One of the first videos to be on the ground the moment water receded in Biltmore Village in Asheville, NC on the afternoon of 9-29-24. Devastation to many buildings along the river. Parts of buildings became river debris following historic rain from Hurricane Helene and the preceding rainfall. #nc #asheville #ncwx #helene

So many places I have shopped, eaten in, and driven by hundreds of times. This is all shocking. My parents are nearby and stuck in their neighborhood because of washed out roads. Thankfully they got cell service back Saturday night, but who knows when there will be power--let alone the ability to drive out of their area.... 😢 I'm just glad they are safe and their house is standing, because so many aren't.....

My hometown 40 miles NE of Chattanooga got less than 3" of rain and just 10-40 mile per hour wind as the Storm passed. I was shocked with the devastation just 40 miles away in every direction except South. Shocked but fortunate.

A lot of supplies are going to be need over the next couple of months to a year. This Longshoreman's strike is about to happen on Oct 1, it's going to affect over 36 ports from the upper east coast down to the Gulf of Mexico, and much needed supplies are going to be sitting offshore with no one to unload them. I hear the Biden administration says they are not going to interfere with the strike, but what is the mood now with so many supplies going to be needed for humanitarian aid, that even the government will need? Will the union put off the strike for a later date? Will Biden intervene?

Helene hit like an atom bomb
Consuming the helpless in its path.
The waters of the deep surged forth
    Flooding everything with their wrath.
The storms of life come to everyone
There are none who are immune.
Some approach in our later years
    While others come too soon.
    Conviction is our emotional union
As we weather the storms of Earth.
Thank God for His amazing grace
Which helps us reveal our worth.

When it's time to say goodbye

With time and patience they dry.

They were outside the ability to cover. Makes a great story though. Also, most of this will most likely not be covered as all of it is in a flood zone flood insurance doesn't cover structure only contents and property only covers wind damage and vandalism.

I'd seen videos from that air and, unlike a tornado where everything is flattened, it look horrible but not apocalyptic. These buildings are standing but they are all totally destroyed.....it's freaking unreal. This will take an army to put back together - and it will take awhile, too....a long while.

There's so much water and debris damage to those structures that they're not even salvageable. A complete write-off. I saw a pile of debris in the background there piled up against a metal tower, must have been 20ft high.
Hope nobody was waiting for parcels from that Fedex building!
    Crazy.

Wow… I remember standing on that overpass behind Moe’s when it flooded in 2004. It’s hard to believe that the water was 6 feet higher the other day… raising all the building elevations a few feet didn’t matter apparently.

I followed that previous storm from the Gulf of Mexico up to Asheville thinking I was retreating to the mountains. We lost a pond dam in South Georgia and then I lost electricity and had to boil water at my house… Biltmore Village looks way worse in this video from what I remember. The water must have nearly reached the first floor ceilings.

You will not want to fix any of those places. Water gets into all spaces, crevices, everywhere. Mold begins to form causing sinus, lung, and other issues for folks. All of this needs taken down and disposed of in the dump. Please wear masks to keep the mold spores and other hazards from entering your systems.

I'm in Michigan and after Katrina, we got some strong winds coming up from the south. Our dog had his nose in the air; I swear he was smelling the death and destruction. Our cat went crazy and clawed my arm. At the hospital, the nurses were saying that they kept getting really weird animal attack cases. Our fur babies knew.
