riveter! I started curling my hair, and arranging it in various styles. Now I just curl my fringe, and put the rest up into a pony tail. I wear jeans with the cuffs turned up, and a nice top. I suppose my current style is 50s casual. I don't have any vintage clothes, but use what I have. I haven't gone to a store for three years! The cost of living is way up because of Covid and the War in Ukraine, so we make do and mend! Mom says the way we live now reminds her of the dirty 30s when she was a child. There is gas rationing, now, and we don't do a lot of driving. Anyway, I feel as though we are all living in the 1940s during the war! ~Janet in Canada
I'm a bit late, but I used to dress (and still do at times) more hippie-ish and now I'm moving to a more 50s style. So it's cool to see another vintage dresser like me! :)
I love vintage because I grew up listening to old radio programs, watching old television shows, and getting into old jazz, big band, and crooner music. However, I dressed hippie in high school, and then halfway through I became goth (everything dark and spooky). While I love vintage and sometimes wish I had made that plunge, I ended up decorating my house vintage, but remaining goth. I like your channel because you don't just dress vintage, you also do a lot of research into past decades, as I have done and still like to do. Thank you for showing your style evolution. I can't wait for the next video.
I too wish I was Shirley Temple. I’m 17, and currently dress (almost) full time vintage, so I really enjoy this video. It gives me hope that someday I’ll be as good at vintage hair as you are 😂
Do you see yourself wearing vintage for the rest of your life now, or do you ever think that there will come a day when you want to go back to the modern day styles? I think it's adorable by the way, I was just wondering because you seem to be a very curious and explorative person when it comes to different styles.
I think all of us dressing vintagey now went through a weird transitional stage where we didn't have/couldn't afford many actual vintage or retro pieces and didn't know how to do our hair or makeup XD
As someone who went through this, this is on point. I went from wanting to dress like a founding father(A.K.A. Hamilton) (so many cardigans) to wearing a mix of modern basic clothes and trying to get a somewhat 50s look. Then in most of college it was button ups and khaki pants. Last year I recently wore more skirts and now have a style of 1940s woman or 1910s man(shirt, suspenders, and khakis). This was when I really got the vintage style more refined. :)
Be kind to yourself. ♥️ Whether that’s your past self, current or thinking of yourself in the future, be super, super kind. Nothing wrong with the clothing in any of these periods. Many of us don’t realize it & many just think it’s ridiculous to understand that, a negative thought, speech or action against one’s self or others deeply impacts human psyche. You carry this with you, it compounds, it shapes ideas, beliefs & dictates, the more you “negative”, how one feels about themselves, how well they’ll truly care for themselves & the ways they feel & care for others; often times putting other ppl well before themselves. It really does make all the difference to speak about yourself as you would anyone else you want to see having a positive opinion & outlook on themselves. Far more than we’re taught, for sure. -Sage was beautiful in every single picture & she continues to be.
Awww it makes me so sad to see you looking back at your past self with so much unhappiness. You might not have been as put together as you are now but you were still beautiful. Absolutely not a drowned rat. So happy you found the fashion that makes you feel good about yourself, as well as looks awesome!!! All the best!
I'm almost 55 years old and would say my style is frumpy, old grandma 👵 so I really enjoy watching your videos. You have such a cute style and way about you!
This is the video I needed. Thank you Sage! It made my day better knowing that somebody I look up to went through the awkward style transition that I am currently going through. Please never stop posting videos!
I’m so glad I ran into your channel! I also used to dress like a hippie then I transitioned into vintage and I get so many compliments. When I dress down people don’t even recognize me lol.
I wouldn’t look back with all the knowledge you have now, I’d look back at all the fun you had and how much joy each phase brought you…each step was a transition into where you are know. Be kind to yourself.❤️
Ahhh this is on my list of to-dos as well, it's been eleven years since I first started my blog waaay back when and it'd be so fun to look through. Also I didn't care about fashion till I was about 20, can relate so much. I can't stop giggling at the socks and sandals combo. Your hair looks glorious in this video!
i am in the beginning stages of dressing vintage! i love finding vintage pieces and styling them to my liking. This video inspired me to not give up on my style because at the moment my style is quite messy looking since I am just starting! thank you for this video xx
What a wholesome leap into beauty! Gosh, I wish I knew what Aussie phrase might be right, but from a USA vantage point, you certainly have us beaten for your embrace of something wonderful. I think you have really done a great job with your style, and chosing your own direction. That's confidence, and it has served you well! And I love your greeting - "hello darlings!' - so sweet.
Girl! You're simply adorable, even in your "cringy" stage! I recently found you and have just been binging! Love your videos, they're such a relaxing treat 😌 💕 Btw...I'm 37 and I have ZERO style lol! I just wear anything (mostly leggings and sweaters) 😂
I’ve always loved wearing swing dresses and petticoats. My mother and grandmother always dressed so beautifully and I’m just following in their footsteps. My husband loves me dressing vintage and I adore wearing it ❤️👗👠
Great video, your beautiful in every picture. I think the accessories are a huge part of completing the vintage look. My grandma had a huge jewelry box full of "costume" jewelry. I think it would be interesting to see a video about how to accessorize a vintage look. Shoes, belts, scarves, jewelry, hair combs etc by the decades! Lol. I just realized how much work that would be. Maybe a series?
Love seeing the change over time. Im old (57) now. I just wear what's comfortable. I love the vintage look. Finding the clothes and shoes seems to be the hardest part. Thanks for sharing!
hello Sage! Im really having a good time waching your lifestyle and you re such an ispiration. for the most time of my life I didnt have a specific style. i would call my style casual trendy, I didnt put any intention on it. the last years while I was doing inner work I came to the conclusion that putting an efford on your looks is not superficial and selfish but an act of self love. Now I can say that I love romantic and minimal style (not a lot of things in my wardrobe but I love all of them). Also I did a color analysis with a stylist and changed all my perspective about my beauty (black and bright white is very very overpowering and now I never wear them). I would definitely recomment you to do your color analysis. your skin reminds me of mine and maybe your are in the same color season as me (soft autumn) but I am not an expert. I understand your love for the red lipstick but I think a warmer and softer red shade will enhance your beauty! :) Lots of kisses and best wishes from Greece! :)
So Nice to see how you got into the fifties style step by step! 😊❤ I am 53 years old now in 2023 and I was always fond of different clothing and colours since I was a teenager in the eighties. I love sweet flowerdresses, lace and this spring I finally bought my first swing dresses in a vintage shop with new items and accesoiries and I love them; where them every day! 🌹💋🎀 💅🏻I already bought a dress for autumn with longer sleeves and thinking about a petticoat! I really like your vintage home video’s! 😃👍🏻
You’re so pretty! I’ve had a similar transition. I have dressed more hippy ish for years and now this past year I really like dresses that look vintage and want to start making my own.
You look amazing, even growing up! My style these days is like, does it fit, is it comfortable, is it pretty... In that order (I'm 61) I love the clothes from Cracker Barrel lol lots of lace, color, comfort, and it makes me look good so there ya go lol
Always adorable but you’re especially aesthetically delightful now. As in all things, finding yourself as you progress is the sign of a life well lived.
I'm currently trying to revamp my wardrobe from slobby tees, leggings, and zero style to that of a more 60s "peacock revolution" look and it's proving to be very fun but difficult!! It's really nice to see someone's style evolution to see where you've come from and remind myself it won't happen over night, and yeah I'll probably look back and cringe a little BUT I think what's important is that we've embraced ourselves and stepped out!!
Going back and watching all your videos 20 times each or so because you haven't posted in a while haha (your videos are great for the background to get chores done and keep my newborn napping happily). I love your red hair because it feels so on theme, but I do have to say, your brown hair looks amazing on you! If you ever do your color season test, you should make a video on that!
So fun. I am thinking of going vintage! I definitely have my workout clothes as my everyday clothes, then some pretty dresses that don't embody one type of style. I would love to do a 40's early 50's look, for when I go out anywhere. I'm starting to learn to sew, and hope to sell this style of clothing one day! You are so cute and funny and NOT boring! We all love you, have fun!
i'm late to the party but i find this so inspiring in a way, i'm coming out of my hippy fashion sense (still have the mindset, i always will) and am leaning more toward the 50s style, it's awesome to see that this happened to someone else lol !!!
I binge watch your videos when I get depressed cuz you always make me smile. This is the best uplifting video! Funny that I feel like I can relate to your fashion fumbles! 🇺🇸🌻💜
Aw man, this is inspiring! I don’t know exactly what style I wanna go for still, but it just makes me wanna put more thought into what I wear. And why commit to one style? Why not alllll the styles!
This is so sweet and inspiring! It's such a great video and message, no matter what era or style someone is gravitating towards - to take it slowly, add pieces as you find them, lean into what you love and what suits you most, and then let go of what no longer suits you as your style emerges. I love this!
You were very brave to share those photos with us, Sage. They’re not as bad as you think. We all went through questionable fashions as teenagers before we find what works for us. I was a teenager in the 1960s; you should see some of the outfits I wore!! You definitely hit your stride. I enjoy your videos very much.
It was neat to see how your style evolved. I love flare jeans and wide legs pants still. But I’ve always loved the vintage style, don’t think I would commit to it. IT was a time when people cared how they looked and took time to look good and not like they just fell out of bed.
In the Brighton picture the cut of the jeans looks just like mom's jeans in the late 1950's. Very cool. She had regular jeans like these, and for winter she had some that were lined with plaid flannel. You look adorable!
I’ve been thinking about going vintage for a while now. Watching your videos and reading up on different 1950s 40s and 30s styles is helping me make my decision to convert to a vintage lifestyle.
Thank you very much for your story, you made it very clear, visual and fun. 😂 you are a very inspiring person and your videos motivate me to come up with something new in my vintage routine, thank you so much Sage. 😊 I wish you strength and patience in your studies and inspiration in your work. ❤
I think vintage 1940's, 1950's style definitely suits you. That clothing style flatters your figure. I laughed at the outtakes- thank you for leaving them in. Your channel is the best escape! Thank you.
I dress a blend of true vintage, modern vintage and tomboy. Currently just working on the homestead, so I don’t really want to destroy good clothing farming and working on the vehicles so old T-shirt’s and board shorts are most commonly worn this time of year. When I do have the chances to go out, I like to dress up. I’m intimidated by doing hair and make up as I never really learned how to from someone and YT (and your tutorials) have been a great help!
I’m laughing at your commentary. I dress vintage (recreation) a couple times a week. My biggest struggle wanting to exercise in public the morning but not being able to go because I’ve got a wet set!!!! 😫 Everything literally revolves around my hair.
You always look like a million bucks!! Always lovely! For some reason, we can be so critical of ourselves! I love your style and think vintage suits you, but what I love most is your genuine joyfulness and the fun you create!
I remember when Gunne Sax dresses were "in" and I soooo wanted one! But my mother thought they were a passing trend and were too frilly. So, I sort of went a more tailored plain Jane boring route... but I do love your current look. I really enjoy your videos! And you do have some very cute vintage style trousers.
I'm so excited. I've been thinking about trying to dress vintage I was just hesitant because I love pants. Pants are an amazing staple I feel very free and safe to romp. But in a dress, I'm a bit more afraid of sitting wrong. But your videos have kinda shown you can still love cute and vintage in pants so I'm all in!
I love this!!! I myself am a fan of vintage fashion, but my best friend loves hippie and 80’s fashion. I love your channel! You make the best videos!!! ❤️
That is quite a transformation! The vintage style suits you so perfectly. You look younger and sparkling! And I love Shirley's 1940s style too! I've been wearing vintage for about 12 years now and she's definitely one of my style icons! I actually have a couple of her dresses!
I truly adore you, and am so happy I found your channel. My 2 year old granddaughter likes you too. You look lovely in your vintage clothes. Keep it up!! God bless.

Love that you’re comfortable with your current style though, and enjoying the process 🙂
This was great! I love the comment on Twilight haha. It reminds me of myself. You have the perfect hair my goodness! I have gone from emo to punk to goth to vintage to goth again and now at 28 I’m Neo Victorian and Edwardian with also full Victorian in the afternoon and on Sundays that includes corset bustle and everything. It looks like you have found a style you are so happy with which is wonderful and I absolutely adore your videos.

Can definitely relate to the Twilight phase!!! Haha I am a regular style type of person but I have noticed myself watching videos of vintage styles, looking at Pinterest, and buying piece that look more vintage!
You have definitely got the vintage look going for you, it really suits you. I've never followed fashion either. I loved hippy clothes and stopped wearing them when they became trendy. I've been wearing pinup for a few years but find vintage comfortable. I've recently found some bed jackets and nightgowns and it is a slow process but it's fun. Can't seem to get the hair right though 😕
It’s funny how many vintage lovers come from that 2000s “emo” look. I’ve never seen someone come from a hippie look!

I think you looked adorable no matter what you wore. You’re just beautiful and built so lovely. You pull all the styles off. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR VINTAGE STYLE!!!
I wish there were some days where the whole world could dress up and live like this. It’s beautiful ♥️♥️♥️
I'm almost 55 years old and would say my style is frumpy, old grandma 👵 so I really enjoy watching your videos. You have such a cute style and way about you!
aw, this is such a sweet comment. it made me smile
Heheheh so much fun looking back! Yes, I can’t wait to see one from you! Thanks so much Kristina 😊💕
i am in the beginning stages of dressing vintage! i love finding vintage pieces and styling them to my liking.
Love your videos, they're such a relaxing treat 😌 💕
Btw...I'm 37 and I have ZERO style lol!
What a great idea!
Style evolutions are so fun! Most people really are constantly changing!
I love wearing vintage! I'm more of a 1965-1975 era dresser, so I really loved your peasant blouse! 🤣
I just discovered your channel a few days ago. You are adorable! Like a time traveler. Thanks for sharing your incredible style with this subscriber.
I love your original hair color! The 50's hairstyles is what I love the most!! They are so beautiful and timeless!
The clothes from cracker barrel 😍😍😍😍
Cracker Barrel sells clothes??
@@dianaking1106 yes. I work in the gift shop and they have Beautiful clothes!
Always adorable but you’re especially aesthetically delightful now. As in all things, finding yourself as you progress is the sign of a life well lived.
I love your style before and now. I have a variety of styles. I also love vintage
You are Now Queen of the 50s Lovely. God Bless keep up the good work.
You looks so cute in all the pictures! The one at 5:45 could be from a magazine. So chic!
We're so hard on ourselves! I think you had a lovely trajectory to where you are now!
You look positivity radiant. pretty and happy with your newer look / outlook on style, etc .
I love your hair when it's brown and curly, you look adorable.
i'm late to the party but i find this so inspiring in a way, i'm coming out of my hippy fashion sense (still have the mindset, i always will) and am leaning more toward the 50s style, it's awesome to see that this happened to someone else lol !!!
Oh I'm so glad I could inspire you! Yes exactly, you don't have to choose one era, you can wear all the styles that's so much fun! 😊💕
I had a Gunne Sax dress too and i loved it!
It's funny as we look back at photos and think, what the heck was i wearing-lol!
That post twilight phase pause lmaooo. Do a lot of us relate sadly I have photos
It was neat to see how your style evolved. I love flare jeans and wide legs pants still. But I’ve always loved the vintage style, don’t think I would commit to it. IT was a time when people cared how they looked and took time to look good and not like they just fell out of bed.
This channel makes me happy! Thank you for always brightening my day ♥️
In the Brighton picture the cut of the jeans looks just like mom's jeans in the late 1950's. Very cool. She had regular jeans like these, and for winter she had some that were lined with plaid flannel. You look adorable!
Your content is so good. You can start your own vintage clothing inspired brand. Those eras had so much good in them in every way.
I’ve been thinking about going vintage for a while now. Watching your videos and reading up on different 1950s 40s and 30s styles is helping me make my decision to convert to a vintage lifestyle.
This girl has very rare ideas in her videos but I think it is great. Keep being yourself. That in itself is unique in todays world.
Thank you very much for your story, you made it very clear, visual and fun. 😂 you are a very inspiring person and your videos motivate me to come up with something new in my vintage routine, thank you so much Sage. 😊 I wish you strength and patience in your studies and inspiration in your work. ❤
This was so fun!!! I wore a Gunne Sax gown to a formal dance at my high school. They were all the rage in the late 70s.
I love your videos. Vintage life and dresses were so beautiful, dainty, modest , feminine and you look fabulous in them. Keep posting them.
😂😂😂
What's a wet set?
@@martinemikita9281 Hair is up in curls and damp, waiting on it to dry.
Sage you look so lovely! Hope you're well!
Hi, I'm so glad I found your channel. You are wonderful.
Many greetings from warm and sunny Germany.☀️
I love it, how you were talking about the twilight stage😂 I remember that stage.
The twilight phase !! Same here 😂😂 always had to put on some glitter 😂 so embarrassing now…but hey I am not alone here 😅
I love this!!!
God bless.
Wow a few of those photos look like they were authentic 70s photos!!! I actually really liked some of your previous outfits (including your hair pulled back and long!!) and loved the photos of you in the car and with that fur coat!! Love that you’re comfortable with your current style though, and enjoying the process 🙂
Aww thank you! Hehe you are very sweet! 💕
Oh my gosh - your glitter Twilight stage. That's hilarious. I liked seeing your style evolution. The shorter hair really made a change!
Hi Sage, as always you always look beautiful and always with a smiling face. Thank you for sharing ❤️💕
You looked gorgeous when you had the pale blue dress with the curls at the front.. it reminds me of allie in the notebook the hairstyle you had 😍
Sage you are stunning, and always have been. Love the photos! 😁
You look as lovely now as you did then...like most of us we grow a bit wiser....on fashion & food. Take care & hugs.....from PA in USA
Excellent walk through the past. I'm soglad you are comfortable enough to show the phases of you!
So much fun!! Thank you for doing this! I LOVE watching the style journey. So cute! You were adorable all the way through and very lovely in your style now. Keep making great vids!
The vintage style looks really great on you! ❤ always interesting to see how people's styles evolve
I saw savers in one of your pics, i used to love shopping at savers with my sister, mom, and grandmother!
Really enjoyed this, it’s so fun looking back! I’m trying to dress more vintage now and it’s good to know that it takes time to get there ❤️
Your videos are very enjoyable...I appreciate the time you spend in making them...your personality is so bubbly...my favorite style is vintage Laura Ashley....I also enjoy wearing April Cornell...
thank you for lettog us come into your world...
Can definitely relate to the Twilight phase!!! Haha
I am a regular style type of person but I have noticed myself watching videos of vintage styles, looking at Pinterest, and buying piece that look more vintage!
I just loved seeing the progression of your look. You really have it together and look lovely in the vintage style. Thanks for sharing!
I love this so much! I’m personally in between styles right now- going from casual to a more gothic style. So different, but same-same!
I am so smitten with you Sage, you are always so pleasant and wonderful. Your attitude is super attractive with any style you choose.
