(I know this is 2 years later but I've only just found this) I find if you made the outer tunnel metallic instead of matte, then you get these really cool reflections of the light, almost like gravitational lensing.

Hello Kev, recently Blender has been updated to its 4.1 version. But now as a result of that, the Musgrave texture has been replaced with a noise texture. My question is if you will be making an updated Blender time vortex tutorial to fit this new version of Blender.
When I change the detail on the musgrave node all it does is chan ge the emmission, and I have checked back several times to see if I missed anything and I didn't. Do you know why iot wont allow me to change the detail?
@@KevBinge I do like seeing your work, this warp effect was great for my project. I have made a little video and posted it on to my UA-cam account I have credit you for people to check your account for new and exciting content.
Hey Kev, I've been watching your videos since i found Blender (among some others). But when i seen your video about being burned out, i thought to myself..... "man... no way..." Only question...I want the transparency (for reasons) but do not want to see the tunnel down the line showing through the part of the tunnel I'm actually in (17:11). How do I achieve that?
@@KevBinge No. I want to see outside the tunnel. Basically, if the light is coming through the tunnel once (outside) I want transparency. If the light is coming directly from sections of the tunnel and going through the tunnel again I want that part to not show at all. At 17:11, you can see upcoming sections of the tunnel in the upper right through the tunnel walls. I don't want that. Sorry I can't explain better.
Ahhh... Thanks for the clarification. A really quick way to do that would be to add in geometry with a dark or matte shader around those parts of the tunnel. If it’s tight enough it won’t obscure the transparency in other areas. You could also try adding another tunnel on top with transparency but having the transparency controlled with a layer weight node or fresnel based in glancing angle. That’s a bit tricky but could work too.
Maybe try putting a color ramp with a gradient texture and then a mapping and texture cords nodes, with the camera cords plugged into the mapping node. and played with the rotation on the mapping and color ramp node until you get something
Hi ! thank you so much for the tutorial ! i try to render it but i only the first frame is rendering , any ideas why ? I put the correct frame start and end and everything but nothing .. I tried with both video and images but still only first frame
I was wondering, is there a way to kind of hide the tunnel on the outside of the vortex? I'm thinking of recreating the Doctor Who vortex (2005-2010) and in it the distance of the vortex is short so you dont see the path the vortex is going on just wanted to know if it's possible?
You could try to not have transparency. You could also keyframe the extrusion of the tunnel to “ride with” the camera, so it wouldn’t be built yet in front of the camera.
Didn't you remove the alpha channel in the outer curve last time so you can't see the tunnel coming? I remember something like that. Also, can you have the depth of the two inner curves on key frames so it sort of pulsates the colours? I might start to get this. lol
I might have but it changed quite a bit as they improved EEVEE. You can play with the alpha for certain. I may need to do another video on that haha! Also, yes. You should be able to keyframe the tunnel width. That would look cool!! Thanks Kiera!
I “believe” as I don’t have a Mac anymore, if you go to edit - preferences, and find a checkbox that says “Emulate Numpad,” you “should” be able to use the top number keys the same way as you would a number pad. See if that helps.
I rendered my tunnel and the tunnel doesn't look smooth, in render mode everything's normal, the tunnel turned out like a zig zag tunnel, how do I visualize it, the shape of my tunnel turned out like Z intead of like S, like a very lowpoly snake. Please help
I follow your tutorial and made the animation. However, the playback speed is quite slow. I use eevee and the FPS is always red 7 to 8. My desktop configuration is i9-9900kf @3.6ghz and a Rtx 2070 super. I think it is adequate but why it is so slow?
@@KevBinge I just found in internet that optic eevee would not support optix but cycle. In your tutorial, I think you also use eevee, why mine is so slow?
If seeing the distant tunnel thru the wall bothers you, duplicate the tunnel again, scale it up, and add a black opaque tunnel with no gloss.
Yes, another black opaque tunnel would work. I like seeing the tunnel, aka Bill and Ted 😀
