Krusty 60 year old Overlander here With my crusty old thoughts: Back in my day we would find a better trail " If you don't make that it's gonna be really bad!" We also drove around the rocks. When you have a spotter you're in effect: letting them drive your rig! I wouldn't let somebody drive my rig up something named Hell's revenge or even lesser obstacles! So the upside of Hell's revenge is you make it to the top The possible downside is you total your rig. I would continue my morning rent but it's almost time for me to go chase kids off my lawn. Have a Krusty day.

Some of the footage in this clip features the ESCALATOR! A NASTY obstacle on the legendary Hell's Revenge trail in Moab, Utah, where even the BEST spotter might be rendered useless based solely on your WHEELBASE. Awesome content!

I was about to post the same thing. Escalator is a whole different animal lol. That’s where the “purpose built” buggy in the video was that was about to flop over.

After watching that black Jeep roll down Hells Gate about 15 plus years ago and many times since I added that obstacle to my bucket list. Then in 2013 I made the 2,200 mile round trip primarily to conquer The Gate. Man, sitting at the bottom looking up for the first time can be terrifying, especially after watching the Jeep roll video for at least a hundred times. I sucked it up and made the gate with no spotter or any vehicle ahead of me to watch. Out of the four Jeeps in my group that made the trek down I was to only one to brave that challenge.

As you both will know, some YT channels enjoy subscription levels well beyond their channel's content value, while others are under-appreciated and deserve a much larger following. Your channel definitely falls into the latter category, and I'm thankful you continue to devote the time and effort you do. So thank you - again - for covering the practical side of truck camping full-time so well.

Another thing I've learned, good spotters are critical, but 1 spotter and only 1 spotter. When multiple people are yelling at the driver (spotting), they don't know who to listen to. That causes confusion when nerves are already frayed.

Oh when I saw Moab I was going to watch for sure just in case but in the opening when you run forward carrying that r*f** I was Soo hoping you'd been at right place at right time and nailed Brian Laundry then snapped a great shot of a bad ass owl before getting back in your truck and finishing killer drive. Some women like romance novels, I like to think about scenarios like that. Call me crazy. Love ya! Be safe and keep these coming please! I don't get out much nor. Far right now so I m ever so grateful. Im 60 so there's still so many things that I haven't done, you help me a lot by letting me virtual. Virtual's a lot better than it used to be. Drones, bad ass cameras, so many people doing different things in different be manners and it looks like I'm right there, sometimes be feels a bit like it too. If it weren't for your videos, I would never have even thought of that as something one might try to drive up. A beautiful backdrop for photography, climb it on foot if you are like Mike, a windbreak in a storm, maybe even take off point in wind glider, but me, I wouldn't have had the imagination to think I'm gonna drive up that even if it costs me tens of thousands of dollars, an arm, or worse because when I get it right it'll be awesome as walking on the moon. That was a figure of speech by the way lmao that moon, that's a whole other story. 🌛

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Ford pros taking the Broncos and Bronco Sports out on hells revenge. At the off-road event by Ford I attended I was scared 💩 doing trails and terrain that experienced off-roaders like yourself would see as routine. I have such respect for the knowledge that a good spotter and driver that knows what they are doing and when to know its not a good idea to proceed. I think I’ll stick to simple trails, sand and snow. Thanks for the great video I love learning about all of this stuff.

Great video. Bad spotters are a real problem now; especially with the recent influx of people getting into off-roading. People just assume they know how to get up an obstacle and in reality they do not. Some will walk in front of you and basically try to force you to follow their instructions. There really should be some sort of rules regarding who is allowed to spot for someone on these popular trails. Good intentions and an ignorant attitude to not make up for a person's injury or loss-of-life. I wish people would understand spotting is not just for fun. It's a very important job and you need to know what you are doing or else bad things can happen.

My son managed Hell's Gate in a $500 '89 Geo Tracker with no lockers, no lift and no spotter. He had two off camber areas that made his heart race, but forced his way up.
It's not always the price of the rig, wheelbase length or not, power, torque, etc. But the experience of the driver and his knowledge of his vehicle. I've done most of my offloading alone and have to get out and study, debate which line then decide. That said I would not attempt Hell's Gate with the best spotter in Moab because I 've walked it several times and it is steep and cambered all in one.

Great information!!! More people need to know their vehicle and their capabilities as drivers. People also need to check the expertise of those they are relying on. Thanks Richie!!

I wonder if insurance companies cover damage like this. Hard to understand why anyone would risk a very expensive vehicle when they don't know what they're doing. Great footage.
