Sonic Frontiers has restored my faith in the franchise, the movies really good but this game showed that Sonic Team are still capable of making truly great games, they brought the more serious tone of the older games and the cool factor of Sonic, and I’m so excited to see what the blue blur has in store for us with Update 3 The Final Horizon, Superstars and much more stuff

@@evdestroy5304 Given what happened from Generations to Forces yeah, but I think what hurt more so from that was also just due to the fact the marketing behind Forces said from the team that brought you Colors and Generations and oh boy was that a lie with how it ended up and showing that none of the people who worked on those games did Forces when looking at the credits.
I think it should be said the movies influence with showing to Sega of Japan that Sonic is still a big deal from a general audience sense with how it wasn't just Sonic fans but everyone in general telling Paramount this ain't it with that first pitch really opened the floodgate for the return to form *looks at Sonic movie boost animation in Frontiers* which you even see this from how they're bringing back lore, and what shocked me the most in Frontiers when Amy was being introspective when she's thinking about the Koko in the flower field and her heart-to-heart to Sonic made me go "Sonic characters having actual character development in a Sonic game!? What the fuck..." so I think my faith is much more restored than what Colors and Generations brought to the table because they were still relatively safe games from the story side of things in not even trying with the story and the supporting cast as yeah hyped for cast other than Sonic finally being playable in a mainline game again.

I think Sonic Generations actually had the right idea with Super Sonic, at least on paper. Its essentially the Sonic Adventure philosophy of Super Sonic, and the Sonic Colors philosophy of Super Sonic in one game. That being having Super Sonic be playable during the final boss and in the main stages too. I think Super Sonic boss fights are cool, but theres also fun to be had just being a golden force of nature playing Super Sonic in normal stages. When its done right anyway which I can't really say too many of the 3D games do outside of colors.
It would be amazing to unlock super sonic as playable in the open zones as well as cyberspace, maybe as a 100% completion for doing everything in the game. Obviously it wouldn’t be as overpowered as what we have in the bosses, but it would be neat to have that bonus speed and invincibility to play around with.
Hot take, but Generations Super Sonic was underwhelming for me.
People say "bOoSt To WiN" but with Super Sonic it's no longer a joke since you hold X/□ and he flies over everything negating the need to jump or use any other inputs, and magnetises rings so you don't run out.
I like to go fast, but the fact it makes actual gameplay feel more automated than Sonic Forces as a whole kills it for me.
It's why I would rate even super Sonic in a game like Sonic Lost World or even Sonic 2/3&K or Mania higher than it, despite preferring 3D Sonic personally. Because you move faster and are invincible there, but still need a level of skill to keep it up, which is a lot like the speed in most Sonic games that we love.
After Frontiers I can confidently say
Sonic is finally cool again
The 3rd update next week is gonna have a new form and everyone is going to go INSANE!!!!

These fights were great, especially on the first playthrough. The first playthroughs of Super Sonic boss fights should have something to remember and cherish about them. I'm glad we're back on track with having Super Sonic incorporated within the story instead of being relegated to DLC. Granted, during the 2010s Era, Sonic was more than strong enough to deal with what was ahead of him, but it still would've been cool to see him. That made me just think about how strong Sonic himself is getting and how brilliant it makes Super Sonic. There's so much potential for Super Sonic, and I hope they continue to take advantage of it! I wonder what kind of significance the new form for Update 3 will have!
7:18 It's actually not "Heavy Metal." It's a complete separate subgenre of Metal called "Metalcore."
I think what really helps Super Sonic boss fights particularly in the 3D games, is that it really signals a phase change. Although you're playing a mostly invincible character in most cases, the difficulty isn't in not necessarily getting 'hurt' but rather learning the new control scheme and moveset, while also learning the boss phases and how to more efficiently take down the boss before your rings run out.
Once you have that flow going, you have some of the best music in each game psyching you up which adds to the feel, and the general spectacle that really makes it feel like a culmination of that game's journey, so in a way it feels cathartic when you win. Basically it's just the 'Rule of Cool' personified.
Least that's my take.

personally i think that they can make the super sonic final bossfights a tad bit more difficult. you still feel powerful but its not like theres no challange at all. and i dont think that supersonic bossfights today arent challanging i just think that it woulndt hurt to make them just a little more exiting.
or they can just leave that for a hard mode or whatever i dont care
yeah, and i don’t want the hard mode to be more health and more damage.
i wouldnt say it saved the series. but it did give the series hope, apart for the slightly clunky gameplay and still cutscenes the game was a blast.
The Super Sonic ones are good. Most of the others? Not so much...

I know this is totally off-topic but I just finished sonic lost world (beside bonus zones). THIS IS THE MOST UNDERRATED SONIC GAME. Fine, it's not perfect, could be better, but this game is mostly fun and lava Mountain zone 3 is sooooo awesome - zavok boss fight is imo the best boss fight besides boss fights from sonic frontiers

Iv said it for years. supersonic works because you feel immortal, the final fight for music is not about the enermy, its about sonic. think about it, music like live and learn? Undefeatable? it really is a reward

I really missed having a Super Sonic final boss at the end of the game. Like you said, Matt, it was a reward for making it to the climax of the game - a sick looking final boss, a kickass final form and a bitchin’ song to jam along with while you beat the snot out of the bad guys! Ah man, I love games that do that! Frontiers really sparked my hope for more Super Sonic in the future, and with any luck, some brand spanking new super forms too.
Metal Overlord was my first super sonic boss and between the music, dialogue and atmosphere, it felt hyped and like a good reward for completing 4 stories and getting the chaos emeralds
Honestly the way Heroes made us unlock it, it felt more like compensation than a reward.
Say what you will about Westopolis, but playing the same game 4 times just to get a cool boss fight was super(pun intended) underwhelming.
Especially when only around 75% of Team Sonic was even fun (looking at you, Rail Canyon, Bullet Station, Casino Park, Bingo Highway and all the recycled boss fights in between)
Metal Overlord has a kickass theme song, but that's basically it. I've lost interest by the time I get to him whether I trudge through it all in one, or spread my Groundhog Day Heroes playthrough over a few days.

I prefer the way generations handled super sonic. You have a super sonic boss fight and after finishing the games story you get to use super sonic freely.
I’ll never forget the first time I fought Giganto. Hearing Undefeatable and seeing Super Sonic ripping into the Titan finally got me excited for Sonic again. Wyvern and Knight just continues my excitement. I can’t wait to see what Kishimoto and team have cooking for us next week!

Actually, the first game with an unlockable Last Story is the 8-bit Sonic 2, and Advance series had way more challenging Last Stories years ago. And I don't know how you think that the Colors-style final bosses they keep recycling are the "best" parts of those games.

The problem with most of the super Sonic boss fights isn't that they were just easy, but they were over too quick. Like the adventure and adventure 2 fights were over before they even started. Frontiers though did it right though. I feel like each titan fight lasted the perfect amount of time

I'm sorry, but y'all need to stop calling this music just "heavy metal". It is Metalcore with aspects of Death Metal vocals, but mostly post-hardcore vocals and Find Your Flame is slightly Nu Metal in its verses too. Just had to nerd out over it, I'm a -core kid like that.
Does anyone else find it bizarre that they never explained what the "zap" runes mean? Or why Sonic's deathly afraid of the moon, of all things?

I think my favorite part about the super sonic boss fights in frontiers is the implication that during these fights you are undefeatable (no pun intended) and the titans are aware of it, they know they can't beat you, so they're mostly stalling until the transformation runs out. This hit me all of the sudden when the third titan started sliding around the stage, mostly making himself a difficult target. Then it suddenly made sense why most of the time Gigantos was trying to toss you as far away as possible from him and Wyvern was mostly flying away from you during his fight.
Sonic grown to a character that he doesn’t really need the emeralds to defeat powerful enemies(infinite, egg wisp armor, phantom ruby death egg even perfect chaos on his birthday) but when comes unfamiliar ancient territory he has no choice. Which I love because he his so brutal when it comes to the Titan it’s not even boost to win.

I do think the ability to upgrade your strength shouldn't affect Super Sonic.
If you went out of your way to upgrade your strength, the game gets too easy and the super sonic boss fights end way quicker then they should. For the next game if they decide to keep the upgrading system, DO NOT APPLY IT TO SUPER SONIC. Super should get it's own specific stats that way this problem can be solved.

However, there’s something that I need to hugely disagree with.
While I do admit that there are other Super Sonic boss fights that are very easy.
I’m absolutely shocked that this video never once actually mentioned that there are super hard Super Sonic boss fights.
A lot of excellent examples of hard Super Sonic boss fights are.
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 06, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Frontiers, and Sonic Heroes etc.
It’s not like you play as Super Sonic and due to his ultimate invincibility Super Sonic right away wins.
There’s so many obstacles and attacks for Super Sonic to dodge through from the bad guy to fight and eventually defeat the bad guy.
Then to add that in you have to collect all of the rings to make sure that you stay as Super Sonic to make sure that Sonic doesn’t just automatically go back to normal due to losing his rings and you have to start all over.
It even depends on how well you know how to properly control Super Sonic too.
The Perfect Chaos boss fight is very easy in Sonic Adventure yet it depends on how well you know how to do the fight.
In Sonic Unleashed, you literally have to fly over to Dark Gaia and get out of the way of the meteors flying at you.
Then once Super Sonic finally reaches Dark Gaia’s eyes you have to hit the right buttons just to fully attack them.
Also, Super Sonic is super fast so to actually master controlling him due to being so used to Sonic’s running and fighting bosses as just normal Sonic helps show off how you got so skilled to control anything of Sonic.
I just had to point that out.😉
The first time I went super sonic in frontiers and heard that metalcore blasting in the background I legit got so hyped I got light headed. The spectacle of these fights is always such a joy.

Honestly i hope sega keeps this up with the boss fights like when i first played this game 6 or 7 months ago i was very shocked on the giganto boss fight it was epic but I’m more of a fan of the knight boss than anything but that besides the point i rlly hope in the next update before you fight supreme you fight all the Titans all at one or in specific phase then end it off with supreme FP. In my personal opinion, before Frontiers, Super Sonic was just not only something that you get at the end of the game, it’s just Sonic but he’s yellow and can fly.
I seriously hope that Update 3 will 1: make supreme more challenging. Give it like 5x more Hp for the love of god. And 2: give The End some new form so that we actually have a Titan-like fight with it

The automated parry, too mucj automation and button mashing kills the Titans for me. They are fun the first time but thats it
Then Replay Them In Battle Rush With A Level 1 Damage File With All Abilities, And Instead Of Button Mashing Do Actual Combos By Activating Different Attacks, And The Titans Have Their Own Exclusive Grand Slam And Quick Cyloop (Except For Supreme Who Copied Almost Everything From Giganto, But Is Fortunately Getting Remade In Update 3)

It’s so balanced organically that I can’t see myself doing it as a challenge in the future but rather the legit experience. I’d they follow this formula, they should drop the levels. At least in attack, enemies die way too fast at max

I hate the whiny heavy metal so much. I wish there was an option to switch to literally any other style of music. Hearing a teenager sing about how x-treme they are is beyond lame and it kills everything that makes the Super Sonic boss fights cool. If DragonBall fights had lame screamo in the background the whole time I probably wouldn't have made it through a season.
