insurance companies will refuse to cash out, meaning that middle class and poor people will have to move to other parts of the state. Meanwhile, millionaires and billionaires will buy up all the destroyed property, demolish it, and replace it with expensive fancy resorts, mansions, etc. that only wealthy people can afford to go to. In reading some of the comments below, I feel compelled to say, I may not agree with the politics that Asheville has pursued over the past few years but during this time that does not factor in to me helping at all. This is an event that should not have politics entered into it. During these events we are not Republican or Democrat, we are people helping people. And Yes NC maybe getting attention but the devastation does extend to SC and TN as well as other states along Helene's path. Disasters like these have always been something that unified us in the past, let's try to at least hold on to that American characteristic.

If you're in NC and want to help faster, since donating money to our government is probably the least efficient way, find an Operation Airdrop location to donate goods. There are a lot of sites setup for drop off's. Those goods are being trucked to a staging area in Hickory where private helicopter pilots are flying those goods in to the effected areas. This is immediate relief without letting our government "take a piece of the donation pie". Which I hate to say, but you know it's true. If you have cases of water, MRE's, canned and non-perishable goods PLEASE drop them off at a donation location. Everything helps. We the people have the biggest impact on our neighbors to the west.

Until we take a serious approach to global warming, this is what our future will look like. One disaster after another, each time getting more intense. We can rebuild at massive cost to individuals and insurance rates increasing or worse yet, insurance companies diclining to insure certain states. We can sit on our hands and hope this type weather devastation will not come our way. But it will affect us ALL if we continue to ignore global warming. I choose to address global warming but this is going to take every single person to get on borad. This is science happening in real time. Absolutely ridiculous. Global "warming" is a lie. It is criminally bad, bribed and manipulated science perpetrated for power and profit, not environmental conservation. What little data is used is based on a microscopic fraction of the earth's temperature and carbon data, and even then, they have ignored and dropped opposing data and extremes to create the perception of a 150-year 1 degree rise. In truth, nothing has changed the last 150 years. CO2 doesn't control the climate or green house effect - water does. It only comprises a tiny fraction of the atmosphere - around 200x less than water vapor. The earth has been MUCH hotter, and MUCH colder many times in its history. Our very short time on earth isn't even a sampling of natural climate changes. We simply exist during a mild period. The earth is 4.3 billion years old, but their data is based on just 150 years of weather records - not even a relevant sample size (divide 150 by 4,300,000,000 and you will understand just how little data is used to create this myth). This is nothing compared to the last 400,000 years of 18-25 degree mean temp changes on Earth, because of solar cycles. It is nothing compared to 4 million years ago, when Colorado was a tropical rainforest. If humanity survives another 10,000 - 50,000 years, it will not likely survive the coming ice age that is completely controlled by natural solar cycles. It is the height of human arrogance to think we control a whole planet with weather, climate, and survivability completely dictated by the Sun. However, if we keep pushing "green" policies that are truly unsustainable depletion of our resources (cobalt, lithium, etc) and the toxic waste of billions of batteries and electric generation systems (windmills, etc), humanity *will* face a devastated environment, and likely, self-extinction. Far too much to list here, but you've been fed a massive, very dangerous, and potentially deadly lie.

Many devastated areas in the steep mountains of western & north western NC are at an elevation of 3000' to 6000', and the cooler mountain air couldn't hold the moisture. There were landslides up top and massive flooding in the hollows and valleys. The storm didn't slow down; it dumped everything in the southern Appalachians in 24 hours. The Appalachian people in rural areas are from hearty stock, but how do you prepare for 30 or 40 inches of rain? Climate Change is here and has been for decades.
