Still asking about a sonic mania review
Sonic unleashed doesn't deserve the #1 spot. That goes to sonic adventure 2. Pure nostalgia fuels this
My favourite ending was Sonic CD, the one I'm talking about is the good future where everything looks better than ever!
This may be a weird pick, but I like the ending of Sonic Colors. Sonic running away from the Black Hole was an amazing setpiece, in my opinion, and him getting saved by the Wisps was heartwarming. Once Sonic got back to Earth, Sonic and Tails say their goodbyes to Yacker and then stare into the sky. Sure, it's simple, but I unironically think it works very well.

I mean don’t get me wrong that climax was raw as hell, but I barely cared about the attachment to the wisps, just more victims of Eggman, so it felt good saving them, but also their force into the series has pretty much lost the emotion of the ending.

The final horizon (frontiers update 3) is my favourite sonic ending in my opinion.

Frontiers ending GOT TO BE MY FAVORITE!!!! And no way its worse than unleashed. Tottaly no way at all. We littraly got cyber sonic, an outstanding final boss, eggman calling sage daughter, and I'm with you vocals!!!!
that's the final boss not the ending. I'm sure what would consider the ending of the update is Super sonic crashing back to earth and so on

I think the objective best endings are once again, between Adventure 2, Unleashed, but also Sonic 3/K, and maybe even 06 regardless of how you might feel, as it does give Sonic a good character moment in reassuring letting go is the right thing to do. But I also have to mention Black Knight for giving a great lesson on accepting mortality and that life must be valued while it can, and that’s a lesson from someone who rushes from adventure to adventure, an unexpected moment to soak in…

This but ultimately, my personal favorite will have to go to sa2. where every character just stops and has a moment to reflect on what just transpired. this was probably the first time the heroes and villains legitimately came together to do a good deed (and for eggman that's saying a lot). rouge wonders what shadow really was supposed to be and Sonic replies that it doesn't matter (ha) and that his actions defied who he was and ultimately was a hero in the end. Eggman opens up a bit on how he now see's his hero turned villain grandfather and tails reassures him that the did it together, and that eggman is now his own hero that could potentially do great things just like Gerald used too. Knuckles and rouge put their differences aside and its sort of hinted at that they might get together, sonic actually mourning the loss of a potential friend, Amy tries to comfort him but like always; Sonic doesn't harp on it too long, picks himself up and ready to be on the move again but this time; instead of running, he walks, turns around one last time to say a final farewell. its somber, mature, uplifting as it is sad but very well rewarded after all he action that happened.
Adventure 2 is probably my favorite. An ending I really love and think is underrated, along with its story as a whole, is Heroes.
Is it weird that I unironically love the Sonic Generations ending. I meant don't get me wrong, the game's story wasn't all that, but the ending just hits different
I mean it’s wholesome telling your younger self how great your life will be (regardless of insert meta joke here) even if this now inevitably results in either a split timeline or a indefinite time loop…..

question, if generations was the last sonic game do you think it would have been a solid ending to the series?
I think more people would love this ending more if:
1. the friends were not useless here
2. If there was no comedy
3. the boss fight gameplay would have been much more about action then just slowly approaching
4. the boss fight had some unique and banger track instead of movie bossfight music (i dont count customisable music, that is not unique)
5. if Time Eater was really a threat other then being super loud in the cutscenes before the ending.
6. If those classic babies were not there (i love classic sonic like in cd, but he is here just for the jokes)
7. If the line: Enjoy your future, IT'S GONNA BE GREAT, would not be unintencionally funny and kinda cheesy
8. If there was more cool and dramatic dialogue (take notes from Black Knight)
- I am sorry, but I just dislike this mainline sonic ending the most. Yes, even more then forces. I will not sugarcoat things cuz I just can not, I am happy that you can genuinely like it, no sarcasm.

I felt that when Endless Possibility kicked, I thought on myself "well, that was an *adventure* " and cried. It was *A BIG* adventure, and felt like, what I do now that I saved the Earth.

I loved the endings of Black Knight, Unleashed and SA2 the most. They are so beautiful and you know, it makes me feel something special
How is 06 not here, even as an honorable mention? In the Last Episode Mephiles is at his finest (which is a high bar since Mephiles slaps), the soundtracks are some of the best in the entire franchise BY FAR (Time-Space Rift, The End of the World, Solaris Phase 2, c'mon bro, literal masterpieces), the cutscenes are epicness incarnate and portray the characters so well. Gathering the Emeralds and the fight itself is cool as heck, thematically the story hits you like a truck and the stakes (which have been set up to that point pretty well) have gone off the charts, the universe is collapsing and Sonic LITERALLY dies. And of course the extinguishing of the flames and then the scene of Sonic running through the festival in Soleanna, a scene that is one of if not THE most beautifully shot scenes in the franchise. 06's ending is unapologetically good, it's a crime it's nowhere to be found in this video and an even bigger crime everyone just points and laughs at the kiss scene when pretty much every single other frame in this entire thing is so damn good.
Honestly, Sonic Rush ending after defeating the Egg Salamander in the extra zone really hits hard in the heart, cause throughout the game you see how Blaze who was just cold and isolated started to view the power and friendship and such, and how Sonic told blaze her power's aren't a curse and how its a blessing during the cutscene in the extra zone, blaze finally embracing her power's, using the sol emeralds to turn into Burning Blaze, all of that leading up to the ending where blaze finallt understands the value of having friends and such, it was so beautiful man and the music that played with it, just so good goddamn, i love that ending so much.
Frontiers, CD and Mania in my opinion. and Also most sonic games determined that!
Mania has a good ending until you remember classic is sent into Forces…..

I was crying during the whole unleashed ending. Endless possibilities hit so hard in that moment.
In my opinion my favorite ending to a Sonic Game is the Sonic colors ending. There are definitely other very cool endings to Sonic Games but in my opinion my favorite ending is Sonic Colors. Another ending I like is SA2 and I love that Ending but it was a sad ending to a Sonic Game but Sonic Colors is my favorite Ending to a Sonic game. Great video Matt)
If I were to say currently (I’m still playing the Frontiers Final Update) my favorite ending is Sonic Unleashed since It felt like such an grand journey and scale of the most difficult and challenging stages and reaction times I’ve ever seen in a Sonic Game. My only thing that bums me out about the ending was Sonic not keeping Chip’s Bracelet for future games like it makes SEGA look like they forgot all about him.
Objectively maybe Sonic Adventure 2, Everyone for maybe the only time in the series doesn’t end in The Heroes roasting the Villains or instantly forgetting about what had just occurred to them. Instead, they have a really wholesome ending where they all reflect on what just happened. Eggman questioning his Grandfather’s motives, Rouge mourning Shadow, Sonic actually being at a lost for words which is something that isn’t really seen from him a lot. Even if they were enemies before, you can tell that Shadow really gained his respect for Sacrificing himself to save the entire planet. Amy even asking if he is ok and he just shrugs his emotions off to not appear weak or sad to others is a strong and underrated character moment that is even seen in Sonic Frontiers now. With him even taking one last moment to look at the arc and saying goodbye to Shadow really solidifies it’s placement as one of if not the greatest Sonic Story ever written. (Unleashed is my favorite game too and I’m saying this).
Don’t wanna be one of those people but, Matt you are criminally underrated.
Every video you make has great script writing, great editing and great sonic content over all. It makes me sad that you don’t even have 100k subs

My favorite ending will always be unleashed because by the time I'm at the credits I always feel complete while listening to dear my friend
Unleashed's ending hits hella hard. Chip saying "I'll be here by you, always. A part of the earth you tread" and Sonic just taking a deep breath as he lets his friend go, and he runs off across the sunset as Endless Possibility starts playing in the background, it just hits all the right notes. I will always cherish the friendship these two had. Sonic Unleashed honestly has the best ending of any Sonic game, hands down.
P.S. I saw a fan comic of Sonic on his birthday after Frontiers and everyone was busy, so he dug up Chip's bracelet and spent the day with his spirit. There was a final scene of him talking to Sonic while overlooking a sunset, but it's heartbreaking because he can't hear him. Then there's a final panel where Sonic, for a second, hears Chip saying "happy birthday" and he says "thanks buddy".
Amazing ranking, my personal favourites that i can name from the top of my head are Black Knight, Unleashed, Sonic Adventure 2 and Frontiers DLC

I knew Unleashed would be your N1 pick for the best ending and I can't help but smile, man. While I never played SA2 I know most of the fandom considers it the greatest ending to a Sonic game even...but I, like you, just think Unleashed has a better ending because of its simplicity and because it ends in such a bright, yet bittersweet, but hopeful note and that's peek sonic for me.
I will never forget the first moment when I beat the game and said farewell to chip, watched that beautiful sunrise with Sonic...and when he starts running I would almost feel that wind blowing on my face (insane, I know) and then *deep breath* the one thing that did me in was when Endless Possibilities started playing, I was in freaking tears!!
So cheers to unleashed for having such a bangger of an ending, so simple yet effective at making you feel just good from completing World trotting journey 👏👏👏👏
I would have put Sonic 3 and Knuckles in that category somewhere because you are literally falling from the sky and you're bringing back a treasure that was near and dear to somebody else and clearing your name at the same time.
I love how Sonic is cartoon character yes,but Sonic team didn't limit the story telling, and tackle mature subjects. I think when Sonic story hits it hits different.
Wondered if any fans cried in some of these endings (I did for frontiers update 3, SA2, and unleashed)
I agree with everything that you said for sonic unleashed it is for me the perfect game,plus since i had little baby hands when i first played the game it litteraly took me 3 years just to beat the final QTE where you have to press X 60 times so it was even more rewarding for me
And here I thought "Enjoy your future, it's gonna be great!" was going to be at least top 5

Honestly? For me it's tied between Rush Adventure and Unleashed.
Rush Adventure ends with a battle inside a volcano followed by a nice ending where Blaze and Marine see Sonic and Tails off. It's kinda simple but it's nice and fits the vibe of the game perfectly. It also wraps up the story with no loose ends which is always great.
I don't think i need to explain the ending to Unleashed, we all know it. Rush Adventure is just an underrated and lesser known gem and i wish people would pay it more attention and give it the praise it deserves.
Sonic unleashed means a lot to me, I grew up with the game
I love ALOT of the sonic endings but I will say that I think Sonic Generations, Frontiers, Unleashed, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Colors, Riders Series, Sonic 2 and 3 and Mania, okay there's more but at this point I might as well just say most of them 🤣
I agree with Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed being two of the best endings. They were so profound and very thought provoking. They still are. ❤ Sonic Unleashed moreso thanks to Professor Pickle's speech. ❤ My personal favorite ending was Sonic Heroes. I might be biased here, because Sonic Heroes was the first Sonic game I've ever played(and in my opinion the best Sonic game ever 😊), but I loved the ending where Metal Sonic was defeated, reverted back to his old form and everyone parted ways and then went off to do their own things as if nothing had happened(I don't know why but I've always found that pretty funny), and it all ends with Sonic heading off to his next adventure with Tails and Knuckles following close behind. That always gives me feel good vibes. 😊 Two other endings I loved was Sonic Colors with the wisps helping Sonic get back to Mobius(I know it's often called the earth in the games, but in most other media, it's called Mobius so I call it Mobius)and Yacker saying goodbye to Sonic and Tails before he leaves for his home planet, and Sonic Generations where everyone made it back to Sonic's birthday party and Classic Sonic and Classic Tails bid the gang farewell before heading back home. Then we're treated to a credits that gives us a history of Sonic and it ends with the crowd shouting Happy Birthday Sonic. I just couldn't help but feel giddy inside. ❤ And I think Sonic Frontiers has a good ending too, both with the main story and the dlc, even if I haven't gotten to the end myself yet, I've seen footage. In fact I don't think there was a Sonic game I've played where I thought the ending was disappointing. Even with Sonic Forces(and I'll be honest, I wasn't too crazy about the game), I didn't feel disappointed with the ending. I don't know. Maybe I don't know Sonic well enough, but that's how I feel.
Most Sonic games end up with you wanting more
But unleashed left we well beyond satisfied

I’m probably the only one who loves the Sonic Advance 3 Ending, the mood and vibe it gives off. With Sonic Rush and Battle as close seconds.

Sonic Adventure 2 has the best ending. Especially when you factor in that it was developed to very likely be the last Sonic game ever due to Sega's failing sales with consoles and that Shadow was supposed to stay dead.

SA2 has the most conclusive ending. Like you and others have stated, it feels like it could be the end of the series and it'd be a satisfying conclusion. But Unleashed is my favorite as well because Unleashed is such a grand adventure, and they close it out perfectly with a climactic finale. And at the end? Sonic runs towards the horizon, ready for the next adventure life throws at him. It also would work as a finale to the series as well, gotta remember that Unleashed was the game after 06, the franchise's future was pretty unclear. Symbolically, it says to me that Sonic never really "dies," even if the game ends. He'll live on through our hearts and memories, always running towards the next adventure.
I really hate that ppl misunderstand the endin to SR. The handkerchief is supposed to showcase how much Shara is gonna cry over havin to forever part wit Erazor Jin. If anythin I would say that the 1st handkerchief wish WASN'T bein called back to but was a way to FORESHADOW the endin of the games' story. But since sonic is a kids franchise it has to keep things like the topic of abuse subtle so ig nobody in the west want to look any deeper into it than "haha stupid wish at end of game". I'd also at least put Colors in honorable mentions cus that 1 really hits in the feels imo

I feel like you are biased picking unleashed as the best ending the game itself is definitely amazing i agree with that but the ending was okay not that great just okay but you can have your opinion. my best ending was sonic frontiers update 3 i swear i had feelings i have never had with a sonic game i felt excited and sad in the same time because this was the ending to the best sonic game to me

I'm a huge Sonic Battle and Advance 3 fan, so honestly, both if the endings hit me pretty hard. Emerl and Gemerl are such cool and unique characters, and watching everyone else reminisce on their life and their future was honestly really interesting to watch. Dare I say, they might’ve done the whole scene better than SA2 did (Tails honestly ruined that scene for me. As much as I love him, bro really enjoys ruining some scenes. At least in Battle, Tails actually took everything a bit more seriously). And while Advance 3 heavily relies on Battle's ending, it's still really heartwarming to watch, even if you don't know what happened in Battle with Emerl. My top 5 would probably go:
5. Black Knight.
4. Adventure 2.
3. Advance 3.
2. Frontiers Update 3.
1. Battle.
The other endings here were still great though, it's just these ones felt a bit better in my opinion.
