It really has in showing Sega that Sonic is still a force to be reckoned with considering how the general audience reacted to the very first Sonic design enough to make Paramount do the unprecedented move to delay and redesign him. We see the movie's influence in Sonic's cinematic for max boost and how we've gotten a return to lore with Frontiers and the update has even expanded on it in regard to Chaos with his forms based off the others tribes from what Sonic discusses why some titans he has come across look different in his side quest talk with Sage. I like to think that Chaos 3 if it had appeared would have been based off the winged tribe and Chaos 5 would be the more accurate four legs tribe whereas Chaos 6 has six legs, so it's an evolution/deviation of sorts much like how Chaos 1 and Chaos 2 are based off the muscular tribe plus we have Chaos 4 based off the tribe with no legs and having only a tail then lastly of course Chaos 0 is based off the intelligent tribe that was the one that survived.
I think as a first foray into having other characters playable in a 3D sonic game since Sonic 06 _(17 years ago)._ This was pretty good. A test drive for what's to come if you will. Hopefully they take the critique from this game and improve on the next one with more refined character movesets and interactions with the environment
@@SrMissileMonkey oh yeah for sure, im guessing the reason tails knuckles and amy’s playstyles werent as fleshed out is because they had the most time developing and refining how sonic controls.
@@redbop_If their gonna make the next game open world too I would recommend bigs big world way you remember that big the cat fangame that had like every iconic sonic location in one massive map
@lettucesauce. yeah they were adding new playstyles and movesets and mechanics to a game designed for Sonic specifically, while being 17 years removed from the last time they did it. It was gonna be jank no matter how much they tried to accommodate them when creating their various platforms (I like the return of Tail's boost rings) without needing to default to creating a whole new game.
I also loved the original the end secret boss, but I also love the Tohou series, so seeing the pay off to the hacking minigames was hype for me and unlike anything in the rest of the game on hard The End took multiple attempts from me ❤
Looking at what the final horizon update brought to the table, i am now a firm believer that if they go into the next game with that same kind of love and care, they'll knock it out the park
@@Invalourrr-vb3xoYou... Realize that's not the devs fault, right? Blame corpos for not giving them time to cook. Cause all the bones of a great update and game are there, but they needed time to flesh it out. Hell blame Sega for the original ending fucking sucking cause they're afraid to embrace the anime shit Sonic was doing this whole game.
Such a god damn insane finale, yes this dlc isn't perfect but its god damn amazing. Im freaking in love with sonics new forms and the new kickass Im Here remix and this has become my favourite sonic game ever. I dont care what anyone says.
@@riniabraham5579 What I mean is that the dlc is still a bit buggy and there is there a few parts of the game where it can feel really unbalanced, especially in terms of difficulty. The first 2 trials were absurdly difficult and yet the next two were super easy and then the final one... do I need to explain? You understand where I'm coming from though right?
I'm gonna be honest, I REALLY liked climbing the towers. I set my de-acceleration to maximum and it was way more fun to get creative with the tight platforming.
My settings have always been cranked down because I'm a control freak, so I wasn't dealing with alot of the issue some of the other players are having.
Besides the 5th trial and the skill trees for the 3 characters being moveset based instead of combat, I enjoyed Update 3 overall and it strengthens Frontiers to be my favorite Sonic game. Also I have a theory that this update might be testing not just the current characters but also 4 gameplay classifications for future playable characters within the Open Zone. Like Shadow playing similar to Sonic or Rouge playing like Knuckles ect...
@@speedboy8038 Sonic had access to his moveset from the start and the other characters lacking combat makes fighting guardians feel kinda off. I get why they made these skill trees as Frontiers was made pacifically for Sonic while the characters are just extra, but this is just how I felt.
Personally, once I unlocked the spindash for all the characters as well as the cyclone for Tails, infinite glide for Knuckles, and the hamster wheel with the drift as Amy, I found the characters to be so much more fun. Especially Amy. I love just zooming around Ouranos island just drifting all over the place.
My god update 3 was my favourite I just finish all the quest now is cyberspace (which is going to be a lot of fun) The final boss is confirmed to be the best boss in the whole entire series for me
This is the best positive review of Sonic Frontiers and The Updates I've seen yet. Everything you said in this video, I couldn't agree more. After playing all the Updates, The new Final Boss and Ending: I am proud to say that Sonic Frontiers is My Favorite Sonic Game of all time. The fact that Sonic Team made all of this for free is Mind Blowing. I can't believe they actually pulled this off. All & All: Great Vid, Man. Thank You!😁🙏🏾🤘🏽💙
Here's a tip for parrying Wyvern by utilizing the Perfect Parry. Pause buffer. It helps you by slowing down its attacks ftame by frame. It also helps you figure out just WHEN to time your Parry. Once you get the general understanding on timing your parry you'll gradually progress to no longer needing to pause buffer. Also, learning to utilize the Perfect Parry will help you against The End.
I personally had a tone of fun with this new update. But the end battle and trials felt kinda jank. I've been playing this game since launch so for me, being avle to play as new characters with new physics and abilities was VERY refreshing and super fun.
When I tell you I bounced around my room with excitement during that final fight, I bounced like there was no tomorrow. This game feels redeemed, dude.
Updates can go a long way, man. And I totally think Frontiers deserves to get reviewed again. (And by that I mean the game should get new review scores now that Frontiers is at it's completed state.) Only time will tell what Superstars has to offer.
I just noticed while watching this video but, Cyber Sonic kinda looks like Fleetway Sonic when he goes Super. That's a neato reference, intentional or otherwise
Idea for what the 100% reward should be. FREE ROAM SUPER SONIC!!! He would be a reskin, and cost rings (1 ring per second) then the changes to the boost. His normal speed would be the same as the boost before you get max rings at lvl 98. His only boost would be a power boost that wouldn’t drain the boost gauge or rings. His air boost would be like a short flight, it would last 5 seconds but he would loose 10 rings per second. I think that would be asking too much from them, but since mods have done way more, I think it wouldn’t be that hard to add. They already have the super sonic model, so just change some stats, find a way to transform, than boom. That would be super awesome.
Fun fact: If you haven't unlocked the spindash and do the new story, when you play as Sonic, the spindash is actually given to you for free because the new cyber space stages are made with the spindash in mind so if you don't have it, the game gave it to me for free without unlocking it
@@darkblade_fp1847 Honestly I like only unlocking it at the end of the game because it gives me the feeling of "There is a big threat aproaching, here take this power-up"
I will thank updates for improving upon the game and giving new content Frontiers I loved even before the updates but they got me more play time and help me improve in the game and was just awesome to play with other characters and a more fitting end to the story Frontiers will always be my favorite Sonic Game because it has put my faith back into future games back also awesome video you did great:)
22:05 I found his missles to actually be the easy part at least in comparison to having to actually perry his direct attacks(plus missing a missle is only a small setback in comparison)
Honestly, I’m surprised I managed to beat that boss on the 3rd try, because they went from Extreme Mode, to Absurd Mode, to Absurdity Ludicrous mode, all in one update, the difficulty of that final boss, was insane!
I felt slightly annoyed when they made update 3 a simple option rather then a full replacement to the original ending, but I got over it quickly cause it serves as a good objective to go for when you beat the game with the I guess decanonized ending where Sage dies but not really
15:51 so, I actually found this out, but there’s ways to INSTANTLY KO some of the new guardians Spider+ and Silver Hammer can be instantly KO’d if you Quick Cyloop (or whatever equivalent your character has to it) their weak points three times (I know for a fact for Silver Hammer but not really for Spider+)
I enjoyed the recent updates, Spin Dash and Boosting with the slow down setting being as low as possible makes traveling across the open world a dream. Recently the new playable characters came out without me being aware of it, I haven't gone very far with the new content but I can say that without a doubt I absolutely LOVED playing as Ami, she started not that great but after leveling her up I had a blast playing as her, and her triple jump and her infinite glide as well as her other move set made me enjoy playing as her almost as much if not a little more than playing with Sonic. I haven't gotten around to playing as Knuckles or Tails yet so I can't say anything about that but I'm overall pleased with the new updates.
Not sure if most people don't notice this Dramatic Attack Scene at 24:12 But it is amazing to see a reference to when IDW Super Sonic dominated Chaos Powered Zavok in the Metal Virus arc
Man, can you ever think that this already happened? How many speeches we had for these updates... And now it is released. I have no words. Fully agreed with your opinion and ya know what? If this game will get update 3.5 that fixes practically every glitch, bug etc., this game will be 11/10. Just check it, man
Props to sega for actually finishing the campaign for one of, if not their biggest IP. Unfortunately that's more than I can say about Microsoft and Halo Infinite.
It was a mix bag of high and lows for me. (Kinda like the base game lol) The the towers and the new cyberspace stages were great, but the jank/lack of polish and the artificial difficulty spikes really brings this update down imo
The cyberspace levels and towers are part of that garbage unfair difficulty spike, that white forest level was not designed to work with frontiers at all, and the spindash being broken and being required is a bad thing, it controls like ass and should be optional in the dlc
@@Eevee860 Nah the platforming is actually fun the level design of the cyberspace levels got nothing on previous entrees in the series but it at least kept me entertained enough
23:59 you mention here that the Supreme fight has a previously scrapped quick time event? Is that the one shown in the video or is there another that you didn't get footage of? I can't find anybody else talking about this so I'm wondering if I missed it or something
It's not in the video, no. But apparently it was a previously scrapped QuickTime event that was found in the files of the game. But it was restored in update 3
I remember back when IGN released the first gameplay trailer of this game. Man after seeing a consistent decline in quality of there recent games and then seeing that gameplay trailer made me think Sonic Team was about to go bankrupt
I saw some people saying that they're worried about the next game bc of how difficult this dlc was, but they forget that in update 2, they brought the new koco challenges, which was a little harder than base game, so this difficulty spike is mostly exclusive of this dlc. It's not confirmed, but Kishimoto said they'll reconsider revisiting the adventure formula, which I'm all here for it
I wish we got even more music in update 3, like the lyrical, hype themes in this game, Endless Possibility, Reach For The Stars (original version), It Doesn’t Matter (SA2 version), Amy music variety, Knuckles music variety, and Tails music variety.
I really wish they could work the spindash into Sonic's main kit some other way. It looks like it's so much fun to use but I will for sure never grind those challenges to get it when they look so boring, especially if I have to do it post-game. Hopefully it'll just be baked into whatever comes next for the series.
Ah c’mon fam, you can complete this challenge in an afternoon or 2. It is a chore, but Spindash IS worth the pain. + Those challenges strengthen your movement with Sonic.
Man, words cannot express how much I felt, when Sonic went Super Sonic 2! That was sooooo awesome, when Sonic snap his fingers bringing supreme/The End to the ground and when you parry, he simply just waved his hand. My favorite part was Sonic transforming back after he got knocked down, man, people can say what they want to say with the Dragon Ball comparisons, but it genuinely reminded me of Goku and Vegeta in a good way,( but still Super Sonic 2 in his own personality) Sonic Team went hard with the Final Horizon update! I was literally in awe.
The input lag is absolutely horrible. Cylooping with the heroes compared to sonic is literally a second of delay. I also had this bug wherever i moved my character and let go of the stick they dont stop immediately and keep walking for a while. I had to keep messing with the control settings and got it sort of fixed
I completely agree with you on the Perfect Parry timing, it's just way too strict. Also, I wish the Another Story towers had checkpoints like the Rhea Island towers did. As for The End, I had absolutely *zero* idea how to beat it until I looked for the answer online and found it on Reddit of all places, and I was just like "how the frick was I supposed to know I had to sidestep while attacking its head to target the cable?!"
@@best_mate456 Once I knew what to do, yeah. The fight itself felt pretty fair, though I was actually playing it on easy mode, and even then I missed some parry timings, so I can only imagine how frustrated I'd be if I was still on hard mode like I was before doing Master King's trial (which is the same trial that made me switch to easy mode in the first place).
I’m with on the difficulty. I haven’t even gotten to the top of the first tower yet, or beaten one of the guardians. I found this dlc stressful and rage-inducing. For me it took the fun out of the game
@@best_mate456 Haven't tried normal yet, nor do I want to. I'm still suffering aftereffects of the stress Hard gave me, and I feel even normal will cause me more stress.
I still feel like The End is the weakest boss, just because while it’s great it SUCKS at explaining what to do. It’s my favorite now that I know how to fight it, but that initial confusion can really temper the hype you’re meant to feel.
On the new towers, i really didnt enjoy the difficulty, it felt like too much, so when i heard swapping to easy helped i did that. Instant baby mode. An in between would have been nice. On the note of the final boss, why didnt they tell us how to attack the tentacle. I ended up dodging around the head and sometimes getting lucky with the lock on until i googled if there was an easier way but wow that was a bad start to the finale for me after already being frustrated by the final tower. And after all my frustration... they still friggin pulled it off, amazing finale i cried tears of joy 11/10
@@best_mate456 Yeah, that one. The beginning was so annoying to constantly get through that I ended up switching to Easy to get back to where I was and then switching back to Hard.
@@T_Dude I need I can’t exactly remember but I did pass all towers on extreme mode my first try except the last one because I was stupid during the run way section
The final horizon reminds me of how they did the final story in SA2 and 06. In SA2 they team up to save Earth and 06 they teamed up to collect the chaos emeralds to revive sonic and they don't have interaction in the final story, they just do one cutscene of them planning to do something, and now they got multiple in-game cutscenes on how these characters feel in their situation. You can correct me if I'm wrong but this is just my opinion. And I like it
Anyone notice all the purple and red in the game? I know this is an over-exaggeration, but what if the Phantom Ruby has something to do with this? Not trying to say it’s in the game, since we don’t hear it’s sound effect, but what if it came from cyber space? After all, it’s clones are called virtual reality copies, and the clones it makes are villains from previous games, and the cyber space stages are zones from previous games such as green hill zone and sky sanctuary zone
It made me laugh that they made Amy’s tarot cards such a big thing for her in this update. Like, her hammer is iconic! Why change it? I agree with all your critiques, tbh. Underrated channel. :D
i really hate that for extreme mode they didnt just make it so you lose all your rings when you get hit. instant death is so boring. and for super sonic you could lose some rings on hit
The master king Koco trail on extreme difficulty is stupid hard. Not only can u not take a hit, but you have the perfect parry before the 1.41 patch, the one that lasts for 12 Frames!!
Absolutely agree. while i was watching the credits, it really made me think that this would've been the product of the base game if the Sonic team were given more time. With all the praise and awards Sonic Frontiers has gotten, it gives me confidence that Sega will put more hope (and time!!) into the team so we can keep getting games like this. Great video!
I actually didn't realize how easy parrying is until I got to Chaos Island. I unintentionally made Giganto and Wyvern harder by going for the perfect parry. Made Trial Wyvern dummy easy though... Can't say the same for Trial Giganto
I actully learned how to make a perfect parry quickly by repeating the challenge of the three titans many times until I succeeded, this forced me to adapt and relax to wait for the right moment
well said and overall a great video keep it up. I watched a video yesterday from another youtuber complaining about the difficulty with the new trials and towers so this is a provides good comparison between two different types of players.
so while the end fight before the update wasn't as good the one thing I liked was how the boss gloated just honestly gave me chills when it said the end comes for you all honestly wish some of the dialogue was used during the new boss fight
15:50 so during one of Amy's interactions with Knuckles she asks why he can use his fists when the cyber corruption doesn't allow her to use her hammer. It's a poor explanation and they don't explain why her cards work when her hammer doesn't.
I was… very disappointed by the final update. They didn’t bother to include ANY tutorials for the new characters, despite them all having completely different move sets. I had to look online to figure out what the heck the purple markers meant, and I didn’t realize for a good while that they all started at level 1. It shines a spotlight on how slipshod the combat is, and I was extremely frustrated in the more difficult fights when some of Sonic’s attacks wouldn’t activate properly (Like trying to use Sonic Boom during the final trial). The second boss in the final trial in particular made me seriously consider installing a trainer to just bypass it because it kept bugging out and doing shit like not letting me use quick cyloop or not putting me within attack range of the boss properly. Requiring precise parry timing in a game with bad parry feedback is absolute trash. Edit: I actually had no trouble parrying Wyvern’s missiles, it was his attacks that made me want to pull out my hair. It turns out you can mash the shoulder buttons to parry 80% of the time.
I like a lot of what Sonic Frontiers TRIED to do, but the camera work, writing, and cutscenes felt like weird fanfiction; the open world felt wasted and the horrible draw distance and random floating platforming junk wasn’t as engaging as bespoke levels. I hope they can take what’s here and improve on it with the next game.
I had to take time off from the game because how much I was struggling to defeat Wyvern in the Master Trial. I’m glad the creators made changes to the updates to make it easier to get through the Master Trial
Pretty sure why this dlc was hard because people were complaining about Sonic frontiers being “too easy”, and sega took that personally Edit: also the QTE for cyber super sonic was AMAZING
I really only had fun with the final boss this update because of the level design and phasing through some objects and losing all my progress on the towers
Funnily enough, I haven't encountered any real glitches with the rest of the game until the final boss (except for one time I fell through Knight onto his spike attack during my last attempt of the Boss Rush on Hard mode lol). It sucks cause that final boss was really cool! My Quick Cyloop on the gun just didn't work when I thought to try it, so I was left super confused on how to progress for multiple attempts until I looked it up... then it failed again, before finally working. On phase 2 I got softlocked after parrying some attack and was left stuck in place unable to do literally anything until my rings ran out (I just reset early). And finally, the game hard crashed during the transition to phase 2 another time. I had a few very minor mods on and my last attempt went smoothly after disabling them, but they were Update 3 compatible and shouldn't have affected the Super Sonic gameplay so I don't think it was that. Also, Sonic Team seriously needs to work on telegraphing and subtle hinting. Hitting the cable was a pain until I realized that I kept hitting the cable when trying to wild rush the head. Dodging was never used to change targets, so why now? Have Supreme's head droop and expose the cable after parrying all the projectiles. Even if my first attempt to Quick Cyloop the gun worked, that still wasn't obvious enough. After stunning Supreme, the gun should've popped out slightly! Instead, when I accidentally started hitting the "hole" on its back, I just thought I found a weak point. I had already cyclooped the head and it did what you'd expect, so why would the spot on its back be different? Besides, Giganto had multiple targets that meant nothing special. I can basically sum up this whole update as fun, but very unpolished. I'm still very glad that it exists!
I dont know what you mean with input lag I did the whole thing on switch and never had that issue U would also dissagree with the combat Tails kinda sucks at it die to the lack of a homing attack but amy can do some sick combos if you get it right with the midair dodges Knuckles has that drill attack that does decent damege Tails does have the tornado beam but he has to stand still while doing it and if he doesnt stand on a flat surface you either shoot the sky or the ground
This game is awesome! I still play it and have poured hundreds of hours into it! I just love running around the open zones and completing those platforming challenges! While the platforms are scattered around with seemingly no cohesion, I think they're still well designed and add to that mystery of looking AI generated, which helps with the backstory of Sage, and I don't mind the platforms being suspended above the ground, as I still think the game looks great. There's just something about it, the aesthetic and the music, and especially the story, that makes me want to keep playing it. The enemy and boss designs are stellar. The titan fights are highlights, though gameplay wise, they are really easy. I agree about Cyberspace, and I don't mind them reusing old levels as long as they are fun. I wish the combat was a little better, and Sonic's parry timing should be changed across each difficulty. It's bizarre that they didn't do it for Sonic yet for other characters they did. With the latest patch, the physics are better, it's less buggy, but the difficulty has been eased, which was in response to the complaints from fans, but I wish they did that as a choice, rather than replacing the previous difficulty. But despite that, I think this is better than Shadow Generations. I think it has the soul of an open world Sonic game. Though I do wish they'd further update it a little more, as it would be perfect for me. Do you think they'll still update or patch this in the near future? I'd love it if they could fix the pop-in. I can't believe it's been a year since the best Sonic game got the best update! I find all playable characters fun to play, though not as much as Sonic, of course. They made the platforming challenges much harder and more open-ended, less linear than previous ones, which were too simple and automated. The new ending is a mixed bag for me. But the story is even better than before. What makes this game better than others is that I think it does playable characters the best. It also doesn't waste your playtime with non Sonic gimmicks as much as otherSonic games, especially Adventures 1 and 2, and Sonic feels great and fast to control. I disagree heavily when people say it's a Breath of the Wild ripoff as while it's clearly inspired, it also has a lot of differences, and I think I like it more. I even like that some challenges make use of momentum and make you think outside the box. The puzzles are mostly not challenging, but more like movement exercises, and i don't mind doing them. Overall, a masterpiece ✨️ Yeah, I don't mind the reusing of level layouts as the new movement makes it feel different. I similarly don't mind the koco quests, with most being optional, as long as they're not too annoying or pacebreaking. The worst part is probably the pinball minigame or the laser puzzle or the crane task. Cyberspace looks exactly like Generations, but I do like how they at least added the digital effect to make it feel new. Also, I like the presentation. I think the animations are quite good in general, better than in previous games, and I don't mind the realistic artstyle. While it's a triple A game, I do wish there were some CGI cutscenes, but that's probably because of the day-night system, so everything runs in real-time. As I said before, I really liked Frontiers, and it was almost perfect. In my opinion, it can only get better, not worse. Forces, while I think it's very overhated, and I kinda like it, I also find it kinda hard to defend, and I feel it was the dip in budget and quality and passion, it terms of both gameplay, design, story, and presentation, even though I don't think it's souless or lazy like many say. Frontiers, to me, felt like a high budget game, even though some corners were clearly cut. Not to be a blatant hater, but I don't think we'll ever return to that dip of content in the 2010s, as while I think saying it was the definition of mediocrity is a bit harsh, I don't think you could get worse than that. The next mainline game might not always be better than the last, but at least it won't ever be of that quality, let alone worse. Frontiers might have been great, but it can only get better, and that's hard to imagine!
I actually found most of the new Koco challenges quite a nuisance (not to mention the reward for them is just useless since the game has unlimited boost from the beginning) simply because of how frontiers is just not made to be a platformer: Sonic turns like a car when jumping unless you sacrifice the double jump to correct your jump trajectory, there's no shadow directly underneath to see where you'll land, and some sections had messed up controls/camera combinations (mostly in the climbing sections) that would send me flying off the platforms. That's ok for generations and colors, in which most of the platforming is automated, but not when you're clearly trying to make platforming challenges like those. I remember one in Kronos island with fixed camera climbing section and some spike balls on it where pushing left or down on the stick would send sonic downward, but moving up and right would move him diagonally left and diagonally right, respectively, and that me took me a few tries just to figure out the controls. It should had at least the option of fixed movement controls independent of camera when climbing, really. I found it to be quite a problem with Knuckles too, as I would often move downwards when pushing up if the camera was pointing down... But that's really nothing compared to update 3's towers platformings... tower 2 almost made me give up on the game entirely bc of the pink walls that won't respawn, unless you get very far away from the tower or reload your save (and they even put bombs that could push you off the platforms, right after the first section, ffs)... I like challenges, but only when they are fair and balanced (in other words, good designed) not when I have to deal with bs like this that turns them intk a chore. And to think lost world actually had great controls and platforming, but they scrapped it entirely. I mean, the parkour sucked and that minecart level from the wii u version is bullshittery at its finest, but the controls and the platforming sections had me fixated on lost world for a couple of years now. I really liked the rework they did on Amy and Tails, though (although I too wished Amy focused more on the Piko hammer than the cards bc that's her signature weapon and all) and I actually found this version of tails to be more fitting for him. And running around guardians throwing wrenches became quite the entertainment for me lmao. But yeah, he could had at least a homming attack for objects to help in the platforming. Gladly I took a look at his skill tree as soon as I got to play as him and realized he had no homing attack, so I picked the Cyclone boost before anything else and skipped every tails platforms with it lol I actually enjoyed knuckles quite a lot and the wind-up animation can be useful to buy yourself some time. I just found it annoying that he can't double jump after jumping on springs and such unless you punch in the air first, or else he will trigger the glide. That's probably a glitch, seeing how it works fine with every other character. The only disappointment is his moveset. I mean, I liked that they kept the attacks from adventure and even 06 and fixed those hitboxes, but his moveset is the more lacking of all of the new characters... I found amy's and tails' ok, but I expected Knuckles to be combat-oriented since, well, it's Knuckles, but all he got is a 3 hit punch and the heat dome from SA. Oh, and the dunking punch from heroes as the cyknuckle... Where's the special moves? Why there's a drill mode boost if he already has the spindash like everyone else? Why his charged attack sucks so much and deals so little damage even with maxed atk while amy's and tails' get to be useful even outside of battles? Where's the midcombo special moves to make his combat as entertaining (and useful) as sonic's?
FINALLY sonic got a new form! We haven’t gotten a new sonic form since sonic 3! (Which was hyper sonic which is arguably cannon) but sonic has had super sonic as his only form for ages but he finally unlocks a new form
i think both darkspine, werehog, and excalibur should also count (you said form and not super form which is why i say it before anyone says that it counts only as super forms)
Know I just commented but wanted to put this out there and not lose my heart I don't think other characters starting out with lower stats is that big a concern with the new replacement for the starfall all being koco, power and defense seeds all getting horrendously multiplied when you pick them up allowing you to quickly reach max level on any stat just from one starfall(I'm pretty sure I maxed out tails' speed before I even did sonic's) only problem is that koco are far more common than the seeds but seeing as you only need 100 out doesn't feel like that big an issue(I do wonder though if you didn't see this with having the slot machine turned off but I figured you'd still see the starfall itself)
Personally, whilst I agree the difficultly spike was untested for better or worse... for those that previously whined the game was too easy and still not fine with the upped difficulty... play Jak 2 going in blind, then come back to me on that.
Yeah like it isn't that hard with what ppl were saying I was expecting like top 20 souls bosses but while extremely hard yeah these aren't on that level hard
My idea on fixing final trial I think the final trial can be fix easily with 1 thing and it'll get more love than this Just keep both normal and perfect parry in the trial. I mean instead of shove only perfect parry(I'll call it PP) in that, you can still hold normal parry like main game, but give some reward when you PP. For example, when you PP, you get attack buff, or maybe you can gain some rings from it. The PP isn't that much required with final boss itself, there's a chance to beat it without PP everytime to win. I hope mod community can do that. What do you all think?
Or just stop it from lowering your stats, you should be allowed to take max stats into the trials so they don't all suck so much, the parrying isn't an issue since it's easy to time a 2 second parry on easy, the issue is that knight is a garbage fight in phase 2 and there's no reliable way to hit him with his shield so you will not survive on so little rings, even just letting us go in with 999 rings and all other stats at 1 would fix the titan trial
This is definitely the ending we were supposed to get with some extra added bonuses.. but I have a sneaking suspicion that if the game didn’t sell as well as it did, we wouldn’t have gotten this DLC at all Also I wouldn’t give this game anything higher than a 7.5/10, it still has far too many problems at its core
Its actually funny that xounsay that everything is so easy and the last thing is so hard cuz it was the reverse for me The first and fourth tower was pain The second trial was the only one i struggeled with I wasnt able to defeat any of the bosses ecxeot the octopuss ones because id always die because the game doesnt give you invisframes so you can just instadie if youre unlucky wich happened every time i tried to fight silver hammer The titan challenge was no priblem for me at all on the other hand I did ot on my third try becazse i missclicked at a quicktime event with knight wich for some reason instantly kills you I did struggle a bit at the end but i just didnt know tvat you hat to punch of the cable I loved what sonic does after cylooping the end he snaps his finger and makes him loose blood as if he just cut open his organs wich was just badass
update 3 was a very sweet update, really happy for everything they did ... besides the perfect parry that shit is hella hard lol if they can build up future games on the positives of frontiers? Sonic could have a big redemption
I feel like sonic has been on a redemption arc ever since the first movie came out.
If sega hadn't produced 20 years of dogshit, sonic wouldn't need one
Yep
The Sonic Movie officially marked the end of the Meta Era and the start of a new one :D
I agree with the first and second movie being liked by the majority of audiences it was about time the games followed suit
this update gives me so much hope for the next mainline game
kinda wish the other characters had more combat abilities honestly

Looking at what the final horizon update brought to the table, i am now a firm believer that if they go into the next game with that same kind of love and care, they'll knock it out the park
if they go into it with the same "love and care" it will be a mess, just like this update. these games need more time to perfect what they are.

My settings have always been cranked down because I'm a control freak, so I wasn't dealing with alot of the issue some of the other players are having.
i only had a good time with a few of them, some were just frustrating and stressful, which I suppose may have been the point.

I think it was confirmed that this was a test for how the other characters came be played
I personally loved the moveset based skill trees
@@speedboy8038 Sonic had access to his moveset from the start and the other characters lacking combat makes fighting guardians feel kinda off. I get why they made these skill trees as Frontiers was made pacifically for Sonic while the characters are just extra, but this is just how I felt.
Personally, once I unlocked the spindash for all the characters as well as the cyclone for Tails, infinite glide for Knuckles, and the hamster wheel with the drift as Amy, I found the characters to be so much more fun. Especially Amy. I love just zooming around Ouranos island just drifting all over the place.
I loved this update. The level of difficulty is really fun compared to the usual, really fucking easy, games we get.
That’s the thing
Sega needs to satisfy the casual and the hard core player at the same time

Turn it to easy so you get 2 seconds for perfect parrying to make the worst mechanic to ever exist in any sonic game not get in the way as much
I personally had a tone of fun with this new update. But the end battle and trials felt kinda jank. I've been playing this game since launch so for me, being avle to play as new characters with new physics and abilities was VERY refreshing and super fun.
IVE WAITED FOR THIS VIDEO THIS ENTIRE DAY MAN ITS PEAK!
When I tell you I bounced around my room with excitement during that final fight, I bounced like there was no tomorrow.
This game feels redeemed, dude.
The only reason I got into sonic frontiers was
1. “WILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW YOUR NAMEEEEEEEE” Find your Flame
2. Sonic
Welp now we know for sure this franchise is in good hands which no fan can deny. Can’t wait to see what the next game is gonna have
Updates can go a long way, man. And I totally think Frontiers deserves to get reviewed again. (And by that I mean the game should get new review scores now that Frontiers is at it's completed state.) Only time will tell what Superstars has to offer.
i couldn't possible imagine any large reviewer viewing this undercooked mess positively lol.
Fun fact: If you haven't unlocked the spindash and do the new story, when you play as Sonic, the spindash is actually given to you for free because the new cyber space stages are made with the spindash in mind so if you don't have it, the game gave it to me for free without unlocking it
The only catch is (for me it happened like so when trying) You can't take it to new game + unless you unlocked it through its original method
@@darkblade_fp1847 Honestly I like only unlocking it at the end of the game because it gives me the feeling of "There is a big threat aproaching, here take this power-up"

22:05 I found his missles to actually be the easy part at least in comparison to having to actually perry his direct attacks(plus missing a missle is only a small setback in comparison)
Same I found the missiles the easy part it was his direct attacks that kept on getting me
Honestly, I’m surprised I managed to beat that boss on the 3rd try, because they went from Extreme Mode, to Absurd Mode, to Absurdity Ludicrous mode, all in one update, the difficulty of that final boss, was insane!
I love Sonic Frontiers
I felt slightly annoyed when they made update 3 a simple option rather then a full replacement to the original ending, but I got over it quickly cause it serves as a good objective to go for when you beat the game with the I guess decanonized ending where Sage dies but not really
The files really do call the upgraded super form, supersonic2
15:51 so, I actually found this out, but there’s ways to INSTANTLY KO some of the new guardians
Spider+ and Silver Hammer can be instantly KO’d if you Quick Cyloop (or whatever equivalent your character has to it) their weak points three times (I know for a fact for Silver Hammer but not really for Spider+)
It's insane how much Sonic Team bounced back
Not sure if most people don't notice this Dramatic Attack Scene at 24:12
But it is amazing to see a reference to when IDW Super Sonic dominated Chaos Powered Zavok in the Metal Virus arc
Man, can you ever think that this already happened? How many speeches we had for these updates... And now it is released. I have no words. Fully agreed with your opinion and ya know what? Props to sega for actually finishing the campaign for one of, if not their biggest IP.
Unfortunately that's more than I can say about Microsoft and Halo Infinite.
It was a mix bag of high and lows for me. (Kinda like the base game lol)
The the towers and the new cyberspace stages were great, but the jank/lack of polish and the artificial difficulty spikes really brings this update down imo
Exactly how I feel tbh
The cyberspace levels and towers are part of that garbage unfair difficulty spike, that white forest level was not designed to work with frontiers at all, and the spindash being broken and being required is a bad thing, it controls like ass and should be optional in the dlc
@@Eevee860 Nah the platforming is actually fun the level design of the cyberspace levels got nothing on previous entrees in the series but it at least kept me entertained enough
I think the platforming is nothing
The problem with the base game platform is 2D, automatic and easy jump
Update 3 has none of those issues

I know and to make things worse, we can't even use the jukebox in the new ouranos island.

Wait, did you say they included the scrapped animation on Supreme? Where? Did you trigger it?
The moment I saw cyber sonic I immediately thought of fleet way because of his sharpened teeth and bloodthirsty eyes

Sonic Team really took the "IT'S TOO EASY" complaint personally
On the new towers, i really didnt enjoy the difficulty, it felt like too much, so when i heard swapping to easy helped i did that. Instant baby mode. An in between would have been nice. On the note of the final boss, why didnt they tell us how to attack the tentacle. I ended up dodging around the head and sometimes getting lucky with the lock on until i googled if there was an easier way but wow that was a bad start to the finale for me after already being frustrated by the final tower. And after all my frustration... they still friggin pulled it off, amazing finale i cried tears of joy 11/10

Let's just hope that everything this game established is utilized moving forward. I pray this isn't a 2 steps forward 5 steps backwards moment.
rip anyone who was stuck on expert mode for the dlc
It made me laugh that they made Amy’s tarot cards such a big thing for her in this update. Like, her hammer is iconic! Why change it?
I agree with all your critiques, tbh. Underrated channel. :D
i really hate that for extreme mode they didnt just make it so you lose all your rings when you get hit. instant death is so boring. and for super sonic you could lose some rings on hit
Yeah now I think about it extreme mode one hit kill is not a really good idea
I thought is going to be like a parry nerf
The master king Koco trail on extreme difficulty is stupid hard. Not only can u not take a hit, but you have the perfect parry before the 1.41 patch, the one that lasts for 12 Frames!!
Absolutely agree. while i was watching the credits, it really made me think that this would've been the product of the base game if the Sonic team were given more time. With all the praise and awards Sonic Frontiers has gotten, it gives me confidence that Sega will put more hope (and time!!) into the team so we can keep getting games like this. Great video!
Thank you!
Did they ever fix the character movement and them being so stiff?
i think so
This update was a rollercoaster of emotions.
It really was especially to casual players
I really hope they keep Sage as cannon character for the next games on Eggman's side.
You can just hold the button to parry everything which sucks
well said and overall a great video keep it up. I watched a video yesterday from another youtuber complaining about the difficulty with the new trials and towers so this is a provides good comparison between two different types of players.
The map challenges were so hard that I put it in easy mode and find a tutorial
so while the end fight before the update wasn't as good the one thing I liked was how the boss gloated just honestly gave me chills when it said the end comes for you all honestly wish some of the dialogue was used during the new boss fight
Pretty sure why this dlc was hard because people were complaining about Sonic frontiers being “too easy”, and sega took that personally
Edit: also the QTE for cyber super sonic was AMAZING
I really only had fun with the final boss this update because of the level design and phasing through some objects and losing all my progress on the towers
TBH the final boss was the best and biggest highlight of update 3 to me 😂
Funnily enough, I haven't encountered any real glitches with the rest of the game until the final boss (except for one time I fell through Knight onto his spike attack during my last attempt of the Boss Rush on Hard mode lol).
I swear that new ending was HYPE
I dont know what you mean with input lag
I did the whole thing on switch and never had that issue
U would also dissagree with the combat
Tails kinda sucks at it die to the lack of a homing attack but amy can do some sick combos if you get it right with the midair dodges
Knuckles has that drill attack that does decent damege
Tails does have the tornado beam but he has to stand still while doing it and if he doesnt stand on a flat surface you either shoot the sky or the ground
Overall, a masterpiece ✨️
Yeah, I don't mind the reusing of level layouts as the new movement makes it feel different.
So now which ending is the cannon one it better be the new one though i dout it
I didn’t even know DLC existed, hope it’s worth picking the game back up cuz I don’t even think I finished it with that horrible last boss sequence
Gladly I took a look at his skill tree as soon as I got to play as him and realized he had no homing attack, so I picked the Cyclone boost before anything else and skipped every tails platforms with it lol
I actually enjoyed knuckles quite a lot and the wind-up animation can be useful to buy yourself some time.
Nuh uh. That last form ain't cyber sonic. It's cyber energy fleetway sonic.
Huh
I did not experience any input delay with any of the characters; however, I played the PS5 version of Sonic Frontiers.
The unfortunate part about unlocking the spin dash is that its both ungodly hard, as well as should have been in the kit to begin with.
@@knucklesandothersinsrb2 I was meaning sort of a form beyond just super sonic but I get your point
Literally just blue eyes
@@SMD965OFFICIALOMG did you just forgot the best scene of the final boss fight bro?
@@best_mate456 yeah I saw it, I kept laughing my ass off at that moment lmao
Know I just commented but wanted to put this out there and not lose my heart
I don't think other characters starting out with lower stats is that big a concern with the new replacement for the starfall all being koco, power and defense seeds all getting horrendously multiplied when you pick them up allowing you to quickly reach max level on any stat just from one starfall(I'm pretty sure I maxed out tails' speed before I even did sonic's) only problem is that koco are far more common than the seeds but seeing as you only need 100 out doesn't feel like that big an issue(I do wonder though if you didn't see this with having the slot machine turned off but I figured you'd still see the starfall itself)
There was a supersonic fleetway reference with full cyber corruption Sonic
Personally, whilst I agree the difficultly spike was untested for better or worse... for those that previously whined the game was too easy and still not fine with the upped difficulty... play Jak 2 going in blind, then come back to me on that.
Yeah like it isn't that hard with what ppl were saying I was expecting like top 20 souls bosses but while extremely hard yeah these aren't on that level hard
Bro I cannot beat the boss rush trial, literally the timing for parry’s on hard is crazy
Oh my god extreme mode don’t even think about it
But as a hard core sonic fan hard mode parry feel good. Casual fans will be on easy
@@best_mate456I usually mess up on the second boss especially when it gets to phase 2 and attacks faster
@@koficanham7109 when I did hard mode if I get hit is mostly I parry late so I tried early and 80% times I manage to strike back
Great video! They really cooked here 👌Glad there’s someone else that respects this
My idea on fixing final trial
I think the final trial can be fix easily with 1 thing and it'll get more love than this
Just keep both normal and perfect parry in the trial.
I really understand all of the criticism that people have about this DLC , but man, I can't stop playing it.
I honestly believe that sonic getting shot out of the cannon is a Sonic X reference 🌚.
This is definitely the ending we were supposed to get with some extra added bonuses.. but I have a sneaking suspicion that if the game didn’t sell as well as it did, we wouldn’t have gotten this DLC at all
Also I wouldn’t give this game anything higher than a 7.5/10, it still has far too many problems at its core
Hey... did you guys notice that there wasn't a SINGLE 2D section in the DLC? hmmm, i wonder why that is...
Its actually funny that xounsay that everything is so easy and the last thing is so hard cuz it was the reverse for me
The first and fourth tower was pain
The second trial was the only one i struggeled with
I wasnt able to defeat any of the bosses ecxeot the octopuss ones because id always die because the game doesnt give you invisframes so you can just instadie if youre unlucky wich happened every time i tried to fight silver hammer
The titan challenge was no priblem for me at all on the other hand
I did ot on my third try becazse i missclicked at a quicktime event with knight wich for some reason instantly kills you
I did struggle a bit at the end but i just didnt know tvat you hat to punch of the cable
I loved what sonic does after cylooping the end he snaps his finger and makes him loose blood as if he just cut open his organs wich was just badass
Im so happy i played all the bosses through mods and made it as hard as possible. Once i got to knight i had 57 rings and i killed him in 50 seconds
update 3 was a very sweet update, really happy for everything they did ... besides the perfect parry
that shit is hella hard lol
if they can build up future games on the positives of frontiers?
Sonic could have a big redemption
