      @@slipzZzH No I think she and her husband (along with many others in that area) are just completely devastated, emotionally, mentally, and physically. This is NOT about anyone there in that area previously having felt "privileged". I'm surprised you don't seem to have more compassion for people who have lost everything except (luckily) their pets and their lives. Criticizing people who have lost everything and who are emotionally devastated is not a good way for a person to be acting. (At least that's the way you've come across in the comments sadly, but maybe without you realizing it, that critical behavior of yours towards people who have already been beaten up emotionally over their losses only makes YOU look really bad to most others).

When the Indians inhabited that area in the 1100's it was WARMER . If bad weather bugs you rally against High Frequency Audio Auroral Research Project type installations used for weather wars ! It would be better if they indicated, a “customer” (for electricity) means a residence, business, etc., so each “customer” for residences means a family/household-likely more than 1 human being. That said, the power companies doesn’t know how many people are receiving electricity at each residence; so 100,000 “customers” could mean 100,000 to 500,000 people impacted.

    IMPORTANT ... If you plan to rebuild you must start to pull out all wet sheetrock and any insulation that is wet or got wet... Tear it out immediately. Start the drying the airing keep the windows doors all open... open all closet doors attic doors basement doors air air air.. you can start spraying hydrogen peroxide on all surfaces... right away.... bleach is okay but peroxide is better... look up proper mixture amounts... it is paramount you get those areas sprayed down right away.... the water and all it touched is ow contaminated.. I have lived through 17 floods I know how to rebuild how to clean up how to save lots of time money and property,., I can't be there to help everyone so please share this... I am seriously trying to help the best I can... Cut out all wet lumber not the studs not support beams you can use a skill saw to cur the lower portion of the walls out.. Pull out the wet insulation right away use gloves and mask... be careful do not delay hours can make all the difference in the world if you save it or it starts to mold mildew rot..

    Upstate SC here, don't think most people realize how bad this storm was. It did so much damagenin SC alone. That couple in interview are in Boiling Springs, Spartanburg County. I'm about 20 minutes from there, and let me tell you, we got HAMMERED around here. Worst part of storm came right through this part of state.
    Hopefully that couple is in someplace with power, because almost all the upstate went dark. Cell service has been bad, if you can get service. Even if you have service, it's almost impossible to use browser or anything to look up info. We were lucky that most of the damage in the upstate was from fallen trees, but even where that couple is now, it got real bad.
    NC needs serious help now. We here in SC are recovering, and small businesses are cooking up their food and just giving it all away to feed people without power. NC needs as much attention as we can give them. The devastation in western NC is total. I can't believe many places I've been to up there are completely destroyed. I'm worried that the number of missing persons will go up as we start getting more info. It's been very hard to get any news out of these areas due to no cell service.

      But the 20 inches of rain was forecasted for days before hit. I just don’t fully understand how people didn’t know. But then again, if they just don’t follow things like that then the local government should have warned everyone. The information/forecast was well known days before.

    • @louderthanwordsInclusivity
      @louderthanwordsInclusivity 2 місяці тому +4

      @@LifebyLisa4444I can actually show you what was forcasted, as me and my grandma were sharing it back and forth before hand. Idc WHAT they are claiming, the forecast was 2-4 inches of rain and up to 40 mph winds. Then right at Thursday night and Friday morning, they began raising it AS IT WAS ALREADY FLOODING.
      Also, we DO get hurricanes, nearly every single year, they are just tropical storms by then. And they absolutely never do this, not ever, this is the only time this has happened even close to this in over 200 years, and the first time it's happened LIKE this this bad ever.
      I watch the weather literally daily, even multiple times daily, for my area, for the counties my family is in, it's a thing we do. We absolutely did not have a warning, and I have screen shots of our weather from those days from where I sent it back and forth to prove it

    • @louderthanwordsInclusivity
      @louderthanwordsInclusivity 2 місяці тому +4

      Actually we DO get the tropical storms from hurricanes all the time. It's like an expected thing
      The difference is that they absolutely have never done this. Not ever.
      A lot of people seem to have the idea that this is just par for the course of a hurricane and no one had ever experienced one and therefore didn't know how to prepare-but the reality is much worse
      We get tropical storms from the hurricanes regularly, and they always result in just a rough storm, like the ones that wake you up from loud thunder at night, blow around some trash cans, some rain, and they pass
      So everyone, meteorologists included, expected what has happened every other time when a hurricane turns to a tropical storm and travels inland.
      But no one expected this. Even meteorologists were in the streets shocked. They didn't warn for evacuation until the flooding was already happening.
      And for the record, "flash flood warnings" also have never meant anything here. They typically mean either nothing happens, or maybe water will pool up to below your ankles in some areas, or river levels rise, but never enough to make anyone have to fear for their safety, or property.
      It's not that NC didn't know what to do in a tropical storm, it's that they DID know what to do in a tropical storm, and this one was just different

If building in a valley, build on stilts or homes that can rise with the water. Don't get rid of land lines for phones. Have 'several' small multipurpose community resource centers that can be used for disasters such as this (with supplies) and pads on top for helicopters. Most importantly, don't build big, meaning, it's a blessing those rains came down on dirt, trees, natural areas so "nature" can soak it up. Yes, because everyone had missing persons, communications were down. There is a list, but they cannot do welfare checks on tens of thousands while there are still actively families and children in dire situations needing to have their lives saved immediately.

      Your state government is to blame for this devastation.

      @@Danks-vz5xz the state government had nothing to do with it. This was unprecedented, even meteorologists were shocked
      So many who don't know ANYTHING about the situation have opinions

    Being cut off from electricity and water for 5 days from a flood was bad enough. Red cross landed helicopters in the nearby soccer field and were able to bring us food and water in dry ice coolers. Our house was an island, basement flooded a few feet, 1 bridge washed out but for the most part we just had a big mess to clean up. A few people lost their house because it flooded past the 2nd or 3rd story roof so by comparison we felt lucky. Almost 15 years later and the town is finally somewhat back to normal but everyone still remembers and talks about those days. I can't imagine when the infostructure is just... gone. Even for us it felt like we were on our own to fend for ourselves and we really struggled even with the help of good neighbors. If this stuff is going to be happening more and more frequently we really need to figure out better ways to get people out, especially before everything hits. The issue is that once people realize they do need to evacuate it's usually far too late and the easiest or typical routes of travel are already unpassable. The moment we had to take backroads and barely made it home from the school, we should of packed our bags then and there and left for higher ground. We waited and then it was too late and the next thing we know the fire dept is using resources to come get us because what we thought was a few inches of water in our driveway was actually several feet deep of water that had washed out the driveway and adjacent sidewalk and was moving so quickly it was moving ENTIRE trees that had fallen including one that got slammed through one side of a church down the road and right out the other side. Wild stuff I don't wish anyone to experience in their lifetime.

      Dementia Joe assures Americans that Hurricane Helene will be used as an excuse to raise taxes, then blame Trump and half of the USA.
      At the start of his remarks, Biden assured that he and his team were "in constant contact with governors, mayors and local leaders" regarding Hurricane Helene. Where are the cameras?
